Hello fellow g2x owners!
I don't post very often, as most, if not all of my questions/problems have always had solutions. But I have found no topic on this, and I have a feeling it affects very few people. I want this to be detailed too, so please bear with me.
On every cm7 (one cm9 too) rom I've flashed on the g2x, I have a screen wake bug.
When I press the power button, the screen turns off normally with the basic crt animation. When I press again to wake the screen, there is a very quick but noticeable bright flicker of white/black static lines just before the lock screen. The static flicker lasts for about a quarter of a second.
It's not really a major problem, but I notice it every time I turn on the screen. It seems to only affect the cyanogenmod-based roms, because stock and AOSP EaglesBlood aren't affected. Most recently attempted is the cm7 nightly.
I have tried:
disabling animations - screen on/screen off/rotation/windows/transitions
disabling automatic brightness
disabling lockscreen(s)
adjusting screen timeout
wiping, reflashing, wiping, reflashing
nullifier/cleanup batch
several different cm7 roms
I am on the March baseband now, but the problem existed before too. My mother's g2x has had it sometimes, but she's on stock now.
I might not be the only one either: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27487323&postcount=12
(Not my video, but same problem)
I really enjoy cyanogenmod roms, so I don't want to just give them up for good.
Could this be hardware related? Is my phone's screen somehow incompatible with the animations? Or is there a simple file edit/deletion cure? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Pretty sure they all do it, I've never noticed it before and it really isn't an issue in my opinion. I feel like it'd be labeled as a pet peeve or ocd matter. Little things like when the power down and those lines show up... just the way it is. Pretty sure it happens on all of our g2x's though... I'm on latest nightly as well.

thanks for responding.
I'm on AOSP EaglesBlood ICS right now, which doesn't have it. But it doesn't have full drivers either.
Cm7 always has such amazing features, and I was running with a full ICS layout and theme. Sure, it's probably some OCD, but I was very much close to being complete.
True wait for others to respond, I wouldn't say it's enough to make be switch roms but to each their own!

So I upgrade my Captivate to the leaked 2.2 and came to the conclusion that everyone else did after using it for a couple of days. I've been missing a few apps from the market (i.e. New York Times) since I've upgraded and stuff has been crashing so I decided to go with a custom ROM for it, especially because everyone says the phone becomes amazing once you do it. I decided to go with Cognition since its the one I've heard of that everyone seems to think is the best.
One question I have about Cognition is how does it run with LauncherPro? I really don't like TouchWiz 3.0 which is one of the bad things about Cognition. I'd prefer Vanilla Android with some HTC Sense capabilities, so LauncherPro is really important to me. Can anyone tell me how well it runs on Cognition?
Also, do you need to apply a lag fix to the Captivate once you install Cognition, or does it just run better overall?
Thanks to anyone that can help.
Cognition comes with the stock launcher, not the touch wiz launcher.
I've never been a fan of launcherpro, so I don't know how it runs. There us no reason to believe it wont run awesome, as cognition is silky smooth, fast and stable.
Cognition loads a voodoo lagfix upon flashing, so you don't need to. Keep that in mind, as you need to disable the lagfix before you flash anything else.
For what it's worth I like DesignGears other ROM better, perception. They are very similar, but perception lets you pick your lock screen.

I use LauncherPro on Cognition. It runs fine.
You won't regret switching to Cognition. It's a great ROM and is much faster than stock. And everything works.
I haven't tried any other ROMs yet but was thinking about flashing Perception thus weekend.

Can anyone tell me the risk factor of bricking my phone? I believe I mostly understand the process, I first need to go back to original 2.1 and go from there, but I'd rather not do it if there is a large chance of me bricking my phone.
Also, any forum tutorial would be nice, I like to have something to read up on it alongside a video. Thanks
I've always trusted dg for my roms. If you want to know how to install. Just go to the page and every step is laid out for you there. I have never had a problem with installing it. Even though it says to go back to stock I never do. But please do what it says untill you are ok with what you are doing. With that said. Flash and enjoy.

Searched for the page on this forum, the latest is 2.3 b8 correct? I remember reading somewhere that 2.41 was released, or something newer than 2.3
Nvm, ignore my last question, I figured out what that was. But I've been reading that Cognition and Perception are made by the same dev, so which one is the better, more updated one? I mainly want it to be fast and have app support for a couple 2.1 Galaxy S apps.
The chances of (fully) bricking it are pretty slim. I've actually never had a bad flash, and I've quite a bit of roms, including a few I cooked up on my own. In the absolute worst case scenario (you pulled the plug during a flash - though this is also not guaranteed to fully brick it - in an attempt to deliberately break it, and now your phone just shows a black screen), you may still get it into download mode by building yourself a jig (it's just a 301k resistor across pins 4 and 5 of your microusb slot).
Also, if you want my two cents on DG roms, Perception is a bit better than Cognition. I had some weird stability issues in Cog 2.3b6, and it was definitely slower than my current rom - Perception 10.1. There are a few annoying things in Percep, but they're mostly minor. The haptic feedback on the home button doesn't work, the lock screen unlock audio cue doesn't work even though the locking audio cue mysteriously does, and the browser still has the annoying issue of not being able to save large images in a higher resolution than 305x203. The phone call audio quality seems to be a bit crappier too, but it's not dreadful.
Edit:
Also, the NY Times app not appearing in the market on 2.2 devices is the fault of the developer. The developer can set a max sdk version in android apps, so if your version of Android is higher than the max version specified in the program's manifest, it will not appear in the market for you.
- It seems like they're now supporting 2.2. Check for "NYTimes for Android" or get it with the QR code here:

If anything, the main thing that I would probably get annoyed with about Perception is the haptic feedback for the home button and the call quality if there is a noticeable difference.
A few more questions, is Cognition still updated or was 2.3b8 the last one to be released? Also, with any of these ROMs, do I have to do anything special to gain the ability to side-load apps?

I probably wouldn't have noticed the difference in call quality if I didn't see other people complaining about it first. I think it's because it's based off of an i9000 rom, and to my understanding, the i9000 doesn't have a hardware support for noise cancellation (so it's done in software), whereas the Captivate does.
The haptic feedback on the home button "kind of" works. You get a haptic buzz when you do a long press, but you don't get a buzz if you just tap it.
The update question is a question for the dev, but I haven't seen Cog updated in a long time. I think DG is mostly focusing on Perception now.
Edit: err woops, forgot to answer part of your question. Both Cog and Percep permit sideloading by default, with Percep being slightly nicer because it restores the "Unknown sources" toggle under settings>applications.
I am running cognition now for three days, and couldn't be happier! Launcherpro is fine also. I flashed 2.3b6 (my roomate had it already and we didn't see that 2.3b8 was out)
I Followed an AWESOME video guide on youtube from a user on here named connexion2005
HERE is the link if you'd like it. Follow it to a tee and you will be a happy camper!

Alright, I guess I'm probably gonna end up going with Perception then, and since DG should be still working on it, hopefully some of those problems get fixed. If I do find anything particularly annoying about it, I guess I can just flash to Cognition. Everyone has been saying how once you start flashing that you can't stop, so I'll see . Thanks a lot for your help!
Also, I found this for the haptic feedback for anyone who wants on a fix for Perception that's reading this thread

great screen... but thats about it. single core & samsung way behind still on froyo official release..
i keep reading horrible issues on the g2x... so im kinda worried, i get the phone tomorrow as a replacement... but the more i read it seems the people with issues are running stock, does upgrading the rom really fix all the common issues? I keep reading recommendations for weapon for being the most stable. How about stable CM7?
Thanks guys
I havent had any problems running weapon except once in awhile some random reboots. Right now im running MIUI 1.10.28 and its running perfect. But flashing a different rom than stock fixes most of the problems. Hopefully you dont get one with screen bleeding. I had one and it was really bad almost half the screen looked horrible
GPS is a important factor for me, which rom has GPS working correctly?
Hit and miss with GPS. What I mean is some have problem while others don't. I never had a problem with my GPS(Stock or custom rom) there is a GPS fix never looked into it since mine works. Some people having apn issues with some roms, a hard reset usually fixes this. What you going to want to see is if the phone has bad light bleed, or reboots like crazy and get hot, feels like its overheating.

I know the leak is out there in the dev section, but I'm having trouble getting a feeling or consensus on the quality of the rom. In particular, I'm most concerned with battery life and general crashing/incompatibilities that might occur going about basic operations. Anyone care to share their experience so far? Is it more worth waiting til Jan/Feb when I'm guessing Verizon might finally release JB?

I've been running the CleanRom ULE version of this since the day it was posted and love it. Quite noticeably faster and smoother than ICS. GPS lock is faster than it ever was on ICS. Mobile data is the same as it was - I'm in a pretty good 4G area and have no problems. One thing I have noticed is that Wifi is pickier when I'm on the fringe of the signal. Some places where I used to be able to connect, I can't any more. But if I'm in a stronger signal area it's just fine.
I hate that my notification bar isn't straight black. It's like, off black but not quite grey.

Lol, I thought I was the only one who cared about that.....kinda annoys me.
Other than that, it runs super great for me. I was on it for the first three days or so, but needed my cm10 fix again. Its so good that I usually spend about half my week cm10, half on one of the jb leaks.

VRBLI5 JellyBean is better in certain areas and worse in others compared to ICS...overall I would give it a slight edge. I bet the official update will polish things up a bit. You have to remember the JB leak is dated oct. 8th. There was a reason it did not make it as a official ota...its still pretty good for a leak, definately not complaining by anymeans. :good:
The one from incubus hadn't given me a single problem yet. I think my battery life actually improved. After about 11 hrs yesterday mine was still at 30% (Bluetooth on, brightness up).
I think it's great. I'm using Synergy, which I think is excellent (always has been). If you use this ROM, you should also flash the radio update (I5) and RPM (power management) update. The radio is definitely improved - I'm not having my calls constantly dropped anymore in below-average signal locations!! Very happy with this update.
I flashed the Incubus RLS11 yesterday and it ran fine for a while. Things were smooth. Didn't notice any problems.
I'm in the sticks but I get pretty good LTE. To make sure I don't lose it when I need it I use the Phone Info app to go LTE only. That worked great on stock or stock-rooted-unlocked. It even worked good on CM10 and AOKP-M1. But for some reason on the Incubus ROM I started having real problems.
I tried forcing LTE only which would work for a few seconds and then would switch back automatically to the default LTE/CDMA/EvDo. After playing around with it some more it got stuck in CDMA auto (PRL) for a while and then GSM auto (PRL) and then EvDo only. It was really weird. I got tired of messing with it so I restored my stock image.
I didn't do the radios or RPM which was probably my problem. The links on the page I got the rom from were dead.
I'll try again, just didn't want to fool with it last night. Other than the radio issue it was real smooth. I'm a freak, I kinda really like TouchWiz. I was on stock or CM or KANG so much on my GNex, I'm enjoying the skinned experience. The biggest thing I miss from the GNex is JB though.
Been running JellyWiz RLS12 all week and it's been great. Battery life is same it was stock. Some have had issues with battery, but if you read through the thread for that ROM, I believe there are fixes. The only issue I have that is unresolved is I am not able to play movies or tv back through the Google Play Movies and TV app. The phone just reboots. Not a big deal for me right now, and Google Now easily makes up for it.
I have been running the lastest leak for two days now, the biggest changes I noticed, are the following
1. the Driving mode on/off toggle seems to have been removed from the pulldown bar, but driving mode itself is still there. (I downloaded a home screen widget to turn it on and off quickly)
2. The entire phone itself, from games, to movies, to youtube videos seems.....smoother and more refined (I blame Project Butter)
3. Slight battery life improvement :good:
4. if you use facial unlock, they moved the camera bypass from bottom to top right corner
My only complaint so far is that when I get a text message, missed call, voicemail I get the "Swipe over Icon to view the missed event" alert.
Don't get me wrong those nice little alerts help introduce to you new features of the phone. I don't mind them once or twice, but this specific one on the lock screen, I can't get rid of. Any ideas?

Under the wireless (WIFI) settings you have to disable "Avoid poor connections"..should help that

Have the same hotspot issues but otherwise it's pretty smooth. Very quick and yes I know everyone says that but it's not a placebo. I even put my phone back to stock because I need foxfi and it is considerable slower... Not slower but just not as quick to respond

Running Cleanrom 4.5 that is JB- Battery is awesome, rom feels fast and smooth.
These are the item I found wrong with the latest JB leak: (at least on my phone)
After an alarm goes off and you try and lock your phone, it won't lock. The screen will turn off but won't stay off. You have to unlock your phone to home screen then relock it.
New Samsung keyboard was incredibly laggy.
When trying to delete an extra home screen the phone would lock up and then say "touchwiz home has stopped working."
I don't think this was a bug but to get to the task manager, I had to hold down the home button for like 5 seconds!
There was another thing but I can't remember it. I was running the untouched leak, via Odin. I went back to stock.

Had the same problem, froze Help 1.0 with TiBU, no more problem. (credit some other post, cannot recall where)
Hello,
I hope this is in the right area, xda / android newb (switched from iPhone within the past three months WOOHOO :good but here goes...
I have the HTC One X (at&t) and I'm running CM10 nightly 20121216 with rohan kernel b6. Every once in a while I when I unlock my phone the touchscreen is completely unresponsive, meaning the lock slider does not work whatsoever nor does the notification center pulldown. I did my best to research this issue and I'm not sure how to replicate it or if its even relevant to CM10. As in is it just my phone, or is it rom / kernel combo that causes this? The only way to resolve this issue is to power down the phone using vol down + power as the power menu is unresponsive as well. If anyone has any insight and would like to provide a solution OR if this is a completely new bug I would be happy to provide more information.
Oh, and a big shout out to Richard V. for figuring out LED for notifications :good:
I'm pretty sure this is probably a bug with Sweep2Wake, enabled by rohan's kernel that you have installed. Try reflashing CM10 without any custom kernel and then see if you have the problem.
Under volting has cause that for me several times on cm. Its the death sleep. I stopped using kernel mods altogether because of stability about a month ago. So not sure if that's what is still happening for you. But perhaps give it a shot

Thanks guys I'll be sure to try that out. I somewhat had a feeling it might have something to do with the kernel.
Hey guys so I've got a huge issue. I'm on now my 3rd SGSIII and I'm getting very annoyed. My screen goes nuts randomly. I think I've found a fix, but I'm not sure what's causing it, as most people don't show the symptoms. My screen starts flashing and flickering, whether it's the lockscreen, the homescreens, within an app or in the app menu it does the same thing. I haven't taken a video of it yet, but will if someone wants to see what's happening. I've had it happen only on JB, both roms and stock doesn't seem to matter. The 'fix' is the same one as AOSP rom users use, which is to disable hardware overlay, however I don't know why a non-AOSP rom would need to deal with this. The roms I've used are: Vengeance, CleanRom, Synergy and The Executioner. I've gotten so annoyed that I've gotten Verizon to allow me to switch to the DNA if I want. I've taken a few Logcat's, if someone who can decipher them more than I can to figure out what's actually wrong would be great! I've taken a bunch of logcats, but only have one posted to pastebin. It was taken whilst I was having the issues. Thanks for the help guys!

Nope, I don't run that stuff because all of the rendering updates and stuff can get annoying to look at while working. I'm able to get the same issues on a fully stock rom, and a pure flashed rom, with a few programs installed. But the fact that the hardware render seems to be the issue to me is just very odd on a non-AOSP rom.
I have been having screen flickering issues ever since I flashed the latest AOKP build (AOSP) I originally thought that it was because of the kernal and the under voting that I applied but even with a different governor and normal volt settings the screen still flickeres. After some poking around I figured you that it is only happening while I am trying to type and by uninstalling the Swype beta keyboard the screen flicker had been reduced to almost nothing. I do not know why the keyboard would amplify the effect but if I use the system keyboard the flickering becomes almost non existent.
Also, the screen flickers anytime a pop up menu is on screen, such as in the tapatalk app, the menu that pops up to allow you to quote someone..

Had been having the same issue on Baked Bean 6, flashed BB7 last night and it seems the problem is gone. BB7 being 4.2.1 I'm guessing whether intentional or not somewhere along the process of updating the "bug" if it indeed was as it appeared was squashed.
I'd be curious to know what was causing this, if by chance you find a definitive answer please post it.
Thanks
Lk
I had a very similar issue for a while, i flashed LEAN KERNEL
Rebooted twice, and problem went away.
For an update, I flashed kt's latest kernal and the flashing has ceased.
