I have been reading some reviews and from what I gathered is that the US version does not have an IR built in. Can anyone confirm this? And is this also for European versions?
I tried looking it up but some say it does and some say it doesn't.
Thanks in advance!
Hi,
I have the Samsung Galaxy 2 7.0" and YES, it does have the IR Blaster built-in.
As of now, only apps I found for it was the Peel (it came with the tablet) and Touchsquid.
I think the way it is 3113 us version has ir. 3110 international version has no ir.
good day.

I can confirm this. The Dutch (international) version (P3110) has no IR.
Samsung Tab 2 IR blaster
The Samsung Tab 2 sold in the US has an IR blaster. It appears they don't include the feature outside the US. The Peel app is not fully functional outside the US so perhaps that is why they have IR only in the US.
The Touchsquid tablet has an IR blaster, and is available worldwide. The TS PRO remote control app is included in the price, costs $49 on the Samsung.

Actually Touchsquid came up with a separate app specifically for Samsung Tab 2 (sold in the US with an IR blaster), costs 19.99$

They say this TouchSquid app should work on the Tab 7 Plus as well. Has anyone tried it? Is it worth $20?

I don't know that I'd call Peel fully functional withing the US either. It's been nothing but a buggy piece of crap that crashes all the time for me. Maybe the latest update will fix some things.

Haven't had it crash, but i am unable to select a content guide, had to lie to it and say I get ota tv. Otherwise works well, not that I've used it much. Almost seems like a novelty, it easier to just use my Damn remote

Well i have the US version of the tab (P3113) n i live in india....I can use peel to control my TV n all....
The Peel app asks you if you are International or in the US - the guide information may not work but the remote functions should work. I don't know, after about 5-10 minutes setting mine up with it working it just stopped and hasn't worked since.

Does the indian version has ir or not?....can anyone reply
Probably not. Pretty sure it's US only.

Bought mine a while ago and it had no IR. It is the P3110 and I am from Greece. So freakin' disappointing.

sounds like you got a knock-off of it and not a genuine tab. Or possibly not the tab 2.
what is the model number listed in settings?
Not so, it's was from carphone warehouse, it's genuine alright, but i expect it's cos it's a UK version or summat. Also, changing connection sorted the downloads out. Which is odd, cos i have two other android devices that work fine with my home network.

Cheers for clearing that up tho
It appears only the us models have the ir blaster. I also bought the device based on the reviews, as the manual is not included, samsung should make a spec change like this clear. Still i love the tablet.
Yup, gotta be honest, for the wedge, it's great. Only thing lacking is the camera but i really don't think I'll be using it anyway.

I purchased a Galaxy Samsung Tab 2 7 inch 3G P3110 version in Singapore. There isn't any IR blaster port either.
There isn't much use for the IR blaster, not for me anyway. Samsung hasn't released the code for it, so the tablet is essentially a P3110 once a custom ROM is installed.

Hi Just purchased Tab2 10.1 GT P5110 (UK) Xmas present for the wife, setting it up for her so on Xmas day its ready to go. One Question
I can not see the Peel remote app on the Tablet so I downloaded the app from the play store, when installed it says it does not support my model.
Do I have this function or have I misunderstood the specs?

Look on the side of the device near the volume controls , if there is a little black window midway on that side you have the IR blaster , if not, you don't. Some non-US models do not have that hardware. Some do. If you have it, then Peel will work, but make sure you download the Peel for Samsung , there are other versions of Peel.

Yes that's what is confusing me, I see the IR blaster near micro sd slot, but no pre installed app, and I made sure I downloaded the Samsung app. Do people that have the IR blaster, did their tablet have the app pre installed.
I believe you may be able to "trick" the app into thinking it's the US version by changing something in the build.prop file. Not sure if that's true or which lines would need to be edited, though. Anyone confirm this?
Plan B would be to install a stock based custom ROM for P5113, which does work on the P5110 models...

Depending on exactly what you are trying to accomplish, it may already be capable via AllShare Cast. I can show my Note 10.1 screen on multiple note 10.1 devices, I think 8 is the max (I have only had 5 going, no more too add or test), but using AllShare Cast, the other devices would display whatever my screen is displaying. This will also work for newer Samsung TV/Displays, at least natively on their "Smart TV's" from 2012 for certain. Also, their is an AllShare Hub accessory that can be purchased to do the same thing on any TV/monitor/projector with HDMI input. It works with both audio & video & while the hub is a bit expensive for older tv's ($99.00 USD), if you register a Samsung device on the Samsung website, you get a code good for %50 off up to 10 items. I used the code to get the Hub for $49.00, as well as for a Navigation & a Desk dock.
It is great for just about anything except racing or fast action games. There is a small lag, nothing major, almost unnoticeable, unless you are playing a game where a few milliseconds can be the difference between wrecking or making a turn in Asphalt. For everything else though, it is pretty sweet. I use it for my older Plasma in the media room.

Hey Gang,
Just want to make sure all the S4 owners know that Mifare Classic Tags are NOT fully compatible with the new Galaxy S4 since it used the Broadcom NFC Chip. Mifare Classics are the most affordable and inexpensive and are compatible with previous Galaxy models (S3, Note, Note 2) but are NOT fully compatible with this new S4.
NTAG203 tags are fully compatible with ALL NFC phones including the new Galaxy S4!
Any NFC Tag that adheres to the NFC Forum protocols will be fully compatible so stick to those. Of those, the most popular and affordable are NTAG203 Tags which work great and have about 137 bytes of usable memory. This will be enough for almost any NFC App EXCEPT the official Tectile App which uses way more memory than it should. I'd suggest not using the Tectile app - there are many better NFC apps!
The 137 bytes on the NTAG203 tags is also enough to create a basic contact sharing tag with Name/Business/Email/Phone, but if you're wanting a full business card with name/business name/street address/website/email/phone/etc then 137 bytes probably won't cut it. (TIP: Install the NFC by MOO app - type in all the info you want on the tag and see how many bytes you need BEFORE buying).
Another tag that is gaining popularity is the Topaz 512 which is also fully compatible with ALL NFC phones and has 512 bytes of actual memory and about 480 bytes of usable memory. This should suffice for the Samsung Tectile app as well as holding all your business info. However, these are more expensive than the NTAG203 tags and will be overkill for most applications as the NTAG203's have plenty of memory for most task launchers or basic contact info.
There are other NFC Chip formats out there - any that adhere to the NFC Forums Type 1 or Type 2 compatibility protocols will work with the Galaxy S4. But based on what's readily available and popular the main thing to remember is that Mifare Classic Tags are NOT compatible with the S4; NTAG203 Tags and Topaz 512 Tags ARE fully compatible!
Hope this info proves helpful and keeps some people from wasting money on tags that aren't compatible.
Found this out the hard way. I have a bunch of mifare tags that I used pretty extensively with my skyrocket and my express and they just plain don't work with the s4. You just get an error that says "tag not supported."
Thanks for the additional info. If you search the forums you will see that there is already a couple of informative threads about this issue but more information is always welcome.
I wish I found this earlier .. I bought 5 tags off ebay and their the Mifare tags and just tried them out on my GS4 with no luck, good job they didnt cost much.
Thanks for the info about which tags actually work with GS4:good:
I used tectiles on my S3 and it was a bummer to find out it does not work with my S4. Thanks for the info :good:

This is not true. TagsforDroid sells NFC tags that are compatible with S4s, you just can't use the Mifare tags (as has been explained).
Ok, since this is the general forum, Im gonna ask a newb question... what can a user do with a NFC tag? I thought they were the type of things that I can just wave my phone at in starbucks to buy a cup of coffee with, but Im guessing they are something else altogether?

I just wrote toggle mobile data on/off, Wi-Fi on/off blocking mode on/off, & auto sync on/off using one NFC chip. These things are nice. I did not use Samsung's model.
I use tags from tagstand.com with my S4 in conjunction with the NFC task launcher app. They are compatible.
P.S. This thread should be under Accessories.

To put it short, they are little tags with chips in them that u can program on ur phone and when u place ur phone next to them it automate tasks on your phone, like I want my gps to turn on and my navigation to open up all without touching/pressing any buttons. so I can stick one of these on my car cradle and when I dock it, it does the tasks. But theres many other things u can use them for.. these have a few ideas

i think you're thinking of the wireless charging Qi.
Maybe I am just super old (likely) but I really missed having an IR blaster on my previous phone (Note 3). I've been playing around with the included Smart Controller and have successfully programmed it to control my TV and set top box (ATT Uverse). The IR blaster is working so well that I am thinking about getting the Anymote app.
It gives me a lot of convenience with my appliances at home or work.
One of the reasons I went for it cos IR is important to me and has to be part of my phone; LG G2, G3 and V10
