[Q] Battery Indicator Continuously Blinking!!! - General Questions and Answers

Need Help!!!
I am on Resurrection Remix v2.2. Recently I switched off my phone and kept it for charging night long. When i restarted the phone, the battery indicator was continuously blinking as if the phone was on charging, although it was not connected to any device. Also the "USB Debugging Connected" popup does not go away from the phone even when I disconnect the phone. This has really become irritating now.
Can someone please guide how to rectify this. I've flashed, wiped, cleared everything, but nothing seems to work. Is this a hardware related issue?
Regards
Supra

Probably.. take a look at your micro USB port, are the pins nearly touching the bottom? When this happens.. the phone thinks it's got a USB connected. Turn the phone off and very gently use a thin needle to puch it up slightly, push up from the middle, you want it about 3/4 of the way from the top. Bear in mind it could slip back, and eventually need repair.

I had this happen to me, I solved it by plugging in my charging cable and slightly moving it back and forth.

- Restart your phone and see if it works
-If you have clockworkmod installed then go to its recovery and clean battery file
-If u use stock flash recovery and if you are rooted then you can download a app called Battery calibration and it should do a trick.
-If these things dosent work the then format your phone
-If formatting dosent work then flash you stock or custom again via oidn or clockworkmod.
Good Luck,

I tried the first three tricks... The problem is after flashing it does not blink... but once i connect and disconnect from my PC, it again starts blinking... what i noticed was the blinking goes away after around half an hour!!!
Will try the last option though

Thanks... Your advice worked... Apparently the pin was pushed down... fixed it...

Galaxy Note Battery Indicator Continuously Blinking,
This happened to me after a long weekend with lots of moisture and dirt around where my phone had some water drops on it. Just updated to ICS 4.04 via Kies so I thought it was the update or the water. I put the phone in rice overnight but still had the blinking light along with erratic start up. Once again XDA comes to the rescue!! The toothbrush cleaning worked. I just ran a nylon toothbrush back and forth in the charging/usb port for about 20 or 30 seconds and all is fixed. I was about to get the phone replaced by Ensquared which would have cost me $100 deductable. Saved me all that mony and time, THANKS!

i have a samsung galaxy j700F phone.
today in the morning when i checked it, the battery meter is blinking when i connect it to the charger and when i disconnect it its refusing to start.
please help me out.
thanks in advance.

galaxy s 2 acting strangely, battery drain and randomly going into driving mode

I got my sgs2 about a month ago and its been like a dream, battery lasts for a long time phone runs ultra smoothly no glitches and nothing weird has been happening, but these last few days its just been really weird.
1) it started randomly going into driving mode, i dont even know how to activate it or what it does, but i think its draining my battery
2)When i was watching a tv show on my phone it thought that there was an hdmi cable connected and wouldnt let me hear anything through my headphones. i exited it several times but it still though there was a cable connected. Then i went straight home and quit it from the task manager and it worked with the headphines but that might have been a coincidence.
3)When i connect the charger it takes a while to realize that its charging and sometimes stops charging and says that the battery is too hot or too cold but when i feel the phone it feels completely normal.
4)When i connect the usb cable, other than taking a while to realize that its connected to a charger it doesnt realize that its a usb so i cant transfer files with my computer which i do often
5)I pressed home before and it took me to some sort of clock which i imagine is for a dock but i have no such thing
6) Even after using the phone for a while and using several apps the android os has used 59% of my battery, when usually its the display that uses about 30 or 40%
none of these things had happened before and now they randomly started all at once, i havent downloaded any shady apps so i doubt its malware
any ideas?
thanks
Are you using a stock firmware or custom?
Have you tried resetting back to factory default?

seems like majority of your problems are linked with the micro USB port, try resetting your phone and see if that helps. This is weird though.
It happened once to me on my sgs but that was because I inserted the charging pin without realising it was wet but it went back to normal a few days later and I changed my charger.
i was also starting to think it would be a micro usb problem,
would a factory reset fix it?
if so how would i back up my apps so that i have the same apps with the same progress on them, is it even possible?
or should i just wait and see if it goes back to normal?
I am also having this issue now. I've tried a factory reset with no effect. The phone is now largely unusable. Did you get a resolution? If so, how?
im having the same problem too .. wish it's just a software issue!!
the problem solved itself after a couple of days, i took out the battery and left the phone alone for about a day and after it worked fine again, not sure if it was the time or leaving it without battery but its working normally again
I'm having this exact problem - phone switches into driving mode, then says MTP is connected - then it switcheds to a strange lock-screen I have never sen before. It's really strange. I flashed a nandroid backup from a few months back and still the problem is there. I'd flash back to stock and send it in - but I can't connect to Odin via USB because of the problem. Is there anyway to convert a Stock rom to a CWM flashable file?
I'm desperate to get this sorted.
Experiencing the same. Has anyone a proven solution for this?
My phone, sorted itself out - should I say my wife sorted it out - by mistake. What I think she done was hold down the home button, and then pressed the power off button together and held them untill the phone switched off. When my phone came back on again - she had somehow removed the -Exclamation Triangle of the kernel counter and removed the problems from this post - that I'd been experiencing for abouyt 5 months prior.
Go figure - I now have a SGS2 that works beautifully again and has also had any kernel counter and Custom Rom flashing notifications removed altogether. I wish I knew why this worked, as I'm sure their are many who would like to remove the Triangle without a jig.
The other option that seeemd to work for other people was to clean the MicroUSB port of the device with a dry, clean toothbrush - though this did nothing for my problem. Good luck -I know how frustrating it is.
Help Please
Guys, I am Facing the EXACT same problem.
1.Driving mode on/off automatically
2.Showing a lockscreen which shouldn't have existed on this planet.
3.Hanging up unconditionally. Have to restart phone.
4.Sudden "mtp connections" and because of that "Media Scanner"
I own a Galaxy note just 1 month old! I was so angry that i wanted to sell this. But i couldn't adapt to any other smaller screens so, guess ill try fixing this.
1.It definitely is something related to usb port (Since i cannot charge my phone, i use an external charger)
2.Took my beloved to a samsung service centre, they said phone is waterlogged and showed me the motherboard, saying"IC MIGHT be damaged"
3.Cost for repair - $200
4.Cannot afford that. I am guessing they were bluffing cause i saw the shiniest motherboard ever
5.Please fix this, or ill be stuck with a Nokia 500 !!
6.I can, however afford changing the usb connector, anyone successful with that?
Edit: Did my homework and found out that its definitely a usb port problem. Solution:Clean the usb port. Ill try try it and get back to you ppl. Oh and about 20% of the world's population is facing the same problem.
Edit(2): SOLVED!!!
1. Turn Off phone
2. Remove battery.
3.Take a Brush with hard bristles(Toothbrush/Artist's Brush)
4.Take a pin.
5.Take your own sweet 15mins to perfectly clean the micro usb port using the brush. Nicely and Tidily, give all possible strokes to flawlessly remove any dirt in there.
4.Then take your pin(Be careful here) and gently insert it into the gap between that small metallic micro slab and the bottom part of the usb Connector and gently move it up, VERY GENTLY!!!
5.Clean the battery's charging plates using a cloth, i used my own T-Shirt.
6.Put battery in and REBOOT.
7.Clean the charging pin of the charger using the safety pin/Brush or both.
I have it on for 15mins and no problems. Removed and put the charger again and again, still no problem. After waiting for 1 week, i am able to charge it using its charger! Now lets see whether it lasts......:-/
Edit(3): So, my phone acted up again last night, with driving mode and car dock. I used the pin solution, No problem till now. its Peacefully charging. Bah! it really is annoying
Edit(4): Now, its been 24 hours since my last solution, and phone hasnt acted strange. I guess after another 12 hours ill rule out the permanent solution. Which i used.
same here
Well.. I'm having similar issue. Battery drain and random driving mode/voice search sometimes. It all started after last OTA update and rooting without changing a ROM to custom. I've clean out USB port and no result. Maybe it's time to scan system with AV or unroot device...

I had the same issues 2 weeks after i bought my galaxy s2. Took it to Samsung customer care and they replaced the micro usb port. Haven't had a single issue since.
PS: Try to dry out the port and the phone if it is a water logging issue. I used a hair drier to do that. Luckily the tab that indicates water damage hadn't changed colour.
Had same issue with my Samsung Galaxy Note - randomly going in and out of driving mode, used a dry, soft toothbrush to clean out the USB Charging port, so far so good.
Make sure to flick the bristles of the toothbrush back and forth with your thumb first as you might see a lot of dust fly off of it.
Don't use anything hard like a pin or needle as you might scratch the contacts.

It's just a software problem, the reasons might be:-
1) you might have opened and closed some huge apps randomly and very rudely..
2) You are low on space on the internal MMC Card
3) Your phone might be performing the restarting apps re scheduler
Solutions:-
1)Factory Data reset will not help as the cache section might be corrupt.. neither the android 3e will help...
2) a)Use odin and download the Latest firmware package from Sammobile's Website.
b) for tutorial on flashing, go http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2488942.
c) Do not touch the phone after processes and restart was observed...
d) Again get into download mode and re flash the same Firmware again...
e) Restart the phone holding the HOME key, (it won't do anything by itself)
f) it will surely fix your Phone
3) Message me if any problem persists...

Bootloop, nothing works. Please help!!

I have been running Zeus Rom for months now and everything has been fine. Until today. I was just on my phone today and it cut off. Then it went into a boot loop. Won't go past the Samsung screen. I can't find any solution to get the phone into download mode. I have read everything. Switched computers, tried different ports and even switched usb cords. Even tried several combinations of buttons to no avail.
Here is what happens when I try to get into download mode:
I hold down up and down volume, insert battery and then plug in usb cord. I see a spinning wheel and empty battery sign. Then it cuts right back off and does it all over again. Could this be a battery issue or what?
My phone has been bricked before I fixed it with no problems. This has got me stumped. Something is preventing me from getting into download mode and keeping me in boot loop.

To get to download mode, be sure to plug in USB before putting the battery in, and keep holding down the volume buttons down for some time.
If the battery isn't showing a charge, though, then let it charge. If it isn't charging, try another cable, and then maybe a new battery.

Tried another battery I had, not fully charged, and the first time I put it in the bottom buttons lit up and the phone booted up, only to cut back off and do the same thing again with the boot loops. It too showed this battery to be completley dead. I am not sure if that is so or not as I have't used this battery in a while.
I am charging both batteries now to try to get them charged. I have one in a wall charger and hte other in the phone plugged into the wall. The one in the phone is still showing no charge as the phone keeps cutting on and off and showing the battery sign witha spinning circle.
I have no idea whats going on but need to find out soon!

You dont have to plug it in before puting the battery in...i never do...
How i get in download
1) pull battery
2) put battery back in
3) hold volume up + down simutaniously
4) while holding volume plug usb cord into phone
it sounds like he is pretty much doing it the way i do except for the volume he does before putting in battery...should work either way
Could it be a problem with your motherboard/mainboard whatever you wanna call it? When did you get the phone? If its been under a year i would file warranty with samsung...not att. If it is the mother board they probably will never even know its rooted or anything since it wont even turn on...and no software will fix it...
There still is a chance they will find out its rooted and has a custom rom on it...but i think the chances of that are highly unlikely...so i would go for warranty...

UPDATE:
This is so weird. After nothing working all day, I finally remembered something. About 15 mins before my phone started this today, I dropped my phone while getting out of my truck. I didn't think anything about because I have a double layer case on it. But this evening, I remembered that and I thought maybe that had somethign to do with it. So what else could I do? Bang the phone on the ground again. So I tapped it a few hard times on the ground and sure enough the lights on teh bottom on the phone came on and it booted up and has stayed up.
Apparently the drop this morning has done something inside the phone. Do you guys have any idea what this could be? What could dropping the phone have to do with a boot loop and what could be solved by banging it on the ground again?
Maybe it is luck, but it is working. I just feel it will happen again soon as something is wrong inside the phone.

Oh, okay, cool. I always do it how I described, so it must work either way. I was just trying to help the OP not go into the battery charging screen.
And to the OP: Bummer, it sounds like you have some busted hardware, but hopefully it will keep working now.

if you're under warranty, flash a stock package and warranty.
if you're not under warranty, learn how to drop your phone correctly.

Oh my god. the same thing happened to me last night. I've been searching all day trying to figure out how to fix it and I came across your post saying you just banged it on the ground a few times and it started working. I did the same thing and sure enough, it started working again! It's so weird. What I don't get is that I didn't drop my phone at all yesterday. It just did it randomly while i was texting.

[Q] Infuse bootloop

Im trying to explain everything to prevent unneeded questions
I have viewed several threads about this but absolutely none with an answer. My Samsung Infuse 4g with at&t (nonrooted) is in a bootloop. The cause of this was my every-other-day reboot. Once I turned it back on it goes to the samsung screen for about 5 secs, then goes black, then says samsung again and so on repeatedly. I pull the battery and as soon as it makes contact back with the phone it turns on by itself into the same Samsung screen over and over. When plugged into wall or computer it will show the charge screen where there is no battery life left, then it will flash and start up the charge screen again and so on just like the samsung screen. I cannot go into download mode (the buttons, at this point, do nothing. No response)
I have tried taking the battery out and plugging in usb cable to computer, then holding both volumes and putting battery in=charging loop
↑ with volume up=charging loop
↑↑ with volume down=charging loop
computer doesnt detect it, adb cant find it, cannot go into download mode, odin cant see it, heimdall cant see it, cant actually boot into anything, cant leave battery in or else phone will restart itself the entire time, and this was caused by my (already gbread) infuse 4g doing a regular reboot (aka power button, tap power off, after phone is confirmed off take battery out, battery back in, turn on)
Recommendations at this point? on a scale from 1=noob to 10=expert im a 7 on this type of thing. Ive always heard that as long as you can boot into a picture its only soft bricked but if i was right i wouldnt be here. Any and all help would be much appreciated. If you need me to post a video I would have NO problem doing that showing everything im doing.

You might have already tried this way, but I've always held down both volume buttons first before plugging in the USB cord - not the other way around. You can also try different cords, different USB ports and/or different computers.
Mine was doing this the other day and it turned out to be my SD card being flaky. Maybe try taking it out and booting?

Ive tried a hp touchpad cord, an atrix cord, and the original cord. I cant really do the button combo because as soon as the battery makes contact the phone turns on. thats why i had the usb cord in first to see if it worked. ive tried every usb port and 2 different laptops, the computer wont recognize it if the phone wont go past the samsung start up screen

I should have been clearer. Leave the battery out of the process until after attaching the cord and the screen coming up.

I do, every time.
1. battery out
2. hold down volume buttons (any combo)
3. attach cord (nothing happens, no screen, nothing)
4. put battery in
Results= Charging loop

should be the same...wonder if you battery needs to be charged first, it should be fully charged at best...to do any flash/Odin/one click
this how I do it...basicly the same..
>take batt out
>plug in usb cable...to both phone and computer
>hold both volume buttons...NO NOT HOLD THE POWER BUTTON....
>put batt in...
and bam should see the android dude shoveling in yellow triangle...
If you get no response from the usb without the battery, and inserting the battery indicates the battery needs charging - I'd suspect the phone's usb port. Especially after trying different cords & computers.

I have the same problem... tried also everything now i gave it to cellphone shop, i hope you guys can give me answer before i am gonna waist $100

Help me please
I was in this state. There are two options I can think of. A JIG as mentioned previously or the Heimdall One-Click-Unbrick. The one-click unbrick did it for me and got me back to cmw and download mode, then i could flash to stock, root and flash up to ICS. It was really easy and I stopped sweating once it booted to cmw instantly after running it.

JIG DIDNT WORK, because the same problem.... maybe the chargging connect is broken? or has a corrosion?

Sounds/Looks like a hardware issue...
Did it get any water damage in the past?
Hope you got warranty or still under warranty.
I am having exactly the same problem. My Infuse has never been rooted or unlocked (quite ironically, I was about to root it for the first time).
Boot loop when not plugged in, charge loop when plugged in. Absolutely no combination of buttons, inserting/removing the battery, and/or plugging/unplugging the USB has gotten it to do anything.
This has happened several times over the past few days. The first few times it sorted itself out in an hour or two. Today I couldn't get it to do anything at all.
I found several posts by people who have this problem, and it has never been conclusively solved from what I've seen. Finally one person said they fixed it by lightly smacking the phone with their hand. Lo and behold, it came on for about 5 minutes before looping again. So I smacked it again, and before it could re-loop, I factory reset it. A few hours went by and I was convinced that it was fixed.
A few minutes ago I had it plugged in to my computer via USB and was getting ready to SuperOneClick it. Then it went back into loop. I can't get it to come on this time. Again, no combination of buttons will send it into download mode. The computer can't see it. The battery is charged. The USB cable and port are fine. The software was reset earlier today. Does this mean that I have a hardware problem, or is there a software issue that could be fixable?
EDIT: So I decided to try hitting the power button, something that had never worked to this point, and the device came on. A couple minutes later it went back to boot loop. On a whim I tried download mode, which had stubbornly refused to work all day. Of course it immediately worked. Not really knowing what to try, since I'd already wiped user data, I wiped cache data and formatted the internal SD. Then I told it to reboot. Back to boot loop. A few minutes later, it came back on with the power button. Two minutes later, boot loop again. Then it restarted of its own accord. And now back to boot loop. I just don't even know anymore.
EDIT2: Just a thought... Something is weird with the power button. Whenever the phone is on and I hit power (briefly, not holding it down), it goes to the shutdown menu as though I'd held it down. A few seconds later, I'm always back in boot loop.
Infuse loop
I have found the problem. It is, in my case, the power button. I removed the case and crossed terminals with a paperclip. BAM. Booted up, and when I removed the paper clip.... back to boot loop at Samsung logo.
There is a place to send the phone. Ive see great reviews.
mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-infuse-4g-power-button-repair/
Seems like there has been a string of power button malfunctions going around lately. There are a few threads going on where people have had this issue. Sometimes its just the terminals needing to be cleaned or dust blown out.

Nexus S shows charging on the lockscreen when disconnected from charger

Hello folks,
I have a Nexus S running Stock 4.0.4 and it shows charging on the lockscreen along with the charging battery icon even after hours of being disconnected from the wall charger.
If i check under the about phone tab in settings and check under phone status, it shows discharging.
I tried wiping the battery stats and reverted to official stock ROM again after wiping everything completely from adb.
I tried moving to different versions of Android OS, namely 2.3 and 4.1.1, and it shows the same thing.
Sometimes, when i power off and power on the phone, this goes off. But when i connect th phone to the laptop, the mount SD card immediately comes up, but the phones starts charging only after a couple of seconds. And then it still shows as charging even after removing.
It looks to he hardware issue...any ideas???
clean the micro usb port with a tooth brush that should help some i have a ns that does this, it works and charges fine
I had that happen quite a bit a few months back. I haven't had it happen since switching to CM9 though. Pretty sure its just a visual bug. Reboot makes it go away.
Let me try both the things...let me clean it and comletely wipe the phone and install CM9 just to check if it works better..
One more thing....if i remove the battery and connect it after a couple of minutes. Without me powering it on, the screen wakes up and shows the charging animation even if i haven't connected to any charger.
I think you got a defective USB port..mines was like that too before...the only way is to send it back to samsung
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk 2
Unless its completely different from what happened to me... its NOT defective! Mine has COMPLETELY stopped doing this behavior since being on CM9...
you shouldnt need to send it in, the phone still charges and discharges the same it maybe is some reporting bug or error or something, more than a few nexus s has had this and still work fine

No man.....havent found a solution yet...the phone charges and discharges properly...it just that it doesnt show it properly..
also i think it has something to do with my micro USB port...as when i start the transfer of files from my laptop to phone, it stops for a sec and starts again..
Hello All...i fixed the issue....i guess i was using different microUSB chargers all the time...
i noticed that the metal slab inside the microUSB slot was very close to the bottom...so i took a needle and pushed it properly towards the top...now the metal slab is exactly in the middle...and the charging crazy stopped immediately...
make sure u do it when the phone is off and the battery removed...
i figured where's the harm in doing this as Note 2 is releasing shortly
jokes apart..please bend it slowly towards the top and the issue is resolved.
Hi mate, try another kernel.

I did that...i went to stock gingerbread...then stock ICS and then to stock JB....ofcourse wiping everything through adb along the way....tried CM9 RC2 too..
the thing is even when the phone is switched off...the screen wakes up immediately and shows the charging animation...when its unplugged...
Battery charging animation even after disconnecting the charger (SOLVED)

Thanks...This tricked work for me too on my S2 this morning....I think I did not had the charger removed properly and the animation went crazy... I thought kernel related problem (I had tried TWRP version of Sammy Apolo 4.14 on freshly flashed ROM) and flashed compatible Philz kernel but did not work...I also did a dirty flash of my ROM but to no success....I switched off the phone but even when switched off, the charging animation came and went and when I tried to reboot the phone, I couldn't...So I even tried removing battery for about 5 minutes and placed it back, it finally booted but with animation still going bang bang.... and I then I went crazy...I have read about the toothbrush cleaning trick but before doing so I looked at the usb port but was not much sure what to do.. I thought it had bent a bit but after I saw your post, I immediately took out a needle and bent it slowly in upward direction and that was done ...However, I forgot to take off my battery before doing so but guys, its always safe to take it out to avoid any problems..... :good:
So the moral, please take care while using your usb port....

[Q] HTC 8x stuck and rebooting after logo screen

Hello,
Had a perfectly fine HTC 8x till this morning. Then the pet at home chewed on the USB cable while the phone was charging .. I suspect the power cables may have shorted with the data cables. In any case, now the phone is totally dead when the charger is disconnected. If I reconnect the charger (new cable) then the phone vibrates, afer that the screen lights up for about 10 seconds with the HTC logo and then it switches off - it keeps doing this till the time I remove the charging cable. The Red charging LED does not come on at any time. I have tried the hard reset with Vol down and power key etc. and that did not work. Any help to revive the phone would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks & regards

I bought one listed for parts on ebay a while back that would do a constant boot loop. what i did was buy a cheap phone tool kit 2$ off ebay as well. removed the rear shell on the phone. dang phone is held with sticky adhesive. its take a minute to separate the housing and screen. if you have watched those videos on youtube where there using a blow drier to heat the plastic to take the phone apart is completely nuts. It only takes patients and dont force it . then disconnected the battery. 2 whole screws. woo hoo.. i couldn't do the hard reset either because the phone woudnt charge in off-mode. just constant boot loop. i had no choice to battery pull. strange thing was the charging light would always stay on even when it was unplugged. once the battery had been disconnected from the pcb it hasn't had any problems.
T-MOBUS HTC 8x Developer Unlocked, Sim Unlocked, and Running Windows 8.1
[SOLVED] Disconnect the battery from the phone for few seconds
Problems faced:
1. Boot Loop
2. Factory Reset using Phone buttons never worked, tried everything and never ever got the " ! " icon
3. Phone keeps restarting showing the HTC logo without "quietly brilliant" ( if you don't see that probably not going to boot the OS)
4. Phone does not work at all unless connected to phone charger
SOLUTION:
After trying almost every possible thing i got this to make it work.
1. Open the back cover ( you will need a hair dryer, check YouTube)
2. Unscrew just the two screws at the bottom of your phone and disconnect the clip-pin thingy (this connects the battery to the phone) for a few seconds. ( it has a metallic cover kinda thing)
Press the power button and your phone will go back to normal.
Make sure you connect anything that gets disconnected in the process... they are quite strong so dont worry, nothing will break or cut off, but do be careful.
hi there ok i found a solution you need to take the cover off and the plug in the charger because a button is stuck
there is only 2 screws you need to unscrew and boob it works
My Case

MY CASE... I've posted a thread explaining that...
This procedure works.. but in my case not at 100% fine... cause i can't insert back the sim card since the bootloops return if i do it...
That left us with a software issue i've not been able to solve yet...
Best regards...
