Roms that allow call recording. - Captivate General

I am in serious need of a rom that will allow me to record my calls. I recently (yesterday) was awarded custody of my son. I now have to schedule visitation with his mother and would like to have recorded proof. I will be notifying her at the onset of each call that they will be. These will all be in case she doesn't show for scheduled visitations.l to prove that I have been setting time aside. Please any he'll would be good. My system is a rooted captivate with stock kernal running stock gingerbread minus some bloatware. Ive only wandered across thread discuasing apks and other files that ive no clue about changine to do so. Thanks for any help.

The Firefly ROM can record calls. IMO Firefly was one of the most polished ROMs out there. Unfortunately it is Froyo, but it's still an amazing ROM. Check out this post I made a few months ago about getting call recording to work as well as the whole thread on call recording. Hopefully this helps, good luck.

I agree. I remember flashing the first version and falling in love... RIP Firefly!

I'd like to run that as my phone ran better on and came stock with froyo. Once I updated to Ginger it began to suck. Force closes, lagging. It been terrible but I can't upgrade the phone until next year at upgrade time. It has been a great $0.97 phone. I've tried to load roms and it doesn't work. I get some e:signature verification error. What would be the best way to load this rom. I am new to all of this and would love to learn more. However even in the tutorials I run across acronyms I don't know. Could someone please give me the easiest way to load this rom.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA

Two things:
1. If you're having trouble with acronyms, take a look at the "XDA Terms and Acronyms" post. That should help you out.
2. To get around the 3e signature issue, your best bet would be to flash a Froyo kernel with ClockworkMod recovery already included via Odin or Heimdall. I would suggest Onix, as it's a good kernel and I know it works with Firefly from previous experience.

thanks
thanks for the help. it is certainly appreciated. i just flashed the odin kernal. does it matter that the phone is currently running stock gb? also how long does it take to load? i like literally just did it at 10:14pm on wednesday june 20, 2012.

Well I flashed a stock kernal with cwm already inside and was then able to download firefly and flash it. I really like it. Ultra smooth. Much faster than stock gb. Thanks to all who responded. Thanks to all the guys at xda. Y'alls work is great. Too bad they haven't tried updating firefly to gb. I think it'd be great.

Team Phoenix aka The Collective aka The Family did come out with a great GB ROM called Mosaic. While Mosaic is themed blue, it does have a flashable Firefly theme here if you're partial to that.
They also came out with an ICS ROM, Fusion. Unfortunately it doesn't have a Firefly theme but it does have a green theme that looks pretty good as well.
It is important to note that the Firefly ROM is the only one that has call recording. It was never implemented in any of the more recent ROMs. Hopefully this helps.

I like firwfly in that it is quicker than the stock gb and it supports call recording. I needed it at the request of my attorney to record all calls with my sons mom. Id like to get back to a gb based rom that supports call recording. I don't want to try a ics rom until its more stable and safer. Don't want to render my phone useless.

di11igaf's Rom on 2.2.1 also had call-recording. LOVED this rom!!!
Does anyone know why this feature is left out of all recent and current Roms? Currently on an ICS Rom now, and the only thing that I really miss is the call-recording. There is a post about this issue for the SGS II on 2.3.5 & Mod here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1482721.

Miui Nexus port

Ok, so it looks like the Miui ROM posted on the I9000/Vibrant forums that uses the Custom Bilboa1 CM7 Kernel works for the Captivate.
Here is the Link to Bilboa1's Kernel thread:

Follow the direction on the I9000 thread and substitute the CM7 captivate kernel in. Also it is noted that you have to flash the CM7 kernel right after flashing the beta 3.zip file (the zip file installs a I9000 kernel). Good luck hunting

there is already a miui port but from the fascinate. i would love to see a more functional; version though. just need someont to get the aosp kernel straitened out and reorient it. but that takes a lot of work.
Miui was being worked on and it was dropped. Have to ask master because he was the thread Creator for the captivate port as to why it was stopped. He is a vibrant dev.

it could be something as simple as one idiot making a flaming post, and master getting pissed off and quiting, but as far as i knew darkyy and DG were in on it too, and both of those are experienced on cappy. however, darkyy has his own rom to focus on and im sad to say it but it kinda looks like DG has moved to focus on his atrix. Not that i blame him, but i know that i will miss his work

You mean like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12006864&postcount=2104
MIUI was picked up by the french developer jblanc, and then tinkered some by another dev in i9000 land. It's basically the NS port of gingerbread miui jammed together with CM7 and bilboa's kernal for CM7 one. So we do need a reoriented kernel, as the one they are using is not the CM7 since it wouldn't boot properly. Please don't spam the thread with requests for ETAs like what happened to the old Miui thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=992251
I have been following that thread. It looks to be much further along than the last port. This one reads like it will end up being usable, once ported here. I am running cm7 and bilboa has a captivate version of his kernel. May have to give it a run when I can afford dealing with a soft brick
CM7
Wasn't asking for ETAl, just didn't know if anyone saw. Its not the port Master put out there it was the nexus S port the uses that custom CM7 kernel. It has some of the same problems as CM7 but its miui. Seriously this is an awareness thread no flame. We have a Bilboa Kernel for Captivate, is why I'm saying why it might be possible
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
I would not pay mind to those who enter threads just to criticize without reading or knowing what they are talking about.
If this works on the captivate it would have all of the same "bugs" as cm7 as it is using all the set up including a custom kernel built from cm7 source.
Reading the thread it its farther along than the last port as wifi, data, and calls work. It is also gingerbread where as the last port was 2.2.1.

Has anyone tried using it on the Captivate with Bilboa's kernel? I might have some time later today to try.
Ok I got it to boot following the instructions from the MIUI thread in the i9000 forums:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=992251
All I did was subsitute the captivate equivalent files from CM7. I also had to flash a captivate modem from the CM7 section too. going to test it out now.
Ok FYI after you do these steps and Flash MIUI Beta 3 it will install a i9000 kernel and modem. You will have to go after the initial steps and install a captivate CM7 Kernel and Modem.
So you used bilboas captivate kernel after you flashed the beta 3 zip?

Kb1 kernels?

Sorry people but Im still a Noob.... Dumb question time.
I'm Running the stock FROYO 2.2 and was wondering if I could flash any KB1 kernel on it?
For ex:
[KERNEL] stock+Voodoo stable 5.x for Captivate
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870760
[KB1]eXistZ Captivate Kernel #8[28MAR][Voodoo Sound 7, Lagfix & Color][OC/UV]

[KERNEL][KB1]OverStock v1.2 341MB, Voodoo Sound, Color, Lagfix, BLN 3/23/2011
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=989298
And if so, What would be a stable, reliable Kernel? Thanks

Are you stock stock? lagfix? rooted?
Those will all work. being stock the first kernal you flash will have to be a .tar version with the full version of Odin (ensure you have 3 button combo)
My current favorite is Onix. Works great and is very stable. Plus it add UV and OC features. AND gets updates all the time.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=930679 flash the .tar from here, for Onix
Then flash an i9000 modem.
Yup, I'm runnin stock, rooted and have the supercurio voodoo lagfix kernel. But I'm lookin for somthin different that might speed up my phone... I've never done any OC/UV so I'm not to worried about that that much haha

That kernel has clockwork.........so you don't need to use a .tar version.
Use the CWM versions put to the root of your SD and flash with clockwork Recovery
Even if your not into OC/UV the kernal is still great at stock settings.

edit: Sorry, I re-read your last question.
If you choose to run an I9000 kernel then you need to match an I9000 modem to it.
They are a simple CWM flash as well. there is a thread on here somewhere with all the current 2.1,2.2 and I9000 modems in it. Just do a search

I have read that others have done it with little success. Any reason why you are holding back from just flashing a full ROM. You are almost there and quite frankly, I think you are safer going with a prepacked ROM over putting pieces together on your own. If you are comfortable with rooting and CWM then you have nothing more to learn to do a full ROM flash. I have never looked back since I first flashed. I've tried several and would say my favorites so far are Serendipity and FireFly. If you want to stay more Stock like, Cognition is also really great stuff.

Even with the prepacked roms most people do not leave them alone, and mod and change the guts of them to their taste.
I don't see how learning to change things one part at a time is a bad thing, as you learn how everything works together, and will have a better understanding of it as a whole.
That's true.... but ill look into a rom haha.... hopefully I don't become an addict haha jk

Get something designed to work together first. That gives you an easy start and stability out of the box.
After that, and after making a backup (get a backup right after you root and install cwm, then again after you successfully flash your first rom), you should feel fairly confident in trying out different kernel/modem combos.
Just remember that if you're using an i9000 kernel, you must use an i9000 modem. Likewise if you are using a captivate kernel, you should pair it with a captivate modem (kb1).
Here's an excellent list of kernels and modems and the safe combinations.
And, of course, there's always the modem thread.
Nice! Thanks man

[ROM][CWM] Stock Deodexed KJ2 w/Root [11/1/11] - PDT

This is a Stock ROM for the KJ2 update that we never officially received. Its Deodexed and Rooted with the Modified recovery inside already, so you can use CWM.
Everything is Stock KJ2. The Kernel and Modem and everything else is untouched. Just rooted with the modded recovery, and deodexed.
Same install Method. Check mounts and remember to disable voodoo if you have it enabled or you'll soft brick (Remember this has a Stock Kernel!).

There may be various bug fixes, but there wont be anything MAJOR compared to the other stock ROMs. They are auto compiled and they dont give us a list of whats been addressed or not. You can try them out to see if you notice a difference, or if your happy with what you have keep it. Remember you can always make a backup and restore.

Still, cut the fat, keep the meat of the ROM. This phone (like most of them) runs really well when you tear out the garbage that Samsung/T-Mobile preloaded on it. I've been playing with Undead9k's KG2-based ROM the past few days and removed even more stuff from the ROM (and added a couple of things I wanted) and it finally 'feels' like the old Sidekicks did. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes from us having this update.
Got this flashed last night after some stupidity on my part. Thanks teddy for uping this! If you ever decide to release a bare bones version of this, I'd greatly appreciate it as I hate debloating ROM's. No T-Mobile stuff, no Amazon MP3, Books, and most of the Google crap (all but GMail, Marketplace, and Maps) removed.
This rom doesnt randomly force close like previous roms, nor does it reboot randomly either. Great job. Those were my only gripes with others, thanks!
Since install, this ROM hasn't bogged down on me at all. I only seem to have two small issues with it but if they could be eliminated, this would be a perfect stock ROM. After being plugged in to USB for a long period of charging, the phone can't play my custom ringtones. A reboot fixes this. The ringtone still shows there and the MicroSD is still mounted after being disconnected but even trying to reselect the same ringtone or another from the SD card just gives silence. Second issue is, heavy traffic causes data to fail. I can consistantly replicate this using Shazam to find song information. This does happen, as I said, only when the device is sending and receiving a lot of data. I'm going to try a different radio to see if this fixes that.
This is a literal stock rom, as being straight from Samsung, not just being in the design of stock. The only difference this has from stock is that it's deodexed and rooted, it's intended to be a base for those who like the stock system but want to be able to theme/mod it.

there are lots! just take a look in the development section. there are also alot of threads started with this same question that have alot of peoples reviews in this and the general section. Personally my phone plays well with stock based roms EB/ Weapon G2x/ Tsugi etc. where everything works well including the elusive GPS locks (within seconds on updated July Baseband) No FC or random Reboots. From reading throught threads ive noticed to each their own. as it seems many peoples G2x plays differently with each rom. best answer is to flash away and find the one for you.
Ill use this thread since it was already started.
I am running stock CM 7.1 right now.. I am looking to play.. BUT I would like to be able to re-install apps each time I flash.. maybe even save email accounts and SMS??
Does Titanium do this? whats best for doing this when you play with ROMs?
Or do you just suck it up and have to re-install each time??

ive also been using HFS as a daily driver since 1.0 and loving it!!! i tried EB and AOKP but both of those only stayed on my phone for about an hour and a half, long enough to play around and figure out i wanna keep HFS on my phone. video recording and playback dont work yet on ICS roms without the proper drivers, but theres videocam illusion in the play store, its free and works. and theres mxplayer in the play store too for video playback, just gotta set it to use SW decoding instaed of HW. so go for it!! youll like it.
boot animation
love the rom!!!!!!!! but i have no boot animation. is this supposed to be or is it something i am doing wrong i have wiped and reflashed but still the same. but still great rom great work thank you made me fall in love with my g2x again

Did u flash a different kernel? If so was it morfics? By using all 'stock' rom and such you shouldnt have this issue. If so grab yourself a copy of the nullifier, link in my sig, nullify and reflash.. or just flash faux's kernel and replace the boot animation... and should be good...

this looks really great
Been using this ROM since the first day 1.4 was released and i have not had any major issues, a reboot here and there. nothing i was not doing with any other ROM. But ICS is sick, i don't think i can go back.
I tried it for a couple days, it can be laggy if you are trying to do a bunch of stuff at once. I guess that could be different depending on if you have your CPU at the stock frequency or not. Overall it is pretty nice though, if you don't mind some lag here and there its great. After all ICS wasn't released too long ago
Not too stable yet, but no ICS ROM is. Def a great ROM to see what ICS is all about. I tried EB and HFS and my phone liked EB better. I say its worth flashing and trying all ICS ROMS and seeing for yourself.
Pharaoh, thanks for the information on the kernel/boot ani. Would you mind posting a link to Faux's kernel you recommended for this rom, please?
