hey every one.... im going on holiday soon and sadly theres a stay of 6 hours half way through hahaha making the whole trip of about 16 hours!!!!!! :crying: going to china for a business trip.
anyways the phone isnt rooted... its completely stock. Any tips on how to save battery??? i will be listening to songs and probably watch a movie or two...
any tips on how i can make the phone last 16 hours?
does juice defender or softwares like that really work to save battery? It sounds like they will drain the battery by running in background...
oh btw i use poweramp for music..
is it not possible to turn the cpu frequency down with out s-off? or turn like one of the cores of to save battery?
thanksssss
Forget it.
To do that you should have 2-3 spare, charged batteries.
Mike
I just bring two extra fully charged batteries with me on trips and my wall battery charger from anker. I can charge my current battery and the extra at the same time. This is what I
Do now because I've been on trips and have flat ran out of battery! I hate that so now I always bring my extra anker and my old stock as backup batteries . This gives me three total. Honestly this is the best way to go in my opnion. Let's face it, battery life no matter how much we tweak it still isn't that great on smart phones. So I just bring extras and I'm set! Hope this helps out.

Also there is a battery tweak you can flash in android development. Take a look you will find it. You can under volt and this will help out a lot.

thanks for your replies.... Gonna have to go out tomorrow to buy a battery then haha... dont have any spare ones :/
i cant flash the battery tweak because my phone isnt rooted... its still S-on
S-OFF.
But seriously. You'd be lucky to make it through a single movie. Airplane mode since you'll be on an airplane (ha ha ha)
You should be fine listening to music. Keep the damn screen off. Bring a car battery with you and hook it up. Convince everyone you're not a terrorist.
Bring some ether and pass yourself out for 16 hours. Again, convince everyone you're not a terrorist.
I streamed the game the other night. Took just about two batteries to make it through the entire game.
Really having the spare battery is a nice convenience! If you can seriously dude buy an extra! It will help out a lot! Nothing I hate more than being stranded on a trip without battery! I've had it happen, couldn't even call my family! It sucked. So now I'm always leaving with a fully charged spare!
Sent from my Sensation 4G using xda premium
You could buy an external battery; this one has way more power: 11000mAh, which is 7,3 times the amount of the stock battery. Since you'll be in a plane, you could keep it in your cabin baggage.
And to lower the CPU's voltage, you'll need root permissions.

thanks for the reply every one
Using airplane mode is the best thing you can do. The radio is tge 2nd biggest battery drain so shutting it off will help alot.
Keep the screen brightness low.
Movies will still drain it hard. But music with tge screen off should drain too hard.
Dont forget to have a power oitlet adapter for when you get there

Wanting to purchase all of the above. any combos that will all fit together? Also considering zagg sparq instead or both. My battery is going dead halfway through the day. Ok have you deleted battery stats. There is no reason for a battery die halfway through day. Mine last over 48 hours on a single charge. I had the extended batery and its litteraly more then double the physical size and not even close to twice the capacity. It will not work with any cases and doesn't work with the dicks........ when I got my regular batery I couldn't even tell I lost battery capacity. Just be sure there aren't any apps in the background killing it also. Plus I heard GPS is a killer if you leave it on. Haven't tested this.
Usually running pandora all day while I am working, figures I could use the sparq in one rear pocket with a usb going across to charge all day long. I am standing all day.
Extended battery is out of the picture. Any cases that fit the car DOCK?
Just drained until phone shut off and fully charged while phone was off twice, then booted to cwm and deleted battery. Hopefully will increase life.

Drained until phone shut off and charged until 100% twice while it was all off, booted cwm and deleted battery stats. Left pandora on overnight in hopes to find a dead battery do I could repeat one last time. Phone was at after 8 hours of pandora.seems that method fixed my issues.

There's a little blue cable that can fix that issue...
I have a question regarding switching between my original battery and a spare battery. Since the phone calibrates with the battery stats how does then switching to a spare battery and charging and using that battery for a while work? How does the phone handle having 2 different batteries switched and knowing what the proper capacity is for each battery. When I first charge the new spare battery I'm concerned that the phone will think it has the original battery that is properly calibrated and will not charge the new spare battery properly and to it's full capacity for some reason. I'm not sure if I'm just over thinking this ( I have a tendency to do that ) or if this is a real concern.
As far as storing the battery that's not in use, I've read Li-ion batteries store best when at 20% charge. How are most users handling the storing of the battery that's not in use?
Anyone?? Surely there are users here who switch between 2 batteries.
Bump....Still waiting for an answer and or advice.
I don't know about anyone else, but here's my experience.
I bought two aftermarket 1500mah batteries and external wall chargers from dealextreme.com. So I have three batteries total and I can be charging all three simultaneously if the phone is used as the third charger.
I normally have one battery in one charger at home and a second battery in the other charger at my office while I'm using the third battery. I can easily make it through a busy day at work on one battery and I'll swap before I leave for home. Depending on how heavily I use my phone at home, I'll swap batteries again before bed or before I leave for work the next morning. On weekends or when I know I'll be away from chargers for most of a day, I'll bring one charged battery in my pocket and swap if needed. I've never needed a second spare.
So I regularly carry fully charged batteries in pockets at body temperature and I don't take special precautions when charging or using batteries. I don't recalibrate the battery stats in my G2 either. I should note that I don't overclock the CPU. I usually turn GPS off if I am not using it but I often leave wifi and BT on. If I'm using google navigation, I try to have the phone plugged into a car charger because the GPS and the screen on constantly _will_ drain a battery in a couple of hours.

Free=good. But note that shipping takes about a month to the east coast.
I'm considering getting Evo Shift 1800mah batteries from there since they are 5-6 bucks each with free shipping. Even if they are crap, it's cheap to try them out.
I had a total of 4 batteries swapping them out all the time. The only downfall I saw to doing this was my alarms getting out of wack sometimes, alarms that I had going on every day like for a break at work, clocking in, lunch etc... and also I had to setup my clock everytime I popped a new battery in.
U want to know what's better then doing this? 3600mah mugen by far. I get 2-3.5 days out of it. Cheap 1500mah batteries I swapped once every 18 hours or so.

interesting enough that you guys have have problem with clock. I have Yaobao 1500mah battery which was built for HTC mozart but fit just fine in Z, I did not have such problem but the price a bit expensive than other OEM, around $20 if converted to USD from Indonesian Rupiah.
Swapping is easy, while if I'm using the Yaobao battery the battery door might have a bit of gap prior to closure

Perhaps I don't understand the use case for your alarms. I put events in google calendar with reminders. Those sync automatically with my phone and the internal clock in my phone is set from Tmo's network. I personally hate the alarm clock app.

I said alarms, I meant google calender. The reminders would go off all the time. 30 minutes late, 2 hours late, 63.5 minutes late... it was freaking weird.
Also alarms... while switching batteries my alarm didn't go off in the morning for work 3 times in a two month or so period.
And about the time, I also had it auto sync'd but a lot of the time it would take a long time to finally sync... once i popped a battery in at night and even by the next morning the time still hadn't sync'd.
Good luck, but I would never go back to switching batteries..

Wow Mog. I've never experianced thoes problems, with clock sync, before. I don't have too many reminders set. Mostly birthdays and special events. I do have one that's set to go off once a day, M-F, and its always went off at the scheduled time.
That us weird. I've been switching batteries almost since the phone came out. Started with 2 chichi + stock, for about 2 months, but didn't like the fit of them. Since than, I've been using 2 stock batteries, with one sitting in my pocket.
Actually switched batteries about 5 hrs ago, before I went to sleep, and at 5:30am on the dot, my alarm went off...than shortly after that, at 6:15am, my backup alarm went off.
That must suck.

If you turn off the phone completely when not in use, you'll get all kinds of battery life, but, again, not a smart phone at that point. Basically a chuck of plastic with great battery life.
The point is to have notifications of all kinds at your finger tips. If you want email when you turn it on, that's called a computer.

Went to amazon.com and found a 3850mAh Extended Battery for Skyrocket made by QCell. It have the highest mAh rating among all other manufacturers.
Product arrive 1 day from purchase. The seller seems to ship out pretty quick. I charge the battery for 8 hours prior to use and now with this battery, I can last full day without charge.
The cover that comes with the battery is in reflective black. Matches quite nicely to the phone.

I got those and they worked ok. Don't last as long as the OEM but you have an option of switching the batteries when waiting for the other to charge. They take a long time to charge from 0 to 100%. Still a better alternative than getting stuck with 1 battery. For me they last about 4 hours with listening to the radio on LTE and with everything else running in the background. This phone does suck a lot of juice.

Finally had a chance to run this battery through its passes the last few days.
Let me describe my day.
I run an IT shop so I get lots of status, info, newsletter etc emails throughout the day. In addition I get text messages regularly, email on my gmail account, facebook updates and hourly twitter updates via plume.
So my phone comes off the charger around 7am(on home wifi), I start dealing with work emails at that time.
I do a commute of about 40-45 min where I'll listen to music that is stored on my phone pipe through my cars audio system in the morning. Get to work(go back to wwifi), then the phone will be on on sound notification for text and work email throughout the daily. I also run NoLED for notification.
Lunch time I'll come off wifi as I head out but I'll the phone will see increase usage as I'll browse various apps, play a few games, etc.
Back to just status notifications for the rest of the work day(back on wifi), then an evening commute home listening to music again, and back on wifi at home.
With that in my the stock battery will start at 100% and by the end of the day as I get in my car to head home be at about 15%-17%.
Yesterday the extended battery was at 45% when I got in the car, and by about 10:30pm was still at about 15%.
Today I didn't use my phone as much today (limiting it to mostly status updates which still come regularly) and my phone right now is at 65%.
This will work for me. I really only have an extended battery for periods where I'm not going to be near a charger... basically a day when I know I'm going to be out and about, as oppose to at work or in my car.
So with that being said I'm happy with the purchase.
edit: I also own an Energizer XP18000 which I can use to charge my phone and my Xoom 4G tablet that will come in to play when I head out on business trips for IT conferences.
So, you're gettng a 30% increase from a supposed 1950mah increase in battery capacity over the 1850 mah stock. That sounds like a 2400mah battery rather than a 3800mah battery.

If you are in bad cell coverage (which eats more juice) or are a heavy user, pray god invest a few bucks into a Gumpack external battery. That thing is half the size if a pack of cigs and stores enough juice for 2-3 full recharges on the go. Its one little more gadget to toss into your daypack and remember to keep charged but its well worth the bother. Certainly easier than speculating about a bigger battery while batt life is fine for most users.
And I am not bashing, if you have a 1.5h commute to work and spend it playing GTA3 i can see where the juice goes. So a gumpack battery would be your best approach, with the current 28nm Krait architecture there is not a lot to gain batterywise really. Plus, the AMOLED sucks less juice on dark images, something to keep in mind when picking a background image I think.
