[Q] TWRP - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Will we ever receive TWRP 2 for this Device.
(BEGIN RANT ) I mean its sort of ironic that the Evo Shift Got it when it was an old device
and the first Honeycomb Tablet and the first tablet with a dual core processer cant get it. (END RANT).

Go read the TWRP blog. Then you will find out that they don't have enough money to purchase a Xoom. Maybe you should donate yours to them or donate the money required to get a Xoom.

[Q] Tablet suggestions?

I've been dying to get a tablet lately and before i buy one i want to get some suggestions from the community. i've really been favoring the Galaxy Tab lately but i've heard great things about the Nook Color as well as the Eee and Xoom. I probably wouldn't be keeping it stock (i might because i really enjoy honeycomb but i don't know) so i would be looking for something with a good development community. i also only would be buying a wi-fi only model because i 1) can't afford another 3G plan and 2) can use the wi-fi hotspot on my SGS4G. So please, offer up your suggestions
I recomend that you get the wifi xoom. Honeycomb source code has not been released so you can not expect any extreme roms. The developing community for the xoom is still really good with a few really good roms and kernels. The bootloader is also easily unlocked and relocked via fastboot oem unlock and lock. The speed is great, and can be overclocked to 1.7 ghz on both cores. The frame of the xoom is nice and feels more sturdy then the other tabs, but is heavier than others such as the galaxy tab 10.1. I hope this helps.
P.S. I do not care how old this post is if this helped you please press the thanks button.

Would you mind explaining what exactly fastboot is? I've heard it talked about but never heard what it really was

Yes please explain.
I have been flashing new roms and kernals for about a month. Im starting to feel comfy with it so i was looking to get a cheaper tablet in hopes that i could flash a rom on it and instantly speed it up. Please list some pros and cons of doing so.
P.S. I already hit the thanks button and im not afraid to do it again!
I want to buy a tablet, but I still consider netbook is better because I still can do many thing for work, print, and that tablet can do with the same or cheaper prize.

Bump for more info?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
id also consider the asus transformer (which has specs that can compete with the galaxy tab)
and about fastboot, i dont exactly understand what the difference between fastboot and recovery is, but fastboot allows you to modify the flash filesystem. its kind of like adb in the fact that commands are sent over a usb connection.
anyone with more suggestions?
bump for more info, i'm leaning towards the Galaxy Tab (10.1)

my tablet suggestions:
-Transformer prime: a few weeks out, but so much raw power, its gonna be epic. also, will have ICS
-archos 101 g9 - really good (and cheap) general purpose tab. not the best screen quality
-sony tablet s - great tab, great screen. unhackable tho, if you care.
-any honeycomb galaxy tab - really nice tabs, i think touchwiz actually is good here. best in class, but also most expensive, and no ports.
-toshiba thrive - big, heavy, and not the greatest battery. but great software and all the ports you'll ever want.
fastboot is the default recovery for the android os.
In that you can easily flash roms without using cwm.
You can directly put the ROM image files in the phone and voila you've flashed the phone successfully.
No need of flashing signed zip files and all.

Obselete..

The other day i was thinking who tells when a phone timez is up. Lets say this LG phone. What time will devs be like (this is the last day for this phone, no more ROMing from my side for this phone).
Is it
when Jelly Beans comes out? or
Keylime Pie makes an entrance? or
when 512 MB RAM just doesn't cut in any more.
long story short, when does the phone actually ends his life? Or it doesn't and ppl just move on before the phone dies on them.

Well, we can't really have CM9 support until we get the proper drivers.

I remember some windows mobile phones still get support... my wing still got support even when I had my vibrant, my my touch pro 2 still got support when I first got this phone.
I think it just depends on when devs move on to a new device basically. Sometimes a new dev will emerge and sometimes not. The older a phone gets the more likely it is that no new devs will pop up.

Not true at all, just look at the og g1 thread thats almost 4 years old and its still seeing plenty of new dev support. If anything the older the phone gets the cheaper it is to buy and thus support it.

Secondary phone to buy

Hello all,
I want to buy a new phone, because I always do some experiments to my G3 and don't have sometimes enough time to recover it from bootloop or something... I also don't want to leave G3 comunity because you're the best friends now
So I ask, which phone would you recommend to me? As daily driver... I would keep my g3 for developing and tweaking . My requirements are the same as for this phone + root-friendly (if you know what I mean ) + CM available for it... Also it shouldn't be as expensive as sgs3 or galaxy nexus, etc... It also should have bigger screen...
So, what do you guys think? I thought about byuing sgs i9000 as it has almost fully working JB...

hi buddy this is just my suggestion as quadcore phones are already there and getting better every day and single core phone are about to vanish so i feel it would be better if you think about dual core phone as it will not only provide your better performance that single core processor but also will be future proof and supported with future editions of android phones.

Thanks, so, I'm going to save some more money, I'm sure it will be worth it then. I also don't want to go for SGSII because it has MMC_CAP_ERASE bug :silly:
Galaxy nexus is amazing and the development on their forums is amazing although you probably wont need to flash any rom or root the phone because it is already awesome and no bloatware since its a nexus

Well, not fully agree
First - Nexus doesn't have slot for microsd card.
Secondly, the GPU is worse than the SII.
Thirdly - SII is more efficient.
Fourth - SII has better camera (8Mpix), Nexus - 5Mpix.
Nexus has higher screen resolution - 1280 × 720, but made in pentile technology.
Also, I'm wondering about these two phones, but more convinces me - Samsung Galaxy SII.
What do you think about Snapdragon S4 CPU and Adreno 225 CHIPSET? Just wondering how this will perform in Asus Padfone... I like the fact that this phone will get JB officially, but no forums here at xda...

Not yet, instead of it I have HP Probook 4540s as for the price of Galaxy S3 here in Czech Republic. It's for school now. I'm happy with it I'm now writing on this notebook. Perfect keyboard!
However, galaxy nexus will probably follow. I don't want the Nexus 4 for the "bad screen responsiveness" bug.
PS: I won't EVER sell my Galaxy 3! Love this phone

The pro book looks great and I also feel the same way about my g3 lol. I was thinking of getting a new phone but i decided to wait until marcelluse says if he's going to continue with cm10 development or any development on the g3. My parents gave me a tab 2 for Christmas so I'm not in a rush for a newer phone. I wished I could have donated to the devs for their work on the g3 for Christmas but I don't have a job I'm a student. I will try in the future
Happy new years by the way.

I have a Nexus 4 and the dev over there is amazing. Yes if the micro-sd card slot and removal battery is a bumper, then this phone isn't for you. I would suggest the S2 or the Note 1. The Asus Padfone is a good choice but it makes sense when you have the tablet as well as the phone.
PS My Nexus 4 dosen't have any bugs.

[Q] Ubuntu for LG P920

Hello i was Wondering if Any one are Gonna adapt the Ubuntu Phone Os to Our beloved LG O3D when it gets out?
Jeez, it was publicly announced just a couple of days ago.
No way you will ever have 3D capabilities on that ROM, by the way.

Only for Quad-core processors, read carefully...
Quads are recommended for full desktop experience only. Minimum is singlecore with 512 ram. Generally everything that runs android will run ubuntu phone too.

And yeah, your were still too early on this. We barely got 4.0.4 and now here you want a port of a Pre-released OS. Also 3D functions is still shady or might really not have.

MD5 files for the AT&T MF3 update important to the community!

I have access to the Samsung Smart tool used at Best Buys, and am able to copy these files. Would they be of importance to being able to flash a custom recovery?

Those files you see such as platform are the files we need to flash back go stock MF3. They are whats inside the all in one Odin tars. You should copy them and upload them online. I'm not sure why no body has posted or even noticed but they are the kies/Odin files we need. I see the mf3 bootloader and CSC and modem and platform which contains the stock recovery and system etc hence the md5 which is typically after platform.tar.md5.
Post them if you can. All the md5 files and we will be able to Odin back without best buy.
This just might be the best day of my life if you uploaded these

Can't say I've come across a bricked one as of yet, but does it still go into download mode? If so, they need to hit Alt + F10 to get into the recovery options, select Factory Recovery, and there should be a drop down box that will let you select I337 from there.
Unless the phone is hard bricked, won't stay powered on, or has a charging issue, the SMART Tool can be used 100% of the time. It will still be quite awhile before this finished the upload, so if that's faster for you, by all means.
Im hoping these will work for the bricked mf3 users! Excellent!

This is true due to blown qFuse correct? But I believe the motive behind these files (if, and when the OP delivers) is for current MF3 users to have a readily available means of recovering when things go south. While I'm not not necessarily technically inclined when it comes to the inner works of Android-devices isn't it possible if we get our hands on the actual bootloader we might be able to find a means to unlock it.
If we can get these files and open the bootloader, I will celebrate by giving you a virtual hug and handshake.

The bootloader is closed source. Samsung would have to get permission from AT&T to release the source for it. We would still not be able to reverse the blown Qfuse. We can go up, not down.

You can have all the hope you want. It doesn't change the situation. Many talented Developers have tried different methods including both software and hardware. That is why it is important to read about what has been done already. It doesn't mean that all hope should be abandoned, it just means that it is a waste of time re-visiting what has already been attempted. Modifying the Update to unlock the bootloader simply isn't going to work (without Samsung's signed and encrypted key) for more reasons than I have time to explain here. But like I said, those reasons have already been explained and it is very informative reading. Perhaps KNOX can be used to allow for alternative bootloader access, but it is really way to early to tell.
