Rogers/AT&T differences & WiFi passwords storage - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Having been forced, by my blatant stupidity swimming with the phone in my shorts, to buy a second brand new LTE HOX I bought a Rogers one and was able to compare it directly with the unlocked AT&T I had bought a week previously.
Rogers has both an FM Radio and tethering enabled out of the box. But you will all know that.
Here's the thing though. I got a new SIM card as well. So, with new phone and SIM I begin to set up my WiFi access points again. The phone finds my company one AND knows the password already. So WiFi passwords are uploaded to Rogers' cloud I guess. Prob old news to you experts out there but a bit of a shock to me.

I have to enter my WiFi pass everytime. I sign in to google and I get my contacts, calendar ext... But no WiFi, is this a setting that needs to be ticked? I run static ip's so not having to do all that would be stellar

Can't use direct carrier billing?

Hey guys,
I used to be able to bill my att account directly when I bought apps on my atrix, but ever since upgrading to the One X, I'm unable to do so anymore.
Calling tech support got me nowhere, they had no idea how to fix it.
Is anyone else having this issue? How'd you fix it?
Thanks!

Direct Carrier Billing
I was wondering if anyone who was previously unable to purchase apps with direct carrier billing are now able to and if they can share what they did. I have an AT&T HTC One X and I also don't see the ability to purchase apps with direct carrier billing. I have read in a few different forums that users with AT&T/Rogers version of the HTC One X are having similar problems but users of the international edition might not have the same problem.
I have carrier unlocked my phone and would really like to use the remaining $60 in my T-Mobile prepaid account to purchase apps instead of it going to waste, and direct carrier billing seems to be my only option. Thanks ahead of time.
---------- Post added at 10:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:47 PM ----------
By going into App management and force-stopping Google Play and then uninstalling the updates, I was able to access the AT&T bill to carrier option when purchasing an app. I am still trying to get this to work with T-Mobile but I might need to switch plans or buy a day's access to mobile data for it to work.
Does anyone have any experience purchasing apps with carrier billing using a T-Mobile prepaid account?
Just tried that, carrier billing still doesn't show up for me, unfortunately.

When I called them, they said it was a device-specific feature and it wasn't supported on the HOX. Maybe they have a random answer generator!

This is utter horse ****.
My first One X was able to do direct billing (and I've confirmed this with a purchase of Titanium Backup Pro in my Google Wallet, which states: May 10
Titanium Track charged your AT&T Mobility USA *number deleted* for $6.58. "GOOGLE *Titanium Track" will appear on your billing statement.") Then my dog decided to knock my phone out of my hand, so I got a replacement.
My new One X will NOT let me bill att. This is some shifty, sideway, backwards, secret-handshaking BS.
I'm on 1.85 with GP version 3.7.13... I'm betting it has something to do with the 1.85 update.

Anyone else receive this from att?

They monitor your data usage, and if it spikes they go back and check to see if the destination ip of the packets is set to anything other than your phone.
You should have received at least one warning though.
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
You should give them a call but they detect it with the number of bumps It takes to connect the data I believe..... But you should of recieved a warning
I thought Canada had it bad when it came to plans but this is ridiculous. They actually force you to go on a tethering plan? $50 for 5GB?
Jeez... That's pricey.
I'm so glad Canadian carriers don't have restrictions on tethering other than you need at least 1GB of data.

According to them they say my number was detected as tethering. I don't believe this since I haven't done this in three months. They told my dad that were going to give me a warning...next time I receive this message I'm going down to att and make them prove to me that I'm tethering since all I do on my phones is surf the net, download apps, be on Xda, and on eBay.

You wouldn't win if you go down the store....its quite simple to tell if someone's tethering just measure the number of bumps it took to carry the data.... Even if it was three months ago they recorded it and maybe youve been using a lot of data lately...don't use tethering now since you're on their radar

Tru.dat. And by "bumps", kittens means "hops". They will scold you for it. Which is bs. A "hop" is one device transferred to another. Aka AT&T to your phone is 1 hop.. AT&T to your phone to your PC is 2. They can see this.

So does anyone here still use tethering?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I only tether when I absolutely need too...they USUALLY will look at people who use huge amounts of data on their unlimited plans and from their they determine if they're tethering or not. .but if you have a huge data peak they will check you out so I try not to tether really except when its necessary
I agree. I'm on a 3gb a month plan and that barely gets me by the month. Time to hit the lotto and crest my own carrier
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
What's the point with not be able to tether but there are apps that allow you to do so? Seems like my freedom has been taken away from me.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
More money for them...data is data they could easily allow you to tether on that 3gb plan it wouldn't any more of a hassle for them at all actually they wouldn't have to do anything...data is just data! One day you'll learn its all about money

I've tethered, but very seldom. Most usually if traveling, and in a place that either doesn't have WiFi for my laptop or tablet, or the hotel WiFi is too slow. Haven't had any warning or message from AT&T. Pretty sure there are a decent amount of people tethering still.
There was another thread a couple months ago, where the OP got the warning message, but swore up and down that he didn't tether at all. He asked AT&T to prove it, but don't know if they ever gave him any proof.
The method by which data use is monitored by AT&T seems far from consistent, and also seems room for error. Which looks like might be the case in your instance.
im on my phone all day every day and i never break my cap of 3 gigs some times i barely break 1.5 gigs
i do tether when i need it but its very rare for me todo so
I was busted for tethering but they sent me a letter in the mail warning me that they would change my unlimited plan to a tethering plan if I was caught again. So no more tethering for me

[Q] HTC One X can't find network on T-Mobile

Okay so I bought a AT&T htc one x. I rooted the phone. Unlocked the boot loader. Now on rebel rom. I put my tmobile SIM card in the phone and it gives me no reception. At all. And says no service. I went to the settings and mobile data, than did network operators. Did select automatically. And says "unable to connect to network at this time, please try again." So than I did search networks. All it pulls up is AT&T and US. So I got curious and tried us and it had no positive return. Now I need help as I seriously just got this phone yesterday and it sucks its just sitting here now. And no I have no phone. Any help would be appreciated.
did you SIM unlock it?
I SIM unlocked mine, and got no reception, but I didn't have a chance to change APNs and such.

Yeah I bought the sim unlock code prior to rooting with success on stock sense but still never had reception.
Update: I disassembled the phone to check the cables to see if any were loose or damaged and to find out that ALL antenna cables are in tact in good shape, connected perfectly and everything, so I know that this is a issue within the software of the phone. I did use an unlock code on the stock os and when I didn't get reception than is when I rooted the phone with still no change. Any help is appreciated thank you!
You still haven't mentioned if you changed your APN settings.
Same thing happened with me last night, but on an iPhone. Just won't get service no matter what SIM I put in.

What this person said....you have to change apn settings, also did you trim your tmoblie SIM card down to make it fit? Technically if apn if changed and you have a working tmobile SIM it shouldn't be possible to pick up att. Also did you try using it it case icons are saying att but signal is tmobile. You should be able to check what band you are on to verify.....good luck on your quest

ATT sends HTC One XL without LTE Sim Card

Wife just got an HTC ONE XL.... came with a sim card.
Had a hard time getting it activated... but eventually ....
After playing with it for a couple hours i found that it would not send SMS images.
Finally did a chat with ATT and was informed that the account had been changed to a Pay Data plan and that the Sim card listed was not a LTE sim card.
Hard to fathom that 2 people before never made that connection and that they actually sent an LTE phone without the proper SIM card.
Said it will take 3 days to get the LTE card when the phone was sent overnight.

AT&T never informed me that they had no 4g in our area. Needless to say I found out the same way you did. They're really "good" for that.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Turns out that everything was wrong...
1) it is an HTC One VX not HTC One LX
2) ATT only uses one type (different sizes) of SIM cards and they are 3g/4g and LTE compatible.
3) The person who activated the phone, put the phone on a Pay per use plan (not LTE)...
4) The rep I just got off the phone with, is fixing that... temp 200mb LTE plan until the Unlimited LTE plan is put back on, Credit to cover the cost and fixed a number of other issues (like turning me on paperless billing).
So I was in the wrong thread... sorry bout that.

[Q] Different Carrier??

So I found a HTC One X from AT&T on the side of the road the other day, surprisingly in great condition. I unlocked the bootloader, rooted, have SuperCID, and have S-OFF. I was wondering if anyone here knew if it is possible to change this phone over in order to use on the Virgin Mobile network?

When i lost my sensation I used Google play and maps combo to track it within 30'
If imei has been registered with Google it can be easily tracked even without a aim card as long as it gets WiFi signal. And the phone can easily be blacklisted as long as imei is known.
And on the point of using it on virgin mobile if they are at all like Verizon they will have a SIM but only for the 4g data. Like a sprint iPhone. Uses cmda for calls and the sim for data connection.

Karma. If you take someone's property without even trying to return it, you deserve to have your property stolen or destroyed without a word of complaint.
I tried to return the phone....the phone was locked and I was unable to retrieve any numbers from it. There was a missed call on the lockscreen and I called that number but it had been disconnected. I put an ad on craigslist for a "FOUND LOST PHONE", I got a few replies but they were all looking for a different brand of phone.I have found atleast half a dozen phones in the last year and returned everyone of them. It's not like I just picked up the phone and immediately done a factory reset so I could start using it.
