LOL. I did this for my Note boot up sound.. and it actually worked out quite OK, so I thought I'd share it here.
Basically I remixed some computer simulations of the Star Trek's computer voice [done byMajel Barrett-Roddenberry] into a neat little package as follows:
"Calibration is locked and normal [beeps]...Diagnostic complete. Sensors are functioning normally. Stand by..."
Using it with the "Reactor" boot animation found here and it really makes rebooting the Note a rather special experience.

Just unzip and copy the poweron.ogg to /system/etc/poweron.ogg [backup ur original in case]
Cheers
It is interesting
I will have to listen to it without headsets to see if I want to keep it.
Is this easy to made or do you need to meet some specific parameters?
Thanks mate
when i try to move it to the folder it says " cant be moved " and if i copy it into the etc folder there is no difference and i have the standard sound
Ive tried it around 5 times now and i keep getting copy failed
Did you change the write protection for the folder? I do it with Root Explorer before adding the file.
Thanks cybermessiah,
It's really cool!

It was my mistake. I was trying to use ESfile explorer and while I could browse etc I couldnt copy with it.
I used ROM toolbox and bingo.
Now my phone sounds proper geeky...all I need now is a nice Star Trek boot animation and bingo I am in business.

i am working on trying to figure out how to make my phone lock and unlock like the mgs codec. i have got the files on the phone and it works but is way to loud. i have attached the files i used if someone with more audio editing experince wants to take a crack at it.
the files have to be in .ogg format and be labeled Lock.ogg and Unlock.ogg. i used advanced wma workshop to convert the files from mp3.
to put them on your phone if anyone wants this
1 reboot into recovery
2 mount /system
3 open cmd and nav to your sdk/tools folder
4 pull system/media/audio/ui (this will backup the files before you replace them)
5 copy the backed up ogg files from your sdk/tools folder to another safe location and put the modified ogg files into the sdk/tools folder
6 push Lock.ogg system/media/audio/ui
7 push Unlock.ogg system/media/audio/ui
8 unmount /system and reboot
also if anyone does do this could someone upload the backed up files for me i didn't think about doin the pull till i wrote this up and i don't feel like doing a nandroid restore to get them back.
edit my buddy confirmed that i had these backwards i guess that is what i get for not listening to the files first. i reuploaded with correct file names
what if you just took the audio files and decreased the volume of the actual file?

I was wondering if you could walk me thru the steps in more detail... I'm not sure how to proceed past step 3! not sure if its cuz i have a mac... sorry this is my first post
Nice will try this
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
using audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
i used the amplify effect and dropped both ogg files down some
seems to be where i want the sound at, but you can use audacity (which is free btw) to drop it more if you want
http://www.mediafire.com/?etknj3uiv55ql99
fwiw you can adb push these while the phone is running if you adb remount before it (need s-off)
so i tried this through the mount/system through clockmod and was able to push this files but it will not switch to the files i pushed, just uses the system defaults any suggestions? im thinking of just overwritting the rom zip with the new zip sounds and reflashing sounds good?

right on ill give that a try
hey I used rootexplorer as well but i have a question because it does appear to be working. so did you MOVE or COPY all the files (mp3 + ogg) into the UI folder? It does not show up.

i firsted removed the defaults and moved the new files works like a charm but for some strange reason the two sounds merge when i lock phone and the unlock works great not sure whats up may restore originals and try again but first attempt worked fine with the deleting and moveing, i was adding a boot animation and before i knew it both play? no biggie really they overlap each other so its not some drawn out tone

however, lately, there are many ROMs and i flash new ROMs quite frequently and im not always near my PC.
i dont know how to make flashable update.zip files to flash in recovery.
can someone please make one so that it wil copy the attached folder to /system/media?
thanks nd advance

Why not just put them on your sdcard in media folder? I think all roms read from there too as long as the paths are the same (minus the system folder)
Yeah, make the below folders on the sdcard either on the root, or within a folder called media:
notifications
ringtones
alarms
The phone will then present the contents of these when you are selecting one (eg/ the notifications contents will be visable when choosing a message alert).
i am familiar with the media folder on the root of the SD card, however, there are 2 reasons why i dont use it:
1. sometimes, the response is slow, so when someone calls, for a second or 2, the phone lights up with the contact calling but does not ring immediatly.
2. some files get duplicated.
thanks for your quick responses!

Strange, never noticed this happen to me. I've had it play a default ringtone while my sdcard was mounted, but never noticed any kind of delay otherwise.

Good point. I have a similar audio collection on my sdcard but I manually removed the ones that appear in CyaogenMod so they wouldn't duplicate but that could be a pain if switching between roms.
Anyway, here is the update.zip you requested

I use root explorer to copy and paste it into system/media
I take it you are doing it the adb way. Haven't used that in forever.
I would recommend trying root explorer (dont know if 15min trail is already in effect)
If you use it dont forget to mount R/W prior to pasting to allow you to overwrite
Also im using CM 6.1 but it should work with most roms

You can download it from the market its not free but worth the money. Put the bootanimation.zip file on your sd then with root explorer simply copy paste it to system/media make sure mount r/w is on at the top right.
This isn't intended to be flashed via recovery

To extend it you would need either more frames or to lower the frames per sec in the txt which would make it slower. Open the txt and you can lower the framerate from there. I think its set to 20 or 15 currently
I made these for my HTC Desire HD but they might work on the Nexus One as Well
I made these 2 boot animations based on the Co-op loading screens on Portal 2. Yes the files are large but I think they look pretty good. You can use root explorer to replace your existing one or do it via ADB but don’t ask how never have done it via ADB.
You are welcome to mod them as you see fit but.

Sorry, guess i should have mentioned how to install.
Just copy the above boot file to the following location: NEEDS ROOT
/system/media
If you have a bootanimation.zip file there I would recommend renaming it to something else, then pasting the above file to that folder, reboot and watch the Apple logo get the golden showers
Thanks!!!
I assume this is HDPI only right? I know a friend that has an Android phone, I don't know if he rooted it, but if he did, I'll recommend him this.

If your using a file manager app like astro file manager of root explorer. Open that and scroll down past the SDcard folder and below that you should see the folder "System". Select that then scroll down to Media. Select that and paste the boot animation to that folder.

I have never personally tried to make a boot animation myself. You can do a google search "how to create android bootanimation" that should give you some sites that can give you insight on how to create your own bootnaimation file. The 3D android urinating a friend sent me that one and I dont know if he made or found it.

If you are using Root Explorer did you select the "Mounted as r/w, r/o"?
You might have to select the grey box up top that says mount r/w and press it until it says Mount R/O, then it will let you paste. Try that and see if that helps.

If your phone is rooted "Root explorer" is the best file manager app I have ever used. It has a text editor/viewer(for xmls and build.prop) and it organizes files you zip or unzip nicely into folders. It isnt free though. Oh and most importantly it allows you to change permissions when dealing with system apps/files like the bootanimation.zip in system/media.
Edit** thought it over & I dont remember if you have to change permissions for bootanimation, but I did.
Ios suckkss.

Ported iPad's resrult to Android and tested on my Galaxy Note works fine.
Here is the procedure to update to the game:
1. you need to be ROOTed.
2. Download the attached file: Profile0.zip
3. Make a temp folder in your SD Card in your GN, e.g. TEMP
4. Extract all files from the ZIP file to this folder TEMP (by your own means, e.g. WiFi Explorer, or direct USB link from PC to phone)
5. all needed files are on the phone now
6. use Root Explorer copy all files in TEMP to /data/data/com.rovio.amazingalexHD/files/Profile0 overwrites files when asked.
7. Changes all files permissions to rw-rw-rw-
8. then you are done with full version played 3 stars, haha.
Good Luck.
