[Q] Higher Data use? - HTC One S

Is anyone else experiencing higher data usage? I'm coming from a N1 on cyanogen and I never went over 2gb in a month to now in about 3 weeks I'm at almost 4gb doing the same type of stuff. On my usage online its showing my phone pulling anywhere from 30-80mb at times when I'm not only asleep but on wifi. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Same here but you need to remember they want you to use that data, the whole use dropbox and not having an SD card. It's to get more people on the 10gig plan or so it seems to me.
If you watch stuff you will see it uses more data for the same stuff, I used to stream music using google music on my HTC Leo and seldom every went over my cap in a month. Now it's like in 2 weeks I am pushing well past it. So I think there is something going on. But that's just my two cents. Maybe find an app to track data that isn't put in there by htc or tmob.

In my usage report for the last week, Android OS is the 4th item with 16MB...A little curious, but nothing that would result in 4GB in a month. The rest of the top 10 are apps, mostly streaming music, etc and add up to about 200MB for the week.

Had also a high drain this month. Used over 80% this month right now. With my Desire it was 80% mostly two or three days before the end of the month. Dropbox soundcloud and co. are only sync on wifi...
Gesendet von meinem HTC One S mit Tapatalk 2

I installed my data manager, going to give it a try. I'm mostly waiting on the custom roms to get the kinks worked out, I miss CM.

Update for T Mobile My Account now available

I was just on the market and I saw that there is an update for the t Mobile My Account app. Has anybody installed this yet? I'm wondering if this fixes the WiFi issue I had with the 5.6 update freezing DNS which is the reason why I rooted my G2X. I'm also hesitant because I currently have the my account frozen.

I typically try to avoid T-Mobile software like the plague... no convenience is worth having their programming gum up my phone.
I'll remain hopeful though that T-mobile will start getting their act together starting with updating their apps and fixing them proper. Despite my angst against the topic I'm still curious regardless.
My wife's s4g got it last night but not on my g2x
I downloaded it last night. It is still a buggy mess. It takes forever to sync with Tmo and half the features do not work. Billing and Plan still do not sync. It just gives a message to call to get the info after about five minutes of doing nothing.
Activity/data used does work which is nice for those stuck on the 2g plan.
Still a horrible app...Delete.

It is even buggier than before, I might try restoring the old version
Well I'm glad I didn't update
Based upon the results so far I'm glad I left that update alone.
Uninstalled. That thing sucks. How hard is it for a company the size of TMo to build a half decent app?
I had to uninstall updates then reinstall and reboot. After all that mine syncs all fields just fine and I find it to be a great resource to monitor my usage since no matter what 3g watchdog says, T-Mobile will be throtling me for what they see pass-through for data. Its also super easy to pay my bill with.

I didn't even have to do that; I just updated it in the market and it all just works fine for me. (I don't use it very often and didn't immediately open it after the update, so it's probable that I did have a reboot in there somewhere between the update and the first time I used it.)
dunno why u guys are having so much trouble with it. works fine for me even before the update

Should I go to the Charge or Revolution?

Verizon offered me a Droid Charge or LG Revolution if I wanted for free for my Bolt because of the issues with the random restarts. Anyone know how good those phones are? I really love my Bolt but they and Htc both said it can be anywhere from 1-2 months to fix the issues and get the update out.
If you are upset with your bolt because of restarts and you are set of getting rid of it I would go with the Charge as the most comparable phone to the Bolt. LG's phone has a 5mp camera on the front which is a downgrade and i am not sure about memory on it but the charge has about the same specs. Personally I still think the bolt is the best of the three phones but I am not a big fan of the plastic feel of both the Charge and the Revo.
Final thoughts. I'd say root your bolt and stick it out. But if you want to change go with the Charge.
Yea I love my Bolt its the best but I might stick it out I'm thinking of going and checking the charge out today and see how it feels to me.

if you're rooted. try out a gingerbread rom and the new radio. should fix the reboot issues.
I'm thinking of going back to samsuck as well. I miss amoled and ok battery life. How'd you get them to offer you that? I need to bypass tier 1. I'm tired of their every solution being a factory reset

They won't just offer something like that. You'll be lucky to get a new phone if you are outside of the 14 days. I had to fight to what seemed like the death just to get a new replacement for my TB. I've learned my lesson on contracts. Full retail from here on out. If what wouldn't have started the process to leave and pay my 900 in etf's for my 4 lines, then I would have probably still gotten another junk refurb. I haven't even gotten close to getting a comparable warranty replacement for my TB.
I would stick with the thunderbolt. When I first bought the tb I was seriously getting restarts randomly about 10 times a day. Did a little research then did this.
Root phone. Load das bamf remix 1.7 rom with the kernel that came with the full rom dl. Downloaded lte onoff and left lte off until I actually needed it on for heavy downloads or streaming. Changed cpu settings to 1.2ghz with a governor of smartass.
I did not get a random reboot since. I started using bamf right when they released 1.6.3. I get 12-14 hour battery life on work days with light usage. Light usage is checking facebook notification every now and then. Texting back and forth here and there. Stream music to my bluetooth. And finally watching half an hour of sports or movies streaming on justin.tv.
I love this phone... Super amoled screen is bomb tho.

Lte onoff is not required because it is in the bamf toolkit.
Edit: I'm using stock battery.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I would go with what others said and root it to load bamf. Been running bamf and have had no random restarts and loving the bolt.
That said if you really want to switch then I'd go with the charge. It feels kind of cheap, but its a phone that works well out of the box.
The lg revolution's software is kind of buggy and laggy from my experience
My Bolt rebooted 10 times yesterday.. Called Verizon and they are sending a new Bolt. They did not offer me a Charge or any other phone. I just hope my 3rd one is a charm.

Im glad Im not having all these issues. My TB works great! No issues at all.
If you're tired of the Thunderbolt, then get the Droid Charge, hands down.
I've never had a single reboot and I got my TB on EBay!

I'd go for a Charge. The Revolution sucks. I played with both of them at the store for a while. Plus Bing sucks.

All I did was tell them that I have had it replaced 4 time which I have for this and other reasons and said that I've done over 10 factory wipes and nothing worked and told them that customer service said that tech support could change the phone to something else or the loyalty department but if they did I would have to stick with it and then the guy transferred me to the supervisor and she said she would do it but if I did and they send me the other phone I can't go back even after they fix the issues with the Bolt. So I just had her put it in the notes so that I could think about it and that was it. I even went last night to a vz store to play around with the charge and see if she did put the notes and they were there.

Ics question! :-)

I hope people don't just pass this off as another annoying ics question. But with the ram issues this phone has, can we use a swap partition like in Linux and the old CM5/6 days on the G1. Sorry if this was already asked, the search function on this app doesn't allow to search individual forums.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
what ram issues do you have? I have 200 available most of the time, with about 10 apps running most of the time... I've read up on the using swap partition for the phone and it's not useful, in my opinion just unnecessary. Are you completely out running on zero ram available?
See what apps run in background. Google voice eats ram if you don't force close it often, Facebook will eat it if you enable background notifications.
Some keyboard apps also eat ram... check and take a picture for us.
no matter what rom i use it works great for a day or so then suddenly it just slows down. i do power cycle the phone at least once a day. and have tried the ram manager on the play store, and just killing things manually. the ram wouldnt hit zero at all, but it would get low for like 10-15 seconds at a time. my biggest concern is that i cant answer a phone call right away, it always lags for about 10-15 even up to 30 seconds before i slide the ring to answer. and when i look at the ram afterwords its below 100. i rolled back to GB about a week and a half ago because of this. (i bounce back and forth)
Don't have the issue myself on any ICS rom, the answer issue isn't anything new its old news most roms have fixed it. We would still need more info to help you though.

Are you the kind of guy with 15k songs and 10k txt msg saved up with 5k pictures with all apps like fb open??

Sorry for the long wait for a response. I'm getting ready for a new job and I switched my phone back to GB for that reason a while ago. When I get back today ill reinstall an ICS rom, what one would you guys suggest I use? And btw I only have about 15 songs on my phone, 250 pictures, and I delete my txt msgs every 2 weeks.

[Q] Ram Usage

Hi all,
First of all, I did some research, and didn't find anything related to my question (a special issue I'm having I guess).
Second, I know that Android uses as much Ram as possible, and the more ram it uses, the better it is (but that's not my case).
Here's the problem :
It happened last month, and will happen soon again.
With time, Ram consumption increases in my Nexus 5 daily, bit by bit until only <100Mo is free. This leads to the keyboard not opening up for example, because the Ram is full.
Compared to my Nexus 4 (rooted, PA 4.2b4 [even though I don't think it makes any difference]), apps stay active >200 hours (facebook, viber, ebay, Swiftkey etc.), while on N4, Swifkey is active since 22hours ago for example.
I don't really reboot my Nexus 5 (stock, unrooted), maybe this is the issue ?
When it happened a month ago, I uninstalled a game and it fixed it, until now.. Available Ram is roughly 600Mo, and it's shrinking each day.
I hope I didn't forget anything, if you think I did, please do ask.
Thank you for any suggestions (and for reading this, while you're at it.)
rebooting your phone daily, or every couple days, will keep your phone running at its best. if you dont feel like taking the 20-30 seconds to reboot your phone every once in a while, then deal with it.
Yeah I always recommend regular reboots. Also, maybe you have an app that has a memory leak

Nah, nah, sounds like a good compromise. I'd rather reboot the hell out of it than stay keyboardless..

About memory leaks.. I have no idea, I only have "the basics" installed. I'll do a quick analysis just in case.
Cheers ! :good:
Root man! Unlock the N5's true potential flash a lightweight ROM like slim / carbon

A9 has become very slow

Have noticed over the last couple of days that my phone has become very slow.
It's a sim free phone in the UK and completely stock. I have not installed anything new app wise or made any kind of changes I can put it down to. When first purchased I found the phone to be very snappy in and out of apps despite the mid range hardware and 2gb ram.
I have no more than a dozen as installed . Just don't understand what's going on as it seems like there is a delay when you select anything or switch in and out of the app tray etc.
Rebooting it doesn't help?
Funny enough it does seem to have improved things. It was almost like the old Samsung slow down the get on the galaxy phones. Very strange, will just have to monitor it and see how things go.

What ext sd card you are using? And did you merge it with internal sd card?
If not and your phone is just as simple and clean as you mentioned just earse it to factory default by going to reset

Am using a SanDisk ultra 64gb card but have not used apps etc on it as don't really have many downloaded apps and didn't see the needed to free up space.
Don't really want to completely reset my phone.
Will see how it goes
Ive had the same issues, not sure why... cant even get google maps to load properly and Spotify locks up everytime I try to change song.. not good HTC!!

My doesn't get hot, it just stupidly slow, and really annoying, but O2 haven't related the 6.0.1 Firmware so maybe that might fix the performance? otherwise I might root it and overclock it a little...
Really annoying as its only 4 months into a 2 year phone contract!

In that case i suggest you to contact htc support or your carrier to demande a new device.
try root thing at last when you have no solutions or into a dead end.
Because root will remove the warrant.

I have 4 HTC devices, all of them are no issues.
Try to use a Task killer app, perhaps the 2GB ram have reached max capacity, kill some apps that you are not using and for the love of God disable Google bloatwares like hangout.google books...
My A9 has become extremely slow in the last couple of days.. I have tried dumping cache, cleansing apps, but nothing is working .. it seems that alot of people are experiencing the same thing at the same time .. what is going on ? This phone is becoming an embarrassment for the price I paid for it.
Yeah mine too. It's starting to drive me mad.
Texting is getting worse. Starts fine and just doesn't seem to keep up.
mine too... i'm starting to think about changing rom to cyanogenmod...
It's somehow weird to see that most people who are complaining here are new created account just to say bad things about the A9....SAMSUNG PAID DUDES AGAIN
I kinda have same issue, the phone has been turning off on it's own the last couple of days and then one time when i turned it on a lot of it's features aren't working, notifications doesn't show up on the notificationbar and i can't use shortcuts for gps,etc from it anymore and the onscreen home button doesn't get me home and the touch button doesn't too,it so slow and takes time to load the apps so i can tap on one of em,idk what happened, please help!
I bought one for my girlfriend, HTC one A9 16gb but with more than 5 completely lost... At the beginning everything was just fine, great speed and performance.
Because of it's lack of memory I decided to use the SD card as internal storage, micro SD 64Gb Sandisk class 10. After the format the HTC showed alert about the speed of the SD, it could not be enough fast.
After reinstalling apps and moving the heaviest to the SD it started to be very slow, WhatsApp took too much to open and even Google maps couldn't load properly, taking ages to work.
I ended up taking the SD out, using it as normal external storage. It went back to normal and now works good, the only thing now is that she only had 1.5Gb left for the apps and it runs out super fast just because of the thumbnails images and cache.
Has anyone tried with a high speed SD? Or has noticed this same problem?
