This is my first post. OK I have the GB 2.3.3 update I did it through the LG updater the day it came out. The whole process went smoothly with no problems. But I heard that 2.3.3 is just a beta and that 2.3.4 will be the final and I think that they said it is going to be over the air so my question is will I get the OTA update and what should I expect? Do I have to keep checking myself through the check update in options or will it just be forced to my phone when it is time? Or Should I keep checking the LG updater to see if they have it?
I'm sorry for all the Noob questions but I this is only my second smartphone my first android and I have never received an OTA update. I heard that the stock camera only is capable of 720p there is no way that they are going to leave it that way. One of the features of the phone was the ability to shoot in full 1080p so I would assume that .4 will contain a really good camera app.
Lastly I have to say that I love this phone I have not had the troubles that others have had and that's not to say the problems don't exist I just didn't have them. there have been a few issues here and there but certainly nothing major and you gotta remember this is a small computer and I have been around computers all my life and have never seen one that didn't have its share of bugs and problems. It is just the nature of the beast and a smartphone is no different. But I guess I don't have to tell you guys that I really like what is done over here at xda keep up the good work boys.
Thanks,
Charlie
Getting the GB 2.3.3 update through LG update shouldn't preclude you from getting a future 2.3.4 update (if at all) from either LG or Tmobile OTA.
Thanks thats a good thing. So ny next question would be is the OTA update that they are rolling out 2.3.4? or is it the same thing that I got 2.3.3. Also will my phone just let me know when it is ready and say something like ota update is ready for your device and give me a option to continue? What is the process. Thanks for your help ahead of time.
Is it normal that I still haven't gotten any OTA update? Im over in NY and went to stock ROM, went to stock recovery, and unrooted the phone. When is the OTA update rolling out until? Did it stop? I keep getting connection failed when manually looking for a software update.
And I don't want to manually use the LG tool because I am afraid of bricking the phone and don't want to go through the trouble of unbricking it.
I never got the OTA either and it was announced they stopped. The LG updating didn't brick my phone either.
I was actually wondering the same thing.
I called Tmo CS over a week ago, and he swore that I would be getting either an email, text or phone call, letting me know that I would be getting the update. He was nice, but I think he was new (didn't seem all that sharp). I did ask him about the rumor that they stopped the OTA, and he said that there was nothing about that in his system. He said, according to his system, it was still active. I asked him like 3x lol.
I have a refurb, so can't use the LG update tool. I know there is an alternate way of doing it, here on the forums, but I'm just too darn lazy lol. I will be calling Tmo again, in the next few days. If I get any useful info, I will pass it along to you.
I like my G2x, but honestly...between LG and Tmo, this has been one, huge clusterf**k. Thank God for the devs here, and around the net. They have done what LG and Tmo have continuously failed to do...made me a happy G2x owner!
ive had the same issue trying to do it by the phone so used LG tool and .... bricked my phone
i called Tmo and they exchanged my phone at no cost. the new one came with Gb preinstalled.
Why not just screw the OTA and grab one of the great custom, pre rooted roms. I did the OTA thing and had to re root. Ran the official update for two days and got tired of the thing. The custom roms spoil you.

I'm running EB 2.3.3, and love it. And thanks to EB, I also love my G2X again. But I would like to have the new baseband. And I can only get that from the update.
Really, what I think it comes down to (for me), is that I want T-Mobile to step the hell up, and stop jerking me around. How do you release an OTA...but only to SOME? I've just never heard of such a thing. And how do you release your "flagship" phone, then realize it's got issues, and then try to sweep all the owners of said "flagship" under the carpet...where you don't have to deal with them any more? It just makes me sad. I used to brag to all my friends, how much I loved T-Mobile.

I kind of sympathize, but people recommend custom roms as a blanket solution to random issues way too often. Don't get me wrong, I love EB and CM, and xboarder's rom is fantastic, but the first two don't have a2dp and the latter won't still give you a new baseband. For people like me who have a non-functional gps and rely on a2dp, the official update is pretty critical.
Also, is there any evidence suggesting T-Mobile actually pulled the update? I think I know the post where this rumor started, and for what it's worth, a pretty knowledgeable rep told me about a week ago that the OTA is still rolling out, and will continue to do so through August. If the roll-out is slow, I don't think its too surprising considering what little space lg has to screw up again.

G2X CM7
Actually, although EB 2.3.5 doesn't have A2DP, EB 2.3.3 does.
And the mms works SO much better than other ROMS I've tried.

I think he is referring to the baseband update we received with the LG Gingerbread update, which wasn't to long ago (less then a month?).
While we got gingerbread officially and a baseband (from LG), the O2x just got a baseband.
The good thing is now we have a few basebands running around, maybe they can compare the two (coding wise) and pump out a true Dual 3G band like we were supposed to get.
nope

Lets settle and end this silly (an dangerous) discussion ringht now.
The O2X and G2x basebands are TOTALLY incompatible! If you want to brick your phone with respect to being ever able to connect to a network - go ahead and flash an Ox2 baseband.
Paul at Modeco has been making Ox2 basebands available for flashing, as due to all the different carries over there, there are many available.
He made a script to restore the basebands of Ox2's that were messed up when some owners made the mistake of flashing G2x software on them (his "disaster recovery" tool). He HAS NOT created one for recovering a G2X from flashing Ox2 firmware and/or basebands on it.
I asked him to, but he apparently has moved totally away from the G2x. A tool like that could have saved a good number of devices (like mine) that could not otherwise be recovered from the LG Updater issue.

The new baseband for the g2x has been amazing for me personally on gps. 95% of the time I lock within 15s. I did change my settings to tracking and ms based. And it helped get a lock in some places that didn't get one previously.

what are you settling. the poster and those discussing are quite aware tht basebands are not compatible with other devices. the OP was questioning simply due to the month newer date on the o2x one. so i dont think anyone was thinking about flashing it. He was just wondering if there may be newer one out there. than someone mentioned modifying the baseband which i stated i didnt think was possible or had ever been done. no one has answered that one for sure. But i havent seen it. ther is nothing silly about the discussion. probably worthless since there isnt a newer baseband available for the g2x at this time but what is sillly about this discussion?

Guys, there was another one of these reports about sudden catostrophic failure today:

I think it's high time to get to the bottom of this! To ALL users who have been affected by one of these events, PLEASE post the following information and nothing more:
1. ROM
2. Kernel
3. Firmware
4. Radio
5. OC/UV settings (if applicable)
I'd like to track these stats and tally them up here in the OP to see if we can find a common culprit. I don't really suspect it's a ROM issue since there have been reports on multiple ROMs, but I don't want to rule that out...

Hi,
Yes,I have noticed this worrying trend...
One of the things to keep in mind when looking at responses to this kind of poll is to realize that we're looking at an adversely selected population of respondants.
Everyone who posts here about a failure is on XDA.
Everyone on XDA meddles with their phone.
So it's easy to conclude that meddling with your phone causes the phone to fail. (Or that ARHD causes the phone to fail because 90% of custom ROM users are running ARHD)
But that doesn't actually prove anything about the relationship between meddling with the phone and the phone failing because we're not including the 98% of Sensation users who run the stock ROM, don't even know you can replace it, and still have hardware failures.
In order for this poll to be worth any statstical value, we'd need to know what the general failure rate is among all Sensations, including the 98% that aren't rooted, s-offed, or anything else of that nature. (And I'd be willing to bet that someone here is good enough with Google to search out those stats. I guarentee HTC and the Carriers keep that information. It's just a matter of how public they make it.)
If the failure rate among people who flash custom ROMs, kernels, radios, etc is significantly higher than among the general population, then we can conclude that we're doing something risky.
If the failure rate on rooted phones is similar to the failure rate of the total population, then flash whatever you like with joy in your heart. You phone might die on you, but it would have died anyway. You're not the problem.
I would expect the rate of reported failures to be slightly higher on XDA than among the general population even if it's a general hardware fault. That's just because we're more likely to talk about a failed device than the average consumer who has a higher chance of just buying a new one and never talking about it.
Just looking to see if there's common ground between them...
Yes it would help to just narrow it down and try and deal with it unless we want the problem to spread. And now saying that I'm going off arhd to virtuous inquisition after reading previous posts

Here is another thread from last week, I think he was running Virtuous before it died on him, but not 100% sure.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1624293
I agree with the failure rate statement, just seems like the folks posting these having been flashing for a while and seems a bit different than the "HELP, I JUST BRICKED MY PHONE" type of thread
Yes..I am not sure if this issue is just a hardware problem and it just happens it died...or if it's related to what we're flashing and modding. And yes...I had flashed ROM a few times before...including insertcoin GB, and ICS...and everything was working....
After I installed ARHD..it seemed fine too...it was running....until I made a phone call.. then it died. So was it just coincidence that it happened after I installed that ROM (include 4ext recovery, radio recommended for t-mobile)...or it's something related to the files we're flashing. I don't think it was from flashing incorrectly since everythig was running for a bit.
If it's just a hardware pb with HTC...then surely there's nothing we can do....but if something is up with the files we're flashing that's killing the phone...as there seem to be much more of these occurences lately with the new ICS roms....then maybe something is up and hopefully someone smart can pinpoint the pb.
Do any of the Devs know this is happening?
Radio recommended for T-Mobile USA in ARHD... I know there was something posted that was supposed to help T-Mobile USA phones be a bit faster in ARHD, is that what you flashed?
Just found this in ARHD:
HTC Sensation 4G (U.S. T-Mobile PG5810000 | T-MOB010) users can flash this for better signal and data speeds!
Wondering if this could cause the problem?

Hi - I'm just wondering if there is something up with that particular update that is sometimes wreaking havoc with ICS roms for T-mobile USA users.
The reason I pointed it out is because its not a necessary update to install an ICS rom on the Sensation. We just need the latest firmware package and the Rom.
AFAIK, that update is only supposed to enable faster data in the U.S. Probably everyone else in the world outside of the USA, installing ARHD, skips over that update.
I guess it would help to know if the same type of failures are happening to people outside the U.S and who never installed that update.
I know the failure is not limited to just ARHD. So its possible though at one point someone went to the ARHD thread and installed that radio update with ARHD Rom, then jumped ship to say Virtuous and then had a phone failure, because that update is not part of the Rom itself.
This is just speculation - but trying to rule out possibilities.
Hmm..possibly...but I did read mail from someone that's not in U.S. who had dead phone similar to mine....so unless they installed that radio file...it should be ok?

That is not a radio. It is rcdata for the radio and the build.prop needs to edited to match. I don't know what the end result of a long term mismatch would be (I suspect nothing bad), but I have run both dish 2 and dish 3 settings with no long term issues on either...

I know you are one of the affected users. Please do me a favor and post the info specifically requested in the OP... I'm specifically interested in what kernels, and cpu settings the affected users were using!
i flashed that thing too when i was running a different rom then coindroid.. luckily im not one of the affected users...YET lol
This isn't looking so good... I hope the devs will figure this out before this thing catches on like wildfire... eek
I was about to get the Sensation...It seems i will have to think again!
I had installed AOKP and when I format data and sd card to factory reset my phone won't turn on anymore...I have warranty and service changed my motherboard...now I can not unlock bootloader anymore...
I should close this thread since it seems nobody can read the OP and follow directions...
I just think they're all dying now because it's been approx a year that the phone is out now? Maybe time is the killer! Afterall, I wouldn't think that the majority of users baby their phone... I've seen some people abuse the living crap out of their poor phone! Dents, scratches, marks everywhere. I'm not too surprised seeing this kind of issue after a year or so. Mine is slowly causing problems too (only prob at the moment is dust under screen and I don't like the microphone either...) and I baby this thing.
Man the same **** used to happen with the G2 and the myTouch4G, the emmc chip in the phone would just randomly give out after about 1 year. ****ing HTC phones, man.
i as using insert coin sense4 rom when mines stop turning on.........all i get is on and off vibrates

This almost sounds like a hardware limitation of the G3's antenna design compared to the Galaxy S5 design.
Not all phones are going to have the exact same reception capabilities. Unfortunately, this cannot be resolved through a software update.
You can compare the two by looking at the dB level on both phones side by side. Do NOT use "bar" indicator levels to compare signal levels.

Reception Problems
I bought my g3 off an ebay seller about 4-5 months ago. its my first android phone. ive owned ios and windows devices prior to this. it came rooted which kind of spooked me cause it was listed as new other (out of box and original package but otherwise new). it was working great for the most part until i started realizing i wasnt getting half of my calls and couldnt make calls half the time. i can use data and text with pretty much 1 bar or more on lte. making and receiving calls is damn near impossible unless i have 3 bars or more on lte to start then atleast 2 bars when it switches to 4g. I really really like the phone and would hate to get rid of it so soon. im half decent with computers and such so i decided to try and troubleshoot this problem. it could be hardware related but i honestly feel like its software related. maybe there was a crucial ota update it missed due to being rooted? i updated to stock lollipop from stock kitkat to start and updated the modem to the d850 20f version i believe it was, no improvement that i noticed. i kept doing research and found another modem update 20q i think it was and that seemed to improve the reception problems a little bit. i was now getting a little bit of service in areas that i was getting no service prior to this. i have since removed root and took the ota update that was available, no luck. now before going any further with the ota updates im going to reroot (hopefully i didnt lock the bootloader with the last ota) i forgot that some of those otas will do that. im going to try changing the build prop from 9 to 12 and see what that does. theres also a custom rom i came across called spectrum thats geared towards better reception that im going to try. if anyone can give any further advice or ideas please do. im ready to throw the thing out of my car window sometimes lol.
the 30 dollar windows phone that this replaced has better call performance than this g3.
