ICS SMS Popup is a simple app that will easily allow you to view and reply to incoming text messages from a pop up dialog. Now you can read and even reply to incoming text messages with out ever having to leave your current activity! Find it annoying to leave in the middle of a task just to view a new message? Try out ICS SMS Popup to solve that problem with a simple solution!
★ Android 4.0 style
★ 5 colored themes (ICS-Blue, Red, Orange, Green, Purple) - More coming soon!
★ Read all incoming SMS messages instantly
★ Slide to unlock animation
★ Instantly reply to messages without leaving a task
★ Auto-receive enabled
★ Inbox quick-launch
★ Custom notifications
★ Task-killer safe
★ Low RAM footprint
★ 0% battery drain
*Tips and help*
★ Why do we need a permission to read your messages? That's simple - so you can view them in the popup. Without it you could not view your messages.
★ Do we collect IQ and read messages? NO. We do not collect data or any other IQ like many other keyboard or popup apps who will steal your information for profit.
★ Avast reporting as malware!?! No, its not malware. It is the AdNetwork SDK which has been certified by Verisign and fully approved by Google. Avast and a few other outdated scanners will mark this as a potential risk because of the required permissions. Don't be fooled, use a legitimate antivirus app like Lookout Security or AVG. See below for more info.
★ Why such extreme permissions? Well, they are required in order for you to read, view, and reply to your messages in the app. We can not view or see any messages you send or receive. We do not support IQ like many other apps, so you are completely safe!
**Other Info**
ICS SMS Popup is the original SMS popup dialog themed to Android 4.0. We have many other flavors available to satisfy all tastes. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at [email protected] and we will get back to you as soon as possible with a solution.
This app provides a few useful shortcuts on your device in the form of a search bookmark link and home screen icon. This gives us a few cents each time the app is downloaded and will help us out a lot in developing more apps. If you do not want to use these new tools, you can simply ignore or delete them by dragging the icon to the trashcan and no harm is done (our app remains the same, no need to uninstall it). There is an ad-free pro version on the Play Store if you would like to support development! Thank you!

Works great on my one s but I only have one question. How come when I reply from the pop up it does not show what I just sent in my messaging app. I'm using the stock messaging app.

This is at the top of my wish list too We are working on having it show the name for saved contacts instead of the number. Shouldn't be too hard so I'll let you know when we get it going

Glad you like it! Customization is our main focus, we have an iphone style coming out soon too but the current versions are just to give ppl options while we add features and work out any bugs. Once the beta is complete it will be converted to one main app with downloadable themes and a template for 3rd party devs. Then it will be added to the widget chooser in Omega Launcher

Trying this now. SMS popup was disabling my lock screen on CM Apocalypse. This seems to be working better!
Thanks!
This looks good, but could you make an option to keep the incoming message visible while doing a quick reply? I like to be able to refer to longer or more complicated messages while typing my response.

Glad you like it! This was an early build so it is geared more towards speed and stability than features at the moment but there will be a new customizable version out soon with basically every option you can think of so stay tuned We are just putting the finishing touches on our new themeable status bar app so the SMS popup is next in line.

That is a great idea and will definitely be looked into for the new version. Our team communicates primarily through 5+ message long texts so this feature would be useful for us too lol. Thanks for the suggestion, let us know if you think of anything else and they will be added to the wish list
One of the reviews for your app states it adds shortcuts to the desktop, Google don't allow this.

We are well aware of the new developer policy and our ad networks are fully compliant with the changes. Rather than being opt-out like it was before there will now be a popup after installing that will allow users to either opt-in and receive the shortcuts or continue using the app without them. We literally spend hundreds of hours developing each app so we would really appreciate it if you wouldn't mind spending the 2 seconds it takes to remove the icon if you don't want to use them, but if you don't find them to be useful I understand. They are currently our main source of revenue though so if users don't like these kinds of ads then hopefully they will speak with their wallets and purchase the ad-free pro version to help support our full-time development efforts. The new opt-in setting will be integrated in our apps over the next month before the new policy goes into effect and should eliminate any concerns over this issue. Thanks

This app is simple but useful for people that heavily use full screen apps (games/browsers/ect). It gives a nice little notification that shows the text message/email you just received, allowing you to decide if it's worth quitting your app to reply to it (see picture), even if you're in another app! You can turn the notifications on and off via the main screen. The best part of it is you can play and the notification will not interfere with your touch on the game. It might also have the simplest options menu.
FEATURE LIST:
Works with third party SMS applications
Now supports K9 Mail (requires K9 Mail for functionality)
Shows the sender (name from contacts list or number if contact doesn't exist)
Shows the sender and contents of the message
Low profile
Doesn't interfere with the touch interface of whatever task you are doing
Easy to turn on or off just by the touch of a checkbox
Lightweight
No more quitting Angry Birds just to see that someone texted you "lol"
Works in portrait and landscape orientations
Permissions explained:
Read SMS: So that it can read the text to show you
Read contacts: so that it can see if anyone in your contacts shares the same number and the text sender
Please report any bugs to me.
P.S. I know this is a VERY simplistic app and may seem pointless. If you feel that way that is fine, however I have had a lot of people that laughed at it originally tell me they can't use any full screen app without and they never turn it off. So I simply ask you give constructive criticism. Thank you!

Crazy, I was literally just thinking it would be cool to have something exactly like this on my SGS2 when I was playing Star Diamonds Capture... it's an online multiplayer game that you can't really back out of unless you want to risk losing the match, but I always want to make sure I'm not ignoring an important text.
Thanks, I will let you know how it runs and if you stay active as a dev I will support your efforts as much as possible.

Any plans to include Whatsapp notifications? Like the app and Whatsapp would improve its usefulness a ton

+1 for what's app compatibility.I'm having some issues right now.screen wakes up with every notification even if this option is disabled.although this happens only when phone is on silent. Another problem I had sometimes the pop-up would turn almost transparent for no reason making it unusable.generally applications seems unstable atm.some times it just doesn't want to show my messages...like it's getting auto disabled....anyhow still waiting for lightflow support and for some fixes which that are quite important...potential is great whatsoever...

Using paid version now. Like so far, have a few requests/suggestions. Can you make it possible to switch to sms app of your choice from ppopup? And I would love to see semi transparent"chat heads". And can this be themed easily? ie can we use images to make rounded corners and such or is this all drawn by system? If it will be themable can we get a guide somewhere?
Thanks
Nice, it would be great if it integrates with Floating Notifications, just a thought.

great app but when i have multiple chat heads open... i get an odd bug... well i think its a bug haha. The chat heads that have been opened more recently still stay in the foreground when i open up a chat head that has been open for longer. This messes me up because if I have the cheat heads under the keyboard is still recognizes that i have pressed them even though i want to type on the keyboard. This also makes it harder to see the text in the conversation because it gets in the way. For a feature or bug fix request (depending on which it is ) i would like it where you can hide all other chat heads when you open one to reply/look at the message.

First of all, this is a fantastic app so I was happy to buy the version from the Play store. It works great and it makes texting a lot easier.
I have a question about the "Choose all" option. Why is it not recommended? Is it just that I would receive many pop ups if I received several SMS at once? Or is it that more resources have to be allocated while it runs?
Thank you.

I am confused, where were you able to find free version. The link is OP is not found.

I only tried the paid version from the store. All I meant was that I'm happy to support this app.
It was stated in OP that there was a free version, and was going to be posted here after the initial free release time expired. All we said was that we were using paid version, so I'm not sure where the confusion Congress from. Currently there is no free version, but at .99 is practically free.
I love this app I like how it looks
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda premium
i recently purchased this app and although i like it, there are a few issues with it:
needs an easier way to dismiss the app instead of clicking on the bubble and then clicking the 'X'. Maybe incorporate a double tap to dismiss
Does not support MMS yet
During long text conversations, it gets annoying because i'll be typing in the standard messaging app and this app always pops up, interfering with my conversation
When i'm using the keyboard in another app such as gmail, this app will pop up and cause me to lose my keyboard.
This app nice when i am watching a youtube vid or want to do a super quick reply, but it often gets in the way. Just my two cents worth.
This app looks like it'll have an extremely bright future, but right now it looks a little dark.
No conversation list? How are you supposed to just read a conversation without having just been texted?
No MMS support at all? Didn't know that til I missed a couple.
I'd love to see an actual settings menu (I'd love to get rid of the transparency option in the popup, I like it transparent and don't need the option to make it opaque)
When I swipe into my notifications I see "Ninja SMS Open conversations list" and I'd like for that not to be there. Facebook chatheads literally just fixed that.
I'd love an option to call the contact from the popup.
All my complaints and I still love it so much I just uninstalled go sms (the only texting app I've liked since 2.2, now on 4.2) and paid for an app (I've maybe paid for 3 apps my entire life) I can't wait to see the future for this app, thank you for your hard work.

.apk
I created this app using Tasker in conjuction with Tasker App Factory
You do not need tasker to run this app.
I have provided a .apk file that can be installed if you enable the option "Install From Unknown Source" in system settings.
.xml
I have also provided the project's .xml which can be imported into Tasker and used through Tasker, just as it would in app form.
Once imported, the project is able to be edited and customized to your needs.
By all means, make any modifications you like, BUT if you do many any edits and post it publicly, please refer back to this thread, site it appropriately and give me credit for what i have created.
How to import.
Known Bugs
*When using the "Press Enter to send" option, a new line is shown when enter is pressed, though the blank line is not actually sent in the message.*
*When two texts are received within half a second, the second text may not display correctly.*
*Screens with different resolution/dpi/size will cause the popup to have a different size/location.*
It can only handle texts from up to 5 different people.
*Only able to scroll down through text in the center of popup (sides are reserved for swiping through texts)*
Compose window displays differently on full screen.
Importing the .xml project into tasker is borked for some people.
*Cannot be fixed at the moment due to Tasker limitations*

Haha wow that's bad, I guess since the screen res is so small.
Edit: and it looks like that phone has a default landscape display..
I'll probably have to make multiple versions or find a way to detect screen size in Tasker.
But yes you could edit the app in Tasker.
This might not be ready for multiple devices then maybe I should move this to the app development forum :/

That's why making this into an app that's not associated / created with tasker would be amazing. Of course that is a lot of work

My s4 has a weird bug that makes talkback always on when using any accessibility apps. Is there any way to use this without the accesabilities? Also it doesn't mark the sms as read after a reply other than that an outstanding idea and keep up the fantastic work!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
All the accessibility does is make sure the Compose window appears/disappears correctly.
If u don't enable accessibility it will still work, just might be a bit wonky haha
And last time I checked I can't mark messages as read because of Tasker limitations, but I'll look into it again.
Thanks!

It'd be nice if I could see that tutorial again. Also, the font is scaling depending on the length of the message, which makes it go from a book for the blind size to microscopic.

Samsung created a bug which lets your phone talk.

but, how to change icon size?
@acoongg
Go to the side menu.
There's a point in the list called icon size.
Now use two fingers to zoom, just like you zoom in and out in the gallery.
@Pos411
Thank you.
FB Messenger already supports chat heads, doesn't it?
But i thinked about integrating sms support.
So i will think about integrating more messenger.
But i haven't decided it yet.
I like your app, just hate it that i can't disable the notification, and that the order of whatsapp contact is just how i don't want them... never used on top....

I was actually just coming here to say this.. If you're interested you can add in an extension to your app, so you can take advantage of FN's chatheads and integrate the Whatsapp functionality.
PM if you're interested, you can also find the library here: https://code.google.com/p/fn-extensions-library/
Regardless though, great job. I looked into this myself and there was definitely no simple way to do it so kudos to you
Great APP, needs to get way more popular!
However, I have one problem: if i am typing, my keybord is above the typing area, so i can not see what i am typing.. Is that a common issue?

Hey everyone! I just created a new App, for now am limiting the App's release (Alpha 1) to the good old XDA folks.
It's a Chat Helper for WhatsApp.
The App embeds and shows a WhatsApp widget and displays it whenever you are on a chat with someone, the widget shows the count of unread messages you have and of course it keeps updating live. Clicking the widget will quickly display a screen full of unread messages for you peak through, from this screen you could quickly jump to any of your chat contacts/groups or hit the X to go back to your chat. If you switch to a new chat, you could go back to your previous chat by just hitting the back button. And all this will hopefully make you a better multitasker when it comes to chatting.
The App is tagged with an Alpha 1 version badge, I hope to upgrade that with your feedback coming through various devices. Also, I would like to emphasize that the App does NOT modify WhatsApp in anyway, just enjoy the enhanced experience with no worries of being banned.
Few Tips/Instructions for the App:
The App needs a 2 step setup (3 if you are on Android Marshmallow), which you need to do only once and never have to visit the Settings again.
When the App prompts to provide permission to create widgets, please go for "Alway allow...", this will let the App automatically get the widgets ready and display at right time, right place.
If the unread count badge obstructs any of your view elements (may be when keyboard is on,) you can drag the badge vertically to a new place (but restricted to right side of the screen for now.)
If you open the unread messages window, always try to use the X at the top right corner for faster re-access.
If you click any chat in the unread messages window, it will take you to the respective chat. Once you're done interacting, press the back button to quickly go back to the previous chat.

nice idea and thanks for making our lives easier!
but i would like to know the difference between this and the official whatsapp widget which also shows the amount of unread messages + preview of the text? .
is it due to the minimal design and it appears everywhere as a floating widget?

And yes, you're right. As described, it's about embedding and displaying the official widgets at the right time, right place and thus making 'our lives easier'.
Guys so far things look good for an alpha version, I plan to release a more concrete version soon, let me know if you have any minor feature requests that I could add at the last minute.

Hi
Nice app !!! Really makes texting quicker...
Few suggestions I thought of :
1. Add an option to contact you via the app
2. Add an option to hide the window when there are no messages
3. Add an option to hide the window for a timed interval
4. Add an option to use a smaller window ?
Cheers!
