Hello!
I recently figured out how to change the DPI of my phone, and around 180/160 makes my phone look awesome. Unfortunately this leads to a couple of problems, including market compatibility which was fixed from a thread in this forum.
I googled around looking for a fixed phone apk (it crashes at 180 and below) but couldn't find it. Does anyone here have it?

Try Dialer One or ExDialer from the market. Both work fine with different dpi's.

I think you can... Never worried about that, just set dialer one as the default when asked and that's all I do... You should just give em a try, takes 10 secs to dl and install...

Did what they said, but didn't work - I have DPI set to 200
and now I have no cell signal/data.
Gonna try a titanium backup of original phone apk - that didn't work
Guess I'm down to reinstall the rom

Thanks for taking a look at this issue. I have reviewed these changes and it makes sense why the "DPI Hacked" versions that I posted are not "sticking". The only problem I can see is that the version of GSF in this thread is not matching either the official "20110828" or the official "20120317" ICS version of Google Apps. When I compare GSF versions, I get a lot more changes than just seeing a one line difference in /GoogleServicesFramework/smali/com/google/android/gsf/checkin/CheckinRequestBuilder.smali. Can you tell me what version of GSF was used? It says 2.3.7, but its not the same as my version.
Also, all the changes made in your DPI modified version of Vending.apk seem ok, except, I'm not sure why there are changes to res/menu-v11/actions.xml and some of the other resource files. The "cleanest" way to package this is to copy the modified classes.dex into an unaltered version of Vending.apk. This way, apktool will not do anything funny to the resource files and doing a file comparison will not show a bunch of unwanted changes.
I would also like to mention that these files will not work for ICS or any DPI other than 240.
Attached are my logs of the file comparisons to the original versions. Thanks.
Is this one working with ics?
Got the .15 version working with 182DPI and it doesnt revert using density modder.
Tried some from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1580827
But does not stick.
Seems you also have to install the GSF for it to work.

I can confirm this as well on Nexus S (240dpi) with AOKP M5. I never use Talk on my phone though so for me it's an acceptable bug.

The GSF apk has "signature" protection enabled in it's AndroidManifest.xml. You could either change "signature" to "normal" so the protection is disabled, or you could resign the other apk's (such as talk.apk) so the signature matches. For example, if I modify GSF.apk and sign it with my "test key", then the signature protection within the apk will only trust apps that are signed with the "test key".
This doesn't seem to be working for me. I cleared Market data, copied both APKs and rebooted, and now I have the latest Play Store version but still I can't install a lot of apps -- mostly they don't even show up when I search on the phone.
big noob here! first, i take no credit for making this app i just figured out how to make it work with our phones.
MUST BE ROOTED!
-first make a backup of the stock messaging app. (i just renamed it and added ".bak" after .apk
-use root explorer and push the Message+CRC_1.apk to system/app
-change permissions to rw-r-r
-change ownership to root:root
-reboot!
-after reboot go into apps manager and clear data. thats it!
if it works give this noob some thanks!

what exactly is going on with it? is it force closing? not able to send anything? i know when i didnt clear the data it would just keep force closing on me.
i just attached another one of the files. try renaming this one to Message+CRC_1 and following the directions again. maybe a cache wipe?
the file in the first post was pulled straight from my system/apps folder and is working great on my side. maybe this one will work for you.
EDIT: the name of the apk implies that you are replacing the stock sense messaging app. so if the name of your messaging app differs, try renaming the file to that of your stock messaging app.
So it worked for you? Awesome!

Any word if this works with Samsung Galaxy S III? I have tried several apps, and while I can get all of them to work initially, they all break after just a few txts. Also, how do you clear data in apps manager? 4.0.4 doesn't seem to have that option, on my Verizon variant anyway.

If you are using a ROM that is ODEX'd you need to rename the messaging odex file as well if delete it. Most sense ROMs right now are so double check. I've used this on every ROM I've flashed and it works flawlessly.

After rooting my S3, I got a little over zealous uninstalling all the bloatware. As such, I mistakenly deleted the alarm clock (ya know, the one that works with S Voice). Does anyone have the apk for the stock touchwiz alarm clock? The only downloads I can find are modded versions ported for other phones.
Thanks in advance.
You should be able to download a stock rom and search the zip. Normally they are located in the \system\app directory. Make sure you match permissions with other system apps.

Hi there, this is how i fixed my alarm problem
firstly download the clock apk relavent to your phone, i think that there are 3 different ones provided in this thread.
Secondly you need to download something from the play store called "Rom toolbox pro" its £3 but if you ask in the forums here someone can probably point you to a free one that does the same thing.
make sure your phone is rooted, install and run Rom toolbox pro. click on Root Browser, navigate to where you put the APK on your phone, copy and move it to root/system/app. Once you have moved the apk find it in the app folder, click and hold it for a couple of seconds. A menu should popup with options, click on "permissions" set them so they are like this. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2pphiyo&s=6 If you are using a different app you will need to set your permissions accordingly, yet again im sure there is someone on here clever enough to help with that.
Now just restart your phone, the APK will run on boot.
These are the exact steps i followed and they worked for me. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2h353dl&s=6
I hope you have the same luck

Thanks for pointing that app out. I'll look into it some more when I get the time. Turns out that beast left the dpi at 182 and didn't add the multi dpi play store. Some one likes SLIM way to much. Slim comes with it's own gapps that are modded for lower DPI. So after setting the DPI back to 240 and wiping data from Play and Google services frameworks then rebooting all is well.

Nice. I'd completed this mod myself when I got my s4 shortly after release, but never got around to testing it (did the same thing for my s2 back in the day). Got distracted trying to turn it into a vrtheme to make it compatible with 'all' version of camera (this way it replaces the resource files in apk and keeps that current version of camera installed). It's still just sitting in a couple of folders somewhere on my server....
(However, I think apk version means you should be able to push with adb without requiring root??)
I'm on a bell i9505 and it crashes on me after 3 seconds of use
Unfortunately I screwed up and my backup of my stock aPk was unsuccessful
Can someone please give me the stock aPk for the camera or tell me how I'd go about fixing my camera app

Couple of options...flash your rom again (extreme!) or just replace the modded apk with original apk. Some roms include updated camera software (not sure if there has been an update, but you never know) so best to get apk from the same rom version you are currently running
Also, need to make sure rom is deodexed (you could try deleting the associated odex file and see if crash stops)

It's still just sitting in a couple of folders somewhere on my server....
(However, I think apk version means you should be able to push with adb without requiring root??)

Maybe it could be possible... I have never used adb... But it should be possible yes
How would one make it for all versions? I am quite new to this... I would also like to port stuff.. But I am not that good yet

I'm on a bell i9505 and it crashes on me after 3 seconds of use
Unfortunately I screwed up and my backup of my stock aPk was unsuccessful
Can someone please give me the stock aPk for the camera or tell me how I'd go about fixing my camera app

Which rom do you use?
I have only having it confirmed on ME2 deodexed.. That's why I need people to try so I know
Why was your backup unsuccessful?
Btw. If you get your backup or an apk working... You can send me that file and I can mod it for you and see if that works

I use Tasker to set the phone to vibrate or silent mode when the camera app is active. Works like a charm, and I don't have to mess with custom software. I wouldn't even have to be rooted, if I weren't already.

we all know that... it has been said before... this is just so you dont need to do anything afterwards
i got pissed by turning the volume off and on constantly... thats why i did this.. and i could have used a profile.. but i thought this was a permanent fix for use in other roms and such but thanks.

(this works in my head...) You use a vrtheme (flashable zip) that replaces the ogg files (resources) in the apk with silent ogg files (vrtheme usually replaces the image resources so that you can change the look of apps such as what you see HERE)

oh... i did it manually by decompiling.. well... i cant see why it would make it compatible with other roms..
an example.
i hate the clock and alarm app in samsung.. but love the sony one... i cant install it on my samsung... so i need to port it.. but the thing you said there.. would not do the trick... there must be something else, an identifier of the phone or something.
