Need Help Deciding - General Questions and Answers

I Need Help Deciding between the Samsung Note (i717) and the Galaxy S3.
I have been looking on the web for info on both phones and I have read a lot of things concerning both of them. I have read what people (and reviewers) think of each.
Pros of each phone...
Note
Large screen
S-pen
Screen resolution
I currently have the SGS with the 1GHz CPU and I find the phone pretty fast. Considering I do not play graphic intensive games, I think the Dual core 1.5 on the (Canadian) Note would be plenty fast for my needs.
I have big hands and the Note fits perfectly in there (I tried it in Store). I also need glasses for reading, so the big screen helps as well.
I love the idea of writing notes instead of typing them.
S3
Newest technology
New features (S-voice, Smart Stay, Direct Call, etc)
ICS (Note will get ICS also)
Do I really need a quad core CPU? Am I going to use the extra features that the S3 has? A lot of the new features a phone comes with I find are gimmicks, will I use them?
I like the Note, but I also love the newest and greatest technology available.
On the other hand, the Note 2 is rumored to be coming out in October, should I wait?
AArrrgggh, what to do, what to do???
Ian

I purchased the SIII. It's a wonderful phone and the specs are better then the Note. It's a choice of preference though!
If you want to go for the good specs, take the SIII. Benchmark scores are much higher also!

Seems like u Want the note really.
Gs3 is very nice but with tech advancing so fast by next yr something else would be better

I'd say note fits for you, note is a pretty powerful beast if u r comfortable with its dimension... and it seems u do

Yeah, I guess I do want the Note, but I also want to newer technology.
I know the S3 is faster than the note, but that's thanks to the quad core CPU and the 2MB of ram.

Bought Infuse now I want galaxy s2 (Update: BOUGHT)

I bought my infuse just 3 months after buying the inspire. Luckily i got the inspire for $99 however I did pay full price $599 for infuse. I didn't realize the Galaxy S 2 was out already, now i want to buy the $850 Galaxy S2. It's getting great reviews all around. I can sell my inspire for $350 and take infuse back to best buy and get back $642 with tax, and that's way more then enough to get an international Galaxy S2 without anymore money out of pocket. Has all AT&T bands so 3G and 4G will be no problem. I like my infuse, however if i got the dual core GS2 I think I'd be satisfied with the phone for at least a year rather then 6 months like usual.

I just bought it. It was $849.99 with free shipping, but i upgraded to next day air lol
I'd do it if I was you. You don't need 2 phones. It's not like you can actually use both phones at the same time. So why not get the best phone out there instead of 2 good phones?
The galaxy is an amazing phone. I have both. The screen on the infuse is actually a hit better. Both devices feel amazing in hand. I like the search button on the infuse.
The speed of the gsII is no contest though. Its so fast its ridiculous. Touch Wiz4 is a marked improvement over tw3. Is it worth the $200 premium? Provably. Just not having an at&t logo might be worth that

Do you think the speed is more 2.3 or the two cores? When you hold side by side what one do you want o take off with for the day?
Do you REALLY need dual core? What is the "killer app" that uses dual core currently? Personally, I think dual core will be more important in a year or two, once some actual apps (beyond games) start taking advantage of dual core architecture. Right now, I don't see app developers really relying on dual core as the best platform to develop for - too few customers have them at this point. Just my humble opinion.
I share the opinion of deathpulse.

Without a doubt the SGSII.
It's a better device.
They're both great, but it's a super easy choice.
The processor is much better dual core or not.
TW4 is way way way better.
Android natively utilizes dual cores no matter what people are confused about.
So... how does a dual core make "android" materially "better" now? Does it scroll .0001 ms faster? Is that REALLY worth a smaller/inferior screen and less battery life?

Thanks! I'm more on the AOSP side of things and hopefully wont have to deal with any version of TW with either phone I end up with, already using cm6 mms.apk. So it comes down to cpu and memory but smaller display for 200$ more out of my pocket.... ARGH! Hard decision is hard. I just learned you can hold menu for search on the gs2 so maybe I would be ok with that (I use search as my appdrawer/contact's)
Man so much anger and hostility on these forums, calm down guys. Both phones are great it just depends on what your priorities are.
I hope my posts were not taken as "angry". I am not angry in the least - I am just trying to present a rational view of the two phones. The "big" selling point for the SG2 seems to be "dual core" but I have not heard of a single app that requires a dual core processor. To me this sounds like a GREAT marketing bullet with very little real world application. In addition, dual core processors use more power, so battery life should be lower. Overall, I am hoping someone tells me some solid and rational point that is counter to my view if my view is incorrect. I still have 3 weeks to give the Infuse back to AT&T and purchase an SG2. I do prefer a larger screen (came from the Dell Streak 5") and a longer battery life though so I do not see how the SG2 is in anyway a "better" phone. Yes it has a dual core processor - no I can't see a specific list of things/applications that a dual core would give me today that a single core does not. My answer will likely be different in 6 months time, so I will re-evaluate to see if new apps etc come out that require dual core and purchase the best device when that time comes.
Thoughts?

Galaxy S II:
Dual core cpu (vs. single on the Infuse, but supposedly still gets great battery life)
Faster GPU than the Infuse (but not by a massive amount)
1GB RAM (vs. ~640MB in the Infuse)
1080p video recording and playback (vs. 720p on the Infuse)
Gingerbread out of the box (vs. Froyo on the Infuse)
TouchWiz 4.0 (quite a few nice enhancements over TW 3.0 on the Infuse, and much sexier as well)
But it also has a smaller/less quality screen, correct? What is Touchwiz? I use ADW - does that work with Touchwiz? 1080p is no advantage for me either. Not sure why you would want this in a phone? hmm.... What does 1GB of RAM give me?

Same quality screen, just slightly smaller, which will actually make it look sharper.
Pretty much everything that came on your phone is part of or influenced by the "TouchWiz UI". The launcher, theme, and all of the apps that aren't from the Market or from AT&T (Phone, Messaging, Browser, Gallery, Memo, etc., etc., etc.). So the theme and pretty much all of the software on the Galaxy S II has been tweaked/improved/changed compared to the Infuse. Samsung's latest Android customizations and apps if you will.
Im thinking i will use the infuse until next summer..by then im the res.will be better and maybe quad core and better batt.life and of course i now require a 4.5 screen
So, in your opinion, I should return the Infuse and get the SG2? Any thoughts on which platform will have more development for it? THis matters to me more than Gingerbread and Tocuhwiz...
Also forgot to mention:
Full HDMI mirroring (vs. limited HDMI output on the Infuse)
NFC (only on some Galaxy S II versions, like the ones in Korea)
16GB and 32GB versions (vs. just a 16GB version of the Infuse)
8GB MicroSD card included (vs. 2GB on the Infuse)
What is NFC? I already have a few 32gb micoSD cards - that is a wash. Does the SG2 have network media sharing like the Infuse?

Galaxy S II will have 50 times more development for it.
Don't get me wrong, the Infuse is a great phone, but it's no Galaxy S II. Whether you should get it or not depends on what you can afford. You could buy the Infuse for $200 on contract, sell it for $500, and then get a GSII for $750. Just depends on whether or not the features/improvements I mentioned are worth ~$250 extra to you. If you have money to throw around, definitely do it. If $250 sounds like a lot to you, maybe wait 2-3 months until the Galaxy S II officially comes to AT&T and you can get it cheaper. Or if you're perfectly content with your Infuse and none of the things I listed sound appealing, that's a fine choice too.
Money is really not the issue .

[Q] Samsung Galaxy i9103

Also called Samsung Galaxy Z/R,its the "little brother" of Samsung Galaxy S2,whit a 4,2" Super Clean LCD screen,Nvidia Tegra 2 at 1 Ghz,1GB of RAM,8GB of internal memory and 5mpx of camera whit recording at 720 px.
The quadrant results are about 3000,but what i want to mean whit this? I request the opening of a category exclusive por this phone,is not the best but its a powerful device.
i agree, i want a category for this beautiful phone too
+1. I agree
+1 :d:d:d
i think Galaxy R has better hardware than S2,plus there is no difference on performance, the screen has natural color good for the eye..thickness is ideal for the size, i had s2 but it seems it does not feel good in hand very lightweigth. price is good, even with 5mp camera, what count is the performance is same dual core and better looks.
+1 . A category for this model
+1
we all need category for this model =)
+1
I like this phone too, but when will we see root for it?
Why is this model still a mystery? It practically doesn't even exist on samsung's official website. I understand that there's no root tutorial or custom roms for it. No problem with that (so far though )but come on. It's really hard to believe that such great phone is so unpopular all over the world. I bought it 7 days ago, and I cannot even read what kind of issues I should expect with it. As for now I'm really satisfied, the only thing I noticed was dropped calls once or twice, but the person I was speaking to was clearly out of range (subway )
To sum up, own category is strongly needed!
+1 nice phone
Put in enough requests here and your wish might come true.

No votes = no own category
Guys what's wrong with you? Don't you want to have own category for our device?
Is it really so hard to leave a comment?

I think it's a power machine, and should be his software very similar to galaxy2
I think would be early because samsung start sells in september.
I hope so
just have voted for our i9103 GALAXY R.
well done !
My vote for this !

Does anyone know why the i9103 aren't on samsungs website? Think that's weird ....

Galaxy S III VS Galaxy Note?

Is there really any competition with these phones or does one blow away the other hands down?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
Well since we have no idea what the official specs of the SGS3 are we can't really say. All we have is rumors, but some of the thing we can be fairly certain about are the exynos quad processor, a 720p screen, an 8-10MP camera, and a screen size ranging from 4.5-4.8". The main difference will be the processor and the screen size. If you want a hybrid phone/tablet the note will be best, if you are looking for pure performance then the S3 will give you the best results. You can't say one will blow the other one out of the water without solid spec sheets and an idea of what you want in the phone.
I am excited for Thursday. I hope that we don't only hear about the SGS3, but maybe some intel on when the TMobile version of the Note will be released.
I am going for the Note. Buying an international version is not an option for me financially, so it rules out these quad-core processors, which are probably not needed right now anyway.
I am still using a TMobile G2, and it does everything I need it to do. It only has 1 core I am sure at like 800 mhz, though I am overclocking it right now due to the fact that it makes it easier to run. Either way, that processor can't be as nice a the Galaxy Note's dual-core 1.5 ghz processor.
Quad cores are just being used in desktop computers really, so it's no surprise that you shouldn't really NEED it for a phone. I don't know the official technicalities to backup my statement, but it seems common sense.
I will look forward to having the GNote specific applications, S pen, and screen real estate. Can't wait!
S3. Only reason to get Note over GS2 is screen/pen. Not worth it imo.

Not a fair competition at all. S3 should be compared to phones of the same calibre, like the HTC One X.
im sure someone will do a competition of these two phones. Even whitout the S3 full specs we all know who will win.
Quadcore is more than necessary for me
One phone!
HTC Evo Lte dual core s4 which is really fast.. It beats tegra 3 in some tests.

i think the SG S3 will be the same as the Note ( pen included ) but with a 4.6 screen
Each have their pluses and minuses. The GS3 will have the latest and greatest hardware and ICS out if the box, but the Note will have the bigger screen and S-Pen.
But seriously you're considering a phone already 6 months old vs a phone that will just be announced tomorrow. I love my Note and it has worked flawlessly for me, but I know after tomorrow it won't be the best hardware wise compared to the GS3. But that doesn't mean the Note is a slouch at all. The good thing though is I have my work phone with Sprint and my upgrade is June 30, so I may pick up the GS3, so best of both worlds!

IiI can relate to the question I have a gsii and I really lobe the note. I will wait to deer what the new galaxy offers this weekend. I live near the brand new Samsung shop in Westfield next to the Olympic site and they reckon that the should have demo models this Saturday following the event tonight.
I only wish there were a gnote2 being announced. I love the idea of stylus
and big screen.
I have high expectations for GS3. Let's see what they have to offer for us today.
Anyway, I like my GS2 better than Galaxy Note already, so it seams clear to me that GS3 will also be better.
hummm, i like Galaxy S III better.
How do you like HUA WEI Ascend P1
BTW, I'm still waiting for media pad 10 fhd of HUA WEI
There will be quite a big difference according to the specs!
Well we will see at 7pm today
The SGS3 will be more popular than the Note, because the SGS3 is the direct concurrention of the HTC One X, iPhone etcetera.
If a phone gets really popular, you get extra things from the producer, like firmware upgrades etcetera.
Pick SGS3 after 7pm.
PS it is being expected the SGS3 will arive at the stores in approx 7 days
hahaha note vs a quadcore baby doesnt stand a chance find out today at 7:00pm GMT London time
according to leaked specs the s3 will have a 12mp camera a 4412 quadcore processor clocked at 1.5ghz
a mali 400(same as in the s2 just clocked much higher)
a 4.8 inch 720p HD regular RGB matrix not pentile
wireless charging (big maybe wuold be cool but unlikely)
2mp front cam
touchwiz bullcrap on android 4.0.4
a ceramic back
we all will know in few hours time ~~~ *wait patiently*

[Q] Troubles in choosing right smartphone. Need help.

Hi,
It's time to buy a new smartphone. My previously smartphone was a Samsung Galaxy S3 and I really enjoyed it, but I sold it.
Now I want to buy either Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE 4G or Samsung Galaxy Note2 4G. The only problem is that I find it hard to decide which one to choose, which one is better, so I want to see some reviews or/and opinions from the users of it. And some cons/pros thanks.
What I want to know the most is: Which: Processor(CPU) & Graphics -is better?
Comparison

They have the same graphics chip and the Note's processor is just clocked a bit higher than the S3. Real world performance should be very close so it basically comes down to the size. Which size do you prefer? Is S-Pen a must?

Rocking a Liberty  (waiting for the Nexus 4 to restock). With your choices, I would go for the Note 2 since I play games often on my devices. I usually play on my tablets, but it won't hurt to be on the go with a phone . But as it is, to each their own .

Galaxy S3 vs Nexus 4

I'm contemplating selling my Red S3 and buying the Nexus 4 in its place, is this advisable? I used to be on top of my game with phones but fallen behind, so any pros or cons of each device would really help.
Cheers.

Many of my friends bought s3 and want to sell it.
System errors or sth like that i don't really know why.
Nexus 4 ist in my opinion very good and cheap .
you get the updates at first and the over smartyphone later
But wait it will come a new Nexus phone from Motorola and Google
I switched from a OneX to the Nexus4. I'm so happy that I did it.
Let's say it like this: If it's OK for you to only have 16gb non-expandable storage and you can live with a bit a inferior camera, then the Nexus4 is so much better.
I have to admit, I just CAN'T live with 16gb. and I hate the the quality of the camera, though, I still like my Nexus4 more than my OneX.
I have only 1gig of storagespace free.. **** it.
The Nexus is just too good, there's no device I can think of wich I would like to use more.
It's incredible how much smoother that thing is compared to other droids, really.

I have an S3 and I looked at the Nexus4 in a store last week. I would say wait for the next one, unless you like the openness of the N4. Don't get me wrong, it's a great device and very cheap, but if you already have an S3, I personnaly don't see the point in switching. Both devices are great.
i think that S3 is the best becuase it is quad-core 1.4 Ghz and it is very fast..

Coming from someone who has never seen the specs on an N4...
S3 > N4
Oh, in my opinion, google did some basic matters false on the nexus 4. why for example do they push the user to use the google cloud? not adding enough space internally and lack the possibility to use a sd-card is ridiculous. True, the S3 hast some shortcomings too, but choosing from this 2 devices, I would definitly go for the s3.
Everyone have his own opinion
Galaxy 3 is way better than nexus 4. My comment is based on personal experience.

Are you crazy????
Sure the gs3 may cost more but it's got an SDCARD SLOT!!!! how much do you think you can last on 16gigs without an sd card???
Plus it's got a bigger screen and a faster.processor. the only reason it gets slowed down is because.samsung hasn't done a great.job at configuring hardware. So , disable startup junk, clean, overclock if you wish, speedhack, change kernel and rom.
you'll see the difference between nexus 4 and sgs3. Nexus 4 is a step below. I did my good deal of research a while ago, im happy i bought the s3.
the bigger screen is easier to use.
Ive got my 2800milliamper battery in it so it lasts a lot.
It's fast.
I know the nexys 4 is a good device, i won't deny it. But it's lacking much in hardware compared to gs3. Not only does it have a smalle screen, but part of this screen is taken up by softwarw buttons. while galaxy has got all the free screen space to use.
Dont get nexus!!!!!

In my opinion there is no contest on which phones better than the S3 or nexus 4.... S3 by miles, more storage, better camera, faster, better screen, newer phone & better technolgy! The only thing which is bad about the S3 is the plastic back case on the back of the phone. Plus this is like the same old question when it comes to phones.... which is better? iPhone or S3? Please dont get me started on the outdated software on the Apple iphone
But seriously its youre choice so think hard do some homework on it & try for youre self
But like some before have said its not worth getting a S3 at this time because the S4 is on the way.

Deanr spoke.my mind. I believe he still has his galaxy though...anyways it would be wise to waiit for s4 to come out and then buy the s3 when prices really drop.
Also i can't understand why people keep making comparisons with android devices and iphone. There is NO comparison whatsoever. How can ios be 'cool' if there are just minor customization options?? Plus apple keeps blocking the jailbreak releases.making ios even more useless.
only things keeping ios alive are its apps and jailbreak. They'll soon be forgotten.....

See my experience thus far is nothing installs on SD, it gets sluggish so fast, there are definitely issues, I've not rooted it, as much as I want to, because it potentially voids my insurance cover. It frustrates me as the S2 did the app install so well but the S3 not so well.

You serious? The only thing you're right is the better camera and more storage.
Both, the screen and the CPU are much worse than the N4.
Better tech? whaaaat? The screen has a pentile matrix and exynos is really behind the snapdragon S4. Also, the newer phone is the nexus.
Don't tell things that you don't know exactly plz.
All you samsung users, your devices are awesome, granted, but they will never be as smooth as the nexus line.
OP, go try both phones. It's a matter of taste. you won't feel a real difference in daily use anyway, except you're a ROM flasher like me, then you should get a nexus by any means, because the development of the nexus line is so good.

R: Galaxy S3 vs Nexus 4
You must be kidding me!! You're posting from a nexus 7 how can you say nexuses are fast? They are stable, they are smooth, but they will never be as fast as galaxy esses! (See benchmarks).
If a galaxy s3 a.d nexys 4 flash the same kind of rom and both optimize it for their phone, the s3 will be blazing fast and the nexus just smoother.
Sure nexus 4 has a good screen, maybe youre right and its even better quality, but its smaller and part of it is taken up by the soft buttons. Too bad, but i get to use all of my screen space. No lag at all (cause i know how to configure my s3). The only prpblem with s3 is it has been configured really badly by samsung...

You must be kidding me!! You're posting from a nexus 7 how can you say nexuses are fast? They are stable, they are smooth, but they will never be as fast as galaxy esses! (See benchmarks).

posting from a S3
I have a n7 and a n4 y'know. Browsing XDA on my tab is a bit cooler xP
Are you a benchmark kiddy? benchmarks say nothing. and I got many friends with S3's, because samsung and apple dominates switzerland. There are almost no other models out here except S2's S3's and iphones.
Benchmarks of the exynos chips are not better than the ones from snapdragon s4 pro. Anyways, what matters in daily use is how smooth the phone is, not the speed and fps it can get in benchmarks (though, the S4 destroys the exyons when software is on same level).
Screensize/screen-estate? Since I own my n4 i never used onscreen-softbuttons. I'm using gestures with GMD Gesture control and deactivated the softbuttons on AOKP. That way I have the full screen of the n4 available, wich is really cool at a lcd-density of 240.
I don't say the S3 is bad. I just don't get the point why someone should get the S3 above the n4 when memory and camera don't matter.
R: Galaxy S3 vs Nexus 4
Ur right if memory and camera (ive never been an hd camera fan, but ive noticed having 8mp makes me wanna use the camera more) are not important to the user, nexus 4 is best chioice.
But even thought im not a benchmark freak, and even though i too have friends with galaxies and a friend with an s3 that has made his phone so laggy i had to get him a new rom and kernel, so obviously the speed of the device depends on users smartness, im NOT giving up on s3 performance. Wanna benchmark-battle?

I also know some guys with a S3 or S2 wich lags like hell. I don't know what they are doing, but those probs are mostly fixed when I flash them some good things.
Speed and user-experience depends on user smartness, that's really true
No benchmark battle for me, because my experiences are that kernels wich do better benchmarks mostly give worse userexperience in daily usage, but more fps in games.
But you can sure go and read some exynos 4412 vs s4 pro reviews, there are enough of them..
