Looks like unsigned files won't flash.
I guess we know why the Verizon version is so late.
I'm quite angry now.

Have fun guys. Verizon can't use LTE on the 700Mhz and have a locked bootloader.
I'm also contacting Sen. Schumer.
Yea I wasted my upgrade, gave them money, locked my contract, if i return the unopened item i pay a restock fee, if i cancel i pay a cancelation fee, i pay my bill and verizon wireless f*cks you and me. VZW you now suck, every other carrier on the planet, literally speaking has the phone unlocked, and you are the last to release it, kudos and sucking +2 more times,@$$h0l35.

If it's not unlocked in 14 days Verizon will be taking it back from me and I will not be paying a restocking fee because it is defective.

Lol. Defective on what grounds? You weren't able to hack the phone out of the box? Yeah goodluck with that.
Mine is staying in box until a root method is achieved, otherwise it's hitting craigslist and I'm grabbing a Nexus.
F*cking Verizon.
Gd (MOD EDITED) it AT&T! Wait, what?
(Sorry, so used to cussing out Ma Bell that I had to do it)

Wow, even AT&T's version is unlocked. What gives, Verizon? It's just pure greed. They obviously don't want to worry about the minuscule numbers that brick their phones for replacements.

This is definitely weighing in on my decision to keep my gnex. That and I came from sprint to Verizon about a week ago and -- damn this network is fast!!! I was gonna - maybe - return, the gnex and pick up an s3. This the first I've read about a locked bootloader.

This is really disappointing to hear...what the F verizon? And wtf Samsung, where's that backbone now ya jackholes...
Wow! Im on Sprint but I feel your pain. Hopefully a unlocking method is found asap. Truly a bi*ch move by Verizon

Guys.. I am so so soooo sorry. I switched to tmobile at the last second (Verizon customer for 8 or so years)
I knew Verizon would pull this bs.

Hah. Well this sucks for you Verizon people. If I was in your shoes I'd keep it just long enough for an "unlock the bootloader petition" to be ignored, for hacks to fail, and then return it on principle, and tell them why you returned it. as long as the bootloader's not also encrypted, there's a bit of hope.
Gnexus w/ jellybean > locked down sgs3 w/ touchpizz.
Apple is definitely paying Verizon off to do this.
haha im sure it's just Verizon being douches.
Can I cancel my preorder without paying an etf? It hasn't shipped yet. I'm beyond pissed at this bull****. I'm coming from a droid x and specifically wanted AN UNLOCKED ****ING BOOTLOADER.

If it hasn't shipped yet (and you haven't been billed), I'm assuming you can.
If you receive your phone, you have 30 days to activate it.
If you don't activate, no 14-day clock start.
Ouch.. I can't wait to tell my buddy who has Verizon. He is going to crap his pants.
I should have known.
I think I will be selling it and either getting a Galaxy Nexus CDMA, or keeping my Droid 2 Global until my contract is up, then switching to something like T-Mobile's prepaid plan and getting an unlocked Nexus device.
I cannot deal with this, unless Samsung's bootloaders are different from, say, Motorola's, and can be unlocked somehow.
Verizon, the network where you can't have nice things.
Wow that sucksss! I would be beyond pissed.

Edit* I meant GSM not GMS.
OK here is my full question. I currently have a HTC EVO 4G LTE, and I am on a two (2) year contract. If I were to sell this phone and purchase an Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S III, would I be able to have that phone activated on my contract until it's over with? Is this even possible or would I just have to terminate the contract and do something else? I really want to get an unlocked phone instead of being locked into a two year contract on a terrible network. Which now I regret extending the contract I'm on now. I have never owned an unlocked phone so I really am not sure how they operate other than you can use any SIM card in it. Can you even purchase SIM cards for major network carriers here in the states?

Yes the unlocked galaxy would work, but activating it would defeat the purpose of it being unlocked. Your contract should continue as signed just by swapping your sim in your HTC into the unlocked Samsung. Think of it like if you were to break your HTC and they give you a PAYG phone to keep the sim working, only it's not a crap $100 phone it's a galaxy s3.

The reason I want to do this is cause I would rather just sell this phone and buy an Unlocked phone and not pay an ETF right away and or when my contract is up I can switch and keep the same phone.

Or just stick to prepay after your contract. It's way cheaper. I'd say transfer your contract to whoever buys the HTC and get a prepaid sim and the Samsung. There's no fees for transferring you contract. It'll take like 15 minutes at a store if you go together.

Hi,
I'm new here. I have a contract phone with Verizon, it's a Motorola Droid Bionic. Can anyone tell me how to Jailbreak and unlock it so that I can go with a pay-as-you-go network please?
Thank you in advance.
Um......to go on VZW's prepaid plan you'll probably have to wait until the contract is over, or pay the ETF. Then open a prepaid account and use your current phone on it....
I doubt you can use the phone on other networks, and it is CDMA so there is no unlocking, and there is no jailbreaking on Android

Ok, I have a razr hd, rooted. Like a fool I took the update that locked the bootloader. Now I'm wanting to get a new phone that I can unlock the bootloader. I'm finally bored with the razr, want something that I can really play with. So what I'm asking is which phone to purchase, that I can unlock and root. It needs to be of good quality, I'm a union operator so I'm always in the dirt and mud, which i give kudos to Motorola. Good quality....so what does everyone recommend... I'm on verizion with unlimited data. So the hot spot hack is a plus.... Thanks

Well, here's the thing. You better not subsidize your phone through Verizon. Once you do that, you will lose your unlimited data plan as they will force you to the share everything plan. No way around that IF you purchased your upgrade via Verizon.
If you purchase your phone at full price, or get it via eBay or something like that, then you will keep your unlimited data plan, at least, that's how it's been for the past year or so.
You're best bet it to find a developer edition of a phone (such as one for the RAZR HD). Those allow unlocking of the bootloader from the box.
The HTC M8 is another one that allows unlocking of the bootloader.
Be forwared, the HTC M8 on verizon is $750. That's the price you pay for wanting a phone that can have the bootloader unlocked.
Also, if you go the upgrade route, you will lose unlimited data but then you will have tethering for free, but it will eat up your data plan based on how much you get (2gb, 4gb, etc).

I think what I'll do is add a line for like 9.00 then just transfer that line to my phone. I've added and upgraded my lines before, without loosing my data.... I was also looking at that m8, just wanted to get an expert opinion on that. Which I'm thankful you recommended. From what I read, looks like there is limitless possibilities with that phone. Thanks again.

Well, that's how you can bypass it one way, but then you're paying an extra $9 a month for that line PLUS I believe another $30/month fee for the smartphone. That's in addition to your current line for your current smartphone.
After two years, that's $936 and that's not including all the other fees + taxes they charge per month! Plus, you are then no longer stuck in another 2-year contract with them.
Cheaper to just purchase the phone outright if you ask me. That's what I did with my RAZR MAXX that I had before the RAZR HD. In fact, I just purchased it off of eBay for about $200.

I was looking on eBay and saw one M8 going for $500 on buy it now, saw some unlocked 925 and 926's for around $200.
I promise you that you can unlock and S-off the VZW M8, even after the latest OTA. I updated my phone out of the box and was able to unlock and S-off with the methods posted in Verizon M8 forum on here.?
