Hi everyone, i would like to know if someone with knowledge in android programming could be able to make this weather widget work on ICS? I´ve an Optimus 2x (P990) running Owain's ICS rom with LG UI 3.0 Launcher.
I made an upload of the application here: http://minus.com/mSs1h9aUw/
I'll explain better, this is Froyo lg stock rom weather widget , and for me it was always the best. The only problem lies in the widgets because I can install the application and make it work, but the only widget that works is 2x2, the 4x2 and 4x3 appears to me the message "problem loading widget."
If the 2x2 works well, why not the others?
Here´s a foto of how the widget looks like, in this case 4x2 widget: http://i446.photobucket.com/albums/qq183/lesp4ul/2011-07-21103934.png
I would appreciate very much that you could get a solution
Thank you.
Does this work on Gingerbread? Is root needed?
Without source code it's pretty much impossible to help you with this kind of problem, sorry.
If you happen to know the developer you could contact him and ask if he could update the widget to ics compatible version.
Yes, it works on GB and you must have a rooted phone cause you can´t install this widget, you have to put it in the system/app folder and set permissions for it to work.

No you can't. The source code is clear instructions in human readable form. That code is translated to executable java byte code before the program can be used.

Ok mikpel, thank you very much for your quick reply, but is it possible to go backwards from the finished app to the source code?
Reverse engineering is hard but possible at some level. Also, usually it's something the developer don't want you to do. Some even use a program like ProGuard to obfuscate the code and make the reverse engineering process even more difficult.
I think it's easier to just create your own weather widget

Ive seen the 1st Hero with real animation on the Home flip clock, I know devs took it of as a memory hogger, Is it me? but I dont recall seeing the home flip clock's animation even when I had all stock apps. I;d like to get it from GSM Hero and use it over here.. if any one can get it please post apk files.
Thanks in advance.
Clock animation and i think certain weather animation too was taken out for us to reduce lag. I dont care though, i'd like to have the animated flip too.
I just want the weather animation lol, that crap is cool on a winmo phone.

I'm pretty sure nobody has this widget anymore. Sense no longer includes this. I'm pretty sure the only way to get it is to find an early unreleased build of Sense. Haykuro's old builds would work but I was never able to get one from him.

Same here. When installing, it says...
"Clock widget could not be installed on this phone."
i tried installing through package installer, adb push, and i also tried to figure out the differences between the apk's of the one that kendong included in the linked post and the one on our heros. i tried to put some files that looked like handled the flip animation work, but its not working. D:
Got the file.. here it is if anyone else wants to look into it.

It was released - the original pre.2.73 (1.7x) had the flip clock. 2.73 was a "performance" update that removed the flip. Personally, I'm of the opinion that it wasn't the flip per se that caused the lag, just that it was seen to be.
You can find the ROMs here.
Regards,
Dave
i'm thinking that this isn't possible. not sure though.
after messing around with 4 different htcclockwidget.apk s, i've noticed that there's not actually a difference between the one that doesn't flip and the one that does. i think the differences lie in the AndroidManifest.xml, which is doing some sort of weird thing because when i place the old AndroidManifest.xml in the widget we have, Clock doesn't show up under the HTC widget menu to add. i have the feeling its got to do with the version numbers that are stored in the AndroidManifest.xml, but i can't seem to open the file because there's some sort of a syntax error. if i could access it the chances of making it work are probably 1% higher anyways, cause i don't know xml
Justinisyoung, tell me what I would need to change in it. My desktop runs Linux, so I may be able to open it somehow

i'm really not quite sure, which is why i'd like to take a look. but i have an idea that it's the operating system versions, for example, the old clock widget was probably made for 1.73 or whatever the first version was. we have to probably change it so it works with our version... cause apps have to be version consistent.

yeah so do i tbh, even the winmo sense port has the animation.
Android XML files are NOT standard XML files, they're compiled binary. I'll refer to Stericson's post here on why you can't simply edit these.
i don't see how it could be a resource hog when there are other animated clock widgets?
Hopefully they'll have it figured out and fixed in the 2.1 update.
This app is no longer being updated and may cause issues on newer versions of Android. Use at your own risk!
Description
Font Changer allows you to change the font on your Android device. Some (most likely people from the HTC Desire forum section) may be familiar with an older version which required flashing an update, however these two versions don't require it (check the requirements section for more).
Basically you can put your TTF fonts in /sdcard/.fontchanger/ (location can be changed in the settings) and then you can apply a font once they have been found by the application (inside Font Changer there are more detailed instructions on how to do this). You can also set the fonts individually using the advanced mode. It works just by copying the selected font to the system partition and overwriting the current font. Backup is automatic, although occasionally it breaks resulting in the need to fix the fonts manually or with an update (usually the cause of messing with the fonts alongside with Font Changer).
Font Changer used to only have a paid version for the past few months, but with the new Market changes I have decided to add a free version. While most cancellations happen within a few minutes after purchase, not all do... and 15 minutes is just too short! Plus some people are not in a country where they are allowed to buy paid apps. Anyway, that's my reasoning.
The application should be removed from its settings to restore the default fonts and density. More information can be found on its Market page and inside the application.
Requirements
root
system write access (aka NAND unlock or S-OFF)
busybox
custom recovery (not a requirement per-se, but highly recommended in case something goes wrong)
Reviews
DroidDog
Coming Features
Fix up setting custom website for preview
Set dark/white theme
Rework UI for the font picker
Rework UI for the density changer
Need some icons for the Basic/Advanced tabs
Add more fonts to be replaced in Basic mode
Check font integrity
Shake for a random font
Really thanks for share.

OK, done. Although if your signature is correct and you have a GT540, Font Changer doesn't have support for it yet as I need some information to identify the device (the person with a GT540 who was helping me has gone somewhat quiet and I haven't managed to finish it without his input).

1. There are multiple rooting methods for the GT540, and some of them work with Font Changer and others don't. I'm afraid I don't have any specific information on this. If 1 works, then check out 2.
2. The GT540 uses different fonts than the default Android ones. I know which ones and already have the code in the application to make it work, however all I need is to identify the device for which I require someone with a GT540 willing to help.
Anyway, feel free to give it a try and see what will happen.
Tried right now, works well. Looks **** cause of fail font.
Some informations for you: Got 2.2.1 based on CyanogenMod, Recovery 2.5.0.5.
Yeah. Thank you!

OK, your one works because you have CM which uses default Android fonts
You're welcome.
Version 1.7.1.3 has been released, per-user request.
It is now possible to specify in the settings whether the regular font should be used to replace the clock, or whether the default clock font should be used. Some ROMs make use of the clock font, others don't, so the option may not have an effect for everyone.
Doesn't work for me on rooted GT540 with stock Android 2.1 update. I am willing to help with any testing.
I've ben using this app for a while (paid version) and it works very well.
Seems to work on the HTC Vision /G2/Desire Z. Thanks a lot! (Got the paid version to support development)

Hi there. It doesn't work as in when you set the font it does nothing?
If that's what happens then you could try running the app which I attached in this post and send the report which it generates by GMail, or any other method that works for you. I'm missing identification information for the GT540.

Thank you, I added those devices to the supported list. A little surprised that they all have full root since they only came out recently. On the Desire we had to wait for a while... >_<
And thanks to all those who bought from the Market to support development, it's greatly appreciated.
Very nice app. Thank you for developing it! Works perfect on HTC Desire
It seems that only ttf files are working, if anybody has a font which is otf for instance you can convert them here http://onlinefontconverter.com/
Hope op don't mind that i posted the link.
Thanks again

Just a second. You are giving me conflicting information. Did it say you don't have system write access OR root? Both will never be shown at the same time, I checked the code twice just now.
EDIT: Never mind, I was able to see that page. I'll get back to you soon hopefully.
it said it doesnt have write access. didnt say anything about root. sorry about that
EDIT: it said it didnt have full root. i must be tired, or something, lol.

Hello everyone,
I recently started working at my own custom theme which will be mainly flat black with white icons and android green highlights. I've shown it to a couple of friends and they really quite like it. I've updated every single image in the Framework-res.apk so it really is a complete revamp.
Now, I also want to edit some of the applications that I installed to match the theming (for example Handcent SMS and Winamp). I managed to pull the apk files from my phone, decompile them, edit the images and rebuilding them. But I can't seem to manage to push them back to my phone with succes because they get "uninstalled" when I push the files back to overwrite the originals (they are removed from the app drawer).
I wonder if anyone of you knows why and if it's solveable, I really like Winamp and Handcent SMS.
Cheers in advance!
Do you resign the app ?? use apk manager ??
I am not that clever to do that stuff, but it sounds like when you mod widget locker and you dont sign the apk file, if i am completely wrong sorry just trying to help

I did not resign the app, I didn't even know such thing excisted. I'm not that smart myself, I'm just a stupid designer knowing how to photoshop really well But other than that I just followed some tutorials.
If you could explain to me how to resign an app that would be of great help. Thanks!
Search for widget locker mods and in that post at the top there is a piece of kit called apk manager, follow the instructions and it will resign your apk and allow it to be used

You'll be the first one to know when the theme is finished. I'm making quick progress now. I'm gonna edit some more apps that I frequently use. Winamp is almost fully customized. I'm not quite sure how to pack everything up into an easy installer for you guys to use. But by that time I will ask for help again, I'm sure there will be loads of people who will teach me how to do that when they see the final product.

I was a bit annoyed by the addition of the "last updated" line in the Asus Weather widget included in the 3.2 update. I thought it was ugly and provided a bit too much information to the widget. Since there wasn't an option to switch it off, I disabled it from being displayed. I also edited the widget layout files to create another version with smaller text. A screenshot is attached that shows the original (top) and the modified (bottom) Weather widgets. The second screenshot shows the original (top), modified (bottom left), and modified & resized (bottom right).
Root access is not required as the modified Weather widget is not a system application and can coexist with the original Weather widget. The ModWeather.apk installs like any other application and does not replace the original Weather widget. After installing the widget, I found a reboot necessary to get the widget to appear in the list.
I have received confirmation that it works without root.
Update: I received reports of these modified widgets not working for some. Upon investigation, I believe I found the source of the problem and have corrected it. I also rebuilt the modified widgets using the stock widget from a system dump of build 8.6.15.13. If you installed these modified widgets prior to October 7th 2011, you may want to install the updated version(s). I updated the version number to 1.0.2 to facilitate upgrading from the previous 1.0 version.
Update 2: With the release of ICS, Asus included the ability to resize the Weather widget to 1x1, 4x3, or 4x4. The 4x4 variant includes a daily forecast. I have been working on a resized variant w/ the 'last updated' text removed. While it is still a work in progress, the latest revision can be found here.
Feel free to let me know whether it works or not for you and don't be afraid to press that little thanks button below.

There have been several inquiries related to the battery widget in the screenshots. It is actually a widget that I created for my own use and has nowhere near the features of some of the other offerings. My Transformer is my first real exposure to Android, so I wanted to write my own to get a better understanding of Android application development. I also wanted to use images that complemented the Asus Weather and Date widgets. I am providing this widget as is and cannot guarantee any further development and/or improvements. However, feedback is always appreciated.
Battery widget updated to version 1.1.0 on August 16th 2011.

Unfortunately yes. but there are of course alternatives like " beautiful widgets" in the market for the clock. And pure calender for the calendar. Both are available in the market but both are paid. Worth it tho if you ask me. That way, you can have your cake and eat it too.
The problem with this is that you need the Sense API to use the HTC widgets. It's sorta like trying to run a Windows program on Mac or Linux.
Beautiful Widgets free has a nice clock though
