[Q] Google framework + messaging + voice fails - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I was surfing Dolphin browser and my phone rebooted (as it does sometimes which is awesome) and when it rebooted here's a list of what won't work: google service framework, voice, messaging, Dolphin HD, and dialer. They will open for a sec and then force close with an error. If I try to call the phone it will ring, then phone has an error and then will force close and stop ringing.
The phone is rooted with VB. I tried rebooting several times and clearing caches of the programs that were failing to no avail. Other apps work just fine. Signal bars are grey saying it has no Google connectivity.
Thanks guys,
Jesse

Factory reset and reflash ROM.

Thanks for the fast response.
Is it anything I did that caused this or anything I can do to prevent this from happening again?

Don't think so. Thomas is was looking into it. It has happened to many of us - including me. I was on VB also when it happened.

What ROM are you on now? Might as well try something different for S&G.

I know you weren't asking me, but you should try unnamed. It seems to be more overlooked than others, but I find it outperforms vb. And with antonx kernel no reboots.

No random reboots sounds enticing...

Com.android.phone fc'ing

I'm currently running DB 3.0 rc3.
I'm consistently having com.android.phone. and com.android.messages fc'ing on me quite often. Ive done complete wipes, I've deleted anything Twitter, I've cleared the cache and data.
Is it possible to replace both of above to eliminate problems?
Thanks for any help guys and gals

Trying rebooting into recovery and fixing permissions.
You could always reflash the rom as well.

I've fixed permissions, and reflashed ROM. Is it a possibility on glitchy radio?
Ive also froze every app that has been downloaded to possibly isolate a crappy appy doing it.

Its possible. What rom and radio are you running?
I see yore running a gb rom. Try reflashing mr2 or mr2.5 radios. That and a fresh flash/full wipe should do it.

Dloading a fresh MR2, will double check md5, you have suggestion for good kernel, or one that just comes with DB 3.0 RC3?
Thanks for your help man
I'm having the exact same errors, both on 3.0 and the 2.1 remix with some 3.0 pieces. I don't know if it's gingerbread or not but it's super annoying. I mean I get netflix and some eye candy in terms of 3.0 but sacrifice the following:
Phone instability. Sometimes not being able to dial out OR accept calls and getting the android.phone FC is SUPER annoying. I even had to pull my battery on a few occasions.
Radio Issues. I never have 4g connection issues living near Seattle and now it fails all the time. My data completely turns off and sometimes I can't turn the mobile network back on other than restarting (using a 2.5 radio)
Streaming Issues. Namely Skyfire no longer streams vids. Don't know if it's simply coincidence or GB doesn't like it. Did read lots of other posts about people having streaming issues tho with Google Music, etc.
I like GB but if all these are the compromises, I'll be going back to Froyo today.

Update: still having fc's specifically phone. I have done a full wipe, fresh ROM dload, fresh radio, only stock apps. No CPU enhancements. No themeing. All md5s verified.

At this point I would flash back to stock. Using Jcase's thread, it's one of the stickies in development.

I had the same problem before, did some searching and found that it was a glitch with peep syncing. Didn't set up peep on the BAMF 3.0 builds and haven't had a single problem. Perhaps you still have some lingering peep stuff and that's causing it (even after a wipe) If you've never touched peep, them I dunno. Just telling you what seemed to fix my phone after the same error.
I'm having the same problem. Tried doing fix permissions in CWM. Never touched Peep. Anyone know if it is a radio problem? I'm using the MR2. Problem occurring on the MR2.5?
I know you said you deleted everything Twitter. But just to make sure, did you unlink your contacts from Twitter. So think of a contact that you call or calls you and you get the FC, look at thier contact info and make sure Twitter for Sense isn't linked.
I'm having the same errors. Do you think using Titanium Backup to freeze Peep and Twitter would help solve the problem?
I had the same issue when i first flashed GB. It showed up after using TiBu to restore apps and app data.
I wiped data and reflashed the rom, and then re-downloaded apps and only used TiBu to restore data for saved games and I haven't received a phone FC since. Hope this helps.

Gmail don't work after ICS upgrade.

Since I did the update to ICS on my Transformer, my gmail app stopped working. Now when I load it, it appears for a second then the screen goes black and I find myself on my homescreen.
I've uninstalled the app and cleared data. Neither worked.

Same thing happened to me..then after about a month it started working again. I figured there was probably some email that was giving it issues, until enough time passed that it stopped trying that particular one.
Maybe try deleting (or moving) the messages that came in right before it stopped working? (via gmail.com)
I'll look at the specific emails but don't see how that should effect anything. Worth a shot.

there's another post here about maps, and people there were having issue with gmail too.
when i did a logcat when gmail error out and fc, it was telling me openGL out of memory?.
i'm on team EOS ICS stable. so your not the only one having issues with gmail. and it doesnt seem like a ROM issue too, cause each one of them was using a different ROM.
i hope this get cleared up soon

Yes I hope they can get this cleared up as well. I haven't rooted it and it was working before I did the update to ICS. Other than the Gmail issue, I haven't had any other problems since I updated. However this is a big issue for me because I use Gmail so much and having to use a browser to access it is becoming a real pain.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Well I got it to work! I did a factory reset and gmail is working perfectly. Now that I think about it, it makes sense. I should have done this sooner. I hope this can help others who have the same or similar issues.

Mine did not work the other day too.. it just crash and return to homescreen..
I just clear cache in settings - apps - gmail and it start working again perfectly.. no need factory reset and no need reboot..

It's been always working for me, except occasional issues specifically related to CM10. (Netflix tends to be the worst-case stress test for AOSP firmwares.)
There was one case where it would just crash on startup - clearing data fixed that.
Mine is working, even after accidentily updating. From what i've read, i won't update on my sgs3 because it takes away LTE/4G viewing and you can now only view in wifi mode. If this is incorrect please someone correct me.
It used to work very well, however lately I can open the app, search for the show i wanna watch, but when I touch it to select it, it just sits there, doing nothing. The app doesn't freeze, as I can back out of the search, but it just doesn't let me load the seasons/episodes.

I actually had this happen on my gray version. I quit the application (force close if i had to) and restarted. When netflix started it would be in portrait mode, but then it would play in landscape

Cache cleaned, removed and reinstalled updates, nothing helps. It was fine until the 9/6 update. Great.
Mine works fine too... maybe its time to factory reset if the problem persist and hope it fixes it.

Thanks, but no. I'd rather live without search until they do the next update.
Hi guys,
I totally forgot about "Delete Data" option ... relogged in and everything works lovely! thanks.

open Netflix after the update, and go into settings to uncheck the option for "Wifi only"
Oddly enough, Netflix won't let me search/watch sons of anarchy. Every other search seems fine. Not sure what that's about...

[Q] why does Facebook only want to work over WiFi?

I'm having the most random issue no matter the ROM. On LTE I usually hit 40mbp/s down and 15mbp/s up and every single app uses this just fine...except for Facebook. I have to use WiFi for Facebook otherwise only about %25 of whatever page I'm on loads. The WiFi in the house is 3/1.5 so nowhere near as fast as LTE. I've installed a few different ROMs, tried uninstalling and reinstalling Facebook to no avail. Any ideas?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I think it's Facebook I have had the same problem also with you tube but it's alittle better now
stripped apart rebuilt with Clean Rom&XdaTechnology!!!
I am having this exact same issue. Facebook only works on WiFi. If I am on 4G I get tons of authentication issues. Only half of my news feed and profile will load on 4G. I have used Odin and went back to stock, uninstalled/reinstalled Facebook, and tried different radios. I called Verizon about this and they have no idea what is wrong. They are supposed to send the issue to the network team and then call me back.
I did notice that Facebook thinks I am in Cheyenne, WY instead of Pittsburgh, Pa. If you log into Facebook on a computer you can look at your active sessions. It shows devices and locations. If I log in while on WiFi it reports that I am in Pittsburgh.
This is a very bizarre issue. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing the issue? It seems like a network issue to me.

Tinfoil for Facebook works fine, give it a shot.

I've got no issue with Facebook working over LTE/ mobile data. Maybe its an issue with the service in your area? If you haven't maybe try clearing the apps cache/data and relog back in
** well I reread and it seems like uninstalling reinstall should do the same thing so no idea other than it being your area mine works fine (version 2.1)

Unfortunately that did not work. I am leaning towards a network issue on the vzw side of things since it works fine on WiFi. Thanks though!

Honestly, the FB app is utter garbage and drains battery like no other. It's gotten a tad better recently, but your best bet is likely just going to http://m.facebook.com

It absolutely is, but I would much rather find a solution. I like using the app much better than using the mobile site. Plus the technician in me needs to figure this out because it is driving me nuts

Att visual voicemail for CM10.1,AOKP, and others

ATT Visual Voicemail came out with an update on 4/24/13 which updated it to finally work with CM10.1, AOKP and all others. It doesnt hang on pin number screen now.

Ill have to test this and if so, its back to CM for me.
Additionally, does anyone know why it doesn't like CM much?
Ups: indeed it works.

Still not working...
Hi all; sorry to necro an old thread, but I'm running an i-727 Skyrocket with CM10.1 RC5 on AT&T, and I still can't get the visual voice mail to work. It still hangs at the PIN screen.
I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, all combinations of rebooting, and even clearing the cache. I used TB to bring app data over from ICS when I flashed CM10.1, but I haven't had any other problems regarding this so far.
Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Has it ever worked for you stock? Maybe not provisioned?
