Hey all,
I'm working on a feature-packed, sexy new Android premium alarm app which is now nearing completion. I've got a very quick question for anyone who's ever looked for a replacement app for the built-in clock/alarm.
I'll give a free copy of the app out to the first 20 posters in this thread.
What single feature or frustration with the built-in alarm clock on your phone made you look for an alternative?
Thanks!
Mark.
Natural wake up..
Meaning that it starts to wake you up a little by little

The ui

"Dismiss" being too easy to hit. When it first goes off, I want to snooze a couple times. I hate having to actually wake up and focus my eyes to make sure I'm hitting snooze instead of dismiss, which would be catastrophic.
If there were an option to make the whole screen snooze-only and have the power button be dismiss...or snooze with the first tap and dismiss with the second (or something like that), I would be SOLD.
UI and the snooze button,
Would love to try your app. I am currently using alarm clock extreme. The only thing I don't like about it is the ui.

Big snooze button, small dismiss button.
Option to change the snooze time.
Nice wake-up sounds.
UI, and lack of options
A ui that allows alteration of the screen saver

I have used various ones, alarms extreme to alarm plus.
But the one feature that is missing is not only using ringtone that gets louder but also use a light from front screen that gets brighter, suppose it is like natural light well that's what I want. B-)

i need math calculations to turn the alarm off
Lack of options
Sure I try it

+1 for math calculations! It's a great way to wake up the mind!
And regarding UI, something ICSesque would be nice!

Only with snooze button!! I tend to dismiss in sleep...

The UI and would like the alarm to get louder and louder (natural wakeup?).
The stock one had a dumb thing, if I had my mobile in silence mode sometimes I didnt hear the alarm, im 100% sure I didnt sleep through it haha and I realy like a option to set music from your playlist as alarm ringtone

3x^2-2√(3)xy+y^2+2x+2√(3)y=0
It's sure to get your mind woken up and late to work.
+1 for natural wake up, and ability in calendar disable/enable alarms
Ability to wake to music of your choice.
Very nice UI & ofcourse many many options

Is there any app, thats like the apple alarm clock that can kill tasks after a certain time or stop music? Reason im asking is because I like to listen to music before going to sleep and want it to shut off automatically. Or maybe is there an app that turns off your phone after a timer ends?
Thanks in Advance

Tasker can do what you want. But may be too bulky for your need.
Out of interest (might be upgrading to NS end of the month) as there aren't any notification lights how difficult (or even possible) would it be to utilise the home, menu, search etc lights to act as notification lights, so that say a text message came while on silent on your desk it could flash them in a KITT type sequence?

I believe this has been discussed before and the answer, if I remember correctly, was that using the capacitive buttons would be either extremely difficult or completely impossible. I could be wrong, but that is what i remember.
The feature you are referring to is called backlight notifications, or BLN for short. There is an app on the market for it. However, to use that feature, you have to have a kernel that supports BLN. As far as I know, there are currently no kernels for the nexus s which has it. Devices that I am aware of that has supported kernels are the Samsung Captivate as well as the Vibrant. Your only other solution is an app on the market called NoLED, which displays notification icons on your screen.

NoLED works pretty well. There are things about it I'd change a little. Icons for one. I'd definitely change the text icon to something that doesn't look like email icon... Color swatches instead of color sliders for those of us that aren't good with choosing crayons.

So I take it it would be a bit of a nightmare implementing this into custom kernels?
It probably is, but its not impossible. The development section for the nexus is still new and will grow. So who knows.

IS there any app or a mod that will allow me to get a none intrusive pop up when I get a message or something? Kinda like how it in iOS 5?
I have having to stop my game, and go into the menu only to see I have a message from someone I wouldn't of bothered checking in the first place?
Usually I am playing a game, and my phone vibrates but without a way of knowing if its worth my time checking or not, I have to press the menu key, and then reload the game. In the case of Order & Chaos, having to resign into the account is a pain.

Miui roms have that type of messaging notifications. Its an awesome feature of miui.

Any alternative for us Sense users? I love Sense, so I don't see myself switching to AOSP ROMs. Just my personal preference.

You might wanna check out Popup Notifier Lite and Popup Notifier Pro in market. Let's you decide what popup notifications you get (sms, email, gmail, calendar, missed calls) works extremely well. Even the Lite version does the job nicely
I use handcent for that exact reason... You can even allow the popup to overlay your lockscreen. This allows quick responses without unlocking the phone.

Isn't the iOS 5 notification style the way Android has been doing it for years?
if I'm playing a game, I drop down the notification bar and see a portion of the message and from who it was... if I'm not bothered, I just flip the notification bar back up and continue gaming.. I never leave the app that I'm in.. in case of full screen games putting them no pause or pressing the menu key will show the notification bar if they're coded correctly.
the last thing I want is a popup appearing in the middle of the screen when I'm gaming (or whatever I'm doing on the phone actually), just my 2 cts.

Extractly.
Well I play Order and Chaos, and for some reason whenever I press the menu key, check the message app, upon loading O&C back, it freezes, and I have to manually remove the task,
This is true, but when we get a notification, it doesn't have a pop up like iOS 5. In the sense that, playing O&C it just plays the ringtone, and sometimes not even that. I have to go check the notification light.
I don't play, so the pop up doesn't bother me at all

alarmdroid (free & paid) on the market has never failed me & it's as fancy as you want to make it.
Alarm clock plus is very good. It has an option that forces you to do some math (basic-hard) in order to dismiss/snooze. Nothing wakes you up in the morning like arithmetic with 5 3 digit numbers.

I use Alarm Clock Xtreme, it's the same concept with math problems, captchas, etc. Good customization, free & paid in the Play Store.
Alarm clock plus is a nice app.. i am using it..
I think this is exactly what you are looking for, Best Alarm. Does exactly what it is supposed to do + it's free.

Sorry to bump this up. I have a rooted nexus 7, 4.2.1 , was wondering if there's a alarm app or a way to get my tablet to boot up from being turnt off to sound a alarm.
Thanks in advanced
Shaun
Let me know if it works!
You should see the ticker call screen when you are in any app, and you should see the default "full screen" screen when within the launcher itself...

Works just like it should! Even imported my home screen backup. Did have to un install the pro key and notification plug in and reinstall from the market, but they work fine. Thanks for this!

Hmm alright. o: Just wondering. Do you think you could show us how it's done or is it too complicated? Understandable if it is!
Also they've released a swiftkey flow beta. you should check it out!
One would need to learn javascript to understand actions in smali

Wow! SwiftKey Flow is pretty sweet! Works great, especially for someone like me that can't type to save my life! Kinda memory heavy, but doesn't seem to slow the phone down to much. I do think I'll be using this one! Lol! Thanks!

XjokiX7: Lol, it took me a long time to figure out smali, since I didn't want to learn Java first haha... I've said this before though, a good place to start would be looking at, say, the ticker, in action, and then look at the smali files for it... That way, you get a good picture of what smali code does what! Of course, it doesn't help when there's a lot of files for the ticker in services, but you can combat that with common sense and some detective skills
ciscogee: I know this is probably late, but how was moving!
Oh, and to both roaddog665 and XjokiX7, i freaking love Swiftkey Flow, haha I enjoy the "just keep going" feature, with not having to lift your finger up between words it's crazzyyyy!
Oh Oh, I added in a custom section for the Ticker within TSMParts for all the different settings I'm creating... Some option include turning on/off and customizing the Quick Launch screen, changing the sleep text, and what I am working on now is having options to remove/hide the weather icon/history button It's not ready to be released though, i'm just keeping you posted

And, um, where did you find a "just keep going" feature? I missed that one!
Sent from my SCH-I400 using xda app-developers app
bahaha, mayybbeee
and you can do it by swiping your word, then DON'T take your finger off of the keyboard and swipe to the space bar... Then, still without lifting a finger, go back up and swipe your next word... It takes some getting used to, but it seems like it's going to be a huge time saver
Haha!! That's good. This phone just keeps getting better and better.
Yeah, that will take some getting used to... But this keyboard is amazing! I've already "flowed" over 100 meters just playing around with it! Lmao!
