Alright, I need a rom that's stable, and not too sluggish. I swear I've looked at numerous different roms, I just want to know your personal opinions on what you're using. I don't need a bunch of fancy features, just a rom that works and isn't too laggy.
It all pretty much depends on your preference. I can't recommend sense roms since I'm not a big sense fan but I hear newSENSE is a good rom that has a lot of "CM like" features. Then there's strapped's roms which I hear is another fav of many people. For aosp there's some on rom manager and a few here on xda as well including cm7.2.0 Stable which cyanogenmod just released (also on rom manager).

Before there was a somewhat stable ICS rom, my go-to rom was always CM7.
It's extremely light imo.
I've tried strapped's supreme sense rom for a couple of days, it was a really great rom, just liked ics too much to stick with it.
Newsense was also a great rom, but it wasnt my taste.
As Sparksco stated, it's all a matter of preference. Strapped has one of the best analogies I've ever heard. He said something like " it's like buying sneakers, everyone's taste is different. Because we all use them differently. " The best thing to do is to try various Roms. Flash one try it for a few days, at least. See if it suits you . Also read up on the Rom before you Flash. Make sure it has the things you need it to have, or what it lacks that you can't do without.
Thanks for the replies guys, your advice really is appreciated! I'mma be sure to head off and frolic more in the awesome community that is this forum

Highly recommend newsense.
AOSP = CM 7.2 (on rom manager) SENSE = newSENSE (in the development section)

I was using Cognition 2.3. The home screen was simpler and has a sleeker look. The app screen was the same. Why does Cog 4 seem like a jump back to my Stock Rom. Maybe I'm just stupid???? lol
Because, you know, it IS a jump back to stock ROM?
Captivate, XDA Premium, Cyanogenmod
whats the point?
why release a new version that is less impressive than its predecessor? Doesn't make whole hell of a lot of sense to me. But again maybe I'm just stupid.
DG's whole point with Cog 4/4.1/4.1.1, is to try to keep it looking and running as stock as possible. Everything that was pre Cog 4 already had an ass ton of themes that were compatible and DG started incorporating them into the ROM's.
DG has a life, so don't jump his nuts and complain about him pushing out a boring ROM. For free. Nobody told you to flash it, and there's plenty of other ROM's out there. Or you can just switch back to your previous ROM.

+1 He even says that he tries to keep it as stock as possible all ROMS have their differences its all about your own personal preference.

I love ALL these custom ROMS I can't seem to keep the same one for more than a week, the only ones that I have been able to kep for long are Cognition and Serendipity.
Cognition 4.1 is meant for people like me that wan custom r o m,but wan it to look like stock 1
I don't think he meant boring like a bad job. Once some themes are ported then everyone should be happy. You can't knock the performance or smoothness of cognition. It will work and be consistent. Maybe it is boring in the fact that you can run it and forget you even have a custom rom going. That's because DG is that good. Thanks again!

Cognition may be boring for some but I need my phone to work and so far it gives me the best balance of features and reliability.

Cognition isn't as much a rom as it is a rooted, debloated, stock setup. Couple theme improvements like extended power. Using a voodoo enabled kernel. It is a setup one could achieve if they updated to kb1 on their own relatively easy.

I liked Cog too, but wanted something different than stock. That's why I loved perception, but its discontinued now. Perception 10.4 is a solid rom, stable, fast, and has that slight aosp feel.
Ultimately I went to FireFly. I love it. I how easy they made it to customize. It comes with an app that will showcase and download the other battery's and dialers. I sometimes feel like I need to enable the lagfix, but haven't yet.

Two posts in the forum and you've managed to criticize the excellent work of one of the most prolific ROM cookers on XDA solely based on your ignorance of what DG does and why. You might want to create a new account and start over. Knocking a guy's work that he provides for free is just bad juju.
I think he can leave his screen name alone. He did not say anything offensive just asked an honest question.

It was an ignorant question, not an honest one. I wasn't in here long before I knew what DG's ROMs are about. Cog 4.x is all about providing a ROM that is as close to stock Froyo as possible without all the bloatware and just a few tweaks to provide better peformance. The kind of things most users who don't want to mess with themed ROMs or exotic kernels want. And criticizing the work that someone provides for free is just wrong whether it makes sense to him or not. I can see knocking a dev for putting out a shoddy product, but with all the choices in ROMs available in here for the Cappy it makes no sense to knock one just bcause you find it "boring."

Beat me to it.
I personally like CM7 stable release, raw performance and good on battery life if you use ScaryKernel stable...
Cyanogenmod 7 is the best.
Personally I like MikMik roms. Cuz I love sense
I'll give you the answer that I got. If you like Sense, there's MikShifted and Supreme Sense (which is based on MikShifted). If you're not that interested in Sense, CM7 is pretty awesome. I run it on my Nook, and really like it. I've got MikShifted on my phone right now and it's pretty sweet, too.
You pretty much have a choice of CyanogenMod 7, MiUI, and a Sense based roms like Supreme Sense and MikShifted-G. I love CM7, but so far MikShifted-G has been treating me a little better.
Thank you guys. I have heard a lot of good about mikshifted-g. Can someone shoot me the link for download and instructions on the full root? Using visionary if that matters. May want to try cyanogen 7 too
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
I have found Miui to be my favorite, its much different than the other roms, offers lots of customization, has wireless and usb tether built in as well as many other settings that you don't find defaulted into other roms. It has been running flawlessly for me with Pershoot V8 kernel set at 1.8 on Conservative. I'm thrilled with it.

Anything AOSP for me I'm not a huge fan of the flashyness of Sense.
So I'm no stranger to rooting and flashing roms. What I am pretty new to is being a father. Best thing that has ever happened to me.
But with being a father and having full time job I now don't have the spare time I used to have. So with that said, I'm just curious if someone who has used the different roms could give me their personal opinions on which they think are better ones to flash. I just don't have the time to flash them one by one and try them out.
So..... what are your guys opinions? I can tell you from my phone flashing experiences that I like clean, optimized, speedy and a little themed look. I currently run Cyanogenmod 7.2 RC on my Tmobile Vibrant.

Do you want Cornerstone or no?
That should narrow it down a lot.
Only two ICS ROM I used extensively were the Team Eos and now AOKP.
For me both was very stable. Theý're both AOSP rom and not Asus base.
Cornerstone isn't a must for me. I know it still has its issues.
I do think id like AOSP / aokp
If the AOKP is like Romans usual builds I know I'd like it

After owning my Skyrocket for a couple months, I'm finally ready to take the plunge and install a new ROM. I saw the how-to guide, so I should be set there, but I'm a little overwhelmed by the number of ROM's available here for the Skyrocket. It seems like Cyanogen is a popular one, but there are so many options! Would you all mind pointing me to a couple of the better ones to research further or tryout?
I'm coming from the stock Skyrocket ROM with WidgetLocker for the ICS lockscreen and have no complaints with the GUI, but then again I'm open to change since I don't know what's out there. My primary concerns are speed and reliability, however if there are new features that people find particularly valuable, I would like to hear about them. It doesn't sound like the ICS mods are stable enough yet, but if there are any ROMs in the works I should keep an eye on, I would be glad to know know about them.
Thanks for the help!
x2 I would be interested in what people have to say.
I recommend Embryo rom for reliability. It is very stable, but there's not a lot of themeing so it looks stock.
If you are after a feature-rich rom, try Sky ICS. It even has stuff from the Galaxy S3. It looks good with all the themes and add-ons available.
Embryo is a good into to ICS roms. Sky ICS is feature rich but might be a little overwhelming at first. CM9 is really good if you want an AOSP experience.
Cool, thanks for the feedback. I'll look into those. Any idea how they are for stability?
I'm having a really good experience with NexusMod. Not ICS, though.

I'm running seanzscreams latest build SKYICS 4.2E-8 (ULCE2) rom. Very fast, solid, dependable (been running it for a week so far). Has lots of customizations available. I noted approx 15-20% increase of battery life since GB.
Any of the Alien Builds are great. Especially the one for GB. But as the posts above say, SKYICS for features. If you're going to an ICS ROM, I suggest you use the one click first.

Back on nexusmod anyway... ICS is starting to remind me of Windows ME or vista. Meh... it works ok, I guess, but the last version is so much better!
ICS feels so bloated compared to GB. Even AFTER I debloat it!

>I'm not looking for kernel compatibility, which ROM is the fastest, just the ROM alone.

But no question you can narrow your search down to AOSP ROMs.

I'm an AOSP guy personally, but I do greatly appreciate your input!
theres an entire original development section here. do some research and find what works best for you and what you need out of a rom.
being fast isnt a valid criteria.
nobody can answer this question except for you. put in a little effort, do some learning/reading, itll serve you well.

I'm really just looking to see what others experiences have been, I've had my fair share of ROMs on this thing. Not as many stock, as I always felt they were slower, but still, plenty.
I also have done PLENTY of reading, hence the reason why I have never had to make a post before, I find my questions answers in my reading.
So I take offense to your comment ddurand. I'd like personal preference and input, not criticism on my research techniques.
everyones phone works differently. you just need to try things and see what you like and what fits you best.
theres threads all over like this with comparisons. heres another good one besides the one posted above (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2030478)
asking for peoples personal opinion will net you 10+ different roms to try.
dont take it too seriously, im just trying to help.
its just how it works. you need to flash ROMs to see what works best on your phone.
I think nottas paranoid android is a great candidate. Other than the pie interface and hybrid ui stuff, it's basically AOSP. It's also compiled with linaro. I think the minimal features really help keep it smooth and fast.
