Hi, I was just wondering if the tf300 is capable of using wireless N on the 5ghz frequency, or if like the Prime, it can only use 2.4ghz? Can anyone confirm that it does or doesn't work?
Thanks
Under advanced Wifi settings for the TF300 you have "Auto, 5Ghz only and 2.4 Ghz only"
judging by this I'd say it works on 5Ghz, so you're in luck ;D

Oh man that's very good to hear. I assume you are on a custom ROM and am wondering if it is just an option on it, because the Asus website specs for the TF300 says "WLAN 802.11 b/g/[email protected]". Did you see this same option on the stock ROM?
Can anyone on the forum who is still on the stock ROM confirm this option under wifi advanced settings?
Fingers crossed
I can't find that option I'm on stock rom, but I'm also only connected to a 2.4 ghz network. I do see advanced wifi but its greyed out.
Im on stock ROM, .29US rooted....I have looked under advanced WiFi and see no option to select 5Ghz. Damn, I wanted it too

I know that generally Android does not like connect to ad-hoc wifi but was hoping against hope that someone with an Eee Pad can check if that is still the case?
I'm definitely getting one once i can get my molesty hands on some stock somewhere, but when out and about, my trusty Treo Pro only creates an ad-hoc wifi network via wmwifirouter (works excellent with other portable wifi devices i have).
well, I'm using Barnacle with a rooted Atrix 4G and the transformer can't connect to the ad hoc network.
I can't connect my Transformer to my HTC Hero running an ad-hoc WiFi hotspot. However, it works fine over bluetooth....

Ah ha, at least bluetooth tethering works. At least that's an option i have. Thanks for checking guys.
Argh! Does this mean I can't use the 'Wifi Hotspot' app built into my phone (DHD) to share its 3G connection with my Transformer whilst I'm out and about?
Because I was kind of relying on that.
I may have to cancel my pre-order :-(

It's an Android issue in general, nothing specific to the Transformer specifically. The latest wifi tether for root users i think now does Infrastructure mode and also bluetooth tethers as well.

You can tether it through Bluetooth, which is better IMO. Every time I use Wifi Hotspot on my N1, I start having crashes and memory issues. I had rather use BT for this.

I don't know about that particular phone, but if the hotspot is infrastructure mode (like what is built into Froyo), the TF will be able to connect to it and use it. If it is Ad Hoc, then there will be trouble, Android in general does not support connecting to Ad Hoc (could have changed in Honeycomb now, I but I don't think so). I've used my TF with the Infrastructure hotspot on my Optimus phone, for example, it works fine. Figure out what kind of hotspot your phone does.

On Windows Mobile, use wmwifirouter and choose the bluetooth tethering option. See if that works.
Someone a few posts up mentioned that he's tethering his TF via bluetooth to his Android phone.
It definetely depends on the phone. wireless tether to my buddy's HTC Evo worked yet didnt with my HTC Hero. Luckily, the bluetooth does work exceptionally well so theres no worries!

I installed the trial of Wmwifirouter, but the bluetooth tether option is grayed out. Maybe a limitation of the trial?
I just can't believe that there isn't a better solution for this. Surely there is a utility or a workaround for those of us in tethering hell!!! GahhhH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Would this be feasible on a honeycomb device?

has anyone tried to tether with the EVO?
I saw a patch for another tablet somewhere to enable ad-hoc wifi. it was a zip for cwm, but most definitely it was built for earlier android version. i'll look for it nonetheless and report back.

Hi there,
i just got my TF300T and i'm quite happy with it (coming from LG Optimus Pad it's no wonder ).
But i have one question/issue where i can't find an answer for:
I have a Netgear Router which is capable of using 2,4Ghz and 5Ghz Wifi simultaniously. Now i can connect my Transformer with the 2,4Ghz without any issues and everything works fine. But if i have a look into the Wifi list on my Transformer i can see the 5Ghz connection but it alway states that it's out of reach.
Is the Transformer Pad capable of using 5Ghz connections or not? If yes, what is wrong with my pad?
Thanks for any replies

1080p movie streaming locally for one. I'm kinda pissed there's not 5ghz support for that alone.
actually a very very very small percentage of tablets have that support. The main accepted one is the 2.4Ghz band.

Well, for fast transferring of files, HDTV streaming, etc.
I watch 1080p with no problem... I just copy it to my 32gig sd card or use wifi file explorer pro and copy it to the internal storage... I get around 4.5 megabytes a sec transfer...

I use my cell phone's 3G connection in tether mode - as a modem for my TF700T.
That's what I thought to do but unfortunatly my phone doesn't support 3G, only edge. So I startded searching for other ways.
You could always get a MiFi device. In case you don't know its a very small modem which takes a 3G SIM and then acts like a wifi hostspot. You can connect up to 5 devices to the 3G network with it. So if your phone has wifi you can connect that as well as your tablet and laptop etc.

Pretty good mate. I think it's rated for 6 to 7 hours of continuous use. It's not run down on me during a day of use. It shows you the usage on the screen so I can track how much I am using a month as well.
I have a fiber optic internet connection at home and on my desktop PC I get download speeds of 80mbps+ however when I do a speed test on my note 10.1 I am lucky to get a downspeed on 3mbps. Does anyone have any ideas why this is and how to improve it?
I am in the UK and have the N8010 model.
Many thanks.
Its likely something with your router. Check the signal strength and channel.maybe a firmware upgrade on the router .are you connection to a/b/g/n all of the above will effect speeds and reliability.
Also is your PC hard wired.? If so you know it will be much faster there is far less overhead data tagging along.I do not think its the device
Good luck

Thanks for the response. My router in running on Wireless N. Yes my PC is hard wired however im still getting at least a 50mbps downspeed on my Windows laptop via the wireless. I just figure it's something to do with the network card inside the Note?
I do have some problems connecting to certain networks with my tablet as well. Maybe there's some problem with wifi drivers in the galaxy note I'm guessing. Hopefully it'll be fixed in JB.

One thing you can try is changing the encryption and/or privacy standard (WEP and so on) since some of them isn't supported by "dumb" devices and I suspect some of them are supported but are so advanced it affects the performance.

Go to settings.
Select wifi
Long press on your connection.
Press modify connection
Now select ip settings and change to static
Now change your IP to an address outside of dhcp range and your done.
If dhcp is 192.168.1.2 through 192.168.1.100 set your tab to 192.168.1.101
You can also change your routers dhcp range to 192.168.1.2 through 192.168.1.15 and set your tab to ..16
Your numbers may be different, but same method.
Hey all,
i am having some issues with my 5Ghz wifi and my skyrocket. First I will list all the information I have.
Skyrocket i727.
Roms I have tried to connect with - Embryo 7 Cymbaline and stock kernel ; Beanstalk 1.30 v.1. with mortez and marla. No luck.
Router - Linksys WRT320N - not a dual band. either 2.4ghz or 5ghz.
Open dd-wrt firmware on the router.
Wireless settings - N only (5Ghz) - 40mhz wide channel - lower - channel 52 + 54.
Security - WPA2 personal with AES encryption.
i have tired many things to get this wifi to connect on my skyrocket. I have tried switching to wirelss A and N. No luck. I have tried using on 20 Mhz wide channel. No luck. I have also tried taking Security off completely with Wireless N 5Ghz and no luck there either. Only way I can get it to connect is using 2.4 ghz. I know the skyrocket supports 5Ghz because there is an option for 5Ghz only within advanced wireless settings.
Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Have you tried it with stock? Also try scanning the channels with WiFi analyzer. They have an app that might help you connect.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
No I haven't tried it with stock. I do have WiFi analyzer installed and everything seems to work fine on the router end. I'm getting fantastic speeds on my laptop and my friends s4 connect instantly and gets great speeds as well. So I know its not the router settings. I have considered stock Though.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
But when you use Wi-Fi analyzer on the skyrocket, does the phone "see" the router. Have you tried restarting the router with nothing connected to it, and connecting the skyrocket first?
Edit: Try using different channels as well. Not sure exactly what channels the skyrocket can see in 5 GHz mode.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Yeah it sees the channel on WiFi analyzer. I've tried channels 40,42 ,149 and many others. It seems to have a problem authenticating the WPA2 key. But, going by that logic, leaving the network open would solve the problem. But it doesn't. Still can't connect on 5ghz when there is no security. So, I'm thinking Its a custom kernel problem or the hardware is failing. Not sure which.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Yeah I would say try another router someone else you know has that has 5ghz and using stock router firmware. Are you on the latest dd wrt?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Yeah the latest as of like march 2013 I believe.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
I am using a linksys e4200 dd-wrt build 22000
Here are some of the settings I use:
Basic settings:
wireless channel : 153 - 5.7654 GHz
Channel Width: 20MHz
Wireless Security:
Security Mode: WPA2 Personal
WPA Algorithms: AES
Advanced Wireless Settings: shown if different than default
CTS Protection Mode: Disable
Preamble: short
TX Power: 66 (lower than default)
Afterburner: enabled
You might try playing with the TX power setting since the default (for my router) is the same as the 2.4 GHz default and is to high for the 5 GHz band.
Well. I tried those settings but still a no go. I think its a problem with the 5ghz on my phone. Maybe I need to go back to stock JB. Not likely though. I resolved the issue by using two routers anyway. One for 2.4 and one for 5. Works perfect so far. Thanks for everyone's help and Input.
