GB vs. ICS GPS Lock - T-Mobile LG G2x

Can anyone please shed some light to this mystery I'm experiencing...
Why do I get a GPS lock almost instantly on a stock GB rom vs. any ICS ROM out there? I use to get instant GPS lock at some point on MIUI but that also vanished. I've tested all my ROMS in the exact geographical location and I'm not talking about a 1 to 2min wait for a GPS lock, it's usually 5 to 10mins. AOSP flavors where towards the 5min mark and AOKP ROMs were closer to the 10min mark. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
P.S I've tried editing the gps.config on the ICS ROMs with various versions posted in XDA and still had the same results.

When you tried the ICS ROMs did you try them with the new baseband? I am running HFS 1.8 with the new 2012 BB and I get a really fast GPS lock. Maybe try that then test again.

I haven't tried ICS with the new BB. I've never had GPS lock issues though with stock ROMs with old or new BB.

3 Froyo released (Infused, Bionix, Refuse)
1 Gingerbread released (Infused v2)
1 Gingerbread available as source code only, with CWM packages occasionally popping up on IRC (Cyanogenmod 7 port)
I believe there are 2-3 Gingerbread coming. I think Nop was almost finished with a Gingerbread variant of Bionix but was getting nervous about releasing after seeing what happened to gtg's Gingerbread thread.
MikeyMike01 has some stuff in progress, but he doesn't release his stuff until it's 100% - this includes MIUI in early testing stages as of last night.
gtg, LinuxBozo, and Mikey have been working on an interesting project that should give us a LOT of ROM options if it works. I'm not going to say much more as it's an early thing and there's always the possibility of hitting a roadblock.
There's a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff going on at the moment. CM7 seems to be where a lot of the push is right now. One of the few things remaining missing is Bluetooth at this point - unfortunately hciattach causes a kernel mini-panic with almost no useful debugging information.

Is it looking better than the CM7 that is available for the Captivate? I tried it countless times but kept going back to the i9000 based ROMs. Video/graphics was a huge issue. Games would lag and stutter and video playback was a challenge.
(hope that didn't come across the wrong way....)

Media playback seems fine. Parallel Kingdom seems as good as it was on Froyo or the Rogers ROM.
I haven't had a chance to retry Navigation yet.
Bluetooth is 100% broken still. hciattach causes a mini kernel panic when you try to turn on BT.
CM7 is at this point my daily driver. BT was never working for XDAndroid on the HTC Rhodium, so I'm kind of used to not having it.

Fade in animation before lockscreen

On Eaglesblood 2.3.3 1.09 and pretty much any 2.3.3 ROM there's a fade in to the homescreen, and THEN the lockscreen appears. It gives you a peek at the desktop. This is really annoying. Anyone know what i can do about it? Any ways to turn it off? I tried GOlauncher and it's a no go, still the fade in animation.
I believe it's a problem with the OTA itself... I don't think the Launcher has anything to do with it.
It happened on 2.2.2 stock based roms as well.
I don't remember ever seeing a fix posted for it. Its a nuisance for sure.
Hmm. it's quite annoying. Whatever, I re-flashed MIUI, i think im sticking with that.

[Q] Is it worth upgrading to new Baseband?

So yeah is it worth the upgrade considering how many people are having problems with it?
I usually either use Singh UI MIUI or HFP on both threads I see people complaining about issues with new baseband.
I didn't see any post similar to this one so hope it helps some other people wondering the same.

For now:
Only CM7 RC3 supports the audio on the new baseband.
If you try to install other custom rom, you will have audio problem.
CM7 RC3 - have problem with the bluetooth car calling (original stock does not have this issue though).
If you are using other ROMS other than CM7, then no, its not worth it to upgrade now.
I am running HellFire P 2.2 and have not problems with the new BB, I flashed Owains fix, and everything seems to work, haven't tried BT because I don't use it.

You forgot to mention that, the EaglesBlood AOSP ICS Rom also has support for the new BB
Hellfire Sandwich 1.8 also supports the new baseband. Awesome GPS reception but I do have trouble with the data icon. It doesn't show color just the monochrome look like its connecting but I still am able to have data. Weird but true.

[Q] Front facing camera EB Build 4 upside down

Hi guys, I'm using Eaglesblood ICS build 4 and front facing camera seems to be upside down? Also the auto brightness mode doesn't seem to be working, I have to set brightness manually. Otherwise everything works flawlessly, love the room
Anyone else got those issues? or know how to fix? Thanks!
btw I'm on v21y running v21y compatible version of EB Build 4
Every ICS rom for the G2X doesn't have any video encoding. In other words, everything will be screwed up. If you want something stable on your phone get gingerbread. Sooner or later the G2X will get it's video drivers on ICS.
Hope I cleared things up for you
In the forum for EGB it talks about upside down camera on v21y a few pages from the end.

Pretty sure Raver put some different GPS drivers and some other tweaks in that one. Maybe he'll chime it to verify but I remember the GPS working very well on VB. That being said "very well" for this phone is still not that great.
Erik had GPS working well on one of his ICS ROMS as well just can't remember which one right now.

Im curious about this myself. I spent fifteen minutes trying to get a lock. Eff'in shade trees seem to kill my gps signal. If I go half a mile away it will lock faster but it still shows my accuracy bubble in the hundred meter range.
Do you have to be outside to have a GPS lock? Seems like Gingerbread didn't have a trouble locking on while indoors..

I'm on CM9 r8 and it takes 15 sec to lock but the accuracy is far from off and it's the same thing on nexus beam. That's the rom I came from before cm9 looking to fix that problem but I got nothing
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
Honestly the best ROM I've ever used for getting a fast GPS lock was CyanogenMod 7. My phone would get a lock in just a couple seconds even while indoors.
I've tried every ROM on this forum and I have been really happy with Valhalla Black. Valhalla Black+Anthax Kernel+Lightning Zap and the phone run awesome. I usually get a GPS lock in about 5 seconds.
This all cracks me up. Unless you have different GPS binaries or configs on the different ROMs, you're seeing "normal, run-to-run variations" in the times. GPS satellites move relatively quickly across the sky and the "constellation" changes by the minute -- as will the ability of any GPS receiver to lock on them.
I doubt any of the current crop of ICS ROMs have any differences in anything that matters. I'd love to be proven wrong and I'm sure ROM cooks/developers would like to know if one set of binaries/configs performed better than another.
Some of the files involved include (looking at my current AOKP build, your files may vary):
/system/vendor/bin/samsung-gpsd
/system/vendor/bin/gpsd
/system/vendor/lib/hw/gps.s5pc110.so
/system/lib/libclientgps.so
/system/etc/vendor/samsung-agps/secgps.conf
/system/etc/gps.xml
For CM7, CM9, AOKP and perhaps a few more, you can look at the source trees and see if there is any difference, or look at the md5 hash for a quick check.
Arguably, the kernel driver and the location services in the framework could have an effect, but I doubt anyone not building from scratch are modifying those.
RaverX3X did make some suggestions on improving GPS lock time that may still apply.
