Wifi error: help please!!!! - Verizon Droid Charge

I was reading through the forums today and read that if you live in a non 4g area, (which I do, there is no 4g in any direction of me within 30 minutes) that you should toggle your system settings from LTE/cdma to cdma... though I have noticed a difference in longevity of my battery, my wifi doesn't work...? It simply says error next to wifi in settings.. lol. Any help/suggestions would be awesome! I'm assuming wifi works off the same radio as the lye and that's my problem???

What ROM/kernel combination are you running? An FP1 ROM with an EP4 kernel, or vice versa, will cause that exact problem.
EDIT: To be clear, Wifi and LTE are completely, 100% unrelated. You'll get the wifi error on a mixed rom/kernel regardless of radio settings.

Well I'm glad you made the LTE and wifi being unrelated clear for me but, I run dwitherells tweak 2.1/tonsit/ext4/ transparent ice theme. That's why I'm so clueless to the situation. Lol

0 dBm but still connected to 3G

So lately I've been having this problem where all of a sudden I won't be able to send text messages, so I was trying to troubleshoot and I noticed that when that is happening the 3G icon is still present but status shows 0 dBm and that I'm still connected to CDMA rev A but nothing works, not even internet I literally have to restart my phone to get it to work properly again.
Anybody got ne ideas?

*228 prl update?
also, what are you running on your phone. more details will be helpful. If you are running a custom kernel / rom try a different kernel.
I've done the prl update.
I'm running the mesmerize 6/16 Heinz 57 rom with the OTB 1.6 from nemesis.
I'm also heavily undervolted.

Will do I wonder why undervolting would effect the radio.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I would imagine that undervolting the processor could affect any part of the phone, including signal searching. You also might want to just try a different kernel. I have had good results with peanut butter and others. I know people were having trouble with OTB 1.6 in that particular release.
Also, you might try adjusting settings as perscribed in this thread, though I don't know much about the hidden menu:

I had an opposite issue from you last week (was stuck roaming and could not get onto cellular south towers). I fixed it following steps from dfgas.
Since you have h57 rom, you can try the following:
menu->tsm parts-> hidden menu ->data debug -> hdr/1x selection (if it asks for a code at any point, it's '000000').
Toggle the setting. For me toggling cdma/hybrid got me off of roaming when i was stuck. After the fact, I noticed setting it to evdo only would put me on roaming (I do this at work to get 3g, since Csouth doesn't have 3g at my plant)
Hope this helps.

Any way to increase the radio signal strength

My signal strength isn't the best, coming from a droid x I'm spoiled.does anyone have a fix or know if an update will fix radio issues and 3g or 4g from dropping.

You can download and flash the latest EP1W modems here.
Also you can check out the 3g Turbocharger script here.
All the info you need is either in there or linked accordingly. Be sure to read everything in full.
You could always try flashing the Ep1w radio and see if that helps. I personally have not had any signal issues. At home I get full service while my gf sitting next to me has to contort herself in some pretty freakish fashions to get even one bar of service on her Dinc2. I would say the stock radios are pretty good on these phones.

That 3G turbocharger script will likely do nothing for the 1X/3G connection, and in reality, it does nothing for signal strength. It is meant for GSM networks, and can potentially improve you up/down data speed. The best you can hope for when using it is a faster 4G connection.

This fixes data dropouts

Rather than bump up my old thread - first read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317575
Went 3 days without dropping data.
1. Root, 2. set to R/W 3. make a folder under /mnt called "radio" (all lower case, no spaces, no quotes, etc).
Gotta leave it as R/W... but it seems to be working.
If this works I'm going to hump you til you love me

Just in case that's too long, I'm running pbj time rooted ee4. Forgot to mention I have my modem set to 3g only, but it looks like most people were turning off lte while troubleshooting data dropouts anyway. I'm going to try 4g at the office next week where I know I get a good signal.

What about the read/write thing? I tried that when I noticed I was getting the errors in the error log. What's your log looking like? Any errors? I'm almost willing to try flashing a GB rom and checking it out. But I start stock and work my way up.
So far it's working for me. I normally get 4g for a minute or two before it switches to 3g/1x or dies. I toggled airplane mode and Now it's been on 4g and hasn't gone to 3g/1x since.
EDIT: It switches to 3g every now and then but thats alright.
I flashed EE4 radios on EP3 rooted and have a much more stable signal. Rarely drops out.
Edit: no sooner than posting this I drop data. I have that folder though.
Nevermind re read and its not what I thought
I get many data dropouts daily running EP3HA debloated.
Went to check that I have the /mnt/radio folder, it's there, both LTE and 3G log files are in there, and Root Explorer tells me that the content is already set to R/W.
Still waiting on Samsung for a solution I guess..
GC FE 2.0 with PBJT kernel and ep3 modems. The radio folder was missing for me... will report back on any changes
Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk
Did not notice any change from adding this folder. Also, the folder would be gone after each time I restarted the phone.
Not long after (unsure if there is a correlation, doubt it) EP3 modems started dropping data excessively. Re-ODINed the modems and all is well now.

[Q] Will a different radio fix this?

Hi everyone, I'm running CM10.0.0 Skyrocket with UCLD2 modem. I live in Jupiter, FL and when I am traveling through town and pass through areas that switch between HSPA, 3G, and 4G, I often have to toggle airplane mode to get data back. Is this due to my radio? I was doing research in the forum about the various radios and I couldn't find a definitive comparison of the various modems to each other with a chronology of release. I'd guess that newer modems are better, but then I read that sometimes that's not the case. Anyone care to weigh in on why I lose data connection when traveling through different data zones? btw i checked my APN settings and theyre fine.
I too run into the same issue but when I'm at work I know that if you running jb data loss has been known to be an issue with it yes the newer the modem can potentially fix or issue depending on situation best option is test

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Just an update, things still seem good with CI3 compared to my old radio. Only thing I notice is it doesn't really like 4G data, it'll say 4G and have good bars, and I can make and receive calls fine. But if I go online it'll stall, and I'll watch it struggle and then swap to H+ and be fine. That’s the only remaining quirk. Not sure why it's doing that.

I know no one is following this post at this point but I thought I'd post a final update about how i resolved the last issue I mentioned in the post above, just in case someone else has this same issue and searches the forum later.
I fixed my reception with 4G accidentally, i flashed the Lightning Zap v3 kernel to improve battery and lo and behold, reception hand off is fixed!!

baseband help

is there a way to reset the baseband? i wanted to try the "Jedi Mind trick SGSIII Style V2 rom" and flashed the baseband modem update that was in that thread. tried the rom a bit, then restored my previous rom that i was using prior before the jedi mind trick rom. and went to about phone in settings and saw that my "baseband version" was unknown. and i been receiving texts late. is there a way to fix this?

You can find the blaze baseband here, I'm using the newest T989 and signal seems better.
If you lose signal after flashing the radio you want a reboot usually helps or you may have to get the correct APN.

Ok decided I would update on my previous post... Today I could make a call where previously I couldn't (under the canopy at the warehouse), and I noticed I could make a call quicker after I lost/regained service than the previous modem. HUGE help for me. Funny thing though, my co-worker with a 989 still has to put hers on the window seal lol.

hows that 989d telus modem running for you? I am guessing that the reason the other modem software is working is cause the hardware is similar or same between some of these phones right? is there a way to find out what chip sets are on these phones to get an Idea of what other firmware works on some of these phones? the T989UVMC6 seems to help my charge time a little and dose seem a little faster on download speeds but still nervous about causing any long term problems but there is no signs of overheating or running flaky so I guess it should be fine.
thanks
I have done some preliminary testing with the UVMB1 and UVMC6 radios and have some very definitive results. There's a speedtest.net server where I live so there shouldn't be too much variance here. I have done some other testing with the other radio (the t989d) with mixed results. The t989d radio is very inconsistent where I live.
The UVMB1 is the first three results, and the UVMC6 is the next three. Pretty conclusive to me. I will be on the UVMC6 from here on
I'm also using the UVMC6 and it does seem to give me a stronger signal. I should probably run a test and get some "official" results.

been running all day with UVMC6 almost 14 hours and still 64% battery and I used my phone a lot today listening to Pandora radio for almost an hour and 4 or 5 phone calls and played on the web a little. I think I am safe to say it improved battery but I rarely loose much signal in KCMO so I cant say that signal is better but I may have seen more H+ than I normally see. my home has steel siding so I dont see as much H+ when inside but it seems to have been H+ most of the time I checked today.
and again thanks for sharing with the rest of us on this information, it has improved the quality of my phone so many thanks
Welcome, I found it when had my skyrocket and figured I'd try it out. It does seem to make signal stronger and battery. The 989D was ok just didn't hold signal to long
