Not sure if it's a soft or hard brick, because the darn thing does not turn on at all.
When plugged into the computer, my computer makes the sound when a new device is plugged in and then continuously makes the sound when a device is removed.
Can't turn on phone, so can't get into bootloader or recovery.
Here is what I did:
Ran trickdroid TMOUS 4.0 for about a week no problems.
Just now installed MDJ's new kernel(plus the necessary script and modules), and updated radio(yes, the US radio).
Everything went well, I disabled smokin1337's scripts, and instead enabled setcpu with fairly conservative settings (only maxed at 1.5 Ghz, a screen off profile and a battery percentage profile).
Decided to reboot to ensure changes would stick and BAM! Brick.
I am going to call warranty and get a new one soon. In the meantime, I am going to leave the phone completely off charger and when the weekend is over, try to plug it in and boot into recovery and start from scratch. If anybody has any ideas to try, let's hear them.
Also, I've rooted many many many phones before. I'm not a noob to android modding, and I'm 100% positive I didn't eff something up. I've rooted and installed trickdroid on my sister and my dad's phone too, no problems. They do not have the kernel or the radio.
Must have installed wrong radio which could be perminant brick don't take my word for it though wait for a developer

I guess so. I just checked the radio files, and they are the same name. I don't have an md5 to check it against though. Bummer

Try holding the power button for 10 seconds, you will see the capacative lights flash, let go and quickly hold vol down, while holding vol down press the power button. If that boots into the bootloader, we can bring you back.
Is adb working when pluged in?

There's a guide in the dev section on how to adb push a Rom to the sdcard
Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2
To format the sdcard flash the stock recovery via fastboot and format the sdcard in the bootloader menu then flash a custom recovery and mount the sdcard via usb or push a zip via adb.

Thanks for the replies, folks, but let me reiterate again that I CANNOT get into boot loader. It does not power on, no splash screen, no boot up, nothing. I'm assuming the worst, that I either somehow screwed the radio flash or got a bad download of the radio or something. Seems highly unlikely to me, especially since I was able to boot and go through normal operations for a little bit before deciding to reboot. That's the way it is I suppose.
Also, to answer another user's question, the phone does not respond to adb. If anyone else has an idea, I'm willing to try anything. But to repeat, I cannot get to boot loader.

Does fastboot reboot or fastboot reboot bootloader do anything? Also if you need a real hard reset find the youtube videos that show how to replace the display and disconnect the battery.

Okay, finally some good news. I took the phone to the t-mobile store with intention of getting it replaced. While there, the phone magically turned on, but couldn't get past the lock screen. I was a little worried he would say something because of the custom splash screen, but he didn't notice that or the bootloader screen saying "tampered". And didn't say anything when he got to the TWRP screen. I immediately grabbed it and said "I cant take it from here". Now, the phone is working, but the SD card can't be mounted. So I plugged it into my computer and reformatted the SD card. Going to try flashing now.
To answer a couple questions, the phone had about a 90% charge.
Fastboot is a no go, because the phone *did* not turn on and did not answer to adb.
long story short, I believe I had some kind of data corruption on the SD card. Not sure how/why or what fixed it. I've just gotten done adding another ROM to the SD card, and i'm going to reflash and report back. Thank you all for your help.
Any update?
I'm experiencing a similar problem. I didn't fully brick my phone. Just went into a soft brick. Flashed MIUI, but decided I wanted to go back to stock, so I tried to factory reset. Now my SD card cannot be mounted and none of the ROMs I try to flash via Fastboot are going through. I'm stuck on MIUI with no SD card mount.

Hello all,
Just found a neat little work around for getting into recovery when you have a radio on your SDcard. You don't need a card reader or anything for this one. Tonight I accidentally flashed a Sense kernel while trying to get CM7 up and running. I got stuck at the HTC screen and it refused to boot any farther. So I had the choice of going to walmart and buying an SDCARD reader, but I thought that I could find a way around it, and I did. Sorry if this has already been posted.
Steps:
1. Connect to a charger and remove the SDCARD from the phone, replace the battery and then boot into Hboot screen. Normally this would ask to update the radio if an SDCARD with a PG05img.zip file was inserted, and regardless of whether you accepted or declined, you were forced to reboot, with no way to get into recovery.
2. Remove the battery from the phone. Hboot will stay powered up while connected to your charger.
3. Reinsert the SDCARD and replace battery.
4. Select recovery and your phone will boot into recovery for you, and you can restore a backup, or reflash your rom, or whatever you were trying to accomplish before you got into a bootloop or bad rom install or whatever.
Again, I don't know if this has been posted before, but I thought it was a cool little workaround for those times you need to get to recovery but can't due to the PG05img.zip file still being on your SDcard.
Hey nice find!
Neat, I didn't realize HBoot would stay up without a battery.
This is a nice find. We should have a tips and tricks sticky for the bolt.

or you can use ADB and type "adb reboot recovery", or if you have the 4 in 1 reboot mod on your rom selecting to reboot to recovery bypasses hboot also
And don't forget rom manager, that has a feature that will boot directly into recovery also
wow nice! I had this same problem and I had to grab my friend's fascinate to delete the radio in order to get into recovery. I was trying the method as you by taking out the battery but I didn't try it at the hboot screen so the phone kept powering off.

This method is there for the times you are stuck in a bootloop, but due to the fact that you have a radio (PG05img.zip) on your sdcard, you can't get into recovery to restore a backup. Like if you flash a sense kernel and are trying to run CM7 like I did. This avoids the need to have to use a card reader to remove the file from the root of the sdcard, or using a buddies phone.

Awesome trick. Still a good idea to rename it or delete it, but this is great for people who inevitably ignore it lol.
Sent from my ThunderBolt using XDA App
Yeah, I forgot to remove the file from my sdcard before flashing the new rom, and that's what got me in trouble. I usually do delete the file after flashing a radio, but I forgot, then when the kernel didn't agree with the rom, I was stuck.
Or if you have rom manager u can boot up then reboot to recovery ....
Nvm I see what u did lol

This does not seem to work for me. When I am in HBoot and pull the battery while its plugged into the charger it just shuts off.
I might actually give this a try tonight despite not having this problem yet. Been running das BAMF GB and now with the bricking scare that's been going on, might as well make sure I can recover if need be.

Make sure you're using a wall charger and not using an extension cable or any sort of power splitter. I ran into the same issue when using a USB cable and when using a wall charger on an extension power splitter. I plugged straight into the wall and it worked like a champ.
Pretty cool ... hopefully I'll never need it
Seriously though, I had this happen while at work and was freaking out. Lucky for me the IT guy had a micro SD card reader on hand (I do have one at home). But it's good to see this little trick so that if this were to happen to me again while at work I can save myself the embarrassment of having to ask the IT guy for his card reader again lol
I was using a wall charger but I had it plugged into the lamp power outlet in the hotel I'm staying in, guess it wasn't enough power. Ended up getting a micro sd card reader at wally world, phone was stuck at HTC screen after flashing latest gingervitis.
Guys - I need help. I think i just blew my phone.
I flashed THE Sense-O-Maniac ICE ROM after a clean wife and my phone wouldn't boot. It kept getting stock on the Beats Logo. So I rewiped everything and reflashed this ROM. - Same result.
I then thought, maybe I should also update the firmware, though I am pretty sure, that my firmware was up to date.
So i reflashed the firmware on phone but it still wouldnt boot.
I took the memory card out and deleted the the firmware file so that I could not flash another rom. But when I tried to boot in Recovery my screen just went blank.
JUST BLANK
When I switch my phone on, I get a blank screen. The screen does light up though, but nothing shows.
If i connect the phone to USB, then the screen again lights up, even without the batter.
Has my phone gone poof??? Please help.

Did you update your kernel or tried to use backup or install just old ROM, so far it doesn't sound bricked but just something missing, what was your previous ROM?

try "adb reboot recovery" continuously when booting the phone, ignoring all of the "error: device not found"
Boot while holding the volume down key (meaning power btn+ vol-). that should take you to the boot loader. once you're there, go to fastboot and flash a recovery image. you seem to have corrupted yours.
I had the same troubles with that rom.

Sjeez mate, what is your problem?
Posting here and in my thread with the same issue.
Without any detailed issue report.
I offered my help in my thread and tried to contact you for several days now via PM.
So i can help you out of this mess via Talk or IRC.
But if you fail to reply to me which i see as not accepting my help.
Sort it out for your self and going on by nailing me down.
But don't say i didn't want you to help.
With regards,
The cook of this rom who seems to killed his phone.
So I rooted my G2x to 2.3.3 and decided to update to the Hellfire ice cream sandwich. I couldn't figure out how to turn the gapps file from md5 to a zip file, so I decided to reboot the phone with only flashing the hellfire file instead and yes I wiped the phone before doing so. I waited more than 10 min possibly it was over 30 min and the phone seemed it was in a loop but the screen just kept on blinking like turning on and off without the LG symbol coming on.
There was also no icon indicating its installing the new OS nothing on the screen. Does it mean the phone is just doing its thing? Because after 30 min I pulled the battery out (yes I know scary) and went back to recovery mode and NVflashed the phone without the battery in it. Now I'm trying to recover the previous ROM or even back to stock but not sure how.
Currently I'm waiting for the phone to do its thing, not sure whats happening just need clarification on whether its truly updating or is it stuck since I see nothing on the screen. Please can someone shed some light on this for me?
How did you root the first time, what are the steps you are trying. Look at the nvflash steps see what they say will happen if that happened then you should be good to go, there has yet to be a bricked phone. Read the rest of the threads that are labeled "bricked" and read more.

Also worth noting that an MD5 is a hash, you use it to check against your file to make sure it's a complete download. It's not the zip you need.
Then how do I get the zip file I need? when downloaded its a md5 and I can't seem to find anywhere on how to switch it to the file I need.

Gapps shouldn't prevent you from booting..this seems like a bad flash to me.. try to boot into recovery and flash the rom until the installation lasts about 8-10 seconds at least. You should also wipe data/cache and format /system in mount and storage (CWM recovery) before. If you have a nandroid backup from your stock rom, it could be restored from the recovery also

I have done that my problem is after the installation I reboot the phone and wait and the LG comes on for a few seconds goes away and the screen remains black but blinks and goes off and on and off and on. It does this over and over for a long time. My issue is ..is this normal while its rebooting the new rom? even after 30 min or more? If not how do I get the phone to come back on?
And if i can't get the phone to turn on is there any way to access the SD card to put a recovery file on there to restore the phone back to its settings?

No that's not normal. Is it flashing the rom really quick like 1-2 seconds that means a bad flash and you need to redo the flash process again (no wiping) just re-install.
For the other question, use a thumbstick drive with a micro sdcard slot. Extremely beneficial to have!

it's a bad flash, try reflashing. Your phone is fine.

I forgot to wipe my cache and went to install 4.5 and I am stuck in bootloop. X+Power gives me the android error screen, M+Power allows me into the main menu but I cannot use AP fastboot, SBF motorola will not pick up my phone and the screen will show a connection to the USB cable. I've never had a problem before but also have never forgotten to wipe the cache so any thoughts would help.

I would but I get android error screen with exclamation mark each time regardless of how I access recovery X+Power or vol +,- and Power then going to recovery, I wouldn't have thought that not wiping the cache would have been the cause but it was the one step I didn't do that I normally always do so I was just adding it in for information but thanks for the know how that it wasn't the cause. Any other thoughts since I cant even get into my backup ROM or recovery, I have another SD card not sure if my SD card has become fried for some reason, I will be trying that to see if maybe that is all it is.

Unfortunately you can easily tell that it is not stock ROM by bootloop
Well your computer should recognize your droid that's a common problem with Odin and Samsung one of these steps always work so try then and seen if we can't get your droid recognized NUMBER 4 WILL WORK 99% OF THE TIME BUT TRY THE OTHER METHODS FIRST 1. Use the stock cable or try a difrent port 2. If its possible on your program take out the battery and SD card as leaving them in course problems 3. Run the program as aminstrative 4. Plug the phone in and have it in download mode or whatever you call it WHILE THE COMPUTER IS BOOTING Up This will force the computer to recognize it not the best method but it always works

Plug the phone in and have it in download mode or whatever you call it WHILE THE COMPUTER IS BOOTING Up This will force the computer to recognize it not the best method but it always works

Thanks step 4 ended up being the working method, happened again when loading gingerbread back on, so I walked through it again, removed ICS from memory card wiped phone completely and then loaded gingerbread back on and finally had success. Thanks for all the help

So I was going to reinstall Cataclysm ROM because it has been giving me problems the last few days, mainly it's been dropping my WiFi signal forcing me to switch it on and off just to use my phone, like once every minute
So I downloaded the file to my device, and went to flash it, but I wiped the dalvik and cache, and I pressed data I'm pretty sure, 100% by accident cuz I was so mad at my WiFi signal constantly dropping
Anyways now my phone says "No OS Installed, are you sure you want to reboot?"
I just did a few hours worth of research and... nothing seems to work
I've tried a few ADB sideload guides but I can't seem to follow what they're saying since my screen shows something completely different than what theirs shows
I checked a couple forums too and no one else was experiencing what I am
So I've come to you guys to help D:
Basically I have TWRP installed, my computer doesn't recognize the device when I use the flashall.bat in Windows, so I tried a few different cables, same thing
Any other ideas?
I saw the USB OTG method works, should I just buy one of those and try it out?
It's just like an add on hard drive that I'll load the ROM onto right?
Do I have to flash the stock img or can I flash a new ROM, like Cataclysm again, or Carbon or something?
I'm going to go buy one of those USB OTG drives, a Kingston 32 or 64gb one from Canada Computers
#fingerscrossed it works guys!
If you have anything else for me to try let me know!

Flashall.bat, which uses the program fastboot, isnt meant to be used with a recovery (in this case, TWRP). It is to be used on the bootloader.

Back in business! Picked up a couple of USB 32GB OTGs for $15 each (WICKED)
Plugged them into my PC, transferred 3 ROMs over (Cataclysm, XtraSmooth, and Stock IMG)
Just tried Cataclysm now, and it's working, everything was successful, and no problems!
Damn I love USB OTG

If it did not work there, it must have been a missing driver issue. Or your fastboot setup.

Okay so I flashed Cataclysm ROM and XtraSmooth ROM but they both give me a black screen after the white "android" logo is done
I think its the black screen of death
Any ideas on how to get rid of it?

Got it working last night, since I couldn't do it using TWRP or CMD
I just used Wugs Toolkit, selected the bricked / bootloop option, and flashed stock + unrooted it
Loaded the newest imgs available, so I'm good for now
I'll wait a bit, see if the WiFi thing comes back on stock, if not then it was probably something to do with Cataclysm, I didn't even save any logs to hard to see what it was
Thanks for all your help though!
It didn't work because you didn't install the drivers for adb/fastboot properly. Anyhow nice to see your device is working again!
