I want to buy an Android phone and my max budget is $550(30,000 INR). In this range I have considered the Sony Xperia S to be the best followed by Htc One S.
Am I correct, or is there any other phone I should buy?
Thanks.
Galaxy Note.

The HTC Rezound is a very solid phone if your on Verizon.
Defo Galaxy Note
I would say you should get the Galaxy Note. The screen is jaw dropping. I would wait until the major bug with the ICS update has been resolved tho.
Yeah the Note is awesome. But the reason I don't want to buy it is because the screen is too big in my opinion. I don't want a phone bigger than 4.3" screen.
The big 5.3" screen is awesome I must say but it doesn't make it a cell phone, somewhere between a phone and a tablet. And I would find it really difficult to carry it around.
The Htc One S is also good. But specs wise the Xperia S gives much more than the One S. That's why I chose the Xperia S. Any other thoughts?
HTC Sensation XE, better than the SXS I believe.

Did you thought about HTC ONE X, GALAXY NEXUS, in my opinion, they're great devices, superfast, excellent and HAVE big screens, THEY ALSO COME with stock ICS.

The problem is that I live in India. And my budget is 30,000 INR(approx 550 USD) and the Htc One X is around 37,000 INR which is out of my budget. And the Galaxy Nexus didn't launch in India.
But what do you guys think about the SXS? Is there something bad about it cause no one is even mentioning to buy it. Is it worth the price?
HTC one X
I've tested One S, One X, S3 and Xperia S...
Actually I prefer the One X...it's really nice!

Is One S better than Xperia S?
in case of the speed: definitely !
the screen resolution on the XS is really nice.
the only two things i disliked on the one s were the pentile matrix (but of course you have to look really close to the phone) und the free storage of 10gb - for me thats not enough

The One S has Snapdragon S4 processor rather than the S3 of Xperia S. That's the main reason why the One S is faster I guess and the main reason I was opting for it before.
But later I heard the news that in India the One S is going to launch with an S3 processor with overclocked 1.7ghz!! (Source) But still its not an S4!
Really a shameful decision by Htc
The processor was the only place where it had outranked SXS, and now its not even that. That's why I am thinking of buying SXS rather.

My opinion was to get the Sensation instead.
The sensation has a bigger screen, but manageable. People will tell you the bravia display is brilliant but there's a price, that screen is a battery guzzler. And Sony don't give much battery.
The Sony has fixed memory.
HTC are built solid. You'll have that phone forever.
Battery pull. I do it all the time when I mess up. You can't do that on a SXS.

Are you talking about just the Sensation or the Sensation XE/XL? And don't you think these devices are old now? I mean in some time they will become completely out dated.
And for the SXS besides the battery life and the yellow tint problem(which sony replaces for free) are there any other serious issues?
I would pre order the Samsung Galaxy III
I'd get galaxy note , International unlocked version as onsale on ebay for 459 USD over aweek ago. I would wait and catch the SALES.

I was talking about the XE. It is a well clocked dual core phone, and was built as a flagship device. The XL has only cosmetic updates but if they matter to you, you can consider it.
These phones they'd like to make you think they're outdated, but they're not. HTC gave the XE ics,and $150 earbuds. I'm not an audiophile so I don't care if there's better buds in that price range coz again, they came free. Big discount. It has Sense 3.6 which is Stable(4.0 was something new and has issues) so only the one update when you open the box and your phone will be perfectly userble. Sony take forever to update, and sometimes not at all.(PLAY anyone?) And their phones don't stay flagship too long(arc-arc s-xperia s gap) and the original arc was abandoned to 2011 waiting list. Sense > Timescape.
I like using my phone abit before resorting to xda.So if I we're to suggest phones
1. Galaxy S2
2.HTC sensation XE
3.Galaxy Note
4.Sony Xperia S
5.Droid RAZR MAXX.

Hi Sensation users...
I've done a search and haven't found an answer to this question.
Would it be worth it to "upgrade" from a Sensation to the One S? I know the one s is faster with the new chip but how much better overall could it be?
Also with the screen being Pentile? I've read some people say its ok but others not so. Also i haven't been able to find a comparison of the One S to the Sensation screen?
Any thoughts?
Cheers
The OneS is a decent phone, it features Sense4.
IMO its market similar to the NexusS was, in that its the flagship carrier of something new. NexusS has ICS 4.0.3. Its got basically everything that trumps all other phones. 1080pHD Video, Beats (which some might consider bad but its louder than most AOSP), quad core i beleive?
It certainly is a "all rounder" phone. As my contract with Optus is expiring too (aus) im probably going to go for it. My android enthusiast friend enjoys it very much so.
I am definitely NOT going to upgrade to the one S. In my mind it's only an incremental upgrade from the sensation in most ways, and in some it's a step backward. It's a great phone if you want something like an Iphone, but I just can't see getting a phone with only 16 gb's of storage and no removable battery. PLUS the screen isn't any different, same size AND resolution.
Don't get me wrong, the OneS is a good phone but if you've already got a sensation IMO it's not worth the upgrade. And to answer d2 above, it's only a dual core, not quad.

Haaaa, my OneS friend is a Liar! We have benchmark competitions with our androids for no reason, and he claimed that his "cpu cores" made the difference.
I agree with the notion that its an incremental upgrade. If you are buying JUST for sense4, you can have a ported rom version which works (almost) just as good on your sensation.
thanks for replies... what about the screen? do you think the pentile is that much worse than the S-LCD?
I'm not too concerned about the storage as i currently have 8gb which i don't even use up. But not being able to remove the battery is a little bit of a concern as i want to root etc... and concerned if something goes wrong how do i force a shutdown like taking out the battery?
Id wait it out another year the sensation still rocks especially with CM9 or ASAP, just think of what the next batch of phones will have instore, also heard battery life sucks on the ONE as well :-/
The CPU-Upgrade is quite noticeable. It may "just" be a dual core, but it is almost on par with the quad core of the one x. Due to the lower resolution faster in those testing with the native resolution of the device.
Screenwise... Can't say. Looked not much different than the one in the sensation. But they closed the gap between screen and digitizer, so the viewing angles are better.
Overall great phone. But I would not upgrade, since my sensation fulfills the demands I have for a smartphone.

personally my size limit is 4.3" that's why i wouldn't go to the One X. From the leaks i believe the SG3 will be 4.6 or 4.7? like the galaxy nexus? so it automatically rules it out for me.
my biggest concern in the battery life and screen on the one s. but all the reviews have said its super fast...
hmmm
Plus when you go to a "PENTILE" display from Sensation display you will see pixels. its ugly. Once you see it you cant unsee it. Its like the Droid Razr screen. Awful. origianl super amoleds suck really bad. You either need to go with super lcd 2 or Super Amoled Plus HD(hopefully galaxy III)
If I were you I would not, camera and speed is already decent on the sensation. SAMOLED is better but not enough to justify an upgrade. It does have sense 4 and ICS but you may as well wait until the next HTC flagship device to come out.
That being said I am getting the HTC One S because I'm coming over from iPhone and Sense 4 + ICS is a great way for me to get started.
I just got the T-mobile US Sensation but the One S will be out within my 30-day exchange window. I got the Sensation for free on contract. If the One S is ~$100-125 on sale anywhere, I might trade up. I can't really justify an additional $200+ for it...
Yeah I just got a sensation at a pretty good price outright new so pretty happy about that.
My contract has expired so I was thinking about getting the One S on a new contract. I could sell either one if i wasn't happy with the One S.
Thats the only reason I haven't put OrDroid on it yet although i have been using CM7 and CM9 and am very happy with them too!
I've found in stock the sensation is a little slow and i've been getting FC more times than i would like so far and its all stock.

did you guys get the sensation for free through t-mobile loyalty? I'm about to upgrade in a a few months. I'm thinking of getting the Sensation or the One S depending on the price. If they offer the Sensation for free and the One S for $150, I'll probably go for the Sensation. The main advantages of the Sensation that appeal to me are the removable battery, expansion, wifi hotspot, and potentially price. I don't see why people would upgrade to a One S if they just got the Sensation since they wouldn't be fully eligible to upgrade anyway so it wouldn't be worth it...unless they are buying it unlocked.

I got it free from Costco. Both T-mobile and Costco have the HTC Amaze for free now too. Kind of like an upgraded Sensation, but a bit bulkier. Development for it is picking up, but at the price of free it is also a great alternative to the One S.

Nah mate i'm in australia and someone got one as a gift and posted it up for cheap so i snapped it up
Haven' done anything to it yet but scouring around the dev forums to see which one i like. I am wanting to go with One S software like the OrDroid as it seems to be getting more stable. only a few niggling issues left and the fact that you can run the Sensation at 1.5Ghz is a bonus oh and the removable battery etc...
Definitely not
Can't replace the battery, no SD card extension and soon we will have a fully working sense 4.0 for the sensation which is already OC to 1.5 and up.
I'd upgrade to the One X at least it has a serious hardware upgrade.
I'll probably "upgrade" to a One S. I am really liking how thin it is and I do miss having an AMOLED display. But I'll actually decide once I get to feel and use one in my hands.
I was taking a close look at the One S specs today. It really doesn't look like much an upgrade over the Sensation at all. Same chipset family - 28nm manufacturing instead of 45nm, so it will allow a slightly higher clock speed. Benchmarks don't put it any faster out of the box the what we are getting already.
The only real difference is the dedicated imaging chip. Other than that, it is pretty much just a Sensation that ships with ICS & Sense 4.0. - one that you can't even upgrade storage or battery. Those 2 things are huge to me and the primary reason I stay away from Apple products.
It's marginal upgrade at best. Really quite disappointing.

None, go with the One S. HTC has the best UI and the One S has basically the same hardware as the Galaxy Nexus, plus it has a better sized screen.

Galaxy nexus for me. I like the fact that you can have the updates before everyone else because it's a google phone

Haha, yeah sure. My nexus s was on 4.0.3, while galaxy nexus was on 4.0.1... I would advice you the one s!
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk 2
the galaxy nexus is $400 from google unlocked which is only $150 more than the htc one s
so you get to stay off contract and cancel whenever you like.
However the htc one s has a much better camera, not only MP but also because htc added some tweaks and stuff
The one s also has sense 4 which is good if you're a fan of UIs.
The nexus is a google device which means it should get updates quicker than most phones unless you root and flash a custom rom
The htc one s also has a better feel because it's not as plastic-y AND COMES WITH WARRENTY FROM TMOBILE (which is very easy to claim)
EDIT: nexus has a better screen but one s has beats audio
nexus has nfc while the one s doesnt
if you like to mess with phones, i recommend the one s because of the easy warranty exchange with tmobile

Ons S is the best! but poor batteries
according to reviews in my country, one s has very good camera (high quality foto). Very hard choise You wanna have support from google, take nexus.
i would prefer one s
The CPU in the one S is much much faster then the one in the galaxy nexus. The 2 Krait cores perform as fast as or faster then the 4 tegra cores of the tegra 3. The Adreno 225 is also a powerful GPU.
Galaxy NEXUS FTW!!!!
Get the nexus
Here's why
1.The battery
2.NFC
3.NO UI
4.THAT GODDANG AMOLED
5.Updates and ROMS

In terms of physical looks, the ONE S looks better to me.
I guess you have to try it out, maybe read reviews too.
OS-wise, I suppose the Nexus would basically work like maybe a Galaxy S2 with CM9, the stock ICS experience.
Then on the ONE S theres Sense 4.
Theres the feel of the phone, is it comfortable to hold, the weight.
Does it feel good in your pocket.
Or you are the tweaker and have the knowledge to bend any of the phones, within its limits, to your liking.
For ONE S there should be less custom stuff to play with as its new.
And if you are an accessory fan, consider if the phone will be popular or not.
When I got my HTC Desire, no shops seem to be selling any case for the phone locally.
Luckily theres a free case from the telco but its 'barely there', in the end got one from eBay.
If you're ok with online shopping then its fine, I suppose.
It doesnt matter that HTC is the best or Galaxy Nexus is designed by Google its all about the Hardware and Software combination of the phone its advantages and disadvantages its performance and other things needs to be watched. So my choice is Galaxy Nexus.
Prefer one s. seremic body and UI will give you a perfect experience. Basically nexus is great. You will get the latest update and great camera shutter speed etc. But android growing fast. Time to feel new thing..
hello, all
i need a good android smartphone (not to big) with nice camera. This will be my first smartphone, first i was thinking about HTC ONE S, but the mess with processors (s4 changed to s3) made me not to buy it event it was a perfect pretendend - very good camera, not big, powerful. Now i'm thinking about GALAXY S3 it has best specs so far, but I don't know if i will feel comfortable with the size of that phone, because my hands are not big.. As i read some forums about SG3 some people said that he is doesn't worth that money.. what do you think guys ? Is it worth to buy SG3 or better to wait for some new phones appear ?
I would say go for the HTC One X, was worried that the S3 would best it when it was released, I've used both for decent periods of time and i feel the X has a much better user experience

If you are OK with bad camera and OK with last year spec, highly recommend GNex. Best phone IMO, especially with Jelly Bean

Why do you want a high-end device for your first smartphone? Then there's no way to improve on it. I would recommend to buy something more moderate. Would also be less expensive in case you brick it. Quadcores don't really do anything for you, they don't really run android any faster in my experience.
I can tell you that it is not very enjoyable to have a larger screen than you prefer. It's a good idea to try a few sizes to narrow down what size fits your taste.
go for a xperia s.cool design and awsm camera.
Sgs3 hands down, so many more pros than cons compared to the HTC one series phones.

Best HTC phone you can find is the htc one x, it depends on your budget. The sensation is most likely not going to get any more official support but here on xda that doesn't matter. Other than that if you want a good phone for a good price then yeah the sensation isn't that bad. If I were you I would get the galaxy nexus.
Well in that case, I narrowed it down to the HTC one x, the galaxy nexus or the galaxy s2 (I would get the s3 but its out of my price range)
Sent from deep space
i respectfully disagree..
if we compare what we can do with them;
galaxy nexus is the best when it comes to the updates. and it is also the referance device so you don't have to worry if any ap will work on it or not.
but today i went to an electronic market shop and checked every top android phone and decided that i did not want to go for a amoled screen.. even though they give best colors even the newest galaxy s3 phones had screen burns and the phones were only there 1 month max.. normally i change phones in 3-4 months but this time i made a promise and i have to keep my new phone at least 1-1.5 year so amoled screen gives me the best blacks but every day i have to watch its leds degrade.. on the other hand sensations mid-quality black-good brightness screen will remain the same even after a few good years..
on the memory side, nexus gives us USB OTG, no way to do this with htc because they changed the frameworks but there is a memory card slot which is more useful until 64 Gb.. if you are willing to carry a external hdd and a cable with you and willing to sacrifise some battery juice then the nexus is good for you..
on the ram side; since the sense UI can remove itself from the background when it is not necessary and the screen is not 720p 768Mb is quite enough and not falling so short compared to nexus' 1 gb ram. (not so sure about this but months i used sensation XE and never got out of ram or had any problems)
there is a FM radio on sensation
sound quality is better on sensation (XE)
camera sensor is better on sensation (but need some software touch to unlock its full potential)
and the GPU is also better and more suitable for OCing if you are into OCing.. adreno GPUs are good at giving effects and fall behind the mali-400 when it comes to filling textures.. but at this resulotion, it is more than enough to play any game.. and you can gain %25+ with OC, this is about %10-15 on the nexus.. i was having 52-53 FPS on nena mark2 while the one x had 55..
and you can also buy a white or beats audio housing and change the way it looks whenever you want..
so, according to my fully subjective comparison is more fun to buy sensation (XE) than nexus..

Hello everyone, I would like to ask you a couple of questions. HTC ONE S is a beautiful phone, fast, the best to the touch and with a processor speed but ... But in the period where they are baked increasingly cheap quad core and even dual core as the new pro s4 are faster. In addition there is the problem that is not particularly supported by Community, stay with One S?

If you want a dull vanilla android then yes ! But I would stay with one s or maybe shift to one x , one x+ or Samsung galaxy s3 ,try using a aokp/aosp Rom that's how a nexus device is,, very plain !! , if you got money to spent go buy some other quad cores like one x and sgs3 , people go with HTC and Samsung coz of their innovative ui ( sense for HTC and touchwiz for Samsung) . Android has only be rocking because of Samsung HTC and Sony , nexus devices are cheaper but not that enjoyable ,

I would say opposite of what this guy says. Samsung and HTC throw crappy interfaces over stock android making it slower and only causing you to not get the updated operating system timely on your phone. Vanilla android is best and I'm planning to buy nexus 4 as soon as it's out. One decent reason to stick with one s is that you don't have money to throw around buying the latest and greatest phone.

I find support pretty decent depending on what you're looking for. There's a good variety of different ROMs available to suit your tastes. Even though there's faster phones available now, it really depends on what you need to make your phone work for you. If you don't notice any issues with lag, performance is good, and battery life is good then I think things should be ok?

I spent $285 on this phone I think I got a solid deal. Definitely don't get an iphone anywhere near retail value. If I had to get a phone right now I would buy the Nexus 4.
Well as it stands right now the nexus 4 is gonna be strictly worst than our phone cuz LG made it. Anyone one else confused on that?
I say go for a onex+ or a s3. imma skip out on this round of smartphones though cuz our one s is one of the top phones out. Everytime i pull it out ppl are like OMG what phone is that. pretty much once the wow factor is gone its time for an upgrade lol
I mainly need a really powerful camera to replace compact digital camera for daily use, I don't want to take two devices go out. So, I will stay with One S and not to go with N4 like everyone else here.
I will probably buy a new phone later when HTC or Sony introduces their new camera sensor. HTC is going to roll out 5" 1080 J Butterfly with 8M cam in Dec on Japan, wanna see if the sensor get improved and I might get one.

LG is guilty of terrible software, but with the Nexus 4 that's not an issue. The hardware of the Nexus 4 is patchwork. On one hand you have the quad core S4 pro, on the other you're stuck with only 12gb of accessible space. On one hand you have an amazing screen, on the other the battery life sucks and can't be upgraded. You have to decide what you can tolerate to decide if a Nexus is for you. I love AOSP, but HATE limited storage. I love the resolution, but HATE the battery life. So I won't be getting a Nexus 4.

I may get the nexus 4 it will have a lot of devs working on it and I could just flash a sense rom onto the phone because I like sense. And I really want nfc
It's only 280 pound for 16gb and it beats the GS3 in specs

I don't like the thing that they're delaying new updates too much and plus it's not that well made except the ceramic body ofc
