[Q] I727 Rooted Apps Stopping - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hi all,
I have a Skyrocket which I rooted, unlocked, loaded NexusMod ICS 2 Zero and Blaze 4G radio. It's been a rocky road, but at least the phone is working -- sort of. WiFi does not work and rooted apps stop. I've wiped both caches and re-installed the ROM and SuperUser and still no joy. Baseband version also says "Unknown".
I'm stuck. Any thoughts or suggestions?
TIA,
Bob

That's because you have a TMobile radio on a skyrocket with the ril in the radio

Well, yup, T-Mobile is my new carrier and voice and data work fine. It's just the rooted apps like Titanium Backup and Root Explorer that don't work. Sorry, I've seen the term "ril", but I don't know what it means.
So, what radio would you suggest I use that will be optimal for T-Mobile and NexusMod ICS?
Thanks,
Bob

cannot get 4g at all

I'm running the latest Cyanogen and cannot get 4g to save my life. I tried the *#*#info#*#* settings but nothing. I don't have the cdma+lte option like she does tho. I changed my ROM and wiped but nothing. My wifes stock TV gets 4g fine but i'm stuck in 3g
Any help?
sometimes on cm and aosp roms, instead of lte, it would be listed as other. usually a soft reset would get 4g back though. Might want to try the stock rom, rooted and see if you are still having troubles. Your sim might be on the fritz.

Thanks guys. I'm downloading a stock ROM now, but how do I tell the radio? I believe its MR 2.5 but I forget. 4g worked before, but doesn't now. Not sure what I did. Under info I don't have other, but I've unknown. Still doesn't work with that.
Eh, bad stock ROM I came across, but I installed liquid now I've 4g. So could it be just a cm problem?
Double post.

[Q] Radio problems... HELPPPPP

hi guys! i need your help. i upgraded today to SKY ICS 4.2F - 1.5, ICS RUXLF3 RADIO and my data network it's not working. two days ago i flashed SKY ICS 4.2E R5GOO with 17-ish, ICS UCLE2 RADIO. i have a sgh-i727r "rogers" phone but im with fido. yesterday i upgraded to rogers ics 4.0.4 through kies and the data network was working perfect, today i flashed SKY ICS 4.2F - 1.5, ICS RUXLF3 RADIO and my data it's not working. i tried everything that i could find on xda and internet. flashed radio 3x, wiped data, cache, *#2263#, i even called fido and got the apn info. i still have no data network but everything else works fine.
PLEASE HELP. THANK YOU
Did you check the apn settings
Never mind just noticed that you tried the fido apn
Sent from my SGH-I727R using XDA
is it showing a signal? if so the radio is installed fine
yes, i have phone network but no data network. am i doing something wrong? i tried all modems UCLE2, UCALC4, on these it's says that i can't use data roaming outside US even though i have roaming on my fido plan and im in canada....
be sure its checked in your mobile settings. use data roaming
it's on. i flashed the rom ics4.2f -2 + ruxlf3 radio at least 3 times. it's killing me, should i reformat the internal sdcard? and i have the correct apn settings i got them from fido and from my previous version of ics4.0.4 from rogers when it was working
Do you have the network mode set to LTE/WCDMA/GSM?
Just for ****z and giggles have you tried restoring to default apn?

redownload the radio and maybe even the rom or do a checksum on them, (bad download of radio most likely the problem, did u initially flash the radio when u did the rom)
u can flash the stock rogers ics firmware from sammobile to c if u get data, read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652398
if u do get data just follow seans op but dont flash the radio, wiping/formatting does not wipe the radio
fido has no lte, no 4g. what band where u getting when it was working
what apn is fido telling u to use
make sure fido resets ur internet, tech support does that, not customer service reps
edit: just read what u posted after, " i tried all modems UCLE2, UCALC4, on these it's says that i can't use data roaming outside US even though i have roaming on my fido plan and im in canada...."
thats ur best clue, where or how does this message pop up, r u sure u flashed rogers version and not the att version
if stock ics worked, u must of mucked something up, wrong version flashed or bad download of rom
i am also using a rogers i727r with fido and had the same problem initally.
signal showed strength but no data.
you have to setup the APN. once i had the correct fido apn, i was able to get 4G-LTE no problem.
search google for "fido android apn" ..there's an actual fido page that shows you how to setup a droid with the fido apn settings.
i can confirm UCLE2 and RUXLF3 radio's work 100%. i didn't try the others but from what i've read, they all work.

u actually got lte from fido, damn i could of stayed w/them, i really really hate rogers
did u do any speed tests to confirm, and which apn did u use
so nibnion, did any of this work for u
edit: just got a pm from nibnion saying he reslved his problem, the error was he was given wrong apn from fido, hes is now using the fido-core-appl1.apn but doesnt not get lte, gets 4g but only 2mbps
from what ive read u need a lte sim card and an lte apn to get lte, rogers is ltemobile.apn, without that ur not going to get lte, and of course b in a lte area
I think it 4G. The icon at the top of my screen says 4G and my phone was automatically setup with a Fido LTE apn. I had to manually add the regular one. Strange.
I'll do a speed test and confirm.

the reason i doubt u can get lte from fido is they dont even offer any phones that r lte, so they wouldnt even support u if u couldnt get lte

i got it guys, you have to manually set up APN, the problem is that you need to have 2 APN's. very strange, when i had the ICS 4.0.4 stock from kies a few days ago i saved the APN info and used them on SKY ICE 4,2F and it didn't work, i had to manually do different settings. you would think that they should work from 4.0.4 to 4.2F.... strange...
finally they let me post now...
vincom what's the difference between
SKY ICS 4.2F R1 (ROGERS) (STOCK EMAIL)
SKY ICS 4.2F R1 (ROGERS) (GOOGLE EMAIL)
im not aware of a stock email? am i wrong?
Stock email i beleive is more geared towards exchange and corporate mail. Google is gmail.

i9020a radio 4.1.1

So I've gotten jelly bean installed on my Nexus S, granted I do have the Sprint i9020a CDMA version, I realize no radio was included, however, I flashed the latest radio that I had and JB doesn't see it, I used the i9020a version from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784497
Is it just that there is a GSM version of the i9020a(didn't think there was) or is there something i'm missing, never had this problem before when flashing roms. Right now it says baseband "unknown". Which is telling me the ROM is only looking for a GSM radio I take it.

i9020A is gsm (the only diff with i9020T is the 850MHz for 3g). there was never an i9020a cdma version. maybe you;re confusing it with nexus S 4G (D720)?

Oh I see, well no I had read that 19020a was Sprint only, didn't know there was a GSM variant :/
So if I flash an AOSP version over this will it be ok? or should I just wipe and start fresh to be safe?
isn't the i9020a an att gsm phone? OP, remove your battery and tell us what it says on the phone itself. I'm thinking, along with others here, that you have the ns4g (d720).

Well, I did that and everything is good, however for some reason Google Play Music, refuses to see my music, and Settings refuses to see my ringtones, etc from the sdcard partition
edit:yes i did a full factory wipe when I installed as well.
I would start by looking through the thread of the rom you flashed. Sounds like you may just need to fix permissions or possibly wipe & reflash

Well this is ROM i'm using, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1763781 and so far I'm not seeing any issue with that. I've done a fix permissions thing, I'll try a reflash and see if that does the trick, not gonna get my hopes up tho...
Edit: Well I've went back to my 4.0.4 version until things get straightened out...to many bugs to work with in these JB ROMS.....

Installing CM9 on skyrocket will allow to choose 2G/3G network?

I have brought an unlocked version skyrocket from at&t. Since I stay in India, we don't have a 4G and it's shame to say not even full 3G coverage here as of yet.
My question is when I move into 3G coverage area I see 4G instead of 3G and I feel battery drains quite fast during data usage under 3G (or 4G for phone). So I heard in Roger version of skyrocket and some custom roms allow switching off 4G completely ( 4G/LTE/HSPA+). So does cyanogenmod 9 allow such feature to disable 4G connectivity which is not there on at&t rom? Anybody who has already flashed CM9 on at&t skyrocket can reply so I can root this device and go for CM9 or other stable that allows such feature.
Thanks.

Yes
Where in India..? How did u manage to get carrier signals... I struggled a lot to get the signals, I had to flash stock ics uclf6.. may b d radio in it was the thing did it...
Into the topic,.. yes u can switch 2g/3g... you don't need to root ur phone... u can flash a recovèry using Odin.. then flash the custom rom... u get root if the rom is pre rooted... if not u can flash su... I'm using sky ics now but I'm unable to switch network mode.. people say it might b radio prob..
Pls post back if u succeed with cm9..
Thank u..

Yes, CM9 allows it. I'm on TeamChopsticks' CM9 and the option to switch is available in the Wireless and Networks setting.
However, do understand that you need a RAT unlocked radio. That's actually what allows you to switch to 2G on the skyrocket -- having a RAT unlocked radio. You can find a list of radios in this thread.
Hi!
That's what I was about to say: if I understood correctly what I read, having a ROM that allows you to choose between network modes (LTE/HSPA/GSM) is not sufficient. Your radio should also be unlocked -- like Rogers' radio. Changing the settings in your ROM when you use a locked radio -- like AT&T's radio -- would have no effect.
I've tried using this feature in CM9 and it doesn't seem to work. It was noted on their list of problems but I don't know if it was ever resolved. I have an unlocked RAT and I still can't get it to work right. Somewhat annoying because during the day I'd like to have it to save battery, but basically I gave up on trying to get it to work.

Sorry that doesn't seem to work. That may only work in Touchwiz based OSes, but in CM9 it's not doing anything.
Reported this belongs in q&a or the developers thread itself not in the general section.

Yes, I have rooted my new skyrocket with cwm touch recovery and flashed CM9 Stable version and it seems to working perfectly for me. .

I know it works on my ROM (EMBRYO) always had this feature since I travel to India it works perfect. You need to be SIM unlocked and a RAT unlocked RADIO (like any Rogers RADIO NOT ATT)..

You mean I need to unlock my phone in order to get this to work? I didn't have to fully unlock my Nexus 1 to do it. Is it different with the Skyrocket?
No you have to use a rogers radio rat unlocked isn't the same as unlocking the phone

odin to rogers stock flash rogers stock ics modem first. Then root and install cm9.
If that doesn;t work try the same process just use rogers gb
the att modem does strange things with network selection. It works for me when I dont use automatic network selection

I tried doing the ODIN with the Rogers ROM and it kept failing. I had to then install a custom recovery and then flash CM9.1 and it still didn't work. Before trying this I tried another ROM (Embryo) to see if that could toggle and it couldn't either. :crying:

[Q] JB Radios t-mobile / rogers

Good day people
Im a newb when it comes to radios...
i have rooted / unlocked and installed the cyanogen superlite JB Rom
which i love
Now i'm in canada and traveling to the states in about 2 weeks and i have a prepaid sim cad but its not activated
i have traveled to the states before and used the t-mobile pay by the day plan but could never get any better than 2g connectivity because i have the stock rogers radio...
after doing some reading i have learned that i need to flash another radio... i have flashed different roms etc so i know i can do it...
but im unsure of a few things.
is there a radio that is universal? which will give me 4g / lte on rogers and t-mobile so i dont have to flash when i get off the plane?
if not what are some radios that will work with JB and give me 4G connectivity with T-mobile?
also what radio would i want to revert back to stock rogers / att radio?
i know everyone one says try different ones but im in a different country so i would like to have everything ready to go as soon as i land...
Thanks
Rom...
I am not sure about that specific Rom, but I know with the Official Team Chopsticks version - they list UVLE1 as the radio.
I know that some Roms have modified radios/kernels so check with the Rom Dev for which one he recommends as he knows what he has baked into the rom...
If you are really scared about it, download several and have them handy on your SD card and when you get here you can simple try several and see if one yields better connection speeds for you.
As far as reverting for ATT/Rogers I believe UCLI3 is the latest but might not be the best for your area... UCLF6 was our previous radio and I get good results with both..
Just make sure you make a GOOD nandroid backup and try them all....
Good luck!
tmo uses a different frequency than rogers/att, so the tmo compatible radio has to be flashed, to my knowledge noone modified a rogers/att radio to work with tmo's 3g 4g, im not sure they have lte, theres a few threads on which tmo radio works well with the skyrocket, and remember to add the tmo's apn. need ics radios to work with jb roms. read the links below

I am also in Canada, have had great luck using the T-Mobile card, but unfortunately not with getting my speed up. I did try downloading several different radios and flashing them while in the US.
Unfortunately it went from 2g data to no data or reception whatsoever. So I restored to my nandroid backup and continued on with 2g.
Just wondered though, did you say ics radios are compatible with jellybean? I've been wanting to make the jump to jellybean on Rogers, but wasn't sure if I'd lose my Lte speeds. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
