After flashing firmware, you need recovery installed.
Then, you need to go to recovery & format all partitions except SD Card.
Finally, you need to install a ROM from recovery.
Refer this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472298
You don't need firmware.

Then it sounds like your phone is ****ed
how can i restore it?
If I knew that I'd have offered a solution. I've not got a clue. Perhaps go back to stock and start again?
Does it get stuck on the HTC screen after you reboot? If so then reboot into recovery using adb and wipe cache and dalvik then reboot, other than that I don't know what else to say for a solution. Oh btw it won't update the number on the bootloader until you reboot into it, if that's what you're asking.

Wait, what says you have that info? The bootloader screen? That has to do with revolutionary, and mine says the same thing. I don't know why revolutionary does this, but just ignore it. You're S-off? Great, that's all you need to know.
Go to Settings --> About phone --> Software information --> More and see what version radio you have. When I do that, it shows me having the latest radio, which it should, because I flashed the new radio a few days ago.

So what you're saying is after you flash the radio, on the bootloader it still shows the old radio number right? It will update the number after you do a reboot, or like the guy above me said in settings - about phone and baseband number the one you flashed will show there.
When you install the 10.15.9035.02_2 it is shown in hboot as 10.14.9035.02_2.
So if the extension is 2_2 you have the new radio.

Semi-bricked, ICS RUU issues

Last night I flashed the gingerbread coredroid ROM and it worked fine. I just didn't really like the looks of some things, so I thought I'd change to a different ROM.
I thought about flashing the ICS Insertcoin ROM, so I flashed it, and it kept trying to boot, but turned off and kept repeating. But then I read that I was supposed to update the firmware, so I took out the SIM card and connected it to the computer and copied the 3.24 RUU to the SD card.
I followed the instructions and the RUU set up properly through HBoot the first time. Then i went in to recovery to wipe data. It had to reboot the phone before I did anything else, and it went back into HBOOT and tried to install the RUU again, but this time it failed due to CID being incorrect! I didn't give it a second thought, but then the insertcoin ROM was doing the same thing, going through the boot up images and shutting off right in the middle, and repeating.
I tried another ICS ROM, Android Revolution, and same result. Failed booting. Then I tried restoring my nandroid backup from before coredroid, and it also kept trying to boot and then shut down. Then I tried coredroid again, and it had the same reaction, failed booting! I redownloaded the ICS RUU 4 times and repeated this process 4 different times, even with other GB versions of insertcoin and ARHD, and no dice!
I'm not entirely tech savvy, so maybe there is soemthing I havent covered yet. Now the RUU fails not because of CID, but because of incorrect Model ID. I read about goldcards, but I can't make a new one because the phone won't even boot! Please help me!
edit: as of now, the phone does not turn on to any rom or homescreen, ONLY Hboot and recovery.
Hello Jagerlowe,
The 3.24 RUU installs fully with 2 Boots into Bootloader, so there is nothing to be worried about. Here's how you could solve your problem.
1. Please follow step 4 from this Guide to obtain SuperCID, make sure that the SuperCID is 11111111! Mismatch of the SUPERCID causes the Error you were previously facing.
2. With the updated SuperCID, reinstall the latest ARHD 6.2.1 ROM.
3. Boot & flash the suggested radio if you are using the ARHD ROM.
You should be alright
Please keep me posted about your problem and hope it helped!
Remember to Thank me!

I can't quite do that because the phone doesn't turn on. It goes to the boot screen then shuts off. Then turns on, boot screen, off again. So I can't connect it to the computer or do anything like that.

What I am about to guide you through is downgrading your HBoot.
Firstly, download 1.17RUU - CHOOSE WHICH Service Provider, Location (CHOOSE THE RIGHT ONE)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
1. Boot into recovery mode and connect your phone to your computer.
2. Select "mounts and storage"
3. Then select mount sd card.
4. Copy the PG58IMG.zip into the Root of your SD Card.
5. Reboot your phone into bootloader again.
Your phone should automatically prompt you to begin update. After the update,
Your Bootloader should be downgraded. Then Flash a simple - any Gingerbread based ROM, and follow my post on doing SuperCID
Goodluck! Cheers

Stuck on boot screen/HTC logo

As the title says. I received an HTC Desire S, which is stuck on the htc screen, from my friend. It won't boot and it seems like a brick.
I can although enter the bootloader with power button + volume down.
These are the following information:
SAGA PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT -0.98.0002
RADIO - 3805.06.02.03_M
eMMC - boot
Mar 30 2011, 17:29:31
I tried flashing a RUU, but that didn't work. I think the major problem is with the S being ON. Is there any way I can boot this device at all? It's kinda of a shame since it's basically in a good as new condition...
Thanks for all the help in advance!
What happened when you tried ruu? Error?

The installation gets stuck at "Rebooting into bootloader".
I don't know about the warranty, but I'll tell him to return it if all else fails.
Are you sure that the necessary drivers are installed on the PC?
does the ruu give any errors? Or is that what you said above
If you enter the boot loader can you perform a full data reset? Any errors?
Swyped from my DesireS
Boot into bootloader, switch to fastboot mode (select FASTBOOT with volume keys and press Power), connect USB, see that you have correct drivers and the phone is recognized, run the RUU. It'll work.
Hi SlashSpeed,
propably you got the same problem like me. No solution for me so far:

This is not possible without adb or recovery?!
So here's my findings so far.
I tried running RUU from fastboot mode. No errors, installation gets stuck at "Rebooting into bootloader". I waited for over 2 hours and nothing happened. My PC recognizes the bootloader as "Android Bootloader interface" and fastboot as "My htc" in device manager.
I also tried running PG88IMG.zip with no luck. It gets stuck at [2] BOOTLOADER - Updating and nothing happens, even after hours.
The only think I have left for now, is the goldcard method it seems. I'll try it with my HTC G1 and report back.
Edit: Actually, I have no idea how to perform the goldcard method...some help would be much appreciated.

Actually, I asked him about that a couple of days ago and apparently, the device is not in warranty anymore. So unless I can fix it somehow, it's dead for good..
You need to unlock the device and S-off it before flashing a Custom Rom.
First follow this thread:
[GUIDE] How to S-OFF your 1.47.x ROM with Revolutionary
Then follow this thread:
[Info] After Revolutionary: install Clockworkmod, root & more
Or install 4ext and install 4Ext Recovery with the install button.
After your done, flash your desired rom. I would recommend Endymion Rom
If you want a stock rom let me know.
Hope this helped you, if not report back.

I have to do the quoted steps a-g with my HTC Dream, so I presume I'll have to use that device for the adb as well?

It's "PG58IMG.zip" not P"S"G58IMG.zip. If the name is incorrect, then it won't work.
You cannot do it from recovery, you must do it only from bootloader.
The reason I'm insisting on 4EXT is because it's much easier to use.
Follow my instructions properly.
And if you find all this difficult, just go to my tool, link in signature.
When it asks you to connect in HTC Sync mode with debugging enabled, just boot to recovery instead.

It's "PG58IMG.zip" not P"S"G58IMG.zip. If the name is incorrect, then it won't work.
You cannot do it from recovery, you must do it only from bootloader.
The reason I'm insisting on 4EXT is because it's much easier to use.

H I have unlocked the bootloader of the phone and tried to Install CM 9.
The phone won't read from the SD card and now won't boot fully.
I have installed a recovery .
I have tried flashing it again but the same issue.
Can someone give me a step by step instruction please on what to do

If your phone is S-ON and Hboot version is 1.2x follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861
If you have 4EXT Recovery Installed do "STEP 3", otherwise do "Extra 1: Flashing "boot.img"
