[Q] Anyone able to extract the new radio from 1.84 update? - HTC One S

Hi, after the latest 1.84 release I would like to try to install the new radio on my htc ones s trying to resolve a rebooting issue I have when the phone switches from hsdpa to wifi.
My phone is rooted with custom rom now so I dont have access to the 1.84 update, but I understand there is a new radio embedded in the update itself.
Is there anyone able to extract it and release it as a zip file to install from recovery?
Thanks
Franco

+1 for this, anyone can do this?

If you looked around you'd see it's been posted quite a few times as a flashable zip.

Just updated to newer RIL (radio drivers)

I didn't want to change the radio firmware because its the firmware that came with the inspire 26.06.04.06_M. I updated RIL and afterwards the GPS gets a very solid lock fast 9 points. I now get 5 bars, I was getting 3 and the calls are more clear.
Please see this link here. I booted to recovery mounted /system and then ran the zip file update. Rebooted twice (I know what is the deal with the twice factor?) And, everything works great now.
I figure that updating to newer drivers is a lot safer than updating the radio firmware and I was correct.

should we flash the RIL you posted if we are on gingerbread or froyo? Does it matter?? I assume its safe with any gingerbread rom since you are running one...
and to the others...all you really need from that post is the install steps, which couldn't be any easier to understand:

Installation: (Tks to siedkins )
1. Reboot into recovery mode
2. Full nandroid back up
3. Select flash from SD card - select radio
4. Should get a notification to reboot to apply the radio flash
5. Once rebooted it will automatically take you back into recovery mode
6. Mount "/system"
7. Select flash from SD card - select RIL
8. Reboot once that has flashed and cross your fingers !!!

choosing a radio is really by preference so the best advice i can give you is to experiment with a couple of radio's till you find 1 that works well for you thats what i did
it wouldn't make no sense for me to tell you to flash this radio or that radio because some radio's may work good for some & not for others ya digg
I meant no point of flashing a stock rom 2.2.1 radio when I'm using gingerbread eh?

This might be an easier way for some of you to do this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061712
This has a .zip you download that will include 3 files. The new Radio, already in a bootloader ready PD98IMG.zip file, a file called id10ts_ATT_Custom_ROM_Speed_Booster.zip (which is actually just the new RILs and the Prop Editor app (which can be removed) which is CWM flashable, the 3rd file (telephony.db) will not be needed for this process
Put these 2 files on your SD, boot to bootloader and install radio. Boot to Recovery and flash RIL. Done
On a side note - I have not been able to get GPS to lock for the life of me on the last 3 or 4 ROM/Radio combinations I've had installed. I've tried every single fix on these forums and nothing seemed to work. I was most recently running Android Revolution 5.1.3 (Gingerbread ROM) with the recommended GB radio. I flashed this new ATT radio, flashed the RIL, flashed the radio again, flashed the RIL again, and I appear to have GPS back. Finally.

[FIRMWARE] T-Mobile Sensation 4G 12/7/2011 OTA Update PG58IMG Package

I have prepared a PG58IMG.ZIP for those who are looking for the firmware package that was included in the 12/7/2011 T-Mobile US OTA update for the HTC Sensation 4G. I have successfully flashed the PG58IMG.ZIP with no issues running a custom ROM (CyanogenMod 7 Alpha 10) and recovery. Power button issues appear to have been resolved, but due to their intermittent nature I cannot confirm 100%.
IMPORTANT: This does NOT flash a ROM and will NOT update your version number or any other settings you will be able to visually see. However, it DOES update your miscellaneous firmware partitions to the latest versions that were included in the OTA. These updates may be required to correct the power button or other miscellaneous issues with the touchscreen that people may be experiencing.
Please post your results or findings after flashing this package and whether or not your power button issues have been corrected. Also, please post other information about your phone setup - ROM, radio, kernel etc.
Release Notes for the OTA are as follows:
Code:
New Features
Software stability
Improved battery life
Improvements
Improvements to Trace dictionary
Screen unresponsiveness resolved
Device taking screen shots resolved
Lock screen shifted up resolved
Icon pixilation resolved
Improved Wi-Fi connection
Green lines on photo resolved
Additionally, the OTA firmware.zip includes the following:
boot.img
hboot_8x60_1.18.0000_20110802_signedbyaa.nb0
pg2fs_spcustom.img
rcdata.img
recovery.img
tp_PYD_CYP340F0C.img
My PG58IMG.ZIP has removed the hboot, boot.img, and recovery.img so you will be able to flash this on any ROM without reverting back to stock.
Flashing instructions:
1) Download the PG58IMG.ZIP from the link below
2) Place PG58IMG.ZIP on the root directory of SD Card
3) Reboot into Bootloader
4) Select Bootloader
5) A prompt will ask to initiate update
6) Confirm update
7) Press power button to reboot when prompted

It's not the entire OTA - just the firmware.zip included in the OTA. It's made into a bootloader flashable zip.
You will not lose root, it does not affect the ROM/Recovery/Hboot in any way.
The file is only 71 kb, maybe a bad upload?

should pretty much everyone install this?? It can only help right
And I don't think we should worry about the size because if it's just a change to firm wear it's probably just changing text values inside the software. is that right?

Nope, that is the entire file. It's just miscellaneous firmware that is installed on different partitions of the device.

Just flashed in hot boot file works fine Thanks
I thought the power button issue was kernel related.
Just flashed it and everything went fine, but phone says it is running software 1.45.531.1 not the newest 1.5
I think some people are missing the point of this.
It's not the whole OTA. It's the firmware aka stuff that you would get from flashing an RUU or OTA, but can't get from simply flashing a ROM. There's a lengthy thread somewhere started by rmk40 explaining this. I'd link it, but can't search on the XDA app. Your software version will not change from flashing this.
Sdobron, thanks very much for extracting this for us.

OTA on rooted phones?

My first question is: is it possible to get the OTA update on a rooted phone?
The 2nd question is there something I can do to get the Software Update check work?
I realise that my first question may answer this one as well, it's only just that all of the other ROM's I've tried did at least seem to contact a checking service and come back with a response that No Updates have been found. This one just keeps waiting for a response and never gets one.
Want to at least try the official OTA ICS update from Vodafone UK if possible, without having to load a stock ROM and locking my phone again.
Thanks

It has always been traditionally said not to apply an OTA on a rooted phone as, historically, it's caused nothing but problems. Whether the same is true now I can't say BUT I would not recommend it personally
do i need to uninstall only SU, or su and clockwork to install ota?
sorry for my bad english
thanks
CWM needs to go as well - you need the stock recovery
Thanks for the advice. I'll have to go stock if CM9 is a long way off. Or try 7.x again, although I'll really miss ICS.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
I think as long as you have stock recovery but are S-OFF; it shouldn't be an issue. I looked at some previous posts , albeit from the Evo forum and it seems to be fine. I could be wrong, though.
I keep seeing people post about being rooted and flashing the OTA update. Now someone please, please, please correct me if I am wrong, but when you flash as new ROM, unless you just flash a new system via ADB fastboot commands, you flash a new kernel and all every time you flash a new ROM. So therefor it does not matter if you are rooted cause the rooted kernel will be replaced with a new ROM. For those out there that do not know the kernel is contained in the boot.img of a ROM. Now in a s tock ROM it is. Of always named boot.img but it is still pretty much the same thing with maybe a little more than a custom TOM's would be. So please people stop wording about being rooted, it does not matter. If you are on the correct stock ROM and have the stock recovery you are good to go to flash and run the OTA. It does not matter if you are S-off or S-on either.
It does 100% matter as otherwise the SU app/binary will still be present and potentially cause issue to the 'stock' ROM. Go look at the Desire forums all over the net for examples as to why you shouldn't flash an OTA onto a rooted handset

So as long as you're stock recovery, and stock ROM, but s-off, it shouldn't have any bearing whether or not you upgrade ota... Right?

Ok I well look into this further when I get home from work. I have not looked at the Desire forums yet, bit I will later today. My question is though are the Desire users having to use the stock recovery, or has someone made a flashable .zip file for them of the OTA? If so this could have something to do with the troubles. Like I said I will check into this further this evening. I still say it should not as the kernel is replaced when you flash the OTA update, bit I could very well be wrong.
It's not that you can't do it, you can, it's just not recommended. By all means try it but should it go wrong flashing an RUU is all that would work

I totally understand what you are saying, but flashing stock is not the only way to fix it, it is just the easiest and most user friendly way to fix it. It is pretty much a one click fix, and that is because of the RUU it self. When you flash via a RUU the utility runs a Task 28 on the NAND memory first meaning the NAND is totally wipped, meaning all partitions, before the ROM is flashed. Now you can also use ADB to remove and reflash all partitions,Splash 1(mtdblock0), recovery(mtdblock1), boot(mtdblock2), system(mtdblock3). cache(mtdblock4), userdata(mtdblock5).
Now back to the question about being rooted, I still have not got home yet to get on my computer to look at the desire forums. Now from what I know root is acheived on the kernel level cause that is what root is. It allows for direct communication with the kernel, again correct me if I am wrong. Now I understand that Superuser app binaries would still be present if you flashed just the system. But if you flash a whole new ROM wich is what the OTA update does, then the kernel is replaced with the kerneel in the OTA update, which by is either a completely new kernel or a modified kernel that HTC has made to work with ICS. I have not had time to look into wich one it is, but from my experience of trying to help port the SDK of ICS to the Sensation it is probably a completely new kernel.
Anyway I will have to do some research on the differences between stock recoveries and custom recoveries. Specifically the processes the recoveries run when flashing a ROM from SD card, and just what all is in the OTA update files. Once I get to do this I will be more able to give a hard core answer to this question. Oh and thinks to the EddyOS for helping to get me back into digging around in ROM files and learning more about how Android works.
Edit: I totally forgot to mention JTAG, this is another way that you could fix the problem, all be it sort of a major over kill for the problem, but still a fix.

The answer is yes, so do as Pheroh says
Try to either flashing through recovery or manually dd-ing the image files.
Don't take an OTA or run an RUU, as that will update your HBOOT.
You want to stay on 1.08.

I dont want the OTA update, anyway the phone is rooted and using custom rom so dont think ota will ever work.
where can I find the latest radio, zip files flashable thru recovery or fastboot?

I can only hope will improve something. I have a problem with data switching from G to 3G to H for few seconds when I first start every session, I dont know it has impact on actually speed;
most annoying is the Bluetooth dropout from time to time, even at (very) short distances, my earpiece has no problem cause i tested with my other phones.
Anyway, if things goes wrong I still can go back to 0.16 radio I had before ( I hope at least )
Yes, flashing radios is Rom independent. Just don't upgrade to hboot .13 or higher. Or, you will have issues flashing radios. Hope new radio helps.

for the moment I use trickdroid 6.0, probably I'll change in the future if support and updates stop;
from what I know, changing rom's shouldn't change the hboot, only ruu upgrade will change it. true?
correct-
radios and hboots stay unless flashing a ruu
if/when we get s-off then hboot can be changed and we will be able to adjust partition table sizes for more data size
first day of testing, results are confusing
the data icon stays now mostly at 3G, think this is the real provider network; the differences in speed are not noticeable
for the bluetooth, the same thing, earpiece disconnect after few minutes even if with the phone in my hand; something is wrong here; I'll have to look for my older earpiece to try it. maybe plantronics 520 is not fully compatible with htc one s
should I try a custom kernel? any chance will help?
I had the Bluetooth disconnect issue . Haven't flashed a radio yet but flashing the Sensisimo Rom has seem to have fixed the Bluetooth disconnect. Fix could have something to do with the Rom being based off the latest update available (2.21 or something like that). I'm having data disconnect issues, does new radio fix it?
T-MobileUS HTC One S
I would try it, no harm done
looks like bloetooth disconnect is a small bug in trickdroid 6.0; tried another 2 earpieces and all are doing the same;
just flash trickdroid 7.1.0, I'll try it tomorrow and came back with feedback.

cool thanks, but i still want to see pyro43284's folder and screenshot....theres alot of files missing compared to the system/etc/firmware files cm10 has, which is the TMoUS newest radio...or maybe they didnt all extract or maybe this radio just updates these specific files in an already existing EU radio install....so pyro, if youre reading this, id still like to see those
I picked up a One S to keep me until my Nexus 4 arrives.
I love HTC phones OS but I hate the reception! I have had three HTC's, 3 Motorola, 1 Samsung and 1 LG in the last 6 months and the HTC have consistently been the worst for reception.
The current HTC, has this radio on it currently. 1.08ts.50.02.21_10.09c.50.04L. I am trying (unsuccessfully I might add) to flash a different radio (radio-0.16.31501S.17_2_10.23.31501S.10L)
I have tried fastboot, with no success ( I can a have been able to use fastboot on this current phone without issues), I have tried from CWM and have tried with TWP without success.
Here is my setup.
CM 10 (nightly but the lastest, 10-20121108-nightly-ville)
HBoot 1.14.0004
Current radio (however while in fastboot usb mode the radio reads 1.09ts.50.02.04?, why would this be different)
You see by the picture it is dropping the signal consistently.
Any help would be appreciated.
