[Q] how to disable the autohide function of the status bar icons? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anybody know if there is a way to keep the status bar icons visible in wp7.5? Is there some option to disable the autohide function via some registry changes?
I know that this is against the minimalistic approach of wp7 and that it's easy to see the signal strenght and wi-fi signal icon, etc. just with one tap on top of the screen, but I sometimes like to have such information just at a glance, without one extra touch... especially that I often have to deal with very weak signal...
Anybody help please? I would appreciate it very much...

Not Possible atm
unless they push the setting in an update, you have to be content with the tapping top middle screen

I would also like this to happen; and there is always a way either by the way of a reg hack or a dll hack. Please someone do this

Currently not possible. But just a FYI.. If there is no signal, top bar will be automatically shown. Same applies for WiFi indicator as well.

That's bad news. Maybe it's my personal opinion but I don't like having to swipe to see this information plus it leaves an akward looking space. Like I said maybe it's just me.

But for me, it presents much cleaner screen and I don't have to look at those symbols anytime. If there's an issue that needs user attention, it will be shown automatically. That's really cool imo. But We have to live with it for now.

[Q] How to get alphabetic scrolling in the contact list

From Windows Mobile, I'm used to scrolling through a contact lsit by initial letter, i.e. when I move through the list at a high speed, the system starts to jump across initial letters instead, displaying the current letter on top of the list. I've been able to achieve the same thing accidentally on my new Sensation, but I cannot reproduce it. Can anybody give advice on this?
Try to touch the position indicator in the scroll bar on the right hand side of the screen, then drag it down. The bar is a bit narrow in sense and may be a little difficult to "grab".

Thanks for the info, works for me, but the position indicator is only showing up while the list is scrolling... Any alternative way? Is is possible to increase the size?
That's my best answer. Try htc help and the market for a third party app. Might have to wait for root and custom roms.

that bar indeed is small, it should of been a bit thicker.
The latest update made the bar easier to grab! Works a lot better now!

[Q] Any way to make status bar longer / wider to show more icons / notifications ?

Hi guys,
Is there any way to make our status bar longer / wider ? It really irritates me that some notifications do not show up on the status bar (like GMail, Facebook, Tapatalk etc.), because there are other apps occuping the place in status bar permanently (like CPU Usage Monitor, Battery Indicator Pro, Tasker or Avast! Mobile Security). So sometimes if I don't catch the notification sound I can't tell there is new email, facebook event or tapatalk post just by looking at the screen. I need to click on the status bar to see all the notifications. I turned off permanent notifications for some programs like Tasker or Avast, but this way they are not prevented to be killed by internal task manager. Taking into consideration the fact that status bar occupies only small part of the screen I would say it is a huge waste of space. Is there any way to hack it and make it longer / wider to display more icons / notifications ? My HTC Sensation shows more icons in the status bar and it has this nice arrow sign to indicate there are additional notifications. Here we don't have such indicator.
I'm not absolutely sure about the stock ROM -- although I think I do know and that the answer should be in the negative -- but on CM10, for example, there is an option to display the number of open notifications in the task bar. I haven't tested it so far -- if I remember to, I will give it a shot and report back in.
Bottom line: probably on a custom ROM.

silly status bar with notch question

I cannot deny, I LOVE this device. Everything working flawless so far ?.. Call me nuts, I like the notch more than I probably should. I've searched through this forum and through settings a few times, but maybe I'm overlooking it...
Question is, I'm noticing the left side of the status bar can fit the time and also 4 icons, effectively fitting them right up to the notch. The right side is only fitting battery icon and cell service info while anything else gets the dots. Am I missing a setting to fit more info on the right side? Or did OnePlus purposely waste status bar real estate? Pic for reference.
I think that's the expected (by 1+, at least) beahiour.
Agree with you, the 3 dots is annoying.

I can get 4 icons on the right (battery, cell, vibration, and Bluetooth) for example.

Hmm I tried a bunch of combinations and ended up realizing a couple of them default to the 3 dots... When I put on all of the ones you mentioned they do indeed stack up. Maybe there's no alarm icon in the system files lol ?. Oh well. Thanks for the input
Have you tried to set display size to small with small font in display settings?

Removing status bar icons...

Google introduced a status bar icon editor back in developer previews of 8.0, yet seemed to have vanished from public release.
This is the menu where you used to hold the gear icon on the status bar, it would spin and unlock the editor.
For this, you can use any "activity launcher" however I will explain using Nova.
Long press on the home screen.
Select widgets.
Then you'll see "Activies" - press this.
Scroll down to "System UI" - touch it. You'll then see "Demo mode"(3rd option down) - touch this and a little wrench will appear on your home screen.
Press it. You'll see the status bar editor open up. Select status bar, and turn off the icons you want removed.
After this, reboot. And they will be gone.
I have Bluetooth, Alarm Clock, and signal bars all removed. Makes the status bar just clean and neat.
Give it a try!
ENJOY!
This is a great hidden find, unfortunately I wasn't able to remove the battery icon.... I don't need that with percentage showing.
Didn't work on my Global version. I can unselect then but after rebooting they are all still there.

I'm using the global version, and it works great on mine and another buddies of mine.
What version software do you have?
Only WiFi seems to disappear for me. Other icons just reappear on my global variant of the Mate 20 X. But thank you for the guide regardless.
Also wish the performance mode icon could be hidden, but that's not even an option.
Sigh, if we could just get near stock Android + sprinkles of EMUI customisations, I'd be so happy.. I love the hardware, camera, overall feel of the Mate 20 X but keep finding myself playing with my 6T and Pixel 2 XL because the software is a tough pill to swallow on the Huawei phone.

Seems like some toggles work, while some others don't :/
Would love to hide the VoLTE icon on the status bar. Or some way to rearrange the ordering if possible.
Edit: Just realized I can simply turn off VoLTE in the mobile networks settings (since I don't use it) to remove the icon.
can u explain 1 2 3
how i can remove eye comfort and volte?

Wow, I was really excited about this, but my phone automatically overrides it at boot. I think I can see it for a split second before it reverts, but it might just be populating the icons.
Anybody know more about this?
I am using lawn chair V2 launcher and although you can't hide icons you can set it to hide the whole status bar, very clean and to see the bar you just pull down from the top of the screen

Is there a way to force status bar icons to the right?

After days of searching for a way to force proper full screen mode WITHOUT the thick black bar I finally found one. However, it puts all notification/status icons already on the left under the camera. I'm so close to a perfect solution but this one thing is in my way.
Ideally I'd like to move all icons right but messing with the padding might be a good plan B.
Please help. It's driving me mental.
If you are referring to any notification icon and/or the clock, there really isn't any way to move those without doing a bunch of work on a rooted device creating your own theme basically. Also what thick black bar are you talking about for fullscreen? the bars are only present if whatever is being displayed isn't a 20:9 ratio. so any 16:9 (like most 1080p) media will get the bars. but everything else should be full screen by ensuring Setting>Display>Advanced>Front camera display area is on the right setting.

That's disappointing.
I have managed to move the clock to the right with edXposed via Gravitybox. It's just notifications now. Don't suppose you'd know if it's possible to disable the icons but still have notifications for those apps show up in the notification drop-down?
And that camera display area, when enabled, is the black bar I'm talking about. It's unsightly and a waste of space. Using the mod I found, all apps but Ookla Speed Test fill the ENTIRE to screen beautifully with no essential UI elements blocked by the camera. Landscape or portrait.

Only thing I can think of for the notifications is make them all "Other" instead of important. you would have to do that per app and per notification type that each app shows. Long clicking them in the drop down gives you the option to change it there. But that also means you need to enable "important and other notifications" on lock screen if you want them to show up there.; however, I can't find a way to allow "other" notifications to display on the Ambient display. I do use the AOD notify app and that could be a nice workaround for that as that will still light up for notifications that are labeled as "other" over the Ambient display and you can then color code each app to what you want.

Thanks for the tip. I changed the media apps I use to not important and that seems to have taken care of my issue for the most part.
Its not a perfect solution but it's the best and most helpful so far. Thank you, mate.

Hey @shadowofdeth, I have bought the OP8 recently and I too wish to reduce the height of the status bar(I don't mind the punch hole using the app space since most apps have the logo only at the top left). You said you have used a mod to reduce the space. Was it the edXposed or is it something else? Thanks in advance
