Looks staged to me. I have been doing SMT and hand soldering for years and it looks like someone took a iron and some soldier to it. I doubt that it got hot enough to melt soldier on its own even if it did catch fire that kinda heat would have done way more damage to the phone.
We were just talking about this in another thread, and I hate to be repetitive, but if you Google "<insert name of phone/manufacturer for just about any device> bursts into flames", you will get a ton of hits. Happens to iPhones all the time, and it's even happened to a few Skyrocket owners.

Sorry i wasnt looking for help or asking a question so i didnt even think to check if this has a thread yet lol
But ya just scares me a little.
Could you imagine holding that up to your face on a call and having that happed? Blegh
It's completely staged.
There are no internals anywhere near that spot that could have burned the plastic.
And the day right before the US launch?
I'd say it's Apple approved.

My thoughts exactly there is nothing that is going to get as hot as 728 degrees Fahrenheit in that area. The battery may be able to put out that kinda temps, maybe but that is further up in the phone, and other parts of the phone would have been damaged first not just the very bottom of it.

agreed...and a casing like it has would be cracked and melted in more than one place...especially if its like our phones with the cpu in the top
Lol, they'll do everything to ruin the launch of this phone. Sad.
I wonder if they were playing Draw Something. It will cause the phone to stay on and it to run hot. My phone got extremely hot one time doing this. I didn't notice it for a while because I was walking around. I sat down and the phone got pushed up against my leg.. That's when I noticed. Combine that with an over clocked/volted cpu and you have a fire waiting to happen.
I would like to know if his phone has been overclocked first off..

No need to apologize, my post came off wrong. I wasn't calling you out for a duplicate thread, I don't think there was one -- it was an off-topic discussion we were having in another thread. I just didn't want to go straight from that post to this one posting the same thing.
And yeah, that would suck. I'd rather have it happen to my face than have it go off in my pocket and burn my junk though...
Seriously though.. a bad lithium battery could cause that.
We all walk around with bombs in our pockets. That's why the laptop comes out of the bag at airports.

The battery is nowhere near that section of the phone.
Totally staged.
If you look at the iFixit tear down, there is nothing in that area of the phone to get hot and catch on fire.
I have highlighted the area in question from the tear down pics.
It's just PCB board with no components in that area.

Really? Come on. Use your common sense.
Have you considered compressed air? It's commonly the most popular way to get dust off of electronics... I always have a can or two for clearing out the dust in my computers or occasionally a laptop if i take one apart (no reason not to clean at the same time).
Hope that helps.
you should prob. clean your pockets out too while your at it lol

And its not a ton of lint, just a couple little pieces stuck in the grill. I'm going to try some double sided tape.

Wow! I am shocked by how rude everyone is about a simple question.
So much for turning to the community for answers these days.... if you ask something "stupid" or "obvious" you get grilled for it.
It used to be that people either said something helpful or moved along if they had nothing to contribute to the thread. Now everyone has their little online egos and feels like putting someone down makes them look like a hardass.
My pockets are clean and I have also noticed dust specs in the rear speaker (under kick stand). Go ahead... crucify me now!
Agreed. The way these things work is everyone working together to help each other out, anybody from devs to newbies. We all have our strong points, so you can share your knowledge, or just do your self a favor and move on. Let me know what works best for you!

You are 100% right. I don't know what it is about this forum section but the N1 area was nothing like this. There are a few really rude people in this area and imo mods may have to start cracking down. I've questioned my Thunderbolt purchase several times just based on the other people who have bought it...not sure I want to be a member of this group.
Got another One X last weekend. I checked the screen thoroughly in store to make sure it was flawless. I have now however noticed that there is a spec of dust under the screen. It was definitely not there when I checked it in store, spent ages on a solid white background making sure.
So is there anyway I can try and get rid of it. It got there on its own somehow so I must at least be able to move it off the side of the screen one way or another. It's no big deal if I can't get rid of it as its hardly noticeable in every day use.
I have tried gently tapping the screen and knocking it on its side but it hasn't moved so far. I don't want to try to hard encase I damage the phone. Don't want to try and take the phone apart and attempt to separate the touch component from the LCD and try either as the phone is so new.
Att will exchange for dust under the screen. But. When the phones been on and in use allowing the screen to get warm about 30 minutes lightly tap in the opposite direction. Should move the dust out.
Work on my iPhone back in the day. :/

Thanks for the reply's. I'm in Australia so now ATnT for me. This is my 9th. Very happy with this one. Won't be returning it for this unless more gets under there. I must be able to move it. I'll try leaving it on max brightness as you suggested and go from there.
It must be possible to separate the digitizer from the LCD because you can buy a replacement -

Um not to be a complete **** but after working retail for 6 years as a store manager for At&t and several years in I.T / EE / and project management. My first had dead pixels and a yellow spot. Second had creaking and a rattle. 3rd dent in the lcd panel under the digitizer. The next 5 I unboxed in store. Some had dead pixels and the others had bad dust under the screen.
I didn't tell them were the dust or pixels were, just that there was something wrong with the screen, they pointed them out. The dust under this one is nothing like the ones I unboxed in store a while back, some specs were almost as big as the dot on the letter i which is why I'm going to stick with this one.
I don't think it's to much to ask to get one without dust under the screen seeing as how there are many out there with defect free phones. I feel like I am entitled to the same experience as them, paid the same hard earned money as them after all.. I suspect though that many probably have dust etc but have either not noticed or choose to live with it.
Your right about the phone being extraordinary, which is why I haven't stuck with a refund. Really no going back after you have had a phone like this.
Edit: check this forum out. I'm not the only one with issues and multiple returns. It's a shame so many are having repeat issues.

This guy worked in retail & engineering and the bases of his argument is the fact he thinks dust and imperfections are ludicris for someone to complain about! Now if he worked at the HTC manufacturing plant where they made these phones and can honestly produce manufacturing data depicting margins of error of defect in the manufacture of these devices in several respective categories then we can break the odds down mathematically and prove whether this poster is full of $hit, delusional etc!
Until then I'll keep lolling @ the response It was good
He's got a point... Say the odds of you getting a messed up screen is 1 in 1000... Multiply .001 by itself 9 times. Those are the odds of you actually getting 9 broken phones in a row.
Edit... It's 1x10^-27.... So yeah, you'd win the lottery a couple of times.

It seems as though I have a growing number of dead pixels localized to the bottom/middle center of the screen. At first, there was randomly 10 or so that went out today for whatever reason, in a straight line. Now there is at least 5 more, and it seems to be starting to branch out. This has originally appeared and grew in the past 24 hours.
I'm not sure how this happened suddenly, and why it happened so fast. Also, not really sure why it's growing, as I'm not doing anything different than before the dead pixels.
Is there anything I can do? I am past warranty. I can provide pictures if needed, but I am positive that they are dead pixels.

Maybe you're doing something that kills the pixels.
For example, are you undergoing a dry or wet?

Like, as in seasons? No, it's pretty temperate and average here, with normal precipitation, so I doubt it's humidity. Also, I have a otter box around it, and a screen protector, so even if something were to be spilled (I'm very safe with my phone, though), it wouldn't get in.
A few more pixels died today, so now it looks like a 2x10 pixel block with a small branch or two.

I do apologize for all of my stupid questions. This is my first Android phone, and I am not used to XDA's structure compared to other message boards I have been a contributor of. So I apologize that I am not carrying my own weight yet, but I hope to get more used to this place and Android development so I can help others.
This is going to sound more stupid, but the dead pixels disappeared. I consulted other people who confirmed that they were dead pixels, but I guess the issue resolved itself? A magnifying glass could have confirmed the dead pixels, but I'm not sure why this was just a temporary issue. Just adding this for reference, in case somebody else gets scared, to wait a week or two, and the issue might resolve itself.
Thanks for the help.
If you're referring to the mobile app signature in the bold text under my comment, that was in no way intended to be taken personally or seriously, but more for a joke geared for someone else (a moderator) who's not even in these forums. So, don't sweat the small stuff around here, and please don't feel I was trying to be insulting. My apologies to you if you found it as such.
I'm glad you seem to have things worked out, and hopefully this issue with the pixels won't happen again. I can imagine the frustration, so it's a good thing that this just cleared up all on its own - literally- and there wasn't a need to worry over having to replace hardware elements...

Well in old cartoons there was usually a siren sound of some kind briefly... soooo if they can incoporate an additional camera to scan your surroundings, somehow see if it matches an hour glass figure, and tell it's a woman, they could have the phone make a siren noise haha.
I think the eye scrolling thing is getting a little too gimmicky for my taste.
It is a new feature. Its in the 4.2.1 build which is leaked and not official. Plus that's the build that the gs4 is suppose to come with. So technically it is a new feature.

Sticky thread...look.
So my LG V10 slipped out of my lap and fell two feet to my carpeted floor and you can see the cracks. So much for their 26 drops on to concrete with no damage. I tried to let them know that this happened so they could look into the fact that this phone cracked so easily but they don't seem to care. I mean, if you tested a phone to drop 4 feet onto concrete 26 times with no damage and someone drops one 2 feet onto carpet and the screen cracks, you should be worried.
So, no help from LG. I couldn't even get to a supervisor and I tried off and on for 12 hours today. I was put on hold for 20 - 40 minutes with no supervisor ever getting to me. They have horrible customer service - not because they won't replace it but because I couldn't even get ahold of a supervisor within 12 hours.

1. This WAS a 2 ft drop on to berber carpet with no padding under it. Believe what you want because I was shocked when it happened. When it fell, I looked at my wife and sarcastically said, "My phone fell....I'm sooooo worried," and then I picked it up and saw this. This is why I think there is something wrong with the phone.
2. LG did not drop my phone but they do have THIS on their website: 1. The LG V10 passed a military standard test for shock (MIL-STD-810G Method 516.6, Procedure IV – "Transit Drop"") that consists of 4-foot drops onto 2" of plywood over concrete. The test includes impacts on every face, edge and corner of the device. Further, the device passed an enhanced version of the Transit Drop test consisting of 26 drops from 4 feet onto a concrete surface. ----------SO, Why would a 2 ft drop onto carpet crack the screen? Makes no sense. If I ran LG, I would be concerned about build quality at this point.

1. If you buy a phone that it touted as being able to "take it" when it comes to "drops" then it falls 2 feet to carpet, there is obviously a defect in the phone. But that's not even the point of this post. I just wanted to talk to someone at LG to let them know because if it was me, I would be concerned that this phone should be more durable.
2. The other post said the edge of the sofa because that's what I remembered but when I spoke with my wife this morning, she said, "No, it was on your lap." I wasn't really focused on the exact position of the phone last night but I knew it was in that general vicinity. Pardon my A.D.D.
So can we get back to the focus of this post? It's not to say "LG is to blame" and it's not to call me a liar because I know what happened. I just want people to think twice about cases and protection on the V10 because it's not as durable as they advertise. That's all.

I'm sorry for your misfortune. but I think you got a defective device or it was a very fluke freak accident, because I'm pretty sure the rest of us could drop phone on carpet from two feet 10 times each and have no crack. I've dropped my v10 on train floor from 4 feet. I've dropped g3 from 5 feet onto concrete, both phones look the same.
I'm not defending LG, I'm sure it's entirely possible to crack v10 if any of us were to, say, drop it on a curb while we're running or something. but two feet on carpet? has to be a fluke.
Chop it up to **** luck. It's life. It happens
Thank you for posting this. I'm sure we're all hoping this is some kind of fluke.
It's definitely beyond disturbing to think that a drop like that could be so devastating especially for those of us who don't have a case yet!
I hope you can get something figured out for a replacement.
So terrible!

I think it's bad luck. My kid grabbed mine from the arm of the couch and then tossed it to me in the kitchen on a tile floor. I was afraid to flip the phone over but it's fine. Not a mark on it or my cheap screen protector. You could probably drop your phone like you did 100 times without reproducing that shatter.
