Asking for your advice, what should I buy? - General Questions and Answers

I am buying a new phone in the next few days, but I have no idea what to get. Actually I never had this problem before because everytime I bought a new phone some device that I really must-have hit the market same time. Last time it was the htc desire.
Anyways there is no such device at the market right now so I am struggeling for what to get.
Here are my needs:
- I want pretty state-of-the-art device as I will have to use it for at least 2 years from now on.
- Big screen is not that important to me as I own a galaxy tab where I do most of my mobile browsing and youtubing.
- Camera is one of the most important features to me (mostly photos, not much videos), so a good image quality is mandatory to me.
- Good mp3 player sound quality. (I dont care about included headphones only quality of the device itself)
- I am very picky when it comes to build quality.
- Battery should last a whole day on average use.
- I don't "fancy up" my homescreens so non-customizable homescreens like on iOS would be totally ok for me.
So what do you guys think would get me satisfied? I nailed it down to sgs3, htc one x and iPhone 4s at the moment, but I am open for other suggestions.
Every suggestion might help me, so please post your thoughts!
Thanks in advance.

As a Sony fan, I would say to you take a look at Xperia S. Not the really lattest, but it runs really perfect, a really good camera (saw some comparasions, I think it looks better than GS3 one), and a perfect design. And it will have a good support from Sony.

Get the Samsung Galaxy S 3. I will never tire of recommending this phone. It fits your criteria perfectly, the international one with exynos at least.Or you could consider the Optimus 4x HD for the battery life.

Thanks for your replies!
Galaxy s3 is out for me now, I watched comparison videos alot and they all paint the same picture: the s3 has a really, really bad camera. Combined with the low sound quality this is a no-go for me.
The sony xperia s looks pretty promising!
Now my desicion list is: xperia s, htc one x, iphone 4s
Another thing I want to mention is that I dislike "purse-phones" like the note. Galaxy s3 and htc one x are pretty damn close to too-big. I bought a note for my girl but I am a dude, want to put my phone in my pants pocket.
Thanks again for your replies, I would love to read even more!

Sounds to me like you've already chosen. All that is left is the Sony Xperia S. I'd avoid iPhone, just cause it's expensive for less features.

i would personally
if i were in your shoes.ill go with htc one x.Camera great.Battery up to your criteria.screen is marvelous.Alot of support from developers for roms.and tegra 3..eve though i only own a nexus one.and been using it for three years makes me a great fan of htc and android..

One X but I'd like a confirmation that it's the newer HW now that it's confirmed there is Wi-Fi issue Also LG are releasing soon and specs look good but I've never touched one before...

Galaxy S3

Thread can be closed now.
I went to the store and tried a few devices. Galaxy s3 and htc one x are way to big for me (as expected) so the descicion was between iphone and xperia s. I almost bought the xperia because of the really great camera, but (maybe its just me) i have to hit the softkeys like 3 times until they respond :-/
Got an iPhone 4s in the end, even though it was the most expensive of all. I am pretty satisfied until now, only thing I dont like is the display, it has very weak colors. Everything else is working great for me
Thanks alot to everybody who replied!!!

Glad u like the Iphone, i had one for a week and took it back due to sound sucks, and i did not like not running android for that much money and being able to do so little i re turned and went back to my ssgII till i can get the SSG SIII

[Q] Screen Responsiveness

Hi
I'm a really happy owner if a Desire Z/G2 and after more then 1 year I'm using this phone I finally get used to the touch screen keyboard and so I'm feeling it's time to move on and buy a new phone.
The three option I'm considering are:
1) Galaxy S3
2) HTC OneX
3) Iphone "whatever new model"
I would like to keep using an android phone for many many reason but I was a little bit traumatized using an iphone 3gs of a friend of mine; that touch screen, compared with my desire z, was so much more fast with way better response!
As example I would speak about the guitar emulator program... On my phone, even o.c.'ed, often chord wasn't played and the general responsiveness was so worst compared with the iphone!
I think, but I'm not sure, that the hardware of the two mobile are more or less the same so I think it shall be something related to the touchscreen itself.
I ear then that the Galaxy S2 was the only iphone "other choice" but trying it in a shop I still felt this sort of bad responsiveness compared to an iphone.
The question is then, and please forgive the long into, how the new phone touchscreen responsiveness are, compared to the iphone one, and if it's possible to check it on the paper (is maybe something related to the pixel density or stuff like that?).
And about the 3 choices I'm considering... Is there a way to get some info on their touchscreen responsiveness (considering that the S3 is still somewhere in the mist)...i would like to don't buy the htc one x and after one month read/ understand that the s3 is so much responsive compared to it... And I would like to don't wait 1/2 months for the s3 and read/ understand that nothing can compare an iphone (that would be so bad).
Thanks for your time, waiting to read u
Itz not because of the touch responsiveness.itz because of the os.iphone and Android are really different because objective c is used in i phone and java is used in a Android. The quality assurance is better in iphone that's y u feel the difference in emulator.for your option if you want to buy an Android device then buy s3 else iphone 4s.
Xperian8~ click thanks if it helps...
So, because of the o.s. the Iphone will always give a faster response in game and apps... And why did u suggest S3 over HTC ONE X?
Will S3 have a better touchscreen?
I would like to try a Samsung after this htc... But all this maybe around there S3 low my wish to wait... Shall be 1 month, shall be 2... And... MAYBE
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using Tapatalk
Htc is having short life...whether you agree or not...but it is..the major problem is it with the touch screen it will useless after some time it won't sense the touch.and other problem is the durability..Samsung is far better from htc.but one thing i love the htc is the sense ROM..awesome no launcher is substitute for that..great interface...
Xperian8~ click thanks if it helps...
Used to love Sense too but after I tried some rom and actually I think that with few widget is possible to replace Sense all the way, even better (only the email app/ widget of Sense is still the best).
Well... Seems I have to wait... Too bad just because one x was weaving @ me today.. And OMG!
Would like to read some other opinion on the touchscreen too... But it seems that this tread became a 2 men chat

Don't know which phone to buy

hello, all
i need a good android smartphone (not to big) with nice camera. This will be my first smartphone, first i was thinking about HTC ONE S, but the mess with processors (s4 changed to s3) made me not to buy it event it was a perfect pretendend - very good camera, not big, powerful. Now i'm thinking about GALAXY S3 it has best specs so far, but I don't know if i will feel comfortable with the size of that phone, because my hands are not big.. As i read some forums about SG3 some people said that he is doesn't worth that money.. what do you think guys ? Is it worth to buy SG3 or better to wait for some new phones appear ?
I would say go for the HTC One X, was worried that the S3 would best it when it was released, I've used both for decent periods of time and i feel the X has a much better user experience
Not too big with nice camera? Maybe Xperia P?

Galaxy s3 is very good.
If you're big with camera and specs and everything, there are nothing better phone than SG3. One X is decent too, but is more laggy than SG3 and has less software feature.
If you are OK with bad camera and OK with last year spec, highly recommend GNex. Best phone IMO, especially with Jelly Bean

Why do you want a high-end device for your first smartphone? Then there's no way to improve on it. I would recommend to buy something more moderate. Would also be less expensive in case you brick it. Quadcores don't really do anything for you, they don't really run android any faster in my experience.
I can tell you that it is not very enjoyable to have a larger screen than you prefer. It's a good idea to try a few sizes to narrow down what size fits your taste.
go for a xperia s.cool design and awsm camera.
Sgs3 hands down, so many more pros than cons compared to the HTC one series phones.

ehh
Galaxy S3 is an amazing phone, but if this is your first smart phone, why not go for something cheaper like the Galaxy nexus (another amazing phone) Yeah it doesn't look as nice on a spec sheet, but it comes stock with jellybean now and is overall a very nice phone.

[Q] Need Help. S3 Vs One X. Help me choose the best

Hi all,
I heard a lot about the xda community, and its truly a wonderful place. I own a samsung galaxy s phone and I am looking to purchase a new phone, currently I am confused in between the HTC one x and Samsung galaxy s3. Can you guys please help me in choosing the one correct for me. If any of you can take some time out and pin down some content which can help me choose, it would greatly help me.
I am looking for a phone which looks great and does'nt get outdated quickly in the future, I am really annoyed by the fact that samsung didnot rollout ICS for galaxy S. So i need a beast which looks really nice. I have narrowed my options to S3 and One X.
Any help would be grateful.and sorry If i am not supposed to post such threads( I am new here).

To many options out there right now my friend..down to you which one you really want to go for...New Nexus phone is coming out..Even though it is LG still sounds quite interesting cause it is a Nexus so it has Google behind it...Then you have the One X+....even if you went for the original One X you can be assured you have great support for it already development wise and it is still one sexy phone

I'll reply to this later in more detail, as I currently have both phones in my possession after a lucky win at work courtesy of HTC.
The phone I got on contract was the S3, back when the blue ones finally started showing up after they were delayed.
I'm currently in the same position as you, as I know have to make a choice between the two phones I agonized over for months before their release. I genuinely thought I'd made the right decision with the S3, but once I got hold of this One X and actually used the phone, I'm struggling to decide!
After reading plenty on XDA, and assuming the battery life was awful on the One X, I've been really pleasantly surprised by this handset. It's odd how the One X actually feels 'better' in the hand, and how real world use of the phone usually gets me around 2 days of charge, which is no different to the S3 for me!

Wow, Thanks guys for quick responses. I am totally stuck between both the phones. I have another question, did you experience any kind of slight lag in any of these phones? Cuz my Galaxy S lags a lot, specially when I tend to start an app, it takes some time to launch it. I heard there is no lag whatsoever and the UI is pretty smooth, but since you people have used them for quite some time now, have you ever experienced any lag?
Thanks guys this is really helpful.
Honestly there isn't a lot between them, only really personal preferences. Ask here, you'll be told the One X is the best. Ask in the SGS3 forum and you'll be told that's the best.

I have also had GS1, 2, 3 and tbh when I had the GS2 i preffered the sensation XE in terms of looks etc but people were saying the camera/battery life wasnt great and the s2 was better in both those respects and it is the same thing again this time with the HOX I always preffered the HOX from the start but the camera quality and battery life was a issue once again and the video recording frame rate was low at 24fps.
However this time, the HOX under firmware update and the upcoming jelly bean update look very promising not to mention the tegra 3 games and the playstation store, plus the fact you can take pics/videos, watch your videos in the stock music player, use the internet with 3g connection and olisten to music whilst in a phone call.
When watching videos or movies you can take pics, the fact that you are not restrcited to sending 3 messages before the phone turns the whole message into a multimedia one and when sending texts to multiple people you are restricted to 10 contacts at a time which is just jarring.
Also the S3s low light camera/video performance is less than stellar. Alot of the motion features on the s3 turned out to be gimmicky tbh, like smart stay doesnt work all the time sometimes I am looking at the screen and it still goes off, swipe to do screen shots is freaking jarring as because you have to touch the screen of the phone sometimes it moves what ever your trying to capture and it sometimes takes 5 attempts. I prefer the screen on the HOX aswell.
Battery life isnt actually great unless you have power saver on, take it off and quite literally watch your battery drain tbh, my 4 other friends with S3s have said the same.
TBH I must admit i did fall for the hype of the s3 and wish I just got the HOX in the first place and suffered the niggles because the s3 imo is a really boring phone. the only things I honestly prefer on the s3 is the loud call volume, well thats because outside I always have to have it on if im not using headsets because the normal level is not great, also calls are not as good with my ur beats headsets as they are in a HTC device.
I like the in call equalizer on the s3 and the Blue notification light. I am not fussed about replaceable battery or memory card slot. I dont see that stopping the icrap sorry iphones from selling in their millions.
Also tbh the s3 hoggs RAM, the other day I just had a phone call and internet on (via wi fi) and it was using 692mb out of 779mb. My GFs HOS had the sims running, internet, gallery and like 5 other things and was only using 463mb out of 685mb. The person i was on the phone to also has a S3 and only had phone call running and his phone was using 623mb of 779mb just for phone call. My S2 never did that it was always generally around 460mb with a few apps running out of 833mb.
my only problem right now is I really like the white HOX and its £380 at expansys and amazon and its still over a week to wait for the HOX+ which entices me with the 64gb memory and bigger battery but I just want to get rid of this phone now. I am trying to hang on but its just so boring i wanna get rid of it. Two of my friends were in the same predicament one of them just said F it he dont need 64gb memory and he cant wait so he went and got a grey HOX and said the battery iho isnt as bad as what he was hearing, neither is the camera plus JB is coming soon aswell.
Its interesting reading the repsonses to this thread. At the moment I have a HOX but im contemplating getting a s3..

We can all say X is better than Y, or Z has this over W. But only you can decide, may the force be with you.
Both have awesome specs and features I chose the x bec of the screen+quality of the body. I'll end up getting the s3 or note 2 to complement my note 10.1.

Defo wait for one X+
I'm the proud owner of HOX and i think HOX is much better than SGS 3 except one thing .SGS 3 has more roms to flash and if You are a flashoholic then go with S3 other than that get your self a HOX and just grab it and hold it !!! Can You feel it?? It feels like a woman but it's better
huhuhaha I'm serious
Sg3 roms are too bored, a friend of mine sold his sg3 because of that, now he is happy with his new hox and he is using jelly bean roms. Now he wants to learn the theming stuff.
Of course hox is better than sg3. NO doubt about that.
But if u can wait for hox+, it will be a wise decision

Why should i decide to stay with one s?

Hello everyone, I would like to ask you a couple of questions. HTC ONE S is a beautiful phone, fast, the best to the touch and with a processor speed but ... But in the period where they are baked increasingly cheap quad core and even dual core as the new pro s4 are faster. In addition there is the problem that is not particularly supported by Community, stay with One S?
Express your thoughts thanks
If you want a dull vanilla android then yes ! But I would stay with one s or maybe shift to one x , one x+ or Samsung galaxy s3 ,try using a aokp/aosp Rom that's how a nexus device is,, very plain !! , if you got money to spent go buy some other quad cores like one x and sgs3 , people go with HTC and Samsung coz of their innovative ui ( sense for HTC and touchwiz for Samsung) . Android has only be rocking because of Samsung HTC and Sony , nexus devices are cheaper but not that enjoyable ,

I would say opposite of what this guy says. Samsung and HTC throw crappy interfaces over stock android making it slower and only causing you to not get the updated operating system timely on your phone. Vanilla android is best and I'm planning to buy nexus 4 as soon as it's out. One decent reason to stick with one s is that you don't have money to throw around buying the latest and greatest phone.

Is the phone unable to do something that you need it to do? Are a few more megaflipflops of processing power really going to make your life better?
If the answer to either of these questions is yes then buy another phone.

People wants to be trendy. Mostly iPhone users. Do not be like them.
As @Troute said: Is the phone unable to do something that you need it to do?
I find support pretty decent depending on what you're looking for. There's a good variety of different ROMs available to suit your tastes. Even though there's faster phones available now, it really depends on what you need to make your phone work for you. If you don't notice any issues with lag, performance is good, and battery life is good then I think things should be ok?

I spent $285 on this phone I think I got a solid deal. Definitely don't get an iphone anywhere near retail value. If I had to get a phone right now I would buy the Nexus 4.
Well as it stands right now the nexus 4 is gonna be strictly worst than our phone cuz LG made it. Anyone one else confused on that?
I say go for a onex+ or a s3. imma skip out on this round of smartphones though cuz our one s is one of the top phones out. Everytime i pull it out ppl are like OMG what phone is that. pretty much once the wow factor is gone its time for an upgrade lol
I mainly need a really powerful camera to replace compact digital camera for daily use, I don't want to take two devices go out. So, I will stay with One S and not to go with N4 like everyone else here.
I will probably buy a new phone later when HTC or Sony introduces their new camera sensor. HTC is going to roll out 5" 1080 J Butterfly with 8M cam in Dec on Japan, wanna see if the sensor get improved and I might get one.

LG is guilty of terrible software, but with the Nexus 4 that's not an issue. The hardware of the Nexus 4 is patchwork. On one hand you have the quad core S4 pro, on the other you're stuck with only 12gb of accessible space. On one hand you have an amazing screen, on the other the battery life sucks and can't be upgraded. You have to decide what you can tolerate to decide if a Nexus is for you. I love AOSP, but HATE limited storage. I love the resolution, but HATE the battery life. So I won't be getting a Nexus 4.

I don't like the thing that they're delaying new updates too much and plus it's not that well made except the ceramic body ofc

What would you buy?

So with taxes I'm looking to spend about $350 on a phone with no contact. I WAS thinking the nexus 4 but people on craigslist are retarded asking $500+ because people bought out the play store with the intentions of reselling and ripping people off. So other than that I was thinking of getting an s3 or a note 1, possibly a one x.
My questions are, which carrier version, and which one should I get. I want one that I could use on family mobile with better speeds, maybe simple mobile or something. I'm into rooting and roms and overall best specs out there. So which phone should I get in that price range, and which carrier version? Processor and ppi as well as camera is most important to me.

Personally, the Note is a little on the large side for a phone, however, some people like it. Would suggest that you get some extended hands on time with it out before buying. S3 has good feedback except for the build materials (i.e. drop and chip) and is roughly the form factor that I would be comfortable with and there is quite a bit of ROM development for it. A friend uses a Note 1 and swears by it, connects it up as a laptop at home with keyboard, mouse and monitor (his portable office). Haven't had a chance to test out the OneX but what I have read on the forums are that it has good battery life, solid performance and since it is basically stock, updates are quick. Just got WP8 as a xmas gift, from an SGS2. Don't recommend it, until they fix some pretty fundamental missing features but the camera is by far the best I have seen so far.

I really like the note, just hate that the bigger screen lowers the ppi. Plus I kinda feel like it's an s2, but bigger. Someone tell me it's more than just an s2 lol.

I've had nothing but good experiences with Samsung phones. Have a GS2 skyrocket and it's an awesome phone. ROM support is strong, and definitely affordable on your budget.
i would buy the htc one x+. i really like the htc os. a few years ago i bought the htc desire hd and i've never regretted it. so why not switching to another phone by htc
HTC One X looks very cute. But I heard about screen problems. I am most interested in Nexus 4, however it's not available in my country, but I would recommend it. I love that Nexus 4 has stock Android.
HTC one xl owner here....absolutely no screen problems. Gorgeous screen, great ROMs with great devs, great camera and battery life and you will find some at a very nice price. Only downside is storage and no external SD slot.
Funny u mention screen problems as I've heard the nexus 4 has some.
This phone is really good, not cheaply build like the s3 and personally I feel its better (hence why I chose it over the s3)
Oh and BTW our phones are pretty much unbrickable, flashing ROMs is a breeze and rooting can be done with a downloadable script. And they do t suffer from gs3 problems which they seem to be having plenty of.

Well, at the time of release, that was the feeling wasn't it . A 18% (I think off hand) increase in screen with a 25% increase in battery. So yea, it is basically an S2. 0.2GHz more and most everything else is the same.
I think you should go with all new Galaxy Note II has a 5.5-inch HD Super Amoled touchscreen display that supports 1280x720 pixel resolution natively which runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
