[Q] Any way to get a 'favorites' tab on the phone app? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I would love to have a favorites button on my phone app. Right now it has 4 tabs: phone, contacts, call history, and groups. There is an option to customize or rearrange them, but no way to have favorites right there even though you can make a favorites group.
Is there any way to do this? Would make calling people way faster, and don't want to use desktop space for speed dials.

Yes! Someone needs to port over the stock ICS contacts!

Agreed.

Until this happens you can always put them into a folder. Yes it takes up 1 space but it seems to the only solution I can see for the immediate future.

View shared Google calendars?

Anyone figure out how to do this? It's been really simple to view them on previous versions of Sense or any aosp roms, but it seems they overlooked the option on Sense 3.0 :-(
On another note, I'm probably the only person that uses this :-! (My gf and I both put our work schedules into Google Calendar and share the calendars with each other so we can easily glance at our schedules.. It's pretty useful)..
Is not in the usual menu. Tap the bar at the top of the calendar, it is a dropdown box to choose which calendars are displayed. Is that what you were looking for?

Im using this also and no problems. The shared calendar appeared after-hours first sync

Yea, that was where I first looked. They're not in there.

Custom shortcut

Any way to create a custom shortcut to manually sync gmail using adw? I've found that if I turn off background data it triples my battery life but I still want to be able to easily sync gmail with one click.
I looked through the gmail activities but didn't see anything. I couldn't even find a shortcut to get straight to accounts and sync.

Maybe try Any Cut from the market. Not sure if it can do THAT in particular but it can make shortcuts for a lot of cool stuff. And its free! Worth a shot.

try a different rom. I'm on 4G all day and easily make it through the day on a senseless GB rom. That way there is no need to turn off data. U do have the fastest phone in the market right now, u know?

Notification pop up iOS 5 style?

IS there any app or a mod that will allow me to get a none intrusive pop up when I get a message or something? Kinda like how it in iOS 5?
I have having to stop my game, and go into the menu only to see I have a message from someone I wouldn't of bothered checking in the first place?
Usually I am playing a game, and my phone vibrates but without a way of knowing if its worth my time checking or not, I have to press the menu key, and then reload the game. In the case of Order & Chaos, having to resign into the account is a pain.

Any alternative for us Sense users? I love Sense, so I don't see myself switching to AOSP ROMs. Just my personal preference.

Sms popup in the market is very simple and very clean. Just pops your sms haha

GoSMS also has good popup-system it even allows you to reply to the message from the popup.

You might wanna check out Popup Notifier Lite and Popup Notifier Pro in market. Let's you decide what popup notifications you get (sms, email, gmail, calendar, missed calls) works extremely well. Even the Lite version does the job nicely
I use handcent for that exact reason... You can even allow the popup to overlay your lockscreen. This allows quick responses without unlocking the phone.
Popup 7.

Isn't the iOS 5 notification style the way Android has been doing it for years?
if I'm playing a game, I drop down the notification bar and see a portion of the message and from who it was... if I'm not bothered, I just flip the notification bar back up and continue gaming.. I never leave the app that I'm in.. in case of full screen games putting them no pause or pressing the menu key will show the notification bar if they're coded correctly.
the last thing I want is a popup appearing in the middle of the screen when I'm gaming (or whatever I'm doing on the phone actually), just my 2 cts.

Extractly.
Well I play Order and Chaos, and for some reason whenever I press the menu key, check the message app, upon loading O&C back, it freezes, and I have to manually remove the task,
This is true, but when we get a notification, it doesn't have a pop up like iOS 5. In the sense that, playing O&C it just plays the ringtone, and sometimes not even that. I have to go check the notification light.
I don't play, so the pop up doesn't bother me at all

SMS/MMS Preference?

I don't really want to start a war of the texting world. But what are your preferences for texting apps and why?
Hand cent, GO, etc.
Thanks all. Just want friendly discussion.

AOKP has a stock ICS SMS app that has Emoji. I love it.

Although it has a large footprint like Handcent, GoSMS is terrific for a lot of reasons. First, it has two plugin downloads for emoticons/Emojis. It comes with standard happy/sad/confused faces, but one plugin adds elaborate faces, symbols and icons (probably close to 300) and are much more detailed. The second plugin adds something like large vector art.
And some may be asking "how can my recipient get these things in their messages if they are not supported--or if one of these items turns the message into an MMS?
Well that's the most nifty thing about it. It had a service that is linked to the app which routes it around their servers and straight to your recipient as a data-based MMS. In other words, even if you cannot typically send MMS because your APN is wrong or whatever, this app makes sure your texts get through...essentially it's an SMS-over-IP service. Plus, your recipient does not need to have it installed.
Lastly GoSMS can be infinitely skinned. I am not sure what Handcent can do, but I use images for the background of my conversations list and my actual conversion (which can be customized for each recipient). It also scans all other apps for any fonts it can use, and offers them to be used as part of the UI..

I prefer GoSMS. I don't like the stock sms client and originally used Handcent until it started force closing all the time. If this had not start happening, I would probably still use handcent. GoSMS is highly customizable which I like.
I'm using the inverted AOSP Stuff out of this forum from he_stheone64. Because it's look very smart and clean for me and it's much easier to handle than this htc sense stuff..
thats my opinion why I had chosen them.

Looked all over for a home screen apps sorter

Ok guys I've looked everywhere but found nothing. I am looking for an app that simply sorts home screens apps in some order. I don't want one that makes folders. I want to just be able to use the app to sort every now and then and just close it afterwards. Thanks
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
I am confused I guess. I don't understand exactly what you are looking for. You want an app to organize your apps on your home screen? Can't you just just organize them how you want them on your home screen? Maybe I don't understand exactly what you are looking for.

Action Launcher gives an alphabetical list similar to windows phone.
If I understand correctly, you want an equivelant to the windows shortcut for "sort by name/type/date modified" for your homescreen, or for your appdrawer.
I echo the thoughts of others in asking why. It's not like your homescreen can accumulate dozens of apps the same way a desktop can pick up dozens of shortcuts, or that they are difficult to get rid of or sort yourself. Folders work fine... also, there are widgets such as Glovebox and CircleLauncher which will allow you to create live groups of self-hiding icons.
but Android is an open OS, so the simple answer is, if there's something you want that doesn't exist, just build it yourself. this, however, seems to be something that would be at the launcher level, not the level of a widget or app.
Exactly. But for people like me who hate using app drawer I think there should be some kind of stock setting
