[Q] 16GB MircoSD problem for infuse? - Samsung Infuse 4G

Today I purchased a PNY 16gb microSD for my infuse, when I got home I turned off the phone took out the battery and took out my old 2GB and put in the 16gb. When in the settings it told me I had 7.68gb left on my internal memory and 1.87gb left on the SD card, why doesn't it recognize the SD card?

You don't mention formatting the 16gig, did you do so?

No, I didn't think I had to since I just bought it from walmart. lol

How do I format the external SD?

Do it up on the computer broski. Real simple. Use the piece that Sammy gave you in the Infuse box, plug it in, it will recognize it as a mass storage device and FAT32 it up.. real simple. Dead simple. Quick or fast, or whatever it is format works damn well. Boom. 16 gig. Worked both in the my phone and my tablet..Good luck bro.

Exactly what I intend to do when I get a 64gig.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium

I formatted it, but it still says sdcard has 7.68GB available which is INTERNAL memory, and it says internal memory is 1.87GB available which was from my 2GB sdcard that I removed. I can still put files on the MicroSD but it isn't recognizing it as having the ful 14.8 GB that it should be available on it.

Don't bother getting a 64 for your infuse, the infuse only supports up to a 16gig
Also can anyone help me it recognizes the SD but not as having 14.8GB on it.

I thought it supported up to 32gigs...
Anyways i while back i got a class 10 16gb Amazonbasics micro sd card for $26-speed tests on my phone proved it was actually class 10 too! when i recieved it i didnt formatit at all, i just did what the op said, i took out battery took out preloaded 2gig card pluged in new 16 gig card and it showed up right away
You say its showing you have about a gig on external right? That neans it has to be detecting something or its just stuck on the old one since even tho its gone...heres what i would do:
1) go to seetings>sd card and phone storage>format usb storage
2) reboot
If that fails then:
3) if you have a rom installed then reflash
4) last resort odin back to stock
Hope that helps and if it doesnt see if the amazon basic sd card i got is still on sale if it is i highly suggest getting it!

I am on MIUI so I go to SDcard and hit format? because that is the only Format option I know of. Also since it is backwards in the about phone ( Internal Storage is actually Sdcard and Sdcard is actually Internal) I don't want to accidentally format my phone.

Hmm..not on miui but for me i actually have to unmount sdcard then i can format...i know i said something different earlier
So yah if you have the option to unmount one of them then thats the one you want to format and you may need to unmount to format it
If you cant format (which ive never needed to do only done it to start clean) then there might be something wrong with your rom

I just took the Sdcard out completely and then restarted, it STILL told me I had 1.87GB left. I plugged my phone into the computer, Removable disc L (SD card), was recognized, and removable disc K (Internal Storage) both had the right amount of available space on them, why won't the phone recognize the SD card?

Only supports 16 gig huh... damn! I guess I meet to take this 32 gig card out then and change it.... :/

So what I've seen elsewhere about other androids that don't support 64gb being able to work with 64gb (essentially ~59gb at formatting) doesn't apply as well to the Infuse?

Like i said earlier the phone is detecting something otherwise it would say no sdcard inserted-problem is its stuck on detecting the old sdcard...try turning your phone on without the sdcard and see what it says because im guessing its going to still say 1.87gb left if it does then im sorry but you should probably try reflashing your rom, if that doesnt work then try odin back to stock i know its not much help but its all i can think of
If it says no sdcard inserted without the sdcard in than you probably have a defective sdcard. If thats the case go exchange it for a new one wherever you bought it at

The infuse supports sdhc, up to 32 gigs. Those other devices support sdxc which covers sdhc cards and sdxc cards. My Thrive supports the 64gb sdxc cards nicely but they're just too expensive right now.

From what I've read, it's a minor software tweak/update away from working on the Infuse, not a hardware issue.

Damaged SD Card

I'm starting to get really annoyed with either this phone/android or cm7. My SD card apparently has been "damaged" yet again for the 2nd time in 2 days while the phone sat at idle. I have a backup of all the important items but this is beyond annoying to keep reformatting sd cards. Any ideas as to what might be destroying my sd card?
What's the default capacity of the card? If it's 8GB, is it the card that came with the phone? If it's not that card, did you buy the card from a reputable vendor? There are entirely too many counterfeit cards floating about these days.
It's a 16GB Class 6 card I bought on Amazon. Forgot the brand and it's not even listed on the card itself. I think it was Komputerbay. That's probably my issue.
Hmm.. Was the card sold directly by Amazon, or was it a 3rd party just selling "new/used" stuff via Amazon?
Nah it was from a 3rd party. I was being cheap and found a 16GB Class 6 card at a good price so I figured who cares what brand it is and I guess 4 months later is when I'm paying for that.
Something to try, rather than reformatting every time, is to mount the card on your computer and run fdisk. Try this link for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4112485&postcount=9
I realize he is talking about a Windows Mobile phone, but this has worked for me.

I'll give that a shot when I get home and more than likely I'll be smashing this card and using the stock 8GB card till I can get a real good card.

Yeah I'm betting it's a cheap p.o.s. card. Good thing I got my invite to Music Beta today! I'll upload my music there and be fine with the stock 8GB card.
Another thing that seems to work for me when I get "Damaged SD Card" or "SD Card Unexpectedly Removed" is boot into Recovery, go to Mounts and Storage, and make sure all four partitions are unmounted. I don't know why they are mounted on boot, but it seems like when I get an SD issue, I go into Mounts and Storage and one of them has to be unmounted.
This usually happens when I have recently mounted USB storage to transfer files to/from my computer. If anybody has some insight into this, please speak up! Thanks.

Warnings with SD cards for A2

So I recently ordered a Sandisk Class 4 16 gb sd card for my Atrix 2. I wanted to be able to keep a backup of a ROM at all times while having 500 songs on my phone..but 2 gb just didnt cut it.
So i tried to connect the card with my phones USB cable while having it in the device, but it just wasnt showing up on the computer. I had to end up using a card reader.
It still works...just something to keep in mind while buying SD cards.

thats probably it. I had this happen off and on until I let android format it. my recomendation would be to put it in your computer and format it as fat32 then put it in the phone and have it format it
Thanks a lot ill try that
Although problems do not seem to be prevalent with the slower class cards, it might be a good idea to follow Patriot's advice regarding formatting. The suggestion was posted by Patriot in response to a review of a 32GB class 10 microSDHC.
Patriot acknowledged a problem with hemorrhoid OS and 32GB class 10 cards and suggested a temporary fix of performing a full format on a Windows PC with a 32kb allocation size, obviously FAT32 since stock hemorrhoid does not recognize NFTS.
The reply can be found in this review although the specific page will change if more reviews are added.

I got a 16gb class 4 sandisk and I am formatting it in my computer using following method:
I inserted the memory card in my E71 and connected it to my computer in mass storage mode. Then I started formatting using fat32, 32kb through my computer. But it is taking ages. Since last 2 hours, only 35% is completed. My questions:
1) Can i stop the format in between ? Or will it lead to certain faults?
2) Is the format this slow? Or should I try formatting it by putting it in adaptor and putting the adaptor in laptop slot and then format?

I'm using a Kingston 32GB Class 4 card, which is actually in my SGS3 now from my A2, and I have never seen anything to complain about with it. I still hit high benchmark scores as noted with my A2 as well as my SGS3, thinking though that I may try a higher rated class sdcard for the SGS3, since it doesn't seem to have the issues that the A2 has seen. But, a little more digging around has to be done before I make that kind of jump! (Better safe than sorry!) But, yes, the Class 10 cards will -eventually- give you grief if you try to use one with the A2. Not sure the 'scientifically-proven' answer to give here, just know that from everything I have seen, which has been substantial enough for me to believe that...

You should try a re-formatting of the sdcard, as you likely have some corrupted app data/other data that is causing the rebooting. A Class 4 card should give you no problems like this, unless you have some issues like I just mentioned.
And if you're trying to restore app data from, say, Titamium Backup, I recommend you do not do this. Just try a fresh format of the card, and do not restore data to it. Run your phone afterward for a good while to test. If your phone continues to reboot after you have tried this, changes are that you can rule out the possibility of the cause being due to the sdcard, and we can explore other possible known culprits...

And Doggcatcher has the majority of my podcast downloads failing. This has persisted after a couple reformats. Thoughts?

[Q] My phone identifies the SD card and data on it, but few things are accessible

Alright, first let me start by saying that I hope this is in the right area and i'm sorry because i'm sure this question has been asked to death.
I have a Galaxy S 3 Running stock with android 4.0.4 (Not rooted)
I also have a SanDisk Ultra 64GB SDXC class 10 MicroSD card (Formatted to FAT32)
I have had the phone a month and for probably the first week I was using the card in the ExFAT file format...Then random card identification problems started to pop up. So I scoured the web for a short time and found that the issue could be solved by reformatting the MicroSD to FAT32 at the expense of not being able to have single files larger than 4GB. Everything worked for a good week, then suddenly the phone didnt know I had music on it anymore, my player stopped and i confusedly navigated through songs that weren't there. I removed the card and reinserted and the files worked again.
Well today the phone is doing the same weirdness again, it is identifying that there is in fact a 64GB MicroSD and the amount of data is correct. It is also allowing me to navigate to the files in ASTRO, even my PC still detects and allows me to Add/Delete files from the MicroSD...BUT my phone will NOT use it. For example, if I go to camera and want to take a picture with the destination being the MicroSD, the phone says "What MicroSD?", also my media gallery is empty (Save for the files stored in the internal storage) and my music player is empty as well.
Anyway, I didn't know what course of action I should take. Does it sound like one or both of these items needs to be returned/reformatted/smashed with a hammer?
I am not sure if the sgs3 supports 64gb cards, i suggest you first try with a 32gb card to see if it is a card reader problem or a mmc problem

If that's the case why does it state on all the North American Cellular phone websites that the phone supports "Up to 64GB MicroSD"? Seems crazy that such a large feature could be so buggy.

It sounds like your sd card is failing you. Definitely backup all your data to a computer and think about replacing this micro sd card via manufacturer warranty.

SanDisk Ultra 64 GB microSDXC Class 10 UHS-1 Memory Card Issue

I bought this MicroSDXC card http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007WTAJTO/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00 from Amazon and every so often my microSD card will vanish. It will not show anything on the card when using Root Explorer and my music will not play and data on the card will not work. A few reboots fixes the issue but it's troublesome to reboot all the time. Sometimes it even says the card is damaged and needs to be formatted to work so I just reboot again and then it works. Anyone else having issues with this card? What can I do to remedy this problem besides rebooting all the time?
I have also experienced similar issues with the same card I got off Amazon a few weeks ago. I am tempted to reformat it from exFAT to FAT32 only issuue I would have is any video files larger than 4GB won't translate since FAT has a filesize limit If you don't have this issue I would try reformatting to FAT32 (backup your card data first) I suspect you will have no problems

CWM cannot read sdcards formated in exFAT, only FAT32.
If you need to format a 64 GB card in FAT32, a lot of people suggest using:

Maybe Samsung lied to us and the Phone can't handle 64Gb cards. Still having this issue and nothing fixes it.
I bought a 64 gb card a few weeks back when they were on sale and right out of the box I used GUIformat on my PC to format to fat32 and have never had a problem.

It may also be that the microSD isn't that good either, and needs to be replaced. Other devices have had trouble with the 64 GB sandisk cards as well (i.e. Nook HD+ w/CM 10). But then again, the phone might just be temperamental as well.
I bought a card like this and I still can't get it to work, my computer recognizes it no problems but the phone won't, I've tried a few different formats. any suggestions?

[Q] SD card just died

I've had a 32 gig micro SD in my phone for a while now. I recently took my Siii out of my pocket only to find that it says the SD is unmounted. Odd, but not unheard of in the world of custom roms (paranoidkangdroid 2.something, rather recent though, 4.2.2 JB) So i do the sensible thing: Run into the storage menu, and lo and behold, its not registering. I pop it out and in, not registering. I reboot, and the damn thing still isn't registering. Then I take an old 2 GB micro SD and try it. This one worked just fine. 32 gig however does not. I move to my PC. Pop it in a micro to regular SD adapter, and the computer doesn't mount it. It does mount every other microSD of mine though. So can anyone tell me what the hell happened, and how I can recover my stuff?
Actually you can't, your sd card is corrupted and it's known to happen with this device that's why I always keep a weekly backup on my computer with everything. Especially the ones ordered from amazon the high capacity ones as far as I've seen.

Is the SD card damaged or can it just be reformatted with a card reader on a PC (fat I am assuming)?
I was about to start using an SD card to backup the internal storage. It doesn't sound like this is the best option and backing it to my PC would be better.
My set up to start was cleanrom 6.2 with envy kernel running fine for a week. I had my sd card disappear today twice. PNY class 10 32gb less than 2 weeks old from best buy. Popped it in my pc and it was recognized no problem. So I transferred my data, formatted in fat 32 popped it in phone, no problem. Transferred data back and was Ok for a few hours. Swapped my battery for a freshly charged one and upon boot, phone said the card was damaged, to reformat it. So, I pulled it out and popped it in my pc. Pc said card was damaged. I opened a command prompt and ran a chkdsk /f and it fixed an issue with the file system. I then proceeded to restore my cleanrom 6.2 backup. So far so good. I am thinking it had to do with an app, but I can't be sure. Upon googling this, it seems that some people have had an issue with external sd cards with this phone.

I move to my PC. Pop it in a micro to regular SD adapter, and the computer doesn't mount it. It does mount every other microSD of mine though. So can anyone tell me what the hell happened, and how I can recover my stuff?

I'm not sure exactly what brand or model you have for your SD card or when you purchase it. However if its a SanDisk and it was purchased before December 2012 there's a chance that it was part of a bad batch. I had the exact same problem with mine I have a UHs 1 32 gig SanDisk. I read somewhere on the internet that there is a known problem with SD cards from that company built before December. When I spoke with SanDisk they confirm that and said the newer batches have been corrected. Long story short if you're using an ultra high speed or for that matter any card by SanDisk call up there customer service explain to them the problem and they will send you a brand new one. The entire process took about a week for me.

Did you try my suggestion? Ive recovered numerous files using a linux live cd and/or a mac. Try putting the card in a network printer or mem card reader if linux and mac os isnt possible. Ive recovered my files, including those from a 16gb micro sd card, using those methods in the past.
Okay, so it works
Alright alright, i didn't expect this to get many responses. Anyway, it now works. It appeared to be fried, my mac, PC, ubuntu machine, and OG droid wouldn't even recognize that a card was inserted. Nor would my GS3. My solution? after turning it on and off a few times, I just left the card in it and set it aside for an hour. Lo and behold, it now works. The SD now works. It was fried, and is now unfried. I don't know how, I just guess I am lucky. Or aliens. Either way, I am happy. Not gonna jeep anything more than music on it though... Ah well, thanks for the help XDA!
If I were you, I'd back up everything on that card to my pc, and exchange it if under warranty. If not, chuck it, and purchase another card.
Not worth taking the risk again.
Consider yourself lucky so far

I've had a 32 gig micro SD in my phone for a while now. I recently took my Siii out of my pocket only to find that it says the SD is unmounted. So I have had my sd card corrupt a few times now, so far this has seemed to help me recover my data.

The problem could be a sandisk SD card:

I read about the SD problems after just getting the S3.. decided to get a different brand card from the store.
