no hard reset button?? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was hitting back to exit the browser and now I'm frozen. The power button won't work, nothing works. There ishmm a small hole near the headphone jack but I believe that is the internal Mic. Is there an option for hard reset? I'm afraid my screen won't work if I leave it on with no screen hibernate until the battery dies. Any suggestions? It's been this way for almost an hour now. Running real hot. No bueno.

Hold down power for ten seconds to hard reset it. It will reboot.
Hold down power and volume up until it turns off and you see the Samsung logo and it will boot to recovery. Don't let off until you see the logo or it won't go into recovery.
This works on my Samsung Infuse also. Might work on all Samsung devices for all I know. Great if you get boot loops or hanging during boot.

Thanks. It worked.

Hard reboot

Okay so your supposed to be able to hold the power button for 10 to 15 seconds for the phone to do a hard reboot but it doesn't work.
On my nexus 7 and kindle fire I can just hold the power button for 10 to 15 seconds if the device locks up or freezes on me and it will do a hard reboot but on the SGS3 it doesn't reboot, I held the power button in for over a minute and nothing happened, sometimes my phone locks up or freezes on me and its a pain to have to pull the battery out in order to reboot as I have a cover on my phone.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a combination of buttons I am supposed to push for it to work? Any help will be much appreciated.

Hmmm, I am able to use this regularly when my phone has problems. Had an SOD on CM10, and also a lockup in TWRP and was able to reset the device with the power button. Sorry I cant offer anything other than saying that you dont appear to be doing anything wrong.
Holding the power button doesn't force a reboot for me or my dad either. I didn't see anything in the manual about forcing a reboot either. AFAIK pulling the battery is the only thing that works.
I got the infamous black screen the other day and had no clue what was going on. I'd never gotten it before on any of my Android devices so I was freaked out. I thought I may have killed something. I tried the power button / volume rocker to no avail. Pulling the battery was the only thing that worked.
Thank you Samsung for giving us a removable battery.
My wife has the GS3 too and I have tried holding the power button for 10 to 15 seconds and nothing happens. Weird that some phones it will reboot and others don't while holding the power button.

Power button works for me and I've done it, let me see, 10+ times. It doesn't work right away sometimes, but a few iterations of holding down power for 15 seconds, release for 1-2 seconds, holding it down again, and so on works every time for me.
I haven't taken the back off my phone yet. Well once, to see how to do it, but I didn't need to so I promise the power button works.
EDIT: As luck would have it, I had to do a hard reset on my phone shortly after writing this and I actually hold volume down and power (no volume up or home button) and I cycle through holding it down for 10 seconds, letting go, holding it down, etc. I don't know if it's just my phone, but it vibrates after a couple iterations and I know it's good to go. I always keep my phone on vibrate though so I don't know if that will apply to you.
On the topic of needing to hard reset our phones, am I the only one who's phone deals out about once a day? As in locks up and flickers like it's having a stroke...just curious

[Q] Phone won't boot into recovery or otherwise

Hi there,
Sorry but I think I finally found the right forum for this and I wanted to take one more stab before kissing this phone goodbye.
I have a Rogers Galaxy SGH-i727R. About three weeks ago, the phone started re-starting on it's own. I though maybe it was a sticky power key and had that replaced. The problem persisted. I then noticed that it was primarily upon receiving text messages that the phone would reboot. So it seemed it was a software issue. I am running the stable build of CM9.
Yesterday the phone rebooted and never got off the angry alien screen. I pulled the battery, charged it etc and still could not get it to fully boot up. I left it for over an hour. I finally decided to call it quits and re-flash the phone. Problem is, it will not boot into recovery at all. When I hold down Vol + - and Power, it jsut goes into a loop of vibrating every three seconds until I let go and then it tries a normal boot again. Once, I briefly got a screen saying I was trying to install custom software and to press volume up to do so, but before I could hit volume up, the phone cycled off.
I should also mention that the four buttons on the bottom of the screen do not work. I accidentally sliced the wires on the side of the phone when opening it up. I use a software button saver widget to access their functions. I wonder if that issue is related....
Thanks for any advice. I would like to get into recovery so I can load a new ROM or a stock ROM.
If you haven't ventured there yet in this forum I'd recommend Vincom's roundup on just about everything http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652398. I don't know if it will help much in your situation but it's worth a look. Also, you may want to research usb jigs, not sure if they will work with our devices though ... research is the key word.

All I can tell you is that your problem sounds exactly like a stuck power button. I know you replaced it but all the symptoms you point out suggest stuck power button. Maybe try cleaning it again?

But if it were a stuck power button it would not stay on the loading screen indefinitely, no? If I hold down the power button while booting, it will turn the phone off.
Hold vol +- and pwr until it vibrates let go of pwr continue to hold vol +-. You were letting go of all of them at once going by your described method.

[Q] Maybe bricked? Idk? Help please

Hey everyone
Verizon SGS3
Earlier today, phone shut off randomly during use.
Phone won't power on without a battery pull.
Trying to boot normally: can see "samsung" for a split second, phone shuts off.
Trying to boot to recovery: get to screen where in the top left corner it says "recovery booting...", lasts for a split second, shuts off
Trying to boot so I can use ODIN: before I can even hit volume up to go into download mode, powers down
I was hoping I'd be able to get into recovery and then just do a factory reset, but I'm not given enough time before it powers down.
Is there any way for me to factory reset from pc?
Would this even work?
Any help is appreciated

You aren't bricked, it sounds like either a battery issue or a power button issue. Does it turn on completely when it's plugged in?

It does not turn on completely at all and hasn't for several hours now. The best I can do it get it to begin powering up, into the different modes, and then i get a black dead screen. Even if i try to power back up right after getting the black dead screen, nothing happens at all. I need to do a battery pull to attempt again.
Up until this day I've never had any battery or power button issues

I think it's your power button, if it were hard bricked it wouldn't show anything. Those symptoms sound like the power button is stuck in the on position when you're powering it up.
If you're under warranty send it into Samsung and they'll troubleshoot it.

Do you know if Samsung is going to give me a hard time because it's rooted?
Verizon will for sure. Why dont u find another s3 battery and check it first. If battery is bad it will not turn on regaurdless of whether its plugged in or not. Power goes through the battery.

Yes do that first, Verizon will care of you're rooted, but Samsung won't.

[Q] Won't turn on, stuck in bootloop?

I have a black 16GB (stock, unrooted), received last Friday. A couple of hours ago it shut down on me while still having ~60% charge. Now when I power on, the Google logo with the black background comes on before shutting down. When I have it plugged in, same Google logo comes up and then keeps restarting to that same point.
I've tried getting into the recovery menu with Power + Vol down, but as soon as I get in, the phone reboots on me. Any ideas...?
When you get to recovery, press and hold power then immediately press volume up. The menu should come up and wipe data.

Sounds like it could be a stuck power button.
Thanks for the suggestions guys, I think it is/was a stuck power button. Couldn't manage to get it to do a wipe, but shook the phone a bit and spammed the power button (methodical, I know) and it seems to be working alright for now.
Spamming the power button is the way I'd do it. lol If it keeps happening though you might have to take it apart and clean it. Here's the ifixit teardown but I hope it doesn't come to that.

VZW Galaxy S6 won't turn on

Got a perculiar problem with the S6. The screen suddenly went black with just the blue LED blinking in the upper left hand corner of the sreen. I am assuming the phone went off completely as I cannot access it via the PC also. I have tried all possible button combinations for reset but no luck so far.
Anyone else experience this? Did you find a fix?
Sent from my SM-G920V using XDA Free mobile app
Well the phone is not off if the blue led light is blinking, I've never had it happen to me where the phone didn't come back though. I was using an app one day (YouTube I think) and the app crashed and bugged the phone out to where the screen went black but the led was blinking. I left the phone alone after several attempts of hitting home and power to get the screen to come back on and finally I think I plugged it into the charger and it kind of just fixed it self and has not happened again. This is the scary parts of not having a removable battery.

I've got the 128GB and yes I have experienced this as well, twice! I hold down both volume buttons the home button and the power button at the same time, this will put you in maintenance mode. It'll take a couple of seconds holding those buttons but just keep them pressed. Be careful because when it does come on it comes on fast and factory reset is the second selection in that mode. The first time I did it I wiped my phone, the second time it happened I lifted my fingers fast enough not to make a selection. Give that a try and see what happens.

Sounds like you have the same problem as stated in OP. You could try doing what was recommended earlier in the thread. By the way, this is an inappropriate location to put your problem. Read the forum rules
Never rooted.
I am having the same issue. I have tried everything. Factory reset. Reboot/wiped cache and even trying to install verizon's Fireware again as it come only up to the Samsung S6 logo then goes blank. This is now my 4th replacement with Verizon and getting sick of it. How do I fix this? Odin stops at Get Pit mapping then when I do that says it can not install NAND. Using Odin 3.10.6 and 3.10.7. Tried mutli cables and restarted computer as well. This is driving me insane these phones keep doing this.
same problem except nothing comes on. no led, no reset, no computer recognition...
Same issue. Boots into and displays recovery fine and download mode. I can also bring up the safe mode menu ... just can't boot into the OS. Blue light on. I get a response in ADB when powered on, just can't enter any commands due to not being able to authorize access via phone screen.
Update:
Well as strange as it sounds, as soon as I plopped it down on the wireless charger for my S7 the screen came to life. It was at 95% battery prior to. Whatever gremlins got into the gizmos within the wireless charging apparatus seems to have caused this strange occurrence.
