Not quite sure how to explain this one but I need to change what my phone is read as when an application reads my phone.
I have a Galaxy S 4G on tmobile and downloaded the MLB app so I could watch the games live. My phone isn't listed as a supported device, but the Nexus S is listed as a supported device. The two phones are almost exactly the same. Unfortunately, the app can see what phone I'm using and blocks me from watching the games.
Is there any way to "change" which phone I'm using? Is there some file in the android os that can be changed?
I appreciate the help guys and hope this made sense.

Smallest bit of help is appreciated!

I have no idea if this applies to your question, but I recently did something similar to get the timescape app working on my tmobile G2. I had to install the appropriate apps and then change the line in build. Prop that reads
ro.product. manufacturer =HTC
to
ro.product. manufacturer=Sony Ericsson
maybe this is what you are looking for?
instead of the manufacturer try changing the other lines like for example
ro.product. name=
or
ro. product. device=
good luck remember to back up before attempting!

Thanks man! This sounds like exactly what I need! I am ridiculously excited to try this out when I get home this evening.
I will definitely let you know what happens!

I know how to do it. Pm me. I did it for the HTC hero CDMA I made our phone think it was a Droid x even in the market lol
GOT IT to work!!! Pretending I'm at Nexus One. I will go into more detail on my break. The resolution isn't where I hoped it to be. We will see tho. I will try to get the Nexus S details and try that instead.

Just came across this on the interwebz. Wondering if anyone is working on it for the G2x.
http://wiki.meego.com/ARM/MSMQSD
This would be my first swing at developing for Android but I'm going to fiddle a bit and see if I can get Meego onto my device. Heard really good review of the Nokia N9 which runs Meego, so figure I'd give it a try on my G2x rather than spend another $600 for a Nokia N9.
Questions go in the Questions and Answers forum.
You should probably look in to this... http://wiki.meego.com/ARM/TEGRA2
That would be pretty cool i've never used meego lol it'll be something cool to play with. Good luck

Yeah, you should definitely give it a shot. I would use your rom, even though I've never used Meego before, but it might be great! You got my support

Pretty Cool. I was working on a Sense Rom for the NS4G, can i use this as a base?
Sense on a nexus? why?
Why not 3.5?

How about no?

Funny how people with sense phones want Vanilla and the Vanilla phones wants sense. Personally as an Evo 3D owner (and soon to be an NS4G owner as well) I don't want sense on either phone. Just my opinion... a lot of people love sense.
Cm7 powered Evo 3D.
why ruin a perfectly good phone?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
Good wotk to the dev, can I ask a question why on xda do people need to make negative comments on stuff they dont like. Sorry if thr dev took on a big challenge besides making another cm7 based rom
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
This is actually pretty cool. gives the people a chance to see what all the sense fuss is about and check it out themselves. if they dont like what its all about, they can easily change back to cm7, miui, or whatever. plus no one is forcing the sense hater to use this rom so theres really no reason to hate on it.
I don't understand all the negativity... What's wrong with having options? Sense can be fun to mess with... For a day or two

For the people who don't like the idea if it. You don't have to flash it nor comment. People can do what they want to THEIR own phone.

Options are the best way. I remember on the g1 we had vanilla, sense, expresso (different theme of sense on some phones), and even motoblur

I just watched the video on Ubuntu for phones os and its looks great! On the website, there's option for the lite version that will work with phones with minimum single core. I'm loosing hope on fully functional jb on this phone and I feel this is the last resort other than buying a new phone. Are you guys going to install it when it releases?
I really want to. But I just don't know how to go about doing that. Also your right, jb is just a maybe, and honestly I really want something stable and fast

Indeed this is a breakthrough.... I am waiting for something like this to be installed on my nokia e7
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Correct me, but did it not say it will have to be ported? I was reading if all devices will be getting it. Maybe it will be similar how cyanogen mod work and has different devs for different devices.
I would love to help with that if that is the case.

The Ubuntu website said that this odd based off the android kernel. It's probably ics kernel because it was on g nexus. This could be notable for us, we may never get this fully working.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
I will give it a shot if it ever comes on this phone
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
Uhhh, it'd be the same inherent problem we currently have with trying to get jellybean on these phones...nvidia (closed source) chips. Right? Drivers are pretty important little buggars.
We may have problems yes. But I still would be very happy to be sportin' ubuntu on my phone.
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk 2
IMO, ubuntu on the G2x sounds amazing.
I'll be watching for such development from my polished turd of a device...
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
Definitely will try it.
Well hopefully the tegra 2 wont give Ubuntu issues
Sent from my MB886 using xda premium
It will give you problems, one of the requirements for Ubuntu on phones is that the have to be able to run ics or jb, nvidia drivers are required.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
Yup from now on stay away from LG and Motorola phones

Not having the Java overhead would make it feel like a new phone. Hopefully it can be ported.

There's a good chance this will run on Mazout's CM10.1 unofficial (no radio), and now that Mazout has compiled a fairly easy dual-boot option to this ROM it will be a lot easier to experiment with.

Now that we get dual booting and Google play edition phones. Based on rumors of the new HTC One. Would it be wise to sell my N5 and go to the new One? If waterproof. I think I will have to. Always been a dream to have HTC and Vanilla.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I think you just answered your own question
The Google play edition HTC and Sammy phones look vanilla but aren't. They still have proprietary frameworks so don't expect the fact they have GPE to mean AOSP development will be any better
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Oh really. I didn't wanna here that. I like my options open to run whatever I want with lots of development.

It's never "wise" to buy a brand new phone 5 months after the last one came out. However it's your money, spend in on what you want. Just don't expect members of one phones forum to recommend another phone.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
You will have to sell 2 nexuses actually.
imo, the the new HTC ONE seems like going where SONY Xperia z2 and SGS5 went that LG didn't go.
I mean too big body in proportion to the screen size.

It's more than 5 months old fyi - 19th Feb 2013 to be exact..
----------------------------------
I used to use MoDaCo on my old HTC One which (I then swapped for the Note 3 (still have it) and I have an N5 now), had the option of flicking between Sense and GPE - It worked, but as posted further up development isn't that great for the One.
Amen on the price. And not worried about size. My N5 is big with a ballistics SG maxx case.
