[Q] SD Not Mounting in CWM "Unable to write ums lunfile" - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

Hey All,
First time poster, long time lurker! i have learned so much from this community. thank you all for what you do. anywho lets get on with the show.
Having an issue with my SD. I cannot mount it all of a sudden in CWM. if i /mount/sdcard the error message i receive is something along the lines of error mounting sdcard.
if i try to mount USB storage i receive the error "E: unable to write ums lunfile (no such file or directory exists).
i cannot for the life of me figure out why.
I am Unlocked, rooted, S-on, running Pyro-ice 1.1.3
i have even tried to flash the stock recovery, flash stock rom, but it wouldnt even take that. through bootloader it would recognize the PG59IMG and get to the point where it would be checking the .zip and it would fail about 75% of the way through. i am at a complete loss guys. any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

sd issue
sounds like a problem with your sd card. you should format your sd card to fat32. if that doesn't work, go to settings>sd & phone storage>factory data reset and make sure the 'erase sd card' option is checked (assuming you're still on the stock rom).

not on the stock rom. still on pyro-ice 1.1.3.
i have backed up my sdcard and reformatted to fat32 two times now. that doesnt seem to be the issue.
have tried a different sd card as well to no avail. how would i be able to get it to stock if i cant get my phone to read a sdcard? im assuming the answer is YOU CANT... ugh.
EDIT- i have just flashed stock recovery via fastboot and relocked bootloader. PG59IMG was found in bootloader during the scan and it has finally asked me to update. Going through the process now. WIll report back. Hope this short lived thread will hopefully be able to help at least someone in a predicament similiar to mine.

WELLLLLLL. i managed to get back to the stock rom. I unlocked bootloader once again and flashed cwm. once again. no sdcard can be mounted. i was able to mount the sd card with a mounting app in the market before i went stock. but CWM will not recognize the sd whatsoever. i need to flas su to get root so i can finally get s-off.
this is killing me. ugh.

cwm
try to re-flash/upgrade cwm recovery. it could be that your current cwm recovery is corrupted. xmc wildchild22 posted his cwm 5.5.0.4 in the dev section and it has worked well for me.

So here is where I am at now.
Managed to get stock rom installed and running with stock recovery and a relock of the bootloader. After that I was able to use the sd card normally while the phone was on, and in bootloader.
CWM will not mount the sd, nor will it mount usb storage. That being said, I can't install su via cwm to root, which I would then run JB to gain s-off. I flashed and reflashed all available versions of cwm, new and old with the same result.
Its certainly not a hardware issue seeing as I can use the sd normally while its on, and it even scans during bootloader. But cwm just will not take... I'm officially out of ideas... Help????

ota zip
if it's not a hardware issue, there might be an issue with your internal memory. i've seen instances where the recovery mmcblkxxx on internal memory can get corrupted.
so if you have an htcdev unlocked bootloader and jb s-off, you can flash zip's and ruu's now. try to flash the latest ota 1.63.531.2 PG59IMG.zip and see if it fixes the internal memory partition. i did this last week and although i had to re-unlock bootloader, the device kept s-off so you don't have to do jb all over again.
if this doesn't work, i would pm blue or another dev to find out how to actually format and restore the internal memory.

EDIT: have you always had this problem with all recoveries

I'm having this same issue, I can't even mount my SD while on a ROM. This happened after I flashed CWM 6.
Edit: Also the LED is ALWAYS orange now. Even in recovery.

This problem is also in the not working list in CWM 6....thats why its still an alpha....just flash back to a stable version

That's the very same way mine was reacting as far as the orange light goes after a CWM 6 flash. But I COULD mount my sd card from there. It, for me, ended up being a corrupted user data partition that I couldn't get around for the life of me. I'm now waiting on a replacement phone. Should be here tomorrow.
IMHO, there's something about CWM 6 that isn't playing nicely with SEVERAL of the DS's partitions. That seemed to be indicated when it gave me errors on partitions 31 & 24 in particular when trying to do a test restore after my install.
XMC has added to the top of his OP under the header to not use CWM 6 until some of these issues can be addressed & resolved. I would heed that warning!

If you're not getting any partition error messages you MIGHT be able the use jonnycat's method pinned to the top of the developer's section to 'go back'. Mine seemed to be doing great until HBoot got to the user data partition and just hung there. It DID replace my boot & system files that CWM 5 OR 6 wouldn't touch. That is if you can't get ADB running to try what you may have in mind. I wish you ALL the luck in the world my friend!
I take it you're no longer under warranty?

Love deadmau5.
+1 for warranty.
As long as your void sticker is still intact and no water damage, it should be ok.
You should call up htc asap, and figure it out. You may be in the last month or so, but a very good chance (90%+) you're still covered...
Do it! Do it now!!
I'd hate to see you go like this

That's true! HTC's warranty is for 1 year whether you took TMobile's insurance or not. I didn't have it but was covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

Ok so here is whats up. 1, my SD was fried. Put in a new one, still did not work. Flashed official CWM, then wiped data/cache/dalvik. Phone booted, and SD is working fine. I can mount via CWM.

Thank goodness!!!!

Internal SD card Problem! HELP!!!

hey i know im probably posting in the wrong thread but here it goes..this happened yesterday morning in my truck (cable guy). The phone started bootlooping on the samsung screen, i didnt panic, i just hooked it up to my laptop and used heimdall to get it to stock so i can reflash, i figured maybe just a bad flash. Well i was doing all the heimdalls out there, all the odins that i thought might work, i did everything imaginable. The problem im having is now when i try to get up the stock recovery it says the following.
E: failed to mount /data invalid arguements, and during this whole frantic period i got alot of errors with the E: drive on my phone.
I posted on this thread because i look at it religiously and trust the people that i see on her and think you guys are genius'. From what i read its something with the partitionms on the internal hard drive. any insight would be awesome cuz i love the jelly bean rom right now..If i put my battery in it automatically goes to samsung boot screen without me even pressing anything, then will bootloop a few times then go to att boot animation and just bootloop on that.. Please Help i cannot deal with the blackberry torch i had to fall back!

ok, I will take a swing at this, since you have had 124 views and not one reply...:crying:
Did you do a factory reset and format int sd after you went back to stock?
I would do the one click again and do a factory reset with a formating of int sd.
I was going suggest redoing the whole stock and repartition thing.
1. get all the pics, data, files, mms off the phone and back it up
2. find /voodoo on your sdcard and delete it
3. boot into cwm and factory reset
4. heimdall uclb3 or uckj4 - with boot loaders flash
5. flash your custom kernel and then follow ics/jb op's

So i tried to flash the latest evervolv jb rom. Didn't boot,oh well.
Went to recovery to restore, error while restoring system, hmmm, never seen that b4.
So went to usb mass storage and downloaded roms 3 times they all say bad , of course they're not all bad.
I am using CW-enhanced recovery v1.1b but have been for a couple weeks not sure if that has anything to do with the problem or not.

Are you Downloading over WiFi , Hardline , or the Network? Are you making sure to check the MD5 Checksum before trying to flash? Did you Restoring a different Rom? I don't think it's the Recovery, as I am currently using Dreads Recovery on several devices with no issues. Has your SD Card been giving you any issues?
I've had this issue when I ran out of space on my SD card (using Dread's Recovery). Probably never did a complete backup but I didn't really pay attention and when I tried to restore it errored out... Perhaps reboot into bootloader and then back into recovery. Then try a different backup (I occasionally save copies of nands on my pc) or a different ROM. Good luck!

so hooked it up to pc again and let windows check the sd card for errors. no problems found.
then i connected to the pc using usb storage again and all my files are like they were BEFORE i reformatted an hour or so ago.

Try live booting linux and formatting your SD that way.

Issue mounting hox to pc

I'm having a problem getting my phone to connect to my pc, I was able to connect to it about a week ago and transfer a few files(movies) over. But now when I plug it in all it dose is charge, no notification bar, no pop-up asking what I want to do, windows wont chime and detect it either, rebooted both phone and pc, and still nothing. I tried using all the ports on my pc front and back, and a different cable. However my friend can connect his phone to my pc(same port I always used for my phone) just fine, so I plugged my phone into a different computer and it just charges. I even checked to make sure it's still set to ask me on connection and default is to mount as well as debugging is on.
I went into the bootloader to see if I could mount through "fastboot USB" but it wasn't an option, when "adb devices" is used the list is blank, and HTC Sync show's no devices(installed sync to see if the drivers it had would fix things...it did not). I'm on 1.85 rooted but not unlocked and have tried just about everything short of doing a factory restore or running the 1.85 ruu which I'm holding out for last as I don't want to lose my files or root in case doing either doesn't work lol, so any help or advice is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance guys!
Did you check main settings, connect to pc an select your USB option?
WR
Edit to add, I misread your post, it seems you did that already, my bad.

My HTC Flyer used to do that every once in a while (actually has not done it in a while) and its annoying as hell. Wiping cache and Dalvik cleared it right up. I do it from custom recovery, but if you don't have one installed, Market apps should let you clear the caches as long as you have root (which you mentioned you did). ROM Toolbox is one app that states it has this feature (but I haven't personally used it).
Otherwise, a factor reset should fix the issue.
What ROM are you running? I had this issue when I switched to a JB ROM that wasn't very far into development. It could be the ROM. Try entering recovery and mounting it through there.

I tried Rom Toolbox but it tries to boot into recovery, and from there I get a picture of a phone with arrows, and then it becomes a red ! and then I have to reboot, so Im looking for any other app that may let me wipe the caches and will let y'all know when/if I find one that works. As for my rom, I'm running stock 1.85 as I never unlocked the bl, just gained root using the 1.85 method (did it all manually) but that a few months ago lol
>Edit
I ended up using an app called System Tuner to wipe my caches which did not fix my problem so I guess I'll have to try a factory reset *sigh*

The screen with the phone with arrows is the stock recovery. Its lame if the advertised feature of wiping cache and Dalvik in ROM Toolbox simply boots into recovery (and requires custom recovery), since custom recovery has these features anyway.
Here are a couple more apps that advertise the feature:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fm.kk&feature=search_result
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.j.y.daddy.customizer&feature=search_result
Again, can't vouch for any of them, and haven't used them (since I wipe cache & Dalvik from custom recovery).
BTW, if you do find an app or other method to wipe cache and Dalvik, be sure to reboot, if the method does not already force a reboot.
Are you rooted with a custom recovery flashed. If not rom toolbox will be of no help. The fact that you got the stock recovery tells me you have not yet flashed one. Maybe, if ur rooted download goomanager and install a recovery from there

I was under the impression I needed my bootloader unlocked to flash a new recovery. The only reason why I never unlocked mine was if something happened I could use my warranty until we got s-off, but at this point if I ever get this problemo fixed I'll just unlock it (might save me from a good bit of head aches later on lol)

What a stupid "feature"! If ROM Toolbox requires custom recovery to wipe cache and Dalvik, then its not a "feature" at all, since all custom recoveries can already do it!

That's what I thought, as well. 18th.abn has written this elsewhere, but I haven't seen it confirmed. If you feel comfortable, give it a try, and let us know. Especially if you are going to run the RUU anyway. Running the RUU will revert recovery back to stock.
If you can flash a custom recovery without bootloader unlock, what's to stop you from flashing custom ROMs?
yeah I had HTC Driver 3.0.0.007 installed before this problem, tried to reinstall them and tried to connect again and nothing, so I removed them again and installed HTC Sync to get the drivers from that and still nothing =\
If I don't need an unlocked bootloader to flash a recovery then really theres nothing stopping me now, albeit there's really nothing stopping me now in any case if I manage to fix the usb mounting problem haha

I'm at a loss as well. Seems like it might not be the software issue that has plagued my Flyer, and some other users. Does it look like anything in the USB port is damaged or bent?

That's what I thought. If you can install custom recovery without unlocking the bootloader, there is no purpose to unlocking the bootloader, as I think getting custom recovery on the device is the main obstacle to flashing ROMs. Thanks for checking.
well I took it to an at&t store yesterday and they couldn't even get it to connect to their device, so they gave me a number for phone warranty and told me they'll have me do a few trouble shooting steps and then when they realize it's the phone itself send me a new one. My main fear about this is once they get my current phone and they see it's got the security warning and tampered label in the bl will they claim I'm responsible?

Report on here so far, is that AT&T doesn't care about the BL being unlocked, and have given warranty replacements for BL unlocked phones.

sweet! best news Iv heard since this problem started (well as best as it gets in any case lol) I also took a look at the port itself on the phone and it dose not seem like anything is bent and/or damaged so I'm not sure exactly where the hell the problem is.
**Update** I got my replacement phone in, and unfortunately it's on the latest firmware =\ on the up-ish side I think I found out why my old oneX stopped reading...a friend of mine built a pc but his USB ports weren't working, turned out he had the usb lead plugged into a firewire header lol
Big thanks to everyone who helped out trying to find out what the heck happened to my phone!
Wait, so you are you saying their was nothing wrong with your phone?

to be honest, I'm not sure. A few days after I last had my phone hooked into my pc I plugged it into his and it never connected (which was normal at the time since nothing but his mouse/keyboard was able to connect) he had his plugged into the same port as well most the time but his was still able to connect to other computers. In short, it's just my guess that it's a possibility that my plugging it into his computer might have damaged it as we just found out last night he had the front panel usb lead plugged into a firewire header
Ahh, I see what you're saying. Maybe having the Firewire lead connected to the USB port shorted out the port on your One X?

bricked one x

So earlier i attempted to do the 2.2 root.
i managed to get as far as rooting, installing superuser and CWM
now, the problem is when i went to flash the rom, i tried to run the super wipe, but was getting errors about the sdcard not being able to be mounted. and the wipe was not performed/failed/aborted etc
i tried to run flash the rom still, it loaded, but still gave an error at the end and did not work.
reboot the phone, and i get the HTS quietly brilliant screen with red text that says"this build is for development purposes only...." and from here it does nothing but constantly reboot to this screen.
i am able to get to the bootloader screen, and fastboot works.
ive tried factory resetting the phone, as well as using the CWM recovery. i am unable to do any. as the CWM cannot write to e:\sd card
its not mounted, and i cannot mount it, when i try to reformat the sd card, it says it is unmounted.
mount usb storage was not working either, and said files were missing.
i read on other threads about needing the sd card reformatted, but the one x has an internal card.
please help
i feel like it can be fixed, but im really worried my phone is bricked
eta: i tried to revert to the stock ruu, but i think i should have read it more clearly.
so i guess i flashed the ruu that was NOT 2.2
now my CWM is gone, and i can only get onto the bootloader and fast boot
under fastboot devices my device's serial does show up
ETA: i reflashed with twrp, managed to wipe my sdcard, and am now able to mount.
from here my phone is still not able to boot up.
i can attempt to run the super wipe, but am still getting an error
"E:error in /sdcard"

so from mounting
im trying to install the Android Revolution HD 9.7.2 Ice Cream Sandwich
it allows me to choose settings, and such and start install.
after starting install, it goes through the files and such, but when it gets to /system/lib/ it just closes on itself, and goes back to twrp screen and recovery home. the rom never finishes installing. right now im gonna re-download the rom and see if that works.
if i cannot install the custom rom, how can i go back to stock exactly?
do i need to find the stock ruu?
fixed it.
turns out im stupid and was using a rom not compatible with this phone.
i flashed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1907324 so far, and it seems to be working
however, i prefer something closer to stock. can anyone suggest a rom?
hopefully you aren't using cwm anymore and flashed twrp for the evita.

I knew what you did the second I saw the words "Android Revolution", as that ROM does not exist for our phone.
Stick to the ROMs listed in our section of the forum (AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL) in "Android Development" and "Original Android Devepment" here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1538
Or just use my handy index, which is an organized list of all our ROMs and mods:

I didn't even have to use the search function. 2 are near the top of General. The remaining has slipped past the first page, but its still pretty high up there.
People who flash a ROM for the international version are simply neglecting to do any basic reading and learning before flashing things willy-nilly, that's my point.
thanks for the help guys. i flashed viper xl yesterday night right after, loving it thus far. i was just so used to the sense keyboard already, and hated the cramped jb keyboard, and this rom has simple little tweaks
i did read, but i guess not thoroughly enough. in hindsight, i wasnt aware that the one x was different than the xl, its fairly easy to miss that the other roms are not compatible with this phone. and is completely different alltogether.
if i had known that, i wouldnt have flashed cwm, and would not have need to post a help thread. all "solutions" i attempted on my own were based off readings of the hox, rather than the evita, once again causing more problems. it was easily enough fixed once i figured that bit of information out.
i am a noob, but this phone is not my first time rooting, so with my prior knowledge i felt i was more than ready to tackle this rom flashing, im sure plenty of others will make the same mistake as i did.
the other phones ive rooted and flashed had their one model of phone only, so all the roms available were compatible.
im just glad my phone is not bricked, and i now have root access

From what others are saying, the newer hboot that came with 2.20 is write protected. Hboot can't be overwritten by flashing a ROM for the international One X. ROM just fails to flash, and you get a recoverable condition like this one, as opposed to hard bricks on the older hboot.
Yea, at least there's one good thing that came with the dreaded update

[Q] internal sd card wll not mount in CWM

I thought I would change the title of my thread as the issue seems to have changed. I hope that isn't a problem. I am able to get into loader mode just fine and have loaded CWM twice through ODIN but am unable to get the internal SD Card to mount or USB mode to work. HAs anyone seen this before? I searched carefully and could not find any reference to my problem. I was careful to uncheck re-partition but there is a chance I may have not, I suppose. Would that cause my problem? Any input would be most appreciated....I'm stuck.
Well, the good news is as long as you have Odin mode nothing is broken that cant be fixed the bad news is, I've been following your progress, and I'm stumped and out of ideas :-/ the way I understand it, you have a working Clockwork Mod recovery, you can boot to recovery. Correct? When you try to mount USB mode in Mounts and Storage, it gives you an error? Do you have an external microSD that you could copy a ROM over to and try to flash from there?
Which version of CMW did you flash,I found issues with ver 6.XXX and went back to ver 5.XXX non touch. In the newer versions including touch USB and mounting the drives didn't work for me. I thought it was my phone because of everything I've done since rooting

Sounds interesting, but wouldn't this explode needing to access the internal SD? i don't know if my PC has a SD Slot, but that is easy enough to fix. I'll try the solution below then this one.. One step at a time. Glad I've got a stumper even if it is a pain in my @ss.
Thanks again to all for the thoughts.

I'm using CWM 5.5.0.4 Still stumped. IF I did something stupid I sure wish I knew what it is. Phone is one week old and of course store claims it is my fault..........rrrrgh. I bought a Galaxy Express to hold me over until I get this fixed. The store offered me a job if I could fix it and as I'm not working, I'm calling in all the troops to help me here if possible........Thanks a million. or a thousand. They don't pay much.I Just checked and the sd card ext will not mount either in CWM and gives errors. I'd like to mod the express I bought to replace this one but am a bit gun shy now. It seems this problem is buried pretty deep.
Stil grateful but in need of help..
Ready to send it off to a JTAG repair shop but as I can still boot into both download and recovery modes there must be something I can do myself to fix this. Anybody out there??????

All you've gotta do is Odin the ORIGINAL GB or ICS from Sammobile. Your soft bricked (no biggie). Your more than likely missing a few important files that GB or ICS could fix. I'd go with GB, IMO

You need to unzip the file and extract the files there's a tar file inside. Use the instructions in konanes thread with the file you have. I can walk you through it better tommorow when I get off work, its very easy.

Well I found it before you replied and low and behold I am able to boot my phone. Now it won't recognize the sim card. I made sure the SIM works in another phone. BTW this is a T-Mobile phone originally but I run on simple mobile. I tried the unlocking process but I did not pay for an unlock code because it won't boot to the unlock code screen. It just goes all the way through and then reports "no sim card Emergency calls only" Thanks for getting me this far. The phone worked fine before I started playing with it. Now I'm really stumped...rrgh.
Thanks

Also of note only flashing T769UMB1 from Sammobile will allow the phone to boot at all. Whet I try to flash the root kernel the phone locks up as always at the blue bar when it completes and when reflashing T769UMB1 I go into CWM and am still unable to mount the SD Cards or USB Storage. Appears my little bit of progress was in vain. When it does boot as mentioned above, I still have "no sim card" Any advice would be appreciated. Being a NOOB, I am unsure if I started out with GB or ICS in the first place it that offers any assistance.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
You need to buy an unlock code, than you can enter it through your dialer.

You skipped the next step. You can't flash from GB to the latest. You have to do it in steps first GB than ICS uvlh5 than uvlmb1, uvlh5 was a prerequisette to the latest mb1. Start over...

I have done as you suggested and really appreciate all the time you have taken to help me out. When I loaded UVLH5 the phone said it was updating 62 apps as it booted and I was in the same predicament. The phone boots and recognizes the internal memory card but will not recoginze my SIM card. I thought it was supposed to ask for an unlock code when it saw the foreign sim as I have seen that on other sites. The phone just boots and says "No SIM card" whether or not one is installed. Would sending it off for a JTAG repair solve my problem? I think I may have screwed the pooch so to speak when I loaded uvimb1. I am determined to fix this phone. It shouldn't be so difficult, famous last words. I think there may be a way to force the dialer to allow me to enter an unlock code, but before I spend more money on the phone I want to make sure that is what I need to do. I also cannot seem to get back into CWM for some reason. Maybe the button sequence has changed with the update. Confirming that procedure would be quite helpful.

You need an account with samfirmware and you should be downloading a .tar.md5 file. Shouldn't be a zip. Just curious, what's inside the zip?
