I was searching through Amazon and found this battery by Hyperion. Anyone willing to test it? I would, but my Mugen and my Qcell are good enough for me.

Too bad the shipping is $4.49 and it's not a Prime eligible item or i'd be all over it...

If I had not just ordered one of those 2450 mAh "Gold" batteries, I would jump all over this. My only issue is the need for a bump in the cover. I know it isn't huge, but it still adds extra thickness and just doesn't look as nice.
Once again, if you don't want a phone that you know is in your hand or case and will break on the slightest impact, get an iPhone.

iPhone is a "piece of art" Hence, in theory it may be a phone too, but as a "piece of art" it supposed to be stared at, not used...
Good find with this battery, blackknightavalon!

I had some "Hyperion" battery (assuming it is the same brand?) for one of my old phones and it worked fine.
I may buy it, however it won't fit into my holster or my "night table stand" (dock) anymore... gotta think about it.
Certainly price is excellent.

Just remember my criticism of the Qcell battery. That one may last as long as a Mugen but sudden, violent shakes causes it to fall off the leads. Buyer beware.
Just Ordered Two
Hey everyone, been reading these boards for a long time, first time posting. Awesome site, very informative. I just rooted my 4g Slide with CM9 and after two days of relatively fast battery drain, have ordered two of these. Once they arrive, I can let you all know how they turn out. Any recommendations for a good screenshot tool?
EDIT: Nevermind, CM9 has a screenshot tool built in, just found it.

Thanks, I'll check it out.
New batteries came in yesterday, I took some pictures that I'll post later but they're at home right now As a comparison, they're about twice as thick as the OEM batteries so they're going to add some weight to your phone. So far after 4 hours, made one phone call, checked my FB app a few times (Friendcaster) and my weather app but haven't done a whole lot more, the battery is down to 92% which is much better than the OEM running CM9 where I'd probably be down to around 70% by now. I'm not looking for a miracle, just hoping the charge will last me the day.
If anyone can let me know how to post these pics in the message instead of uploading as an attachment, it would be a help. I'm being asked for a URL...am I supposed to upload the pic to another site first?

I upload my pics to photobucket, then copy the image code and paste it in whatever thread I am responding to.
Technically this is $15. Shipping is $5 and at the end of the day, that's still $$$ out of your pocket. OP should update the title

Nope. The battery itself is still $10. The prices never include the shipping.

Ok, so being a newbie to this site, I'm not allowed to post outside links until I get to 10 so they're attached instead. Found out the hard way that I can't post links yet...
Here's a size comparison with the OEM and the Hyperion. As you can see, they're double the size. Despite the bulky size, this battery has done me well for the last few days. I keep pretty much everything turned on (data, gps, wifi, bluetooth).
Some stats from the other day when I first got the batteries. 19+ hours uptime, did some texting, made a few calls and after getting home from work, did a boatload of browsing the web, playing on Stumbleupon, more texting, YouTube, pretty much anything that can kill a battery fast. Can't say I'm disappointed at all. Like I mentioned, not looking for miracles here, just need a battery to last me the day. Just flashed CM9 alpha 5 today so more testing will be done.
Not sure what other info might be needed but let me know and I'll post.
Thanks Yellowjacket and Blackknight for the info you provided in the previous posts. Sorry for the delay, had some personal issues to deal with. Cheers!
EDIT: Forgot to mention, if you're taking the battery cover off, be wary of the battery disconnecting relatively quickly from the phone. To disconnect, you don't even need to take the cover off entirely, just pop it out a little bit and it's enough to power the phone off.

There are many sites where you can upload pics. If you use google (99% sure you do since you use Android phone) you may want to link them from your Picasa. However if you prefer to do anonymously (like I do) use any of the freebie websites, i would suggest ImageShack (because many sites came and go but they are still there, and it is very easy on their site to go around their ads when you want to post actual picture).
Once you have your picture's url simply type this in your post:
Code:
[.IMG]http://YourImageUrlGoesHere.jpg[/IMG.]
/edit - the code tags don't work for other tags, it actually wanted to appear as photo in my post lol, so I added dots to prevent it: when you type it DO remove them (the first dot between "[" and "I", and the last dot between "G" and "]"
and it should appear as picture in your post.
I did it this way in my first posts here too when I wasn't "allowed" to add attachments

1 - Is it possible to use scotch tape or something to hold it in place when removing back cover?
2 - Is there enough space underneath this battery's cover - above or below the battery (most likely below since above is camera) - to use it as i.e. storage for SD cards? (that's what I used to do with my large Mugen battery on my old HTC TyTN II )
Thanks for your pics and info.
For the purpose of uploading the pics to the actual message instead of adding as an attachment, I opened a Photobucket account and tried two different methods to add them in, once by the HTML code and the second time by using the URL, both of which returned the same result with a message telling me I couldn't until I reached the 10 posts. I'll give your method a shot again to see if I can get it to work. Hopefully, I won't have to worry about that much longer anyway
I'll also check out the sites you recommended. Thanks for the info.
To answer your questions:
1. Adding tape is probably the way to go. It seems these batteries are the slightest bit shorter than the OEM which actually led me to a new problem. Twice today, I must have jarred the phone enough to where it disconnected while it was in my pocket and had to be booted back up. I'm not heavily reliant on my phone so no big deal but I also don't want it randomly disconnecting. Messing around a few moments ago, I gave my phone a shake and it was enough to cause it to disconnect. I folded a small piece of paper and taped it to the end of the battery to make the fit a bit more snug and it seems to have done the trick. I gave the phone a real hard shake after putting the paper/tape on there and it didn't disconnect.
I'm thinking I should have only ordered one of these batteries instead of two...lesson learned.
2. There's more than enough room to store a small collection of SD cards below the battery cover...great idea by the way, now that I have a large cover I may store my spares in there too!
Cheers!

It's been doing a pretty darn good job. I keep everything turned on (wifi, bluetooth, data, gps) and have gotten three days out of a single charge. I don't have any screenshots to show you right now but I can post them when I run the battery again.
I also bought an Anker charger for these batteries but it turns out they don't charge nearly as well as charging the phone/battery through a USB port on my computer. I was only getting one to one and a half days using the Anker. If anyone might have some insight to share on this, is there a difference between using a USB port on a computer as compared to plugging into a wall socket that would cause the battery to lose charge more quickly?
That's what I was hoping to hear. Still on the stock battery So I think I'll order of these tonight. I trust the backplate isn't falling off like all the other 3500 mAh batteries.

Some of my various accumulated wall chargers seem to fill better than others. For reasons unknown. A couple are complete crap, and don't saturate even over night. And don't even get me started on the ones that cause car panel or voice dialing to start automatically when plugged in.or the one that freezes my touchscreen and nearly made me kp. The included HTC cable and USB charge block work well, as does gf's factory Samsung charger.

Full on going review.. (note I just got this late last night)
Sears/K-Mart Lowered Price .... Veterans Day Special?
Just picked this up in-store for $149.95 plus tax. So far it has booted extremely fast. Trying to confirm the Android OS version. Website says 512MB of memory (which I took as ram) but the box says 256MB. Was told by telephone support that it had a camera but that is not the case (picture on some sites looks like it has a camera but this model my local Sears had does not have a camera).
Too bad about the camera. It may be going back although I like the HDMI output....
No G-sensor! (at least on mine). Have to pick the orientation by upper menu selection (although had to change the setting from automatic to reveal that feature).
Battery life??? Seriously?
I picked up one of these yesterday and was very impressed at first...
As soon as I remove it from the charger (fully charged) the battery drops to 85%. At first I gave it the benefit of the doubt and chalked it up to a bug...
After less than two hours of heavy web browsing and full screen brightness the battery was dead... I chalked it up to my usage, plugged it into the charger and went to bed.
This morning at work I turned it on and set up my email. I turned the screen brightness down to low, the display time out to a minute, and disabled wifi. I let the screen time out to, what I assumed, was standby mode and went about my work. I came back a hour and a half later and the battery was at 14%!! I clicked on battery usage and something called 'Cell Standby' was taking up 80%... Now its dead with no way to charge it until I get home (won't charge from usb).
I'll search for a why to possibly disable whatever 'Cell Standby' is but this thing is probably going back to sears TONIGHT!
i was thinking of grabbing one of these, so i emailed them and asked if 2.2 was ever gonna be on option for these tablets. Got this response:

Not too much happening on the Sylvania thread. I got mine today. I will be returning it since I ordered an Archos 70 today, but I will play with it for a few days anyway and comment on my experiences with it here.

EDIT: Oh I see you where you got that from. That is good news.
Fred, did you hear that they may upgrade it to 2.2?
Sylvania
First impressions are that the menu button on the back sucks. There should be one on the front of the device. I did install the Aldiko app the market place without any problem. I just find it annoying that to pull up a table of contents I have to push this small button on the back of the device instead of one on the front.
Should be delivered by the time I get home today.
Yea, I saw that they plan on doing 2.2 (probably get it before I get the official one for my Captivate).
I saw the video about potential upgrade issues. So I' figure I'll load everything up before I do the upgrade.
That Archos 70 looks decent, have to let us know how that one is too.
If I take the Sylvania back I still have a couple under $200 units I might try, If not I guess I move up into the near $300 range.
Sylvania
I spent a few more hours with this thing today. There does seem to be a battery issue with the device. I charged it up for 8 hours last night and within 5 minutes of turning it on I had downloaded the battery booster app, checked the status of the battery, and it showed a remaining charge of 75%. I would say from that point on I got around 2.5 hours of use browsing the internet, reading, and downloading a couple other apps. The lack of a g-sensor/accelerometer was not a big deal for me since I could change the screen orientation using the button provided. Maybe this is more of an issue with some games--I don't know.
Otherwise, I like the weight and balance of the tablet. The screen size is ideal for me to read on and I hold it fairly easily with one hand. The resistive screen works fine with a stylus or a fingernail. It does not work well with the ball of the fingertip, however.
I don't think there is a significant overheating issue. It does get obviously warmer during charging but I am usually holding the edges of the device so it wasn't a big deal.
Assuming an upgrade is forthcoming to 2.2, and assuming it improves the battery life closer to 4 hours, I would say this is a decent tablet. However, assuming the Coby Kyros comes available soon for about the same price, I would check it out first since it has a menu button on the front and because an accelerometer is included.
P.S.
I have stayed away from doing any software updates that may exist to this point. It sounds like they may cause more problems than they resolve.
Got mine last night, yea I have the weird battery meter issue too.
Loaded up a ton of stuff that I had on my Captivate, so far so good.
Did the upgrade and didn't have any issues, was still able to install apps unlike that video that is out indicated.
Also got it rooted with no problem using Z4Root, rooted in about 2 minutes, so I got Titanium Backup on it and CPU Tuner going on it.
So far I'm really liking this and if they keep their promise with the fixes and upgrade this is a sweet little device.
Between rooting it and doing the upgrade the battery issue seems to have resolved itself.
The only thing I have found is certain apps will change the screen orientation for a reason not related to the app and I get the force close warning now and then, but if I click WAIT instead it comes right back.
Funny the only web site that I seem to have a problem loading is XDA, and the XDA app seems to crash every time after I log in.
Other than that, I'm satisfied with this for what I wanted it to be. But I can see myself getting a decent tablet to replace my one netbook once it is out with gingerbread or honeycomb.
Battery
I had charged it 8 hours and it wouldn't turn on. I plugged it in the charger and it wouldn't boot up past the Sylvania logo. I performed a reset and was able to boot-up. I then immediately performed the update mentioned in the Sylvania booklet. It is now charging.
I am beginning to to think that the battery booster app that I downloaded doesn't work properly with this device since the readings are always seem dubious. Anyone have a battery app that they think works for their Sylvania?
P.S.
The booklet specifically says to take out the SD card when doing the update or they will be deleted.
Installing apps
After completing the update, everything seemed to be working fine but I just tried to download and install a new app and I am receiving the error message that the SD card can't be found. I have removed and reinserted the SD card a couple of times to verify it is seated properly and the OS is recognizing it since I can use file manager to explore the contents on the card.
At this point it doesn't really matter since I am planning to take it back anyway, but it does seem that the update causes problems.
I got that error immediately after the update, took the SD card out put it back in and it's been fine.
I'm using a 8Gig Kingston card, wonder if the card has anything to do with it?
There are2 usb ports the one is host only.
The other one is non-functioning until they release the net firmware update which they told me is in beta and should be out shorly.
How to reset?
Elmonica - or anyone else who has performed the reset -
How is this done? I see the reset button on the back, but if I press it while the unit is on, the screen goes blank (looks like powering off) and nothing happens.
The documentation online stinks and the manual leaves a lot to be desired. Any feedback is appreciated!
I also stood in line at Toys R Us and picked one of these up for $139.
And I also noticed the battery being chewed up very quickly on what seems like a full charge. For example, used it for 2 hours yesterday and set it down with 61% battery remaining, after about 6 hours of stand by - dead.
Looking at the running processes it appears the dev's didn't disable the cell phone portion of the OS.
aLogCat also reporting loads of fails on the radio buffer:
E/RIL (1957): opening data channel device - /dev/ttyUSB0. retrying...
Also, if you check your running processes and battery usage statistics you'll see the "Dialer" and "Cell" processes running. Not sure why.
I've tried killing these via term but they start back up again.
Maybe killing the WiFi before I set it down will save some juice.
After rooting it I got some battery improvement. But certain apps still time out on occasion and I'll get a run away key stroke while typing that is really annoying.

Have you had a chance to load a different launcher? I loaded ADW and got away from that goofy launcher. One press of the home screen gets you all the apps you have installed and press it again for a screen with widgets. Whats the point of having widgets if they are not on the screen full time?
Now I have to figure out how to disable the cell/radio process for good and also kill that silly yahoo api weather widget.
Next step is to solve how get adb working....

Or could anyone give me links to anything similar to the powermonkey for about half the price? and preferably in the UK as im going away in a weeks time.

This one works very well, much better than that one, i bought it for 20 euro's in a local electronic store, charges it 2,5-3 times from 15-100
Thanks for that. Does it hold enough power to give the desire 1 full charge or more ? ?
And can you plug in your own usb cables or does it have a different connector?
Cheers
I re-read your post last night(2am) and orderd the advanced pack for £19.99.
good price, free post and the item sounds decent!
I should hopefully have it by wednesday/thursday so just in time for me to go away on sunday.
I think you'll already know, you can put any usb(cable) in it, only if you charge the thing itself it uses MINI-usb(not micro like desire) so don't lose that cable and use the one you got.
PS: i don't use the torch but it is a very good one, provides a lot of light.
Yes i read up on it, expansys have posted it out allready so should be with me in time for my trip
I got the advanced kit aswell so im happy about that.
And i have plenty of torches so cant see myself using that much either tbh.
Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
BIG praise to exansys as i orderd it around 2am yesterday morning and it was waiting for me when i got home from work today.
I will be plugging it in very soon for its 1st 8hr charge as it has no charge at all right now.
I have 1 question for you though TopGear63z, the smaller pouch, is it supposed to be a single compartment pouch or has the lining come away from one side of mine?
Thanks
as you have an advanced kit> you should have such a pouch without it.. the big one is for the thing itself+ the cable> the small one is just for the car charger or on of the other things> so it doesn't need that lining as the big one has.
Im fussy so i will try and get it changed lol
So i gave the thing a full 8 or 9 hours first charge and used it to charge my phone whilst at work today.
Fully charged my phone, choiix unit down to 2leds from 4.
Im really pleased with it and highly recommend it to everyone!!

Ok. I love my Inspire + Android but the battery life just kills me. I'm a heavy GPS user because I go to NYC a lot and need to find places where to eat, subway directions, LIRR schedule, etc.
Anyway I was thinking, since the battery for the Inspire is small and thin, would it be safe to keep a spare charged battery in my wallet for when I need it? Even in my back pocket would be a good place to put it.
Yeah, plenty of people buy a second battery to switch out when one dies. When I bought my phone at Radioshack they tried to sell me one. It will be fine, just don't let the battery get too hot and maybe put it in something so no piece of metal can make pins contact each other.
Thanks for the answer
Two other options:
1) External battery. I have this one from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Energizer®-XP...2WWI/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1313594802&sr=8-5
Works pretty well. You simply attach it to the phone via a USB cable, and it charges it up.
2) Recently bought a powerskin case
http://www.amazon.com/PowerSkin-AP1..._1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1313594686&sr=1-1
This adds bulk to the phone, but is really nice to have. Simply attach the case to the phone and you are good to go. The battery in the case keeps the phone charged. I only recently got this, but it works really well for all day use. The bulkiness of the case could be an issue. I only use it when I know that I will be away from a powersource all day. Otherwise, I go to my regular case, which is much slimmer.
Hope this helps.
I just rooted and s-off, battery life is much better.

Hi everyone, I am a pretty technically savvy person, but a newbie to the world of smartphones. I just got a MT4GS this week and have been getting used to it for the past few days. My main concern is the battery life - understandably, compared to my old feature phone, the smartphone is going to use a lot more juice. I just wasn't expecting to charge it overnight, have it plugged most of the day at work, and still be down to ~70% power by the time I get home. I'm not even doing anything that intense with it. It worries me to think that my phone might die on me if I'm out somewhere for the day. And what is the point of having a phone that can run programs and do all these great things, if you're afraid to use it?
After reading around here, I've already picked up a lot of great tips: I ordered a set of the Anker batteries (my phone was purchased used, and while it is physically in great condition, who knows about the battery), and I installed the 2x Battery app. I've reduced my screen brightness; turned off background data; turned off GPS; and when I'm on WiFi, I have 4G off, and vice versa.
A couple of questions:
1) Without doing anything crazy to the phone or default OS, is there anything else you recommend doing to conserve battery life?
2) In 2x Battery, there is a setting "Pause when WiFi on." The description here is kind of confusing, and I can't tell if it's working or not. If I want the mobile data connection off when connected to WiFi, do I want this option checked or unchecked? Right now I'm connected to WiFi, but it appears that mobile data is on whether this box is checked or not.
Thank you so much for all the great info so far, and for any advice you can offer me )
Well, firstly, good call on the anker batteries. I have one, and it's changed my life with this device. I went from being exactly as you described (scared to go somewhere without knowing exactly where my next source of power was) to not paying it much mind.
Secondly, if you are unrooted stock - then you have a whole lot of apps working in the background and conspiring together to drain your battery. ...and there's nothing you can do about it because both T-Mobile and HTC saw fit to place them there, running around the clock and beyond your control.
This is known as bloat, and on this phone it's beyond out of control. It's out of control on other phones, but they took it to a special place of exasperation on this one.
I am not sure about this 2x battery app you're speaking of, i've never used it. Consider this, though, it's one MORE app running on your device and draining your battery - and if you are stock this may be something you can ill afford.
As far as the wifi/data dance, this is nothing more then a feel-good measure that really isn't doing anything for you except adding to your interaction with the device. The time your screen is on to make that change takes more battery use then you would save on several hours of having one or the other switched off.
Check this link below (another XDA post):
Everything you wanted to know about Li-Ion batteries but were afraid to ask!
...and it may help you out with battery care.
For me, running my custom ROM with an anker battery and all the apps/widgets I prefer to use I can get 6-8 hours out of a charge on the anker battery with semi-steady usage.
This is with both wifi, mobile data and background data on, and the screen on but at mostly dim brightness for 4-5 of those 6-8.
If I overclock the processor to 1.7Ghz (stock it stops at 1.2Ghz) and hook it up to a television using a playstation (game console) emulator...running flat out at full speed I can drain the (anker) battery in as little as 3 hours.
Something that may interest you as time wears on and you get used to having the anker batteries and using them is what is mentioned in this thread:
external battery pack! Awesome!
...and there are many out there and good deals to be had on some, poke around a bit and you'll find one suitable if such is your desire.
One last thing to consider - make sure you are using the proper charging port.
Most USB ports on computers only push half an amp, as well as nearly every single secondary port on chargers (think car chargers with an 'extra' USB port). Half an amp is not enough current to charge the device if being used, and barely enough to see positive battery increase if not.
Make sure whatever you plug into is pushing 5volts 1amp, or you'll see your battery level continue to drop as you are charging.
(oh, and GPS is something you WILL see more battery life from turning off if not using - so having something like a soundhound app widget on your home screen with location on will eat your battery before you know it's gone by activating the GPS.)
Dimming the screen if possible will see you the greatest gains in battery life, and then getting rid of any apps you can that are running in the background is the next biggest step - but again, if stock and unrooted there is only so much you can do on app management.
DON'T USE TASK KILLERS - EVER. (they do much, much more harm then any falsely perceived good you may think you are getting from them.)
Recap:
Screen = biggest battery drain.
GPS chip/use = second biggest drain.
Apps in background = third biggest drain.
Wifi/mobile data = negligable drain.
Hope this helps a bit.
Edit:
Oh, and welcome to XDA!
Blue pretty much covered everything that I was going to say. I also have the Anker battery, and I also have the Anker 5600 mah external battery, and I no longer have battery worries. I choose the Anker external battery over the other ones because of its small portable size, even though some of the other ones have more capacity. I find that I can get about two full charges of my phone with it, and it is small enough to fit in my pocket or purse with no problem. I highly recommend an external battery just for piece of mind, knowing that I no longer have to be searching every place I go for an outlet. I love that I can charge my phone while it is in my pocket or purse. Also the price isn't too bad, I bought mine for about $40, but I see Amazon now has it for $33. I bought it from a company called Laptop Mate on Amazon, and it was shipped amazingly fast even though I just got standard shipping. Laptop Mate then said if I wrote a review I could choose a free gift. The gifts were not anything spectacular, but the gesture was nice. At the time I could choose between a usb powered reading light, a card reader, and I forget what the other one was. Again nothing great, but it was just a nice bonus, I will definitely buy from that company again. So with my Anker internal battery, and my external battery, I could reasonably not have to plug my phone into the wall for at least two days, I could stretch it more if I was camping or something. I really like keeping my screen at full brightness, so that is where most of my drain comes from. Well, sorry for the long winded response, and welcome to XDA. I bet that in a month you will wonder what you ever did with out a smart phone.
http://www.amazon.com/Anker-Externa...on/dp/B005K7192G/ref=pd_rhf_gw_cpp_tab0_p_t_1
Thank you so much for your very thorough responses! I am happy to report that since making a few little changes (turning down my screen brightness, turning off the background data sync), performance is already noticeably better. Yesterday I was on battery power for close to 14 hours, was on and off WiFi, talked on the phone probably a couple hours total, and used it what I would consider a "normal" amount (e-mail, photos, some social networking)... and still had ~50% power left by the time I went to bed. That is much more reassuring to me, and I can only assume performance would get even better once I get those new batteries.
I understand about the "bloat" and having all these extra things running, but I think doing anything with the ROM is a little above my expertise at this point. For now, things seem to be working reasonably, so we'll see...
I like the external charger idea, but I am going to hold off for now. I ordered the 2-pack of Anker batteries, so once I get those, I'll have 3 batteries. One should be fine for a normal day, and if I'm really going to be out for a while and not have any opportunity to recharge, or will be using the phone a lot, I could just bring along a spare or two. (Good thing I am a lady with a purse - what do guys do?! Carry a man bag? My husband is considering getting the same phone, so this is a valid concern.)
I'm apparently too new to post a link to 2x Battery, which I've seen mentioned elsewhere on this board, but that's the name if you want to look it up in the Android Market. Even if it is using a little more battery power, I think it's worth it. It puts controls for things that use battery power all in one place, and it makes it very easy to monitor the current battery status. I think I'll stick with it, at least until I get a better sense of how my use affects the battery.
Per the question of a man hauling batteries, I just carry a spare battery or two I'm my front pocket. If I am carrying keys I will slap a piece of tape accross the terminals to prevent a short. One or two guys carry their spare gear in a camera case. I can haul most all I need in a corner of my Levi's front pocket.
I also used to run Juice Defender, it got irritating waiting for the data connection to spin up and the benefits were outweighed (IMHO) by the downsides. Killing data every time the screen turns off was grim.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
I have a zipper case I keep the phone in, and it's not much larger then the device itself. Above and beyond keeping dust out ( primary function ) it also has a small pocket on the outside I keep a few knick-knacks in, like a retractable micro-usb cable, backup memory card ( recovery purposes) mini flash drive and spare battery.
I highly recommend some kind of small zipper case for the device to keep out the dust, best $10 investment I've made for the phone.
Not in a position to link pics at the moment, but I'll do so over the next few days when I get the chance - especially floating loose in a potentially dusty purse it's something to consider.
I wish the video cable was something I could cram in to it as well, but that presents too much bulk for it to work, I have a mini camera case I carry sometimes with the A/V cable, AC adapter, another micro-usb cable and some memory cards and flash drives - something to consider for yourself for carrying cables and such since you most likely have room in your purse for a mini camera case with such things.
Sent from a digital distance.
Thanks for all the carrying tips!

I'm not really worried about my own phone, it has its own little pocket inside my purse, and I don't know what kind of ladies you hang out with, but my purse is not dusty...
Please forgive - I meant no offense by it.
I threw in the word potentially because while I have seen some pristine purses, i've also seen some which haven't been vacuumed out in a long time, if ever. The very fine dust that gets in during the course of normal travel is what our enemy is here. (...and yours may be vacuumed out on a consistent basis, really only you can know.)
This need not just be dirt, even the fibers of the material wearing off in tiny fractions of an amount from simply carrying it around (material rubbing against material as it's shape stretches, bends and contorts) is enough to be a hazard to the device. Over time this adds up.
(though, saying it has it's own pocket/pouch within the purse itself lends a good deal more protection and paints a much better picture then the previous blanket statement of 'in my purse')
Due to the slide mechanism and the exposed back of the LCD screen it is very easy to get dust under the screen, in between the layers of it.
Slide it open with the screen at max brightness, then flip it over. Look at the very end of the slide channels on the screen side, from an angle on the side. You will be able to clearly see the light shining through opposite the T-Mobile branding on the backside of where the genius button is. Look past the greenish tint and see the whitish light, noticing how it extends inwards.
You can now look at the other side, right by the T-Mobile branding in the same spot and though you can't see the light shining through, you can see how very fine dust can work it's way in between the digitizer and screen.
'Dust under screen' is something that people who post here at XDA have made warranty exchanges over, as well as who knows how many who don't post have done. It's a valid exchange gripe that is in fact covered under warranty from what the people who have posted about it have led us to believe. There are also plenty of 'dust under screen' doubleshots on reduced price on ebay that you could look up this very moment.
Again, I meant no offense, but was simply trying to use the situation presented to illustrate a potential hazard your new device could fall victim of. Hopefully by bringing it to your attention you can take steps to minimize any damage, or at least present you with the opportunity to later be in a situation of:
'Oh well, at least I knew it was coming'
...as opposed to:
'Wow, I wish I knew that could have happened'
We only wish you to get the best experience possible from your Android, and while there is a lot of important info here...'tis easy to become overwhelmed by it all and miss some of the important things that could help you immediately, or should be known immediately.
Glad to hear you are already in better straights over the management of your available power!
By the way - thanks for endeavoring to clarify the app you were using for battery management, i'll definitely scope it out when I get a chance.

None taken, I just thought it was funny
Thanks for the tips about dust, though. That wasn't something I had really considered, though I'm hoping to get a bit more life out of this phone than my last few (cheap, and switched on a whim), so I'll be sure to keep things clean. Is it ok to spray the back of the slide-out with some compressed air, or could that cause other problems?
Little update:
I did use a little compressed air to clean out the back of the phone, so hopefully I didn't hurt anything.
Two different cases are on their way to me - I'll see which I like more and return the other.
I've had the Anker battery in for just a couple hours, and it's already amazing! I've been using the phone a decent amount, turned on notifications and everything I'd switched off, and it's still at 100%! Also feels much cooler than the other battery. It was a tight fit, like everyone said, but I did get it in and fit the back cover over it.
But, weird thing: when I turn the phone sideways, the screen no longer rotates. It will still rotate if I slide the keyboard up, but otherwise it's like it doesn't recognize that the orientation changed. Did the battery mess something up?
The screen didn't rotate on it's own unless you slid the keyboard out if you are using the stock launcher - you may have made the same mistake I did in thinking it was so, but it wasn't.
Home screens, in the app drawer...etc... not made to auto-rotate.
You just happened to finally realize it - same thing happened to me.
I even argued against it, and couldn't figure out why it was changed.
A while later while I was going through the code that comprises Rosie (sense launcher) I actually saw that it wasn't made to do so.
So no, the battery didn't mess this up, it's the way it was supposed to be.
The reason for it is there is an alignment issue with some widgets when it switches from portrait to landscape in Rosie. I'm not sure how to fix it the way they have it coded, i've been scratching my head on this one for a while and tried a few things with no success.
HTC could learn a few things from some aftermarket app designers ( like the team that made GO launcher, for instance)
The way they built it, I don't think it's possible to fix their mistake, it's too interwoven and embedded in the design of the code.
Edit - it still and always has, autorotated while you are in apps themselves if they support it.
Oh you're right! That's funny, I never noticed before. In other apps, the screen does rotate normally, so I guess all is good...
Going on 12 hours with this battery, with all notifications, synching, etc. turned on, and I'm still at 67% ... And this is right out of the box, without the 4-5 cycles they recommend. I'm very happy with it so far!
What is the support for unlocked and for root and roms like? What is your experience if you have it, pros & cons? what would make it perfect? whats it missing?

It's an early scene for roms there's a few out there ... But support usually falls off
Not an expert by any means, but it was very easy to root--especially with the Pixel Flasher. Haven't tried any custom ROMs yet, as I'm pretty happy with the Android 13 beta releases.

Cons is the sub par battery performance and lack of straight out of the box VoLTE & 5G support for non official supported country
Pros is as usual : easy to unlock, root etc, great camera.
If i didn't pick 7 pro, i might already pick Xiaomi 12s Ultra. It has better hardware all around, including camera. But i still prefer google's software & OS iteration, although i kinda hope google to actually cherry pick some other great features from other OEMs software/ROM
Battery life seems to be pot luck to be honest, mine is stella compared to what my Pixel 6 Pro was, i often don't charge it on an evening if its lead a fairly light day and I've never seen it go below 15% even when i have absolutely battered the living daylights out of it.
Very easy to root, and with the stock build being as close to vanilla as you can get, absolutely no need for custom roms in my view.
My battery life since day one back in mid-October has been fantastic with a slight downward turn on the December build. Back up to what I was getting previously on January though.

I'm not sure about if and when you updated, but I suggest you try disabling adaptive battery, I feel like my SoT and idle are a bit better with it disabled.

Not to turn this away from the OP's queries and get off-topic, but same. Can't seem to nail down the cause. Completely stock too, so I'm assuming it's something in a recent firmware update. Hopefully it returns to it's previously glorious battery life.

It is a bit off topic, but I’m not sure it derailing his questions because this is a legitimate concern with this device. I think this weekend I’m going to do another factory reset and stay with the stock kernel even though I don’t believe kernel related, I still have to tested just to make sure.
@MarcoReckless I took that advice about two weeks ago, and that made it even worse.

I came from a OnePlus 7T to the Pixel 6--out of sheer curiosity. I liked the 6 so much, that I couldn't resist the 7 when it was announced...and sprung for the Pro. I've been really happy with it. I'm not a poweruser by any means, so I haven't put it thru any severe tests. You might try reddit if you're looking for "cons" on the phone--there are always plenty of complaints over there! ;-) (Just remember that 'satisfied' people speak up less in general.)

That's a valid point regarding the topic. I think I've seen you on the Kiri kernel thread? I'm completely stock (that was painful to write haha) since I wanted to wait for development to mature a bit, so I'm assuming it's firmware related since we are running different kernels. Idle drain and SoT are both affected on my device. I even disabled my VPN app to see if maybe it was some sort of network strain, but it's literally the same. Please keep me posted if you wipe over the weekend and it helps. The drain isn't crazy for me, but enough that I feel it and end the day ~15% lower than a couple weeks ago.
There is more custom ROM support for this device that's been out for 3 months than there usually is for other devices that have been out for a year. It's not as visible here because a number of these devs moved to Telegram where they can make their own rules rather than here where they're required to provide sources and are expected to actually be helpful to people making requests of them but there are a bunch of them out there and in my opinion, the best ones are on XDA anyway.
I actually had an issue with my display and I was expecting the worst but they sent me to a uBreakiFix and I walked out with a new screen in less than an hour after less than 20 minutes chatting with a Pixel support rep, and I got it repaired the same day even. When that screen proved to be defective too, uBreakiFix replaced it a second time without me even having to contact Google and that took about an hour. If I still had my OnePlus, that would have been weeks of mailing and waiting, and that's assuming they didn't try to tell me it was my fault like they have with other people who got green lines on their screens with no visible damage and were charged hundreds to repair it. This earned Google a lot of points in my book.

As you can see, it gets me through a day or so. The high screen off usage is largely driven by how much I use VLC to shuffle play videos with the screen off when I'm sleeping at night. During the day it's something like 2% which is not the best but honestly I don't care as long as I get through a day or so without charging.
I do have one thing to gripe about though - this modem is not a 3GPP Release 16 modem. This means it's missing a number of new frequencies. This affects me personally as AT&T has 40MHz of 3.45GHz n77 spectrum deployed here and the phone cannot use it, only 3.7GHz n77 that they cannot use here until 2024. Additionally this phone doesn't support n70 or n48 for Dish's wireless, who will actually be switching me from AT&T's towers to their own in the coming months (I have Boost Infinite), so I am keeping an eye out to see what flagships launch this year with those bands supported to decide if I'm dumping the Pixel or not (unfortunately the S23 Ultra is looking like it won't support n70 even though the modem in it does). I guess that at least gives me some time to see how my phone performs with the missing bands when I get the new Boost Infinite SIM card - it may not be necessary for me to switch phones regardless.
Oh yeah and the charging is slow. About 1h55m to charge to 100%. You can get 50% in 30 minutes though so it hasn't been a real issue either.

My idle drain when I first flashback to stock last weekend was about 1% and now it’s up to about 3% and my active drain, which started out around 5% is typically anywhere from 9 to 13%.
This is from right now after just having put it back on my car charger.
Any other conversation about this particular topic, I think we should move to the battery drain thread on page 2 of this forum

pixel7pro is one of the best phone you can get in 2023.
I wish Google put the annoying front camera under display and not cutting that hole in middle of the screen.
p7p has easy root and no need for a custom ROM anymore.

I live less than 10 minutes from Dish Wireless's HQ at the Dish Riverfront site (that used to actually be Dish's HQ period before they moved to Englewood, the street at Riverfront is even called Echostar although I can't remember if it's Drive, Lane, or what) and would like to work for them... With my knowledge of all these things I could at the very least be worth having in tech support, that's even without my 6 years of experience doing customer service, sales, tech support, and help desk roles... Unfortunately they seem to only be interested in full timers and my status as being disabled (panic disorder and agoraphobia which is why their work from home positions were very appealing to me) and looking to re-enter the workforce just doesn't really make it seem like it's worth my time trying to convince them otherwise. It's unfortunate too as I help run one of the largest subreddits dedicated to phone plans and could be very useful as they try to get Infinite off the ground. I even had a customer service rep try to convince me to join them as she recognized me by my name on reddit but she herself said that if I can't work full time, it's probably a non-starter.
It is fascinating what they are trying to do though. Swimming with the big fish is going to take some talented people. I am cheering from the sidelines.
