Micro SD problem - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

So I wanna start rooting my phone and decided to order a 32 GB Micro SD card for my Skyrocket. When I try to slide the card in though, there's no click. The card definitely works as I've tried putting it in the adapter and and connected it to my PC.
I thought these cards were pretty much universal. Did I buy a wrong one or could my SD card reader thing be broken? It's not letting me link to what I bought but it was a Samsung class 10 Micro SDHC card. Am I doing something wrong?

Maybe the micro sd card slot in the phone is broken

It seems like it. If I push the card in all the way the phone reads the card. The moment I let go it dismounts. Looks like the locking mechanism on it is broken. I got this phone pretty recently, would I be able to send this in or something for a free repair?

Ya just call samsung and tell them it xame like that and they should sent u a new one or if it is under 15 days u can take it to the att and they will give u a new

New SD erasing apps when restarting phone!!

So I bought this sandisk 32g microSD (overkill, I know off eBay for $20. I thought it might be a fake but it seemed legit as the seller was 100% feedback. It arrived in its original packaging. It says it a class 2. It also has its full 31.2g of space. I formatted it before use. It checked it write and read speeds. They are the same as the SD that came with my phone. Now every time I restart my phone about half the apps I have moved to my SD card disappear. I don't really know why, and I kinda do wanna use this card. Help please?

Use H2testw to test your sd card and see if its fake or not

Like the other one said, the problem is your SD card.
It happened to me when I bought 2 32 GB card from ebay at low cost.
In fact, they flash a 32 GB firmware on a 1 GB card.
Can't say I'm surprised. Thanks. Also what is H2testw?

its a program for detecting counterfeit usb drive or flash memory card
you should try to use that on your sd card and see if its "real"
i don't trust any sd card on ebay any day
always buy from legitimate reseller

Damaged SD Card

I'm starting to get really annoyed with either this phone/android or cm7. My SD card apparently has been "damaged" yet again for the 2nd time in 2 days while the phone sat at idle. I have a backup of all the important items but this is beyond annoying to keep reformatting sd cards. Any ideas as to what might be destroying my sd card?
What's the default capacity of the card? If it's 8GB, is it the card that came with the phone? If it's not that card, did you buy the card from a reputable vendor? There are entirely too many counterfeit cards floating about these days.
It's a 16GB Class 6 card I bought on Amazon. Forgot the brand and it's not even listed on the card itself. I think it was Komputerbay. That's probably my issue.
Hmm.. Was the card sold directly by Amazon, or was it a 3rd party just selling "new/used" stuff via Amazon?
Nah it was from a 3rd party. I was being cheap and found a 16GB Class 6 card at a good price so I figured who cares what brand it is and I guess 4 months later is when I'm paying for that.
Something to try, rather than reformatting every time, is to mount the card on your computer and run fdisk. Try this link for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4112485&postcount=9
I realize he is talking about a Windows Mobile phone, but this has worked for me.

I'll give that a shot when I get home and more than likely I'll be smashing this card and using the stock 8GB card till I can get a real good card.

It is probably your card, I have a class 2 16gb card I have used in 4 or 5 phones over the past year with no trouble.

Yeah I'm betting it's a cheap p.o.s. card. Good thing I got my invite to Music Beta today! I'll upload my music there and be fine with the stock 8GB card.
Another thing that seems to work for me when I get "Damaged SD Card" or "SD Card Unexpectedly Removed" is boot into Recovery, go to Mounts and Storage, and make sure all four partitions are unmounted. I don't know why they are mounted on boot, but it seems like when I get an SD issue, I go into Mounts and Storage and one of them has to be unmounted.
This usually happens when I have recently mounted USB storage to transfer files to/from my computer. If anybody has some insight into this, please speak up! Thanks.

Issue with new sdcard

I purchased a new Kingston 16 gig class 4 SD card. I installed it and noticed it was not recognizing the card in recovery. Then I starting feeling a lot of heat coming from the back of my phone. I pulled out the battery and the new sd card was super hot. I made sure the card was pushed all the way in and booted the phone again and had the same problem. I placed the old card back in and had no issues at all. Anyone have any ideas what could cause this?
I think you can asume by ur self that ur new card is not working and there is no way to repare it. there is no other conclusion!
If u can retun it for new one !

Do you have a card reader you can use to see if it can be read by your desktop computer? Its looking like the card is bad, as stated in the previous reply.

[Q] 16GB MircoSD problem for infuse?

Today I purchased a PNY 16gb microSD for my infuse, when I got home I turned off the phone took out the battery and took out my old 2GB and put in the 16gb. When in the settings it told me I had 7.68gb left on my internal memory and 1.87gb left on the SD card, why doesn't it recognize the SD card?
You don't mention formatting the 16gig, did you do so?

No, I didn't think I had to since I just bought it from walmart. lol
How do I format the external SD?
Do it up on the computer broski. Real simple. Use the piece that Sammy gave you in the Infuse box, plug it in, it will recognize it as a mass storage device and FAT32 it up.. real simple. Dead simple. Quick or fast, or whatever it is format works damn well. Boom. 16 gig. Worked both in the my phone and my tablet..Good luck bro.

Exactly what I intend to do when I get a 64gig.

I formatted it, but it still says sdcard has 7.68GB available which is INTERNAL memory, and it says internal memory is 1.87GB available which was from my 2GB sdcard that I removed. I can still put files on the MicroSD but it isn't recognizing it as having the ful 14.8 GB that it should be available on it.

Don't bother getting a 64 for your infuse, the infuse only supports up to a 16gig
Also can anyone help me it recognizes the SD but not as having 14.8GB on it.

I thought it supported up to 32gigs...
Anyways i while back i got a class 10 16gb Amazonbasics micro sd card for $26-speed tests on my phone proved it was actually class 10 too! when i recieved it i didnt formatit at all, i just did what the op said, i took out battery took out preloaded 2gig card pluged in new 16 gig card and it showed up right away
You say its showing you have about a gig on external right? That neans it has to be detecting something or its just stuck on the old one since even tho its gone...heres what i would do:
1) go to seetings>sd card and phone storage>format usb storage
2) reboot
If that fails then:
3) if you have a rom installed then reflash
4) last resort odin back to stock
Hope that helps and if it doesnt see if the amazon basic sd card i got is still on sale if it is i highly suggest getting it!

I am on MIUI so I go to SDcard and hit format? because that is the only Format option I know of. Also since it is backwards in the about phone ( Internal Storage is actually Sdcard and Sdcard is actually Internal) I don't want to accidentally format my phone.
Hmm..not on miui but for me i actually have to unmount sdcard then i can format...i know i said something different earlier
So yah if you have the option to unmount one of them then thats the one you want to format and you may need to unmount to format it
If you cant format (which ive never needed to do only done it to start clean) then there might be something wrong with your rom

I just took the Sdcard out completely and then restarted, it STILL told me I had 1.87GB left. I plugged my phone into the computer, Removable disc L (SD card), was recognized, and removable disc K (Internal Storage) both had the right amount of available space on them, why won't the phone recognize the SD card?
Only supports 16 gig huh... damn! I guess I meet to take this 32 gig card out then and change it.... :/

So what I've seen elsewhere about other androids that don't support 64gb being able to work with 64gb (essentially ~59gb at formatting) doesn't apply as well to the Infuse?

Like i said earlier the phone is detecting something otherwise it would say no sdcard inserted-problem is its stuck on detecting the old sdcard...try turning your phone on without the sdcard and see what it says because im guessing its going to still say 1.87gb left if it does then im sorry but you should probably try reflashing your rom, if that doesnt work then try odin back to stock i know its not much help but its all i can think of
If it says no sdcard inserted without the sdcard in than you probably have a defective sdcard. If thats the case go exchange it for a new one wherever you bought it at

The infuse supports sdhc, up to 32 gigs. Those other devices support sdxc which covers sdhc cards and sdxc cards. My Thrive supports the 64gb sdxc cards nicely but they're just too expensive right now.

From what I've read, it's a minor software tweak/update away from working on the Infuse, not a hardware issue.

How many threads do you have??

I had a similar problem with SD card when I first got my Infuse
"Found someone else over at Android Central who had the same exact problem with the same exact card, the Patriot 16GB SDHC class 4 found at Microcenter. Suffice to say I am just going to exchange it for a SanDisk"

The higher the thread count the better. My sheets are 750 and I sleep like a baby.
Oh my bad, you meant thread counts on sd cards so this one is just taking up space.

OK to use older micro SD cards?

From reading around here it seems that this phone is picky with micro SD cards. I don't want to buy a new one, but I have an old 8GB card that came with my Droid 2. It doesn't even have a brand name on it and it looks like a class 2.
Is this going to cause problems or can I go ahead and use it? I want to install ROMs but it usually says to put the file on an external card.
I guess worst case, it stops working. I would use it.
