[Q] Hi, is there anyway to root my XE? - HTC Sensation

Hi, I have a XE and I want to see if I can S-Off/root it. (Without HTCDev, as that wouldn't work, and no Juopunutbear because I don't want to do anything too messy.)
My HBOOT reads as fallows:
*** LOCKED ***
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.27.0000
eMMc-boot
Jan 13 2012, 17:33:34
Any help?
Also, I'm good with rooting/S-off and can get my way through adb.

Try this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300

This is what I get when I run Revolutionary:
Found your device: HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e (pyramid-1.27.0000, A
ndroid: 4.0.3, ROM version: 3.32.206.112)
Your device: pyramid, with HBOOT 1.27.0000 is not supported at this time.
Press (almost) any key to exit.

Mostly because I just got this one under warranty from HTC because my last one got hard bricked, and I don't wanna screw it up again

Hey,
There is only one method for you, & that is JuopunutBear with temporary root.
If not for this method, there is nothing else.
You will find it very hard to do the wire trick because your bootloader cannot be unlocked; if you can come to the JuopunutBear Support Channel (Link in signature), we can help you out.

Unfortunatly there are not many solutions for rooting with that hboot at this time.however many people have been successful at using junoptobears method. However if your not comfortable with it than don't do it. You must be comfortable in the method you use. Revolutionary does not support that Hboot as of now but who knows in the future they might.looks like your options are quite narrow if you want to root right now. Perhaps someone knows of another way around this. If not I would read the guide and try to become more comfortable with your options. It just depends on how important it is to you to be able to be rooted. If its important than read up and hopefully you will soon be more comfortable with the wire trick. Whatever you decide I wish you the best...

ENG S-OFF and Ship S-OFF?

Hi,
I want to flash a new radio to my Sensation as I currently have a really bad battery life and thought it could maybe be the result of an non-matched radio. (Updated to Android Revolution HD 3.0.0 yesterday)
My bootloader tells me I'm Ship S-OFF, but I've read that I'd need ENG S-OFF to flash a new radio, but could not find any guide telling me how to "do that".
Do I need ENG S-OFF? If so, how can I get it?
Thanks for your help.
Find Bin4ry's thread in dev section (it's a little hard to find, old thread but still) and inside that thread you can download PG58IMG.zip file. Then just flash that file and that's it
Edit: Here is the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122053

Btw, I'm not sure if you need ENG S-OFF to flash a radio

Thanks for the reply. Does anyone else know if I really need ENG S-OFF to flash a new Radio? I don't want to do it if I don't need it..

I've already installed one PG58IMG.zip file a few weeks ago, which was a bit "bigger". Am I supposed to just install the "new" one "over" the old one? Or will there be problems?

What is ENG S-Off used for anyway? Installing a new ROM overwrites the radio though?

Installing a new ROM does not override the radio, installing a new radio does. If you don't know what ENG hboot does, don't flash it. You don't need it, and if you don't know what youre doing you can brick your phone.

I do know what I'm doing (I think xD). I just mixed up all the information I got, so I wanted things to be cleared up a bit.
What I just want to know is, what is the difference between Ship S-Off and Eng S-Off? What is responsible for giving acces to Nand making me able to install a custom ROM? Ship S-Off, right?
I'm really confused right now xD

Ship S-OFF is enough to flash a recovery so you can flash a ROM. If your ROM needs a different radio the chef will let you know and will likely provide instructions to upgrade. ENG s-off opens up more commands that can potentially break a phone if you do the wrong things.

[Q] can my sensation be rooted?

I have bought the phone in India and it is not locked to any carrier. I can use any sim card in it. Following is the information in bootloader in my HTC Sensation.

I want to attempt rooting on my phone but I dont know whether its bootloader is unlocked. Because I remember reading something about HTC releasing a tool for it. The phone is on Android 2.3.4.
So can it be rooted? Do I need to unlock it first? Can I use the method/tool in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1343114
Please advise. TIA!

I have read the 1st post of the above thread. As I understand it, I have to do it in the following steps:
1. S-Off using revoltionary
2. Install CWM Recovery 5.0.0.8
3. Permanent root using su-2.3.6.3-ef-signed.zip
4. Install Custom ROM
Is the above procedure right? Or have I messed any step?
I believe the Super CID step is for branded phones which are locked to a particular carrier. Since my phone is unbranded and not locked to any carrier, I dont have to do it, right?
Please advice if I am missing something.

To install new ROM's like the ICS 4.0.3 ones you need supercid because you have to flash a new firmware
The order in which you wrote is correct

So I need Super CID for ICS ROM's only and not for Sense 3.5 ROM's, correct?

Technically incorrect as the ICS ROMs are sense 3.5 at the moment but I know what you mean. No need to SuperCID for Gingerbread based ROMs

Yes. I meant gingerbread roms. So are the steps that I mentioned correct? And in the right order?
Btw, why does my phone has 'locked' written in the bootloader menu? Is it the locked bootloader from htc and do I have to first unlock it before attempting S-off?

You should be able to S-OFF without unlocking it and it only says locked because the revolutionary tool and HTCdev tool work in slightly different ways. The steps are correct and in the right order

Thanks, Jonny. You have been of great help.
Another thing. If I root my Sensation now and install a custom rom, will I still get the ICS update available notification whenever HTC releases it? And will I be able to apply that ICS update to my rooted phone?
I know there already are ICS rom's available but I would still want to check out what HTC offers in their official ICS update. Maybe a newer version of Sense?

not sure if this would be the problem but it does say you need s-off to install ARHD. i installed the t-mobile version with s-off and everything worked fine with me.
Really? I need to be s-off? I though I could be unlocked bootloader! Could not get that damn wire trick to work! What now?
Keep trying don't give up. The wire trick is touchy and I believe it's a matter of timing. Read the instructions again and get the timing correct and you will be good! I wish you the best! You can do it ! Have patience. Good luck!

How to S-OFF an Unlocked HTC Sensation XE?

I have a HTC Sensation XE, long time ago its been bricked after i unlocked the phone. I sent it to the shop and they stupidly install the z710e software instead. That means I'm using the HTC Sensation software without Beats Audio.
I'm getting frustrated now I'm not able to hear excellent sound anymore. I tried installing the Beats Audio mod people keep posting and NONE of them seems to work. I checked my phone status and it says UNLOCKED but with S-ON.
SO, can anyone help me with this problem. I send it back to the shop and they said to install back to z715e is not possible and they would charge me $300 if i send it to HTC Center. I really hope someone can help me without people ripping off my money again!

OK make sure you have 4Ext Touch Recovery Or CWM,
then Download ViperS rom and follow all the instructions there. MAKE SURE YOU MAKE A BACK UPAlways do this when messing with anything in your phone.
After you download it follow the rest of the instructions on that page. thus you will have a new rom. it's rooted, unlocked, overclocked, stable. and has beats audio.
if i helped hit thanks.

In fact you don't have to S-OFF your device. It just makes things slightly easier to be done. In case you really want to S-OFF your device please follow the perfect guide from auggie2k. It uses the Juopunutbear method. But FYI I am also using an HTC Sensation XE unlocked by HTCDEV and S-ON and I always Smartflash my ROMs and Kernels using 4EXT. You can do this by following a very clear instruction written by Asskicker.
