[Q] Huge problem with NEW phone. - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hello guys ! Recently I ordered a brand new unlocked ONE X S720e phone and I think I have a big problem here.
Phone would not just turn on. If I set USB charger I am getting this screen:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now if I try to do factory reset or try to go in recover I am getting RED message saying: This build is for developing purposes only, do not distribute outside HTC without HTC's written permission. Failure to comply may lead to legal action.
So what exactly I got myself into ? It sure looks some dev model to me, now question is what do I do to make it work normally ?
Here is video of this message.

That's definitely not brand new. What do you mean by 'unlocked'?. Is it carrier unlocked, or bootloader unlocked? Because what you have is a phone that was bootloader unlocked and then relocked. Not brand new. Used or tampered with in the process of being made. Most probably used. Unless the seller meant to say it was bootloader unlocked, you have a used phone, or at least one that has been tampered with. If your intention was for this phone to be CARRIER unlocked, ie. work all around the world on different cellular networks, you got what you didn't want, you got a BOOTLOADER unlock. If this is the case, I would recommend returning it or asking the seller to explain themselves. Before you take my advice though, wait for other replies for verification, but you should probably return it.
And also, this is the AT&T/Rogers HTC One X thread. You have an international HTC One X. Different part of the forum.

That's definitely a used phone. Someone bought it, unlocked the bootloader, decided they didn't want it for whatever reason, relocked the bootloader and shipped it back. Definitely send it back and get a new one. If you decide on keeping it, just run a RUU and you'll be fine, assuming there are no physical problems with it.
Also, that is the international One X, this forum is for the AT&T, Rogers, And Telstra One XL. Different phone.

Thank you very much, unfortunately I can't send it back and it looks absolutely new never opened or even used. That RUU, if possible can u provide link to app or post i need ?
Once again Thank you very much.

Why can't you send it back? Did you buy it from a legitimate seller?
Here's the thread for all the RUUs for the International One X. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1543604

edit: nvm, this is the international model
Even if there isnt anything physically wrong with it, there still might be something you cant see like battery life that sucks or something.
Send it back immediately and show them/explain to them what happened.
HTC can't seriously expect to pull this kind of BS.

Is Endeavor is another name for One X ? And out of over 50 roms I see in that link what do I use ? I am sorry guys this is totally new for me I am Samsung user and rooter. If possible can you please provide name or link of a tool I guess will be similar to ODIN to reflash this HTC with rom stock or not I do not care. Because I just looked and that forum for over 40 pages and I am still clueless on what to do here. My main goal is to get this thing to work.
Thank you.
I do understand that this is for att and stuff but I am sure tools used for all different versions are the same and only roms and rooting files are different ,,,,

Yes, Endeavor is the codename for your phone, just like Evita is the codename for ours. The link in the OP of the thread I provided has a bunch of RUUs (ROM Update Utility) which are like self contained Odins. You run it on your PC and connect your phone and it brings you back to stock. As far as which one you need, I'm not really sure. I would post in that thread and ask. I'd imagine one of the UK ones would be fine, just make sure the radio version is the same as yours (1.1204.90.13).

Wrong, they are different the One X as you have is international has a quad core, the One XL is not and runs a dual core. Look for a RUU or stock Rom thread on the other forum. A RUU is similar to Odin.
Sent from my HTC One XL using Tapatalk 2

I see so that RUU is all I'll need as long I have proper vesion of it ! In that case how do I find out what version I have to post it in proper forum ?
I mean I have a box here and well I see all information , where do I look exactly what RUU will be compatible with my phone ?
I see PArt number is : 99HRL061-00
and SCU is: 4710937375633
and yeah it's quad core 1.5Ghz

Just post in the thread that I linked you to. This forum is for a completely different phone than yours. Here is the right forum for you- http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1533

If you see a date above imei number, this means sim unlock code not available. The "second method" refers to an alternative for Sensation users only, doesn't work on DS unfortunately.

I see only a date too . Is there any other way to do this? Vodafone is charging 50 euros for unlocking, which I find unacceptable.
Anyone find anything useful on this topic? Is there any way to replicate the method 2 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232107 on our device? Perhaps with a PG88DIAG.nbh file?

As Vodafone probably sold the phone (locked) for a very low price, I don't see that as unacceptable, maybe you can't afford it, but that doesn't mean Vodafone is doing anything "wrong".

The phone was, in fact, bought at a reasonably lower cost due to it being part of a deal for a new subscription, and I'm not saying that they shouldn't charge money for unlocking it, because it's well within their rights to do so. It seems to me, though, that this fee is much higher than what is regularly charged for this service (from what I read on these forums / asked other people).
Whatever the cost, though, being able to do it for free is better than having to pay for it . That's the reason why I asked about the method 2 from the Sensation forum. It seems to me that we would only need the .nbh file appropiate for our device (a PG88DIAG.nbh instead of PG58DIAG.nbh), but I don't know where anyone would obtain such a file, In any case, it's something worth researching. I only wish I were more experienced with this sort of hacking / exploiting, perhaps someone more capable than me can look into it.
There was a thread with some technical document about our DS here. The source was a Chech website for mobile phone diagnostic and repair. I think there was a Diag file among the other downloads. You can search for it
EDIT: I have typed PG88DIAG.nbh in Google and got pretty much hits

I wonder if it's the right file or if the people on the Sensation forum modified it somehow to suit their needs. I tried using one of the PG88DIAG.nbh files I found here on XDA, but after following the exact instructions from the Sensation thread, my phone got stuck on "Error writing CID" (or something). It could have been because of the HBOOT (I was using the 0.98.2000 ENG HBOOT) and I could try it again on revolutionary's S-OFF HBOOT, the thread mentioned it needs radio S-OFF, i'm not sure if it has that.
I found another solution to this, and a Desire S owner in the threaed claims that it worked for him (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1681145).
However, in my case it didn't work, My guess is because of the way Vodafone locks their handsets, which seems to be different than the way HTC locks them. Oh well, back to the Internet for more solutions. I hope this one helps some of you.

Desire S doesn't have radio S-OFF.
The most convenient way to achieve full (radio) S-OFF and SIM unlock on Desire S would be to build a Froyo kernel that will run on it and allow executing ADB daemon. It doesn't need to boot Android, just to run. But it's something that a good kernel developer is required for.
Given such kernel, Desire S owners could use gfree.

But you need a whitecard or at least a whitecard emulator like the XTC Clip to do those things
And oh, if you are from germany, I could help you for free as I own a XTC Clip.
If you need those files from the polish website, just ask me, I've downloaded the SAGA section and could upload it if neccesary

Unfortunately I'm no where near Germany right now, and I doubt I'll find a helpful XTC Clip owner in Romania, so I decided I'll just give the money to Vodafone and get it over with. I want to gift this phone for Christmas to someone who's on Orange, so I'll just go ahead and pay up. Thanks for the offer though
Well for 50€ you could also buy an XTC clip and you could unlock nearly every HTC device then
They are sending it via FedEx express btw
I'll keep that in mind, thanks for the info

[Q] Does BlackJelly Rom work on Verizon S3?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1883845
does this rom work with the verizon s3? I could not find it in Verizon thread. The ROM looks great so far.
No. Do not flash ROMs from other carriers on your phone. It WILL result in a brick.
Covered many times...please search next time.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
It actually wouldnt brick your device as the rom doesnt flash any radios. It might not boot, but it wouldnt brick it. The ATT version of the rom (which is based off the tmo leak) works unmodified (kernel and all) with the tmo version. I have a version in both the ATT and TMO forums and the rom is exactly the same except for the model number in the build.prop. However, I'm not sure it will work on the CDMA variant.

Like what graffixnyc said, the only differences are in the build.prop. Just add the CDMA specific values to the build.prop in BlackJelly (be sure to remove the GSM stuff). Also, take the apns-conf.xml from one of our ROMs like Synergy or CleanROM and replace the one in BlackJelly. That should get you booting.

I'd say just stay away from the ROMs in the i9300 forums. But even those wouldn't give you a hard brick. I know...I've purposely tried to do it by installing Omega and Foxhound.
Thank you for clarifying guys.

Even so I'd be really careful saying that. Someone may read that and think it's fine to flash stuff from other threads while in fact it is really dangerous. The OP only has a few posts so this may apply to him too (no offense, there are some people who read on here all the time and just don't bother with an account until they need to, I'm just sayin)
Hey guys,
I just ported over the BlackJelly ROM the OP requested and will be posting it here for people to use. Since I am pretty much caught up in other projects, both IRL and on XDA (AOSP), this ROM won't be receiving much support as I'd like to give it so I welcome anyone to take the port and make it better. And please, no smartass comments like this:

Android is open source for a reason and you made something that's amazing and I for one really appreciate it. Maybe the haters should get back in the kitchen and try to release something that even comes close to this. Keep up the good work and thanks a lot.

HOWEVER, if you do want me to support it fully by abandoning other XDA projects and provide updates on the original developer's behalf, let me know. Of course, I will only provide full support if graffixnyc is okay with me doing it.
The build WILL most likely have bugs, some major, some minor, but that is for everyone to fix. I think this will be a good learning tool as well. Oh and if you already weren't aware, you can use kernels from the other carriers. AFAIK, the kernels are common among all carriers (not including the international kernels) so flash away!
Before we get to the download link, MAJOR props and thanks to graffixnyc for BlackJelly ROM. It's great!

I imagine you changed the update-script in it then. The partition difference would brick you for sure. I know several of the two and a half bagillion people that hard bricked did it with omega specifically. And why would you try to brick these. Unless you have a jtag setup or something i don't see the point

I didn't change them. I may have been lucky or something, but I kept the ROM as is and installed it and didn't end up with a hard brick. Regardless, moral of the story is to stay away from i9300 ROMs unless someone makes a successful port.
I was trying to brick the phone for testing purposes.

[Q] How to downgrade my Desire s from ICS back to GB

Hey all im new to posting here so if I have posted in the wrong section I do apologise in advance also im not very technically minded when it comes to Android so if i seem quite newbish please don't hate, I recently upgraded my desire s to ICS using HTC ruu becuase vodaphone UK where taking the absolute mick in rolling out the ICS update so i did it myself but now i want to re root my phone but am unable to find any infomation on how to root a ICS desire s the only info i can come up with is if i am on gingerbread so i see no alternative then downgrading back to GB to root my phone i have a gingerbread vodaphone uk kernal but have no idea how to flash my phone with it so i was wondering if anyone could help me either root my ICS desire s or downgrade my desire s back to GB so then i can root it easily cheers for the help in advance

which lead to this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1876188&page=4
reading the index thread is highly recommended before proceeding as to know what is it exactly u are doing at each step.
I agree that ubadito should have read and make sure he understood what he was doing and where he was going before blindly proceeding to flash the ICS RUU. Too many people go headfirst into flashing a RUU or a custom ROM without asking themselves a minimum set of questions and make sure they have the answers before proceeding : Will I loose my data, and how to avoid it if I don't want to ? Will I be able to go back to my previous ROM in case of problems with the new one ? Will I loose my warranty ? What is the best path to follow for me ?
I sometimes think that SimonTS is a bit rude with is answers, but I must agree with him on the substance of is message. If there were less people asking the same basic questions again and again it would be easier for everyone to find the information they are looking for instead of wasting time reading the same questions again and again.
That said, @ubadito you can indeed gain root without having to go back to GB first. Here are the steps to follow :
- HTCdev unlock your bootloader. This is now mandatory for you as your on ICS ; even if you'd want to go back to GB you'd have to unlock your hboot. You had the choice to S-OFF without HTCdev unlock before flashing the ICS RUU but now it's too late and, if your DS is still under warranty, you will loose it.
- flash 4ext recovery by using fastboot ; you can use 4ext Recovery Updater in order to download the recovery image on your DS, but it won't be able to install it. You'll have to copy it on your PC and flash it with fastboot.
- flash SuperSU from 4ext recovery.
You'll then be able to get root access on your DS and modify your build.prop in order to correct the link issue.
All those steps are explained in detail on XDA. All you have to do is read the stickies and make sure you understand before going on.

You've only been a member here for a month so I really don't think that you are in a position to do something like that - I quite willingly take criticism from some of the people on here (they are well aware who they are) and admit when I am wrong.
I have had enough of trying to point people in the right direction when they refuse to search or read first. I'll leave it for all the recent comers to the forum who haven't got annoyed enough yet with the same repeated questions over and over again, or who actually feel that they look good by getting a "Thanks" on their meter.
I will continue to attempt to help those who have a genuine question which couldn't be answered quickly by searching, but the others can flounder in whatever mess they get themselves into as far as I'm concerned.
When I first joined XDA it was to assist in gaining S-Off and root on my DS - back then the only way to achieve this was with a piece of hardware called an XTC-Clip - and if you didn't follow the instructions perfectly and know/understand EXACTLY what you were doing then you were almost guaranteed to end up with a brick. I didn't go posting stupid questions or asking people to tell me step-for-step what I had to do. I read the stickies, read the threads, found out what the pitfalls were, what I needed to prepare in advance, what might happen, how to get round it - and then after about 3 weeks of solid reading I went ahead and gained S-Off and root with no problems.
There are some really good people on the DS forums still, but the majority have moved on to new devices, as I have. I despair for the future of XDA if the current trend continues - it's not just on the DS forums, but is widespread across the entire site and the Mods don't seem to be willing/able to clamp down and do what should be done to prevent this place destroying itself.
I didn't mean to offend you. My apologies if I did. As I tried to say I agree with you and I really appreciate your contributions. English is not my mother tongue and I may have used inappropriate words.

[S-OFF] DirtyRacun S-OFF - HTC Butterfly J KDDI (Deluxe_j) - HBOOT 1.39 ONLY!

Please see our Website for Instructions and Downloads:
http://unlimited.io
We have released the Racuns!
Support:
Update regarding Windows versions of our tools:
Team Unlimited has decided to drop all support for the Windows OS. This is due to massive amounts of trolling on forums and in our support channel as well as flamming us for our decision to not support Windows 8 or any version of Windows 64bit.
We attempted to explain to anyone who had questions why this was not supported - drivers are unreliable, percentage of risk for bricking was too high, and just general complications - but we were greeted with people who demanded support and others that came into our support # to tell us that "clearly we didn't test 64bit because it works" and "wanted to let us know that we could support 64bit."
We want to make it clear that we make these tools with our free time, for free, for you - our users. We made a decision to provide clear and concise directions and a live support channel. We can revoke all or part of this at any time and will should people become abusive to our team members.
To receive realtime support for S-OFF please visit our IRC channel If you do not have an IRC client you can use this link.
If you need help we highly suggest coming to our IRC #, we do not monitor this thread as much as we keep an eye on our IRC #. If you run into an error you will need to come to # for quick response and help - quick response may save your device!
Using how-to guides, "kits" and using other instructions on XDA to S-OFF your device is not recommended and will not be supported by Team Unlimited. If you want the best experience and results - go direct to the source. Dealing with support issues through the forums is inefficient and posts may get lost in long support threads, of which we would have too many to actively monitor. We have therefore decided that all support should be through our IRC channel. This will allow us to help you in real-time and through the whole process.

Currently no, bear in mind that the Japan version of this phone was released before all other markets and we have not yet had time to examine any of the international variants.
Nice! Thank you, for helping me get s-off while in testing.

don't think it's a leak but stock ruu for tw and hk have a link in the forum, I believe, but it is labeled ics in ruu download, havn't tried to use it yet
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2073430
edit i'm no dev and others now say it's fake
edit It's gotta be an old ruu i'm on hboot 1.40 and that one on the site(i'm guessing from the ruu) is 1.17, no luck
I think I've aquired the leaked ruu for asia wwe x920d, currently downloading will post in 46min if all goes well (got it on tw site, but they are having error with cid)(they think they need to super cid to use it) and it has a zip extention, but looks the right size and name
Here is the asia wwe ruu renamed as as zip (I believe) Hope this helps
pulled link bc of dropbox traffic pm me in 3 days if you need it guys/gals
edit here is that guys fix i checked the md5 sum, it matched, used zip 2 fix to fix corruption. He said he used the file successfully by renaming the .zip file to PL99IMG.zip and relocking his bootloader and copying to sd and rebooting here is the fixed .zip
pulled link bc of dropbox traffic pm me in 3 days if you need it guys/gals
(if you are not a member of the s-off unlimited io team please do not dl would like them to receive this)
also here are two update files for asia/tw x920d (both contain hboot.img files in firmware.zip in these zip files) :fingers-crossed:
first is older but run in sequence of updating
pulled link bc of dropbox traffic pm me in 3 days if you need it guys/gals
2nd is latest ota I think
pulled link bc of dropbox traffic pm me in 3 days if you need it guys/gals

fuses said that s-off like they did on the j version will probably work on our device(I linked him some ota files and the leaked ruu I found) but he said he was very busy with other stuff (we all have our regular lives to lead) and it will take him a while to get at it.:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

Please thank the fine people that have put these threads togather for you.
Thank you so much.
Seeing as this is Pinned and I See no point in creating a thread just to get it lost in the Cluster.
if you want to add this
All_IN_ONE.zip - 22.59 MB
To the OP for resources
its a zip containing drivers/recoveries/adb.exe/fastboot.exe and most importantly a nice script to allow end user to do anything booting different recovery, flashing different recovery, reboot tools, and steps and links on how to Root and S-Off
If you feel its useful add to OP, if not no hard feelings.

Yes please! I need this as well.
Asked in another thread and got a response from someone saying to get back to stock recovery you "do the same thing you did to get the custom recovery, just use the stock image instead".
Not so helpful without a link to a stock recovery image
Still hoping to find this somewhere.

Look through QBKings videos found here. Please note, his videos, on the M8, are all listed in the black box on the right.
All of his videos regarding the M8 can be found in this link. You may find what you need in his tutorials.
To unbox:
MOD edit: This thread is for videos on helpful how to's for this device. A unboxing video is nothing more then a review of the device.
Great Information
:good:
I'm wondering if "how to videos" that discuss rooting, custom recoveries, custom ROMs, etc. should also include a warning about accepting OTA updates?
Lots of Galaxy S3 and S4 users unknowingly accepted OTA updates to find their phones were now hopelessly locked down and no custom recoveries could be installed.
I personally believe ALL carriers want their phones locked down securely and do NOT want anyone to be able to mod a phone in any way and with this belief comes the thought that any phone such as the M8 will sooner or later receive an OTA that will lock the bootloader.
A warning about OTAs couldn't hurt anything...
Hi ppl, looking into how to threads, I am still looking for a way to disable SIM from unknown source msg on my m8, how can I do that?
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using XDA Free mobile app
I saw a video about flashing to the Google play version of this device. Is there a link or instructions on here about that? And does anyone know whether it would even work since there's been an update since then?
I don't see a how to for removing the red text on boot up?
