After using iOS's beta gestures and QNX/WebOS's card switching.. I'm of the opinion that Honeycomb badly needs a way to quickly switch between apps, vs tapping, scrolling and tapping.
Are there any mods/launchers/whatever that enables a quick way to jump between apps?
Thanks.
Pressing the recent apps button is one... but I'm guessing your looking for something else. ;-)
Here's some options:
"Power Strip: Multitasking Dock" (app in market that I had on my phone a while back)
SwipePad seems to be more what you're looking for though. It's in the market: https://market.android.com/details?id=mobi.conduction.swipepad.android&feature=search_result
Edit: I digress, SwipePad does not seem to support the Transformer for some reason.
Try Wave Launcher... it works for the TF, but is a paid app unlike SwipePad.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mobilemerit.wavelauncher&feature=related_apps
Thanks guys, I'll check them out when I get home.
To help clarify, I'm looking for a way to switch between applications with gestures vs tapping the recent apps list (which, I find organizes apps oddly at times).
On iOS 5 (and in 4.3 beta) there are 4 finger swipes to switch between apps. I have this enabled on my jailbroken iPad and it works wonderfully well.
QNX you swipe from the bezel (can't really be pulled off on the TF, but its an example) to switch easily between apps.
WebOS you swipe up and switch apps.
Ideally, I'd love to see the iOS method as a possibility, it's incredibly quick and smooth. It's about as fast as alt+tab/cmd+tab program switching on desktops. The HC recent apps list is nice visually, but I don't feel like it's a very quick solution.
Anyways, don't take any of this as complaining, I'm just wondering what's out there, and thanks again for the suggestions, I'll check them out.
i was able to get swipepad working on my transformer. I pulled the apk from my phone and sideloaded it on my tablet. It's not optimized for Honeycomb so it doesn't use the entire screen but it worked well without any FCs. Even the Tasking and MorePad addons worked well. Addons available to purchase from market.

i know exactly what ur talking about and unfortunately, none of the apps mentioned do this. they are just like little shortcuts to the app switcher just wrapped around in different UIs. it wont do what u want it to do. im looking for a gesture app that overlays the whole screen and can use 5 fingers to swipe to another app or something of that sort. none of these apps do this.

Android ICS 4.0.4 / Android Open Kang Project Build 31
Issues:
Activity Not Responding / Blank Screen Issues - I'm not seeing this anymore I need confirmation that its gone to remove from list.
Possible/Rare Visual Distortions
Missing Official Team Kang LWP (Forgot to include in release)
Weather Settings in ROM Control FC's on first use (AOKP Bug)
Weather Auto Location Doesnt Work (AOKP Bug)
Spell Check/Autocorrect Issues (Minor)
Minimal GPS Issues (Minor)
Start-up Script init.d options don't apply/save and causes ROM Control to Freeze/Crash
I'm using Gerrit-style issue review meaning that if you're experiencing a new unlisted issue someone else needs to confirm that issue in order for it to be added to the list.

Release / Update News for 4.14.2012
For this update I've resynced for new commits from the AOKP repo. The new build doesn't seem to crash often like the first build. However AOKP doesn't seem to like live wallpapers. I've just noticed that if you select a live wallpaper it will freeze after a while then you try to change the wallpaper to anything else the background of the launcher will remain black. This can be fixed by restarting the phone. Or it could be something that needs more testing.
I've added in the official boot animation but it doesn't seem to fit the screen perfectly. There was a similar issue with the first MIUI build. I'm still testing to see how well GPS actually works.
So this update seems to be really fast. It doesn't seem to crash or slow down like the first build.
-See how different wallpapers behave.
-Check ROM Control options (I saw some issues with the Navigation Bar settings. I think its a Team Kang issue.)
-Stay clear of the Start-up Scripts options. It doesn't work for now.
Other than that the ROM should be much more stable and faster than the previous release. Try and give me as much feedback as possible.
Thanks
I only tried it out for a few minutes. There was no boot loop, and it seemed to run smoothly. Nice work.
Can someone put up screen shots and working and non working please?

Once I get to a desktop I'll upload some screenshots. Right now everything moves relatively smoothly but some bugs do exist. For example, spell check is not working right now and most words are considered mispelt. Also, the Play Store did not sync correctly and I had to download all apps manually rather than the automatic sync. Some usability bugs such as freezing screens do occur, but not enough to be a major nuisance. The special AOKP settings work fine. If you prefer the software buttons of the Galaxy Nexus they will work, although the action overflow button does not seem to show up in the bar and the physical menu button must be used. Backlighting on the keys works while the softkeys are enabled as well. I am yet to encounter any of the screen blowups Kemikal referred to in the OP. Benchmarks (for you benchmark nerds) will arrive with the screenshots.
Edit 1:Never mind about the later comments. Screenshots are attached.
Edit 2: Found the screen blowup in the battery portion of the settings. Music and mic are working.
Edit 3: Once the ROM seems to run for a couple hours without a boot or anything the system bogs down and system ui crashes occur at a relatively high frequency. Home screen redraws are more prevalent than Jocala's CM9 ROM.

I've noticed there is an issue with like a sleep of death where the screen stop working randomly except you can see what's on the screen during the CRT animation.
Gerrit style bug reporting. One person to report something another to review and confirm the issue. I didn't get much of a chance to test everything before I released it.
This is in Alpha stage so expect some bugs out of it. This is built from the same source as CM9 so in theory there should have been any other than a borked camera. Yet something must have messed up during the compile process and minor parts are broken. The touch drivers were half baked. I'm assuming from your reports that somethings also wrong with the dictionary files.
Some things haven't compiled properly and they cause issues.

Camera is bad from CM9 so its the same source so its broken here too. New thread so I haven't completed reviewing the bug list.
Also, The issue with your apps not auto-redownloading from the market is something I've seen on many different ROMs on many different devices. I have no idea what causes it. I believe its more of a universal issue for Google to address.
hmm this seems nice ill try it out
Thanks for working so hard for us in making this ROM. I think that if you can get everything working on this one, I might stray away from cm9. Big thank you to jocala as well.
Thus far, the main things that I have noticed issues with are as follows:
No notification for wifi networks,
Start up tweaks do not remain enabled,
Dictionary believes that no words except for a select few simple ones actually exist.
Automatic time zone thinks I am in the middle of the Pacific ocean instead of in Atlanta, GA.
There are some other assorted small things, but I'm more interested in helping you test out the major issues.
I have not yet tested the GPS. Work and sleep make spending the amount of time I want to on these things impossible. I hope that this info is helpful to you. And thanks again.

Yeah same here. First lock was set by GPS accurate to 20 meters. Second lock in different location was set by Network Triangulation, accurate to 40 meters. Maybe its just because I'm indoors. I'm expecting to release an update on Saturday. No word yet on what might be improved or fixed.

I had this same problem when flashing to a rom, and then going back to stock. I found this solution:
1) go to settings>applications>manage applications>all>google services framework>clear data also go to >all>market>clear cache and force close finally to all>market>clear cache and clear data then Reboot phone
2) Open and sign out of GTalk, then re-open and sign in.
3) Open Market and accept agreement. Let it load your apps. Close Market.
4) Go to market.android.com and sign in. Go to My Market Account>Settings tab>Edit>Nickname your phone and click Update.
5) try Installing application from market.android.com

very good, great options in rom control.
i did have a glitch, and since you asked.....
whilst connected to wifi, and using opera mobile, and, big buttons keyboard,
i attempted to type in the embedded google search box.
this proceeded to cause opera to freeze.
whether opera,or,big buttons was the cause i can't say,but the rom did not seem to like this combo.
LOL I never thought my moms phone would be getting ICS I'll flash it on her phone in a bit!
I just flashed to this rom to try it out, runs great and has very cool controls. But I still prefer CM9 AOKP feels like a overly customizable launcher but still nice!
I've got a Razr Maxx HD running rooted but stock JB 4.1.1. All I want to do is remove (hide, disable, etc) the Navigation Bar that takes up the bottom of the screen. I'm a Button Savior guy so I've got a way to navigate without wasting that screen real estate.
I tried adding the line qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 to the bottom of my build.prop file (that worked great on my Nexus 7, BTW). That removes the NavBar but the wallpaper only covers part of the recovered screen area (the rest is either black or some other screen "bleeds" through) and it generates system.ui errors constantly.
I've tried several apps from Google Market (can't stand the name Play Store) but they all hide the Notification Bar on the top, too, and I want/need to see that.
I downloaded and installed an APK that was supposed to address this (can't find the file or remember the name) but all it did was automate adding the extra line to build.prop, resulting in the same problems.
I don't want to flash a custom ROM because, despite brilliant work by amazing devs, some of the still-missing features (camera, tethering, etc) are ones I need to have.
I use and like Go Launcher EX but I'd use another launcher if any of them had the feature to hide the NavBar but evidently none of them do.
The one thing I keep reading is that, if I decompile my frameworks-res.apk file, I can change a series of values that will make the NavBar disappear. I've read the instructions over and over and I just don't have confidence that I won't screw something up while trying to do this.
Is there ANY relatively straight-forward tool or app or setting that I've missed to get rid of the NavBar?

Really? Interesting. Do you have a stock ROM rather than CM10 or ParanoidAndroid or something like that (many custom ROMs make it easier to do the modify build.prop method)? Are you on 4.1.1 rather than a newer version of JellyBean (4.2 it out in some places, I believe)? If the answers to both those questions is yes, what did you use to root? I'd love to solve the problem and I hope to avoid decompiling and recompiling.

I wonder about 4.1.1 vs 4.1.2. Is that an OTA update being pushed out over time or a function of the difference between the XT925 and the XT926 (Razr HD and Razr Maxx HD, as I understand it)?
Digesting all I can as quickly as I can about all this. XT925 is an International version and XT926 is a US version of the same phone? I still can't figure out why some Maxx HDs have 4.1.2 and some do not (having "only" 4.1.1 instead).

No, unfortunately I'm on 4.1.1 stock much like OP for the same reasons (tether/camera etc). It wouldn't be a problem if I was on alt roms since I have found apks that disable just the navbar and leave the notification shade. Problem is that installing them on stock rom will cause multiple UI error messages.

Solved.
Get JB 4.1.2 from Telstra, look in Android development and flash it via RSD Lite, must be rooted and have alternative input method I use gmd gestures; Now use the buil.prop mod (qemu.hw.mainkeys=1) and U will have the status bar but not the navbar and no fc.
I have some issues with menu action (auto hiddes and must retry), solved with cm 10 instead of Telstra ROM, little more batt consumption and no blutooth music at the moment.
UPDATE: No need to use another ROM, In Telstra ROM go to config in Your phone, developer options, and check "Disable HW overlays", Ready!
You can use other ROM (4.1.2+) if U want, I like Telstra Rom cause it have good battery and all features in your cell phone works.
Does "Telstra" refer to the Austrailian mobile provider? I see articles that say Telstra pushed out 4.1.2 in mid-December. Is that what you're referencing? From what I'm reading it's not a custom ROM, more an upgrade to the stock ROM, right? If so, that seems like the right direction to me. If 4.1.2 means the build.prop modification will work without FCs and ONLY hide the navbar then finding the best (most stable and reliable) way to upgrade to 4.1.2 seems like the right goal. Is there a preferred link to get the right file(s) to do this upgrade?

for the galaxy s2 there is a multi window mod. Maybe we coud install it also on our tab 7+. because it has the same exynos chip.
i could´t test this because for my wifi only tab 7+ is no jelly bean yet.
but if it does not fuction maybe a dev can port it also to the tab 7+.

Is there a lot of interest for this, or are there alternatives that people/Devs are preferring?
I like the Multiwindow function on my S3, and would really like to see it or something similar on a Galaxy 7" tablet. I want to use it to run a GPS routing App & a Music App at the same time, while running WaveControl in the background. It works great on the S3, but I feel that ~half the screen is too small to be used well for GPS. So, I have had a GT+ for a while, but sold it until I can find which of the two (GT+ or GT2) will get MultiWindow or similar.
I have seen the Overskreen, but that's Browser only. I've seen the floating Apps, but that seems to be specific Apps, and part of the main App gets covered up by the floater. So neither seems to be able to replace Multiwindow, unless there's a way to make any App a floating App.
Any thoughts/ideas?

All your options are really not going to happen, but one day, in the future, after we get full stable releases for more models of the 7+, someone will port over the multi-window stuff that is form the Note 2 / S4 that is in custom ROMs for the S3. Lets get stable stock ROMs for all the G+ models first
.Android currently is not built to handle floating window, its a real hack just to get a browser to float.

Alright, sounds good. I'm hoping that we do get multi-window when the stock ROMs are fully fleshed out. I was also trying to gauge what ROM developers were going for, whether Multi-Window or Floating Apps were more relevant to them. Supposedly there was one ROM that had Beta multi-window, but the developer seems to have dropped that in favor of the floating option. I just don't see it as a viable replacement, at least not yet.
Apart from my 7 plus tab I own a Samsung galaxy grand that has 1 gb of ram and a 1.2 ghz double core processor (like our 7 plus), and it has multi windows option out of the box (jb 4.1.2), which means that it's doable for our tab. It's a matter of editing the main flashbar.apk, and some framework files.
Easier said than done, yes, I know...:silly:
I just pulled the main flashbar apk and the multi windows related frameworks and permissions from my galaxy grand and pushed them into my tab (p6210 running pa 3.15).
I rebooted, the apk installed, and I saw on my task manager that it was on, good sign.
But (there is always a but) I had nothing to trigger it. On the galaxy grand there is a multi windows icon next to the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS etc icons on the status bar, but obviously no such icon on the tab.
To get one such icon one needs to edit some jars in the framework folder, and maybe the system ui apk as well. I could do it if I had plenty of time (because I'm still relatively new to those things) but unfortunately I don't have much time in the moment.
If anyone wants to do it just tell me and I'll upload the files here...

Thanks for trying! By the way, the ported multiview on my Sprint Galaxy SIII is activated by holding down the back button. Could you try that? I don't know if it will work since on the S3 it is basically a hardware button, but just in case.
I tried, without much hope because I'm on pa 3.15 and as you may know the multi windows app works only with the TW framework (pa doesn't use TW ui). And guess what, it didn't work. I tried as well to trigger the app with smart taskbar, multi windows manager and a couple of other apps but nope, no fun...
I had a closer look at my galaxy grand and in some drawable folders I found the multi windows icons and triggers. One would need to add these files to the G plus systemui.apk and framework.apk, and add/remove some lines to some jars and stuff.
It's doable and I probably could do it, but I won't, for the sole reason that I own a p6210 and that jb hasn't been released for that model yet, sorry...
If you know how to decompile/recompile then try this, it works on the S2 and it may work on the G plus:

I just wanted to let anybody who may not already be aware that i have managed to successfully get multi window working on both the P6200 & P6210. I will link to my original hread below for those of u who are interested....there are a few minor issues but otherwise the mod is fully functional on the Tab Plus

Its not a full rom just a flashable mod but u do have to be on a DEODEXED version...it is completely safe just makes it easier to change theme & mod but as always please read the instructions carefully and be sure to backup your device before flashing. Since I'm assuming u own a P6200 then u will need the original MC3 firmware as well as chrisrotolo's deodexed MC3 zip installed before u flash the multi window mod. Yes, tethering works & the phone function does too BUT u may have to download another dialer from the play store(i'm using ex dialer & contacts) if the samsung phone app wont open

I found this app yesterday, and I love it.
It is like pie controls for your unrooted Note 4.
One hand, one swipe access to recent tasks and people, favorite apps and toggles.
It works flawlessly and looks cool as well. Check it out. It's free.
Lazy swipe, ONE HAND and ONE SWIPE,do whatever you want!
Slide out the "Lazy Swipe" from your screen's left or right bottom corner in any situation, you could:
1. Find and open your most frequently used applications without any settings;
2. Find and open your newly installed or recently used application, no longer need to scrolling in your many application list;
3. Switch on and off the commonly used general settings, such as wifi, bluetooth, flashlight etc...
Since this is my first post, I can't post the link to the Play Store for it, or a review of it that led me to it in the first place, but it's "Lazy Swipe".
Loving it! Thanks!
Nice! Thanks for posting!

Super super slow app
I have tried it on z1 compact running cm12.
They changed the name to Omni Swipe. About to try it now.
EDIT: I'm loving this app. I don't even flip screens much anymore. Very easy to use. Thanks.
you know pie launcher can be ran on stock phones now too
so you dont need to be root just sayin
Has anyone using Omni Swipe been having any network issues when trying to download a theme through the app settings? Lately, every time I try to download my favorite theme, or search for a new one, it keeps telling me there's something wrong with my network when everything else is working fine. All I want to do is reapply the 'Hola Awakens' theme I have on my Tab 3, which is also having the same network issue using the same app, but I can't find the install location for Omni. If I could find it, I could probably just copy the theme there. Anyway, the rest of the app works fine, aside from that pesky network thing. Any thoughts?
