Voice Commanding Skyrocket via bluetooth sux - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Is there an app out there for this device that really works over bluetooth? The gingerbread release voice command was horrible and now that ICS (rogers stock and other ics roms) all suck for this feature. The ability to voice command the phone to do a task seems to be a hard thing to have happen! I've used several different bluetooth devices and the simple task of getting the phone to listen to the bluetooth mic instead of the phone mic seems impossible. If that wasn't enough of a problem, its impossible to get the tts engines to route audio to the bluetooth device instead of the skyrocket speakers! I've tried vlingo, svoice, and others, they all have the same issues of audio input and output.
Arrrrg really frustrating. I just want the ability to command my phone by voice (i.e. "what time is it?", "check weather", "check text messages"... all the things vlingo does) and have the phone reply through the bluetooth device connected! My old blackberry bold 9700 did all this like a champ! This is a handy feature while riding motorcycle.
Anyhow, does anyone have any thoughts?

bluetooth dialing

I read over at cnet today a feature on FROYO.
"Froyo highlights
Of the significant changes in Froyo, the new Bluetooth an app-saving capabilities stand out. Drivers using any version of the operating system prior to Android 2.2 are unable to initiate phone calls through their Bluetooth headsets, a vast inconvenience for those who strive to go hands-free. In our tests, pairing and voice dialing were on point."
I have my phone hooked up to my Nissan Altima and when i press call on my steering wheeling, My captivate makes the call just like every other phone i've had. Same thing with my other car, the Benz's B67875878 BT module.
Why are they saying this about 2.1 when it's not true?
I have 2 different blue tooth headsets ( a blueant, and a plantronics ) and neither of them allow for voice dialing.
ahhh. that answers it. It's voice dialing. that's what they meant.
The article said "initiate phone calls through their Bluetooth headsets". That's what was confusing me. I guess most cars i've had, use an internal voice command that stores a digital number with a voice. So when i tell my car, "CALL HOME", it only is transmitting the number, not the voice data.
I think most articles are exaggerating the lack of this feature, most cars come equipped with voice tech that is internal to the auto or GPS device.

Cars come equipped with Bluetooth systems are still a minority. For most of us that can't afford a luxury car, BT headset is all we can afford. So, yes, BT dialing is an important feature. And I'm glad Android finally get it.
i dunno know about that. The benz is luxury, but my altima sure isn't. And nowadays, every car can get handfrees calling. Every ****ty ford has 'sync' which comes with it. Most newer cars have the bluetooth handsfree, it's the iphone sync to media player they it expensive.
I think I uderstand exactly what they are talking about. I have a Ford Edge with the Sync system. With my windows mobiel phones I was able to download the phonebook from my exchange account into the sync radio. I than could voice dial by saying Dial followed by the contact name.
Since getting the Captivate, my first Android phone, I have lost the ability to do this. When I tell the sync system to download the phonebook it seems to do so. But than I an unable to dial via voice. When I navigate the phonebook from the sync radio It seems all I have are the dumb AT&T information numbers that come with the phone.
I believe this has to do with the way the two differene OS's handle the contact synchronization of exchange accounts. With Windows Mobile it actually downloaded the cantacts from your exchange and synchronized them with your local phonebook. Android seems keep the contacts from the different sources seperate so the Exchange contacts never make it to the "local phonebook" that systems like "Sync" interact with.
This is just a theory as I am not a developer or anything. What bother's me is that my buddy bought a Droid X and is able to use his with "Sync" type systems. I don't knwo if this has something to do with the Blur software or not but it kind of made me think my theory didn't hold any water.
About time! I miss this feature from my blackberry!

[Q] Android 'Voice command'? A2DP?

I've had my new x10 for nearly a month, but I'm having trouble getting the functionality of one of my favorite Windows Mobile apps: Voice Command.
Does anyone have a good list of programs to grab for Android 2.1 that could perform the same workload as VC? I know Vlingo comes close, but it doesn't interface with my BT Headset the way VC did.
Features I'm missing:
- Voice output to BT Headset
- Activate voice control via BT Headset (On my Plantronics 320, I could do a long-press on the headset's control button to activate VC and give it orders)
One other function I'm missing is the ability to output media audio to my headset like 'acbToggleBT' would do. I've tried a few A2DP apps on the market, but they don't work. I'd appreciate some suggestions on this as well!
I finally got vlingo working properly, but there's a small detail.... It doesn't read incoming messages through the headset. Am I missing a setting or tweak to enable this?
I think there Cyberon offers Cyberon Commander for Android, which unlike its predecessor does not require tags. I have not yet tried it, but I, too, am looking for an MSVC replacement in the Android world.
is it only me, or voice command are pretty useless?
I can't really imagine any use for them besides while probably driving.

[Q] Android Bluetooth Issues...Texting

Hello all!!
I've been having a hard time with this, and looking to see if this is possible with the combination I am using.
I am having trouble getting SMS to read through TTS on android 2.3.6. The phone is the MB860 Atrix 4g.
Issue: I have an Alpine head unit in my car that does HSP and A2DP. Everything works great. I can stream through A2DP from all programs. I can send phone calls through the radio or as they come in. I can even voice dial through it by accessing Voice Commands or Vlingo.
1. What I am dying to do is find the right program or combination of programs to allow the radio to see an incoming text message (using TTS) as a PHONE CALL and allow it to interrupt CD's and Tuner mode also. This is already possible through the A2DP profile for streaming music through the radio (obviously, internal to the phone)
I currently use Handcent for texting (does TTS through A2DP).
I also sparingly use Vlingo for in car mode (Does NOT play well with Handcent, If it did....my problem would be 90% solved)
Vlingo must see notifications from the stock messaging app in order to start reading the messages. (Why handcent doesnt play well will vlingo)
I just found A2DP Volume, which SUPPOSEDLY allows handcent support and allows you to choose which audio stream to put the TTS on.
I couldnt get ANY of the streams to work. (I do have PICO turned on. that was my first mistake)
In reality, overall, I would like to have Vlingo in In Car mode, to read txt to me from safe reader. I would like to respond by voice using vlingo to send the message back (This works)
2. Could I use Tasker to switch messaging apps whenever bluetooth is active.
3. The over all situation: vlingo doesnt get notifications from Handcent (which i COULD stop using handcent just for that) but i MUSTalso be in BT audio mode on the radio inorder to hear my texts read aloud.... I WOULD like to have it interrupt other modes by "faking" a phone call
This is alot to chew on.....but thanks to anyone who spends the time to read it and offer advice!!!

[Q] Bluetooth Voice Command prompts not loud enough / Nexus 5 and Pioneer CD-BTB200

Hey,
I am having trouble with my Pioneer CD-BTB200 Bluetooth Adapter, which is a common problem, according to the very few available threads on the internet.
This also didn't work with any other Smartphone before i.e. Samsung S3 or Blackberry Bold 9700.
Cliffnotes:
-pairing, media streaming (different source) and receiving and making calls works great! No issues there
-transfering the contact list results in a big mess, I have to dig in there if I can figure it out or if I just transfer one contact after another....
-now for the problem.......I installed Cyberon Voice Commander because it gives me the best behaviour and voice recognition since I am a native German speaker. Google, Dragon and AIVC don't work really well. But it doesn't matter which voice assist app I use, because it is the Bluetooth adapters fault. The Nexus 5 is rooted and runs stock Kernel with KitKat 4.4.2.
When I press the voice dial button on my Pioneer AVH-P5000DVD deck it activates the Cyberon Voice Commander app (or whichever is set as default). so far so good, that is what I want.
But! the dialog between me and the phone is almost impossible because the output volume over the car speakers is way to low. I have to literally pick up the phone and look at it's display to see what the voice commanding app is doing because you have to wait until it is finished asking what I want to do. (just holding a phone is illegal in Germany)
Assuming the app understood me right and starts dialing everything turns to be fine from that point because the volume of the actual call is perfect!
When the phone talks back to me I have to crank the volume all the way up to understand it a little bit and then turn it back down fast before the phone call starts or it'll blow the speakers out....since my car is quite loud when on temperature I don't think I will understand anything when I am driving.
I heard that the app TASKER could be programmed to raise the Bluetooth volume at a certain point and then lower it again. I checked but it only goes up to 15, which I already have set before with the stock volume slider. Additionally I have no idea how to configure Tasker to (maybe) get rid of the problem.
Has anyone ever heard of a similar problem and / or has an idea how to handle it?
Again, it's only the voice command prompts that are way to quiet when I start the voice dialing function via Bluetooth, everything else is fine.
Fixed the issue with SoundAbout!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.woodslink.android.wiredheadphoneroutingfix&hl=de
Now the voice prompts play loud and clear over the car speakers! Every other volume managing app failed miserably!
I used the latest Beta Version btw, going to buy the Pro Version soon.

I did very little changes to the settings, if anyone is interested I can hook you up with some screenshots

I have this issue as well. SO what did you have to do with this app?

Google Maps Navigation and Bluetooth Source Woes

Here's my woe:
I want to be able to play my FM Radio (or CD, or USB stick - just any audio source I choose in my car) and hear Google Maps Navigation over my car spearkers. Currently I can do that if I listen to BT audio and listen to music from my phone.
My work phone is an Iphone 5s and it does this flawlessly because there's a checkbox option in google maps navigation settings "Play as Phone call" which allows it to work flawlessly. The Android app doesn't have that option. Why is that?
I have tried SoundAbout and it's terrible. Half the audio plays on the phone then it switches to my speakers and is terrible and skips words. As for other apps, I've tried BTmono, I've googled my fingers to nubs and tried every setting (turn off multimedia on the phone, on the car etc).
I'm wondering if I root this phone can I fix this at all? Or is there an alternative APK of maps with that option (maybe beta or something)
(Also can you get Google Now voice to go over the car audio like the iphone voice commands does natively, Google Now requires it to be in BT audio source as well.)
I also know this is not car specific because I tested it with a VW Passat with my phone and a Samsung Galaxy S5 and Motorola Droid something or another my coworker owns and it behaves the same in his car as well as mine.
This feature is absolutely frustrating and a dealbreaker for me. I'd happily just use my work phone in the car but anything on that phone is subject to FOIA from the general public. No thanks to that. I asked in another forum and they said it's because the iphone doesn't do a2dp or bluetooth audio out or whatever but that's not true, my iphone does play music over the bluetooth audio source. And I realize the iphone isn't as sophisticated, I'm android through and through, which is why this is making kittens cry blood for me.
Please help me. And Thank you so much for even reading!
Info:
Phone: Samsung Galaxy s6 (lollipop)
Car: 2012 Camry (No entune).
I've come back to the forums for this exact problem you are describing. I believe it's true that for Google Maps voice prompts, the iPhone will indeed route them using HFP (hands free protocol) to mimic a phone call, so your car will lower the radio volume and let the voice prompt through. As far as I can tell Android has no such similar feature, and yes it's annoying as heck. Since Google Maps works on iOS but not on Android, I can only conclude that this is some oversight by the Android team, or perhaps some kind of hardware limitation that Google doesn't think is worth spending money on.
I'm a bit surprised that after all my internet searching, this problem hasn't made a big enough fuss to get to Google's attention.
I wish they would fix this and am surprised more people are not making a fuss about it
I have made an app for that. It's called AudioBT on Google Play...
Two Years Later
And this is still an issue. And when connected to my truck via bluetooth it won't give voice directions through my phones speaker either. Hard to convince someone Android is better than ios when something that works so well with an iPhone doesn't work at all with an Android. Please fix this!
