I just received my new One X today and the screen looks perfect when it arrives (with the seal broken because the vendor inserted the SIM card for me...). But after I started using it for a few moments and left some fingerprints on the screen, I noticed a very weird mark at the bottom of the screen near the home button.
It doesn't feel like scratches because I couldn't feel it with my fingers and after I wipe the screen using a microfiber cloth, it becomes invisible. But whenever I touch the place using my finger or exhale towards there which moistens that place slightly, the mark shows up. I suspected it might be some kind of glue, but it doesn't feel sticky and I just can't wipe it off.
Any ideas would be highly appreciated. Sorry I'm a new user and can't post external links for my pictures...
What does the mark look like, does it look like a scratch ( a straight line) or something else? Its possible for a scratch to be superficial enough that you can't feel it.
On the other hand, maybe its just residue from the film that was on the screen (to protect it in shipping). Wiping with a bit of glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth should help dissolve something like that.

Thanks for your input.
The mark looks like a label (wish I could show you the pictures somehow) and that's why I suspected it might be glue from some sticker.
I just tried the lens cleansing liquid and no success. Now I'm thinking maybe it really is a superficial scratch because after I wipe the entire screen using microfiber cloth I can still see these marks from certain angles.
Decided to ask for a replacement. Do they usually send the new phone or the refurbed phone as replacement? The store is Walmart Wireless.

I used my Nexus S without a screen protector, and there was one day when I was using the phone heavily, this part of the screen felt a little rough to the touch when I was swiping it.
Now when I look at the screen I see these faint track marks on the screen that aren't scratches, but it's like something smudged the screen. I have wiped it with microfibre cloth (My Oakleys pouch) but I can't remove this smudge.
It's barely visible when the screen is on but you can see it if the screen is off.
Does anybody else have this problem? Is it a scratch or can I wash this off somehow?
I have similar spots... it's most likely the oleophobic coating wore off in that area. Not sure how it happens, but it seems to be ****ty coating.

I also have one such small spot that is only visible when the screen is off, and only visible at a certain angle with a lot of light. It's been there since I got the phone. It actually looks like it's under the glass, but I can't tell for sure. I can't feel it. I've been keeping an eye on it and I'll utilize Best Buy's protection plan if it gets worse. Im glad I'm not the only one, but this is a little disappointing.
It's problably the oleophobic coating like others said. I have the same thing on mine, and have been thinking of exchanging it because of it. But I think I might as well keep it, as this phone has no other problems, and I'm sure it will probably wear off any phone I get with due time.
Take a paper towel and lightly go over that area. I bet it comes clean so you can't see it anymore until you wipe your oily fingers in that spot again. It seems oils like to get stuck in those spots unless you clean it with something that absorbs oils, and isn't reused over and over.
Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah I am hesitant to do a return as my phone works great with none of the issues faced by others.
I'll try cleaning it as suggested. Thanks!

I had the smudges that Kayatoast talked about. I just wiped it off with a paper towel and it disappeared. I guess we must clean it with something that absorbs oil.
My smudges probably came from the hand lotion...
I've also decided not to return mine because I don't want to get a replacement phone with a worse problem.
As for wiping it off, this may work for others in some situations, but the spot on mine is definitely a blemish/defect. Cleaning it has zero effect.
I used iklear to clean the screen then wiped it down with a microfibre cloth. That took care of the smudge. Then I slapped a screen protector on it and that took care of the smudge..now to get rid of those air bubbles..lol.
I recommend this brand: http://www.protectionfilms24.com/pr...geraeteklasse=7&marke=Samsung&modell=4603&go=
Arrived in 2 days, made by 3M and doesn't affect my screen clarity at all.
I just realized the same type of smudge on mine today. It's not on top of the screen, but seems like it's under it. Like others, I didn't want to exchange it because everything else works fine plus I'm out of my 30 day period with no exchange.
If I remember, I'm probably going to do a warranty exchange before it ends.
When I was cleaning my screen to put on my cheap eBay screen protector, I noticed the same smudge in the middle of my screen. No amount of cleaning removed it completely. On went the screen protector, and "Voila", smudge disappeared .
BTW, the eBay screen protector is very close to screen feel as the naked screen and is completely clear. Free with the $3.99 shipped silicone case... gotta love eBay!!!

You know, I thought this was a joke until I got the cheap screen protectors that came with the S gel case. Yeah, it disappears. Weird since it looked like the smudge was under the screen.
Phew im glad im not the only one, the smudge is barely noticeable except under light and while the screen is off. Going to try to clean it.
Is the smudge you guys are talking about, blue by chance? I have a slight blue streak underneath my screen since it was purchased. To best describe it, it looks like a shiney blue streak from cleaning with windex that never dries.

The problem is interesting and has several characteristics.
First: First, there seems to be an oily surface on my sensation that persists even after cleaning it.
Second: The surface of the screen has formed an odd shape that is containing this oily surface. For example, the oily surface is in a oval shape, and outside of that oval shape it seems as though the oleophobic coating is still there which prevents it from getting dirty; it strangely acts as a barrier which keeps the oil within the oval.
After battling with this problem, I decided to go on a hunt on figuring out any remedy to the problem. I realized that the problem might be because the oleophobic coating has worn away. Or, something far more probable and unfortunate is that the windex that my brother used on both of our sensations to clean the screen a while ago might have caused some chemical reaction in causing this.
I decided to clean the screen with alcohol pads, eye glass cleaner, and even went on to use Rain X to fix it. All of these solutions lasted a day, and then the oval oily spot would come back.
It seems as though the screen has turned into an oil magnet where wiping it away won't do anything...at all. It's as though its trapped there until the use of alcohol pads or glass cleaner is applied with a micro fiber cloth. But again, after some use it just gets dirty again.
I finally figured out my cheapest solution would be to clean it with eye glass cleaner and apply a screen protector.
My concerns in buying a screen protector is that I need it to be clear without pixelating the screen (like Zagg) all while being able to use Swype effectively. any suggestions?
By the way, I found some others that had this problem but no solutions either: http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-nexus/487288-odd-spot-my-screen-wont-come-off.html
EDIT: SORRY; Mod's can you please move this to Questions and Answers... sorry about the post.
The ammonia in the Windex was the most likely culprit in causing this problem. Unfortunately, once used on a screen with oleophobic coating there might be irreparable harm. The reason for this is because the glass has been bonded with the oleophobic coating and the ammonia works to destroy the finish and the polymers on the screen.
I am sorry that I can't offer you an suggestions on what screen protector to use, but there seems to be a thread indicating the ultra thin and, apparently ultra cheap, lcd screens are fine to use with this.
i just use a microfibre cloth to clean my screen, And my breath (its potent enough) And that works well for me
Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1164740 I have one, Fits perfectly you cant even notice its on if done correctly. Swype is just as responsive and no blurry image or nothing !!

Thanks. I am trying to find the same protectors without using a Paypal account (I don't have one, nor do I want one).
Are these the same ones from Amazon?

Because they got crappy reviews...
I've seen a few videos on how to apply a tempered glass screen protector, but I'd like a few tips on how to apply one from those who have done it without any bubbles and problems.
What should I do to apply one without any problems? I have a new tempered glass screen protector and I want to install it without any problems.
TIA

Not gonna have bubble from a tempered glass screen protector. Most important thing is cleanliness. Removing every possible piece of dust/fiber/dirt/fingerprints/etc from the phone will make the application much cleaner and nicer. That, a steady hand, and some patience. But, this is probably better off in the actual forum about Accessories.
I applied a few screen protectors using as reference yt videos (nothing I invented).
Overall it's important to:
- plan plan plan. do your homework, see how and where it should fit (you can use the hinge method, but I usually find that a lot more error prone than good old preparation and careful placement and a lot of patience).
- work in a well lit environment.
- work in a clean environment (it is very well worth to apply the protector in the bathroom after a shower, or with the hot water running - settling all the dust).
- use no marks sticky tape the ones that are translucent white are the best - no need for any brand or something).
- clean the screen with a micro fiber cloth and some screen cleaning products (you should not over do it but it should usually clean and smudge / oil / lint free).
- use pieces of sticky tape to "tap and remove" any visible dust from the screen (usually I use a led flashlight to create an alternate spotlight on the screen to find dust).
- apply the protector and try to get it right in the first go (it is fairly important for glass protectors to not lift them). for regular protectors you can always lift them and remove dust, but double check about glass ones because those should not be lifted and reapplied as far as I know.
- smudge any bubbles as per the screen protector instructions.
in installed the MIME featherglass temperred screen protector...
suggestions?? CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN enviorment
(i did this)
go to your bathroom, wipe the counters clean....
pre clean your screen with a non streak cleaner...
clean it using a non fiber cloth for glasses
turn shower head to HOT and let it run a few minutes until your mirrors start to fog mirrors
wash hands, (no greasy fingers for this)
turn shower off, and leave door closed. start the process
once again, wipe the screen again! make sure u shake the cloth and wipe again
look at different angles to make sure its not dusty
take film off screen protector... hold by borders using the very tips of fingers
start by getting real close to the earpiece, center it, and ensure the borders are even....
keep getting closer, once it makes contact with earpiece and its centered, put a finger on it lightly to prevent movement...
before letting the screen protector down, make sure its lined up to be straight and just start to let gravity make the contact
squeeze bubbles starting from center towards borders if needed... i had not a single bubble...
i had to peel mine up to aligh it perfectly because i didnt do this above the first time
now i have a perfect protector with no dust, no bubbles and its awesome

my bathroom doesn't have a counter, so I guess I'll leave my room for a couple of hours with the windows shut and try that! thanks for the tips!
I read somewhere in the past about using one of those GPS windshield (glass) mounts for installation.
It worked like a charm for me. What you do is stick the mount in the center of the tempered glass protector.. and drop it onto the screen. It's much easier to place perfectly and no accidental fingerprints along the edges.

I had a feeling suction cups like those might be hard to hold onto, so applied my tempered glass protector using the same method and a GPS mount

This thread was about how you should apply a tempered glass protector.. All I can see is you suggesting to buy a new screen protector.
Besides that, you do realize that this thread is over 3 months old, right?
Otaofans only makes posts that promote the oato screen protectors. And for that reason alone I vote that none of us ever buy an oato product. Who's with me?

my screen has this 3 marks across (something like when u swipe across the screen with a dirty finger and it leaves the print of swipe) which is caused by the Samsung screen protection film that you have to peel off when you first get your phone. but I had left it on as I have yet to buy a screen protector and occasionally it would peel off but I would just press it back and I guess that's how I got the 3 lines at the place where it peeled off and I stuck it back after finally deciding to do without that film thing.
I've been trying to remove the marks thus I used a micro fibre cloth to wipe the screen and also tried using scotch tape on it too. it would disappear but after using it awhile it would return again which gets quite irritating as sometimes it would be noticeable when the screen is off under the sun. I'm currently refraining from using alcohol wipes as I heard it damages the oleophobic coating.
Was wondering if anyone has any idea how else to remove the marks. anything would be appreciated thanks!
Edit: finally managed to get pictures of the streaks that wont disappear. http://imgur.com/a/yPoxw
So my idea worked and i now have a full adhesive screen protector. Covers from edge to edge and there is no halo effect. The protector is on good and does not peel/pop out. I am using a unicorn beetle pro full body case and no problems. Before the case would pop out the protector but not anymore.
What exactly was your idea?
How did you manage this? (For the people that haven't been keeping up with your posts, such as myself.)
Did you use LOCA or OCA film?
Sent from my Galaxy Note7 using Tapatalk
so much detail. so much wow. i wish there was more information, like, what you used, how you did it, instead of a brag post. thanks for the pictures though!
One of his older posts discussed using LOCA. If you use LOCA, how do you get it off if you ever want to remove the screen protector?
Yes I used LOCA glue. To take it off you just heat it. It should be easier to remove than when replacing the digitizer.
I got a couple air bubbles though but id rather have that than a scratched up screen lol
Interesting.... but more info on how to do it and what products to use would be great. Thanks OP.
I was just thinking about if this was a solution two days ago, but this is exciting news that its worked. My question is, is the LOCA a problem to handle, because i could see using too much might have some go into the speakers or just seep from the borders. when originally applied. and is there a way to make sure we don't get bubbles?

Yea i got a little on the speaker but you just have to be care full and as it seeps kut clean it with a rag. The good thing is that it wont dry until you put the black light on it. The part you have to be the most carefull with is the home button. Loca will make it sticky and a little harder to press. I also reccoment you get a protector that is completely clear as the one i got has black on the top and bottom and it prevents the black light from drying the glue under those areas. Clean the screen good. To avoid bubbles look at youtube and see how they apply it. Basically a stick figure but instead of a head it is a y shape. Carefully place the protector and let is slowly spread on its own. Once it stoos spreading then you could slowly press down on it and remove the remaining bubbles. I lined uo thw home and back buttons first and made sure the cut outs were aligned for the camera and sesors. Then i applied the black light on the bottom half furst so that it would align properly. I did this while pressing down on it because the air bubbles kept coming up. I also covered up the top half so that wouldnt dry up. Oncw i got the bottom i got rid of any air bubbles on the top half and did the same. After that i put the phone in a box., close it up, do a cut out for the black light to fit and let it sit for a couple minutes to dry more. Then i cleaned and dried the edges. Make sure not to leave too much of the loca in between the screen and protector so you wont get touch senaitivity issues. And do it where there is no dust. I oly got 1 small air bubble but some like white spots that appear to be dust. And again clean the speaker, home button, sensors, and camera before drying. You could also just scrape it off with a plastic blade that the loca came with. And make sure to use liquid version and not the film.
