Open the back cover, and you can find a small pin hole, between the camera and the speakers.
Its a very small hole.

This is only if you are experiencing a bootloop. If your phone is not entering download mode or recovery mode and even if a USB is not working.... As I told you the location of the hard reset button, just open the back flap and follow the instruction.
DO AT YOUR OWN RISK!
You will need two people for this.. Keep that pin hole pressed with a pin, then keeping it pressed try to enter the download mode- [Volume down + Home + Power button pursed]. Try it a couple of times and your phone will enter download mode
and then as you enter the download mode, flash to a stock firmware using odin.
Hit the THANKS button if it helped you !:thumbup:

Did you press the pin hole button carefully? Try using a thicker pin so that it is directly pressed.
Though I've never been struck hard, without the download mode, but this works fine on Samsung Galaxy sl i9003.

I tried again just now. It still wont start anything. I tried with small pin, a pen, a needle, paperclip. Nothing happen.

Well try to enter the download mode while after pressing the pin in the small hole behind.
Btw that button behind will work only if your phone is in soft brick mode. That is it atleast starts/vibrates, screen becomes little light blue when u try to start the phone.
U may need to flash the stock kernel

Try remove ur battery. Push three button to download mode (volume down+home+power). Reinsert battery while holding the button. Wait up to see phone enter download mode. If doesn't, repeat step with battery inserted in your phone. When phone enter the download mode I assume u know what to do next.

I assume you are not doing it correctly. Otherwise soft bricked generally do not even require hard reset button generally.
First press the volume down, after a second or two, press home button. Then while holding other two buttons, press power button. Hold it till it vibrates.
Then, just leave the power button. After two or three sec, leave the other two buttons.
sometimes it's hard to get the download mode, then only you need to use reset button.

I could do hardware reset, but have now poor gsm signal!
I was on CM 10 alpha4 + nicsptl kernel (Had execllent signal strength even in bathroom, lift)
Due to bad battery life I decided to go back to stock. vai xxkpe > DDLF2
After flashing latona I could not get the phone in download mode so did hardware reset (reset btton between camera and speaker + download buttons (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1411768)
I flshed xxkpe and DDLF2+ CF-root. Now I had a big signal drop problem!
So I flshed full xxkpe three times with full data wipes and falshed DDLF2 and CF-root. Same problem.
I thought CM10 + nicsptl might be better so I flashed them (flashed CM10 thrice + gapps to be sure)
Same signal problem!
Flashed signal-fix kernel, cleared dalvik same issue!
I read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776211
So I think the reason is not modem or sim. It has to do with hardware reset, I guess.
Can any one help?

Faster way to Download Screen

Not sure if this has been posted before, though I have not seen it in my searches.
Remove the battery
Plug in the USB
Hold Down Volume and and Down
While holding them down, insert the battery
and Boom - Instant download screen.
You do not have to wait for two cycles.
Put the back plate on and flash away.
This works from either "bricked" (Computer "!" Phone) or reboot.
IBTM
Not really a development topic.
i have not bricked my device from doing this but what i do is just...
1. power down device
2. hold vol +/- button
3. insert usb
and it always goes to download screen. keep in mind i have flashed my device countless times using this method and have not ran into any problems but its just a fyi

This has been posted EVERYWHERE, and (afaik) is used by pretty much everyone who flashes through ODIN.
Please, please, pretty please, mercifully please... search/read and read/search again before posting.
my favorite way is turning off phone volume + and - and inserting usb

Flash to stock JF6 using ODIN from this thread and you will lose ability to use buttons to go to recovery or download mode. Happens to me every time.
I have to apply 3 button fix to get that back

You need to press VOL - first, then press HOME key without letting go of VOL -, then press POWER button. When you feel the unit vibrates you can let go of POWER button until Downloading mode is displayed.
hi,
i do c the android logo on d scree with the text message, odin can see the deivce on com5, but just stays at the line saying connecting to deivce. The phone it self is working, but i am not happy with the upgrade, so wanted to roll back. Please help me solve this problem. The rom i upgraded to was I9003JPKP5.
The mistake i did, i think, wast not to upgrade to kpe first and then come up to kp5, i directly did a kp5, misssed that part.
Please Please help.

you need to flahs xxkpe twice to avoid camera problem too.
Weird!!!!!!!!
Tell me the method using which you flashed the firmware. Give me all the steps!
I will tell you where you went wrong!
U need to switch the phone off to get to download mode.
Also XXKPH is a final GB release. Install that by first flashing XXKPE twice, then using the single XXKPH file as the PDA in Odin with nothing else.

hi friends,
thanks for your help. I was able to get to the download menu, i removed the battery and inserted it back and used the assigned keys to get to it, the reflashed the same set of files i had, now i am getting the download menu and the camera is working fine.
Will download KPE and follow the instructions given on XDA step by step for the upgrade.
Thanks a lot for you help. I really appritiate it.
Hi. I tried the method up there to go to download mode but so far I can't get there. It's so weird. I can go to the recovery mode but not the download mode. Are there any more methods to go to download mode? I press all three buttons for roughly 1 min but no vibration at all. after I let go the power button, it go to the startup and stuck there.
Thanks in advance for any opinion.

can't enter download mode

volume down, power and home button combo doesn't work :/
what can i do to enter download mode?
Shut down ur device completely.
Unplug ur device from the charger or PC.
Hold down volume down and home button.
While keeping that pressed down, power up ur device.
Hold on to all three buttons until u see the download mode screen.
Hope that helps.
tnx, but i did all that several times, non of them got me into dwnload mode.
i read about some series of galaxy s, i think, which had this bug, they were unable to enter dnwload as well. i hope it's not the same problem
so is there a way to enter dwnload or do update some other way? i'm on 2.3.4 gingerbread.xwkg8
if you have 'USB jig' use that or buy one . It will be always useful.
(in eBay lowest price will be $1.55 including shipping to many country. But, it will take 2-4 weeks)

Bring ur phone back to Samsung and have it changed.
No point having a phone that doesn't boot into stock recovery or stock download mode.
Both these functions should work on a stock phone and not void warranty.
i tried again several times today and still nothing..
ima have it replaced defo, tnx
try reset yo factory setting..

No problem
USB jig doesn't work the same way on SGR as on SGS II but it works for sure!
In case you want to reset the counter:
Enter DM using this way every time you want to reset the counter. Once you did it just remove jig, plug usb-cable and install your firmware. U should see the green text: Success to erasing the record of custom OS!
you can see it on attached pic.
ok.. have a nice day.. =)

You need to hard reset your phone!!!!! Because u bricked your phone!!
Here is the text from a thread:
This is for all those who have soft bricked their phone, if you are experiencing a bootloop or some other problem here is a detailed guide how to get your phone back to working condition. If your phone is not entering download mode or recovery mode and even if a USB jig is not possible or not working.... This is the guide for you-I do not know whether this will work in all situations but you could still try it if you have no other alternative. The Galaxy SL has a hard reset button between the camera lens and the speaker... DO AT YOUR OWN RISK!
1)Open the back over 2)Check between the Camera Lens and the speaker 3) There is a hard reset button which is a small cavity 4) You will need two people for this.. Keep that cavity pressed with a pin 5) Keeping it pressed use the download mode combo- Volume down + Home + Power pressed. 6)Wait and try it a couple of times and your phone will enter download mode 7)Flash to a stock firmware

Once you can use download mode try to flash a Rom with odin`s program. The most cook rooms have already root so you should have ur phone back!

Can I add this to the FAQ?
it's got its own thread, by adi_pat. rohan posted from there. ask adi_pat, I'm sure he'll say yes.
if you like, add the bit about taking the battery out for 30 min or whatever, 'cause it could be that having some voltage in the circuits helps maintain the "memory" of the faulty operation. after draining the voltage completely (including letting capacitors discharge), perhaps there will be no more hard bricks

Ya you are right... some components in the circuit like capacitors flip flops etc all have a particular state even in off condition after some time all the current drains from them and comes to initial condition...

Download the firmware files for your phone from Sammobile.com.. Exactly for your phone and not any other.. As it might brick your phone..
Open Odin and select respective files on respective areas..
put your phone on download mode by pressing volume down + home key + power button simultaneously..
Connect thought USB n when Odin detects your phone click start.. Remember not to click on repartition and do not clear efs of phone..
