Q: language packs for custom roms - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Thanks Repeating: I don't think Eli types English like yoda. He may have been using Google translate the whole time and it turns out Google translate reads Hebrew like yoda. So, if anyone knows how to stick a Hebrew language pack into a custom rom, (SUCH AS CM9 BUT ANY OTHERS AS WELL) help a fellow human being out?

T*Omnia English Translation of menus and Dialogs from Korean..How??

Hello all
A friend of mine is living in Korea will bring me his new T-Omnia next week. The ROM that comes with it is in Korean and he has some trouble navigating though it as everything is in Korean. I tried to find a WWE ROM for the T*Omnia but got nothing.
Question: is there an easy way to translate the menus and dialogs to English.
It won't be that easy. The T*Omnia is sold only in Korea, so no WWE ROM's exist for it. There are software solutions that can translate the menus in russian or bulgarian but I don't think something similar exists for english as it is the default language if WinMobile If course you can try to hack some other translation of WinMobile (bulgarian for example) and apply it to the T*Omnia but there are still 2 issues:
1. No guarantee that such a solution will work with korean ROM. It's intendet to localize WWE ROM's. On the other hand a friend of mine localized a NL Diamond ROM successfully, so it may be worth a shot
2. The T*Omnia has a (still) non-standart resolution. Just look at the HD compatibility list for problematic apps So this is also a possible issue.
Anyway. Here is the link to such a localization program. It supports a number of languages, so it may be of some help to you.

you could always cook us an english rom- i would love a T*Omnia running english!!!
none of the software in the link seem to have the ability to localize to english
i guess having the ability to simply have the main menus in english is "good enough" untill Samsung releases a WWE version of the rom. if someone can help with that, that would be great.
anybody can help with this?
I second this - I have a sch-m490 could anyone cook an english rom.
Same here, need that rom badly. Anyone please?
BUMP please help with this. Im in korea and i really cant use my phone right now. I couldnt enjoy my omnia. Please please help.
Please guys im so desperate here. Anyone please.

How to add native language support?

Hi guys, this is my first thread in XDA!
Been lurking around a bit though the past couple of weeks and let me point out how amazing this community is!
OK so here is my query (sorry if this has been posted here before):
I'm a Swede, living in Sweden. I've ordered the SNS (my first android device so bare with me) from the USA and it should arrive sometime next week.
I know that the phone doesn't come with any support for the Swedish language. My guess is that they just want to make it harder for retailers to grey import the phone to a region where it shouldn't be sold (even though it will be sold in Sweden soon...).
So, is it possible to add support for the Swedish language somehow? (Keyboard, dictionary, system language...etc).
If so, how do I do it? I've seen some keyboard apps (pre-Gingerbread keyboard) for the Swedish language on the market but some of them don't work with Gingerbread and most of them seem to come with a lot of bugs (except for Swype). Also, I would need a dictionary, and the system language is nice but not crucial.
Isn't there a better way?
Thanks in advance guys!

Hi, a swede with the NSN here as well
To my knowledge, there are no way to get native swedish language support on the stock rom. The "nödlösning", that actualy works quite well is to use a third party keybord. I'm using Swiftkey, that has a swedish dictionary and swedish text prediction.
But if someone know about a way to get a swedish stock gingerbread keyboard, I would be delighted to hear.
Thanks for the reply
I guess I'll have to use either Swiftkey or Swype. If anyone knows another solution I would be happy to hear it

[Q] European Stock Image for US WiFi Xoom

Hi all,
I have bought a WiFi Xoom in US but it's a gift for someone who doesn't speak English. Does anyone know where to download the stock image that contains Italian?
Many thanks!
Max
Bad news, not available and might not become available.
Two options: install a free kernel and add 0.5 language pack (major event)
or
use more locale app and change manually to "it US".
All apps will be in Italian, just the system will still be in English.

thanks hdtvpower!
nice app, I installed it, though for someone that does not speak one word in English and is new to technology in general (and not that young anymore ) even just the system settings in English could be a big issue. I guess I better return this device and get a European one.
thanks for your help.

Google Now and other than English on stock ROM

Hello,
on the stock Jelly Bean ROM, for now for Google Now to be able to speak, we need the Xoom to be set in English language (both the Android menus and the Google Now language).
If we choose French or Spanish as the Jelly Bean language, and change the Google Now language to French or Spanish, then Google Now does not speak anymore.
As the stock ROM does not have the "download language pack" button (anyway, even with custom JB ROMs including this button, I never heard a Xoom speaking any other language than English, is it possible on custom ROMs ?), does anyone know if and when Google planned to add other languages for Google Now to speak other than English ?
Thanks

Google Now will only speak if you choose english. It will not speak if you choose another language.
So my question is : does anyone know when Google will let Google Now speak other language than english ?

What's strange is that I couldn't find any information about that nowhere. Just like if only english speakers are using Google Now, and the rest of the world does not care ...
I really don't understand ...

Multilinguage ICS advice

Hello guys. I was recently given a MT4G Slide to flash with any custom ROM (preferably ICS), with key criteria being stability and availability of various languages (not just keyboard, but change the whole OS). The phone will be used in Russia, therefore that's the language that needs to be added. I did look at most ROMS and no one really specifies which languages if any are in the ROM. I assume most slim ROMs don't have anything other then basic english/spanish. I wanted to ask if anyone with good stable ICS ROM can check if they have the Russian in the language selection menu. I understand it will be hard to come by as this is a US-only variant, but has hoping that many one of the cooks used stock google with multiple languages pre-installed.
Also, how hard would it be to remap the hardware keyboard or has anyone seen or knows where to purchase cyrilic keyboard for the device? Thanks for any info anyone can provide.

Hi there!
I've already adopted the keyboard for russian locale. I'll provide you some instructions a bit later, when I'll be at my home computer. I use Russian Keyboard app with Virtuos Infinity beta1 mod, and I like it a lot - it supports custom layouts via xml, language toggle with sym button, and some other perks. Stay tuned

First of all, this is the wrong section for creating this kind of threads.
CyanogenMod (CM 9.1) supports all bunch of languages including Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic, many Asian languages and a lot more.
SKAm69, CM out-of-the-box does not support localization of the hardware keyboard - a third party app is needed for that. As for UI translation, I personally prefer English UI anyway.
So... here we go.
The archive includes: keychars/keylayouts - put it to corresponding folder in /system/usr and fix permissions (root is a must!), xml file for RuKeyboard and xls table to understand which letter goes where. Everything is made and tested on an ICS rom.
I usually switch languages with single press of the sym button, shift+sym does the symbol selection popup, alt+sym gives the smiles popup window.
www./com button is mapped as a tab, alt+www. gives a "www." input, shift+www. calls web popup window.
Every keymap can be customized using these files - just lurk a little bit and make a try.
