Sensation XE Soundquality - HTC Sensation

Hey everyone i was wondering, if the soundquality of the sensation XE really is that good. Hip hop, dubstep and other genres may profit from the beats bass boost, but do genres like rock, pop etc also sound good? I can't really believe that, if deep tones are boosted, that the high and middle ones still are as good, as before. Otherwise I would go for sensation.

lol, you should go for the xe. It's optional. You dont have to enable it all the time. If you think it sounds worse with beats on, than off, then just disable it.
Also, the price is all the same (at least in my country), so why not buy the xe. You'll get a good free dr dre headset with it as well.

I have all types of music on my xe and can't really fault the quality of sound. Beats and the buds themselves have had quiet a bit of stick on these forums but personally I'm more than happy......

SIGH. The beats audio crap is a gimmick. The headphones are crap and there is NOTHING special about the XE except red lights at the bottom. The beats audio is just software. You get it added in most sense roms. You can flash roms to turn it inti an xe.
In the UK on amazon the sensation is currently £299 and the sensation xe is £399 ( for dollars multiple by roughly 1.5) so not worth it.
The processors are the same as well, in the sensation the processors are UNDERCLOCKED to 1.2ghz. Their original speed was 1.5ghz and it is just crap marketing by HTC.
Rant over.

HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio announced

I just saw a tweet from Paul O'Brien about this...
http://android.modaco.com/topic/346319-htc-announces-the-htc-sensation-xe-with-beats-audio/
I currently have a Nexus S and was going to buy a Sensation today! I think I'll wait for this one now
It's also mentioned here: http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk/blogs...ash?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
"The HTC Sensation XE is the first handset to offer a Beats Audio experience - a combination of software & hardware that allows you to hear music the way the artist intended."
I'm wondering about the hardware changes. Do they mean new headphones?
If no other hardware is changed, I have a (wanabe) Sensation XE right now. LOL
EDIT: Software is almost here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253447
Hardware is the same, only 4gb internal ROM instead of 1.2gb. Ram, cpu, case, etc is the same. Cpu overclocked to 1.5Ghz. A one to one port should be perfectly possible I guess. Buy the XE case and larger battery and you have a Sensation XE . Adviceprice is 599euro.

The Sensation is UNDERCLOCKED to 1.2GHz, this new one is the same processor. Other than the Beats buds, red accents and a few other touches I don't see this as being a worthy upgrade
And when they say 'hardware' I'm going to assume the mean the buds and no actual phone changes
Are the Red highlights meant to be go faster stuff?
Here is the official HTC page for the device if anyone wants to see it.

Oh yes. Sorry, I got so excited about this news I didn't search before posting
it's a load of crap, I don't even use my sensation to listen to music as the battery life is shockingly bad as it is. So I for one am not bothered about the new phone, I already own some monster turbine headphones which are better than Beats anyway. This is just a money spinning idea by HTC
I don't care for the announcement of the new phone, but if this new battery is backwards compatible with the original Sensation, I'm all over that.
I have HTC Sensation SSE All the things that XE has apart from red buttons, plus its faster, has better battery life, highly customizable, and I didn't have to pay extra for it. WIN.

That is all.
Those beats headphones are terrible anyway, and I personally think the sound quality on the sensation is great anyway!

LOL so they realized that the EVO 3D actually was compatible with the Sensation and threw that in!
If you already own a Sensation, there's not much reason for this upgrade. BUT, if you were looking to buy one soon (like me), then the XE is a more attractive proposition!
I personally can't wait to get one *stares at Nexus S in disgust*

The battery life is bad?? Mine's pretty dang good. It IS inconsistent but 20+ hours with 3+ hours of actual "screen on" time + some voice calls is pretty good, imo anyway.
Understand that you have to do a little management. I use Greenpower and wifi when available as well as an Anker 1900 Mah (unsure how accurate the 1900 is but it increased my batt life by 3 hours on average). I also use nobars because signal at work is pretty horrid (I work in a jail, lots of concrete and steel).

It's basically Dr. Dre's idea of what EQ settings you should have when some Beats Audio high performance equipment is plugged in. Your friends phone will detect the Beats headphones (somehow) and Beats Audio will apply a certain EQ.
There are a few ports being tested which will work with any headphones, although it remains to be seen if this is actually a benefit or a marketing gimmick. Forcing an EQ designed for a specific set of headphones may not have a desirable effect when pluggin in some cheap £20 Sony's!

Yes it's not like beats audio means it has any special audio processing hardware. It is simply an EQ tailored to get the "best" sound out of a specific set of headphones. If you are not planning on using Beats headphones, then it is kinda redundant. I'm simply curious to see if this EQ is better than my custom one using PowerAmp.
I have yet to test it myself, but I would imagine that unless you are planning on splashing out £100+ on Beats headphones, you are best of sticking with using PowerAmp and it's awesome equaliser to tune the sound to best suit the headphones you already have. Much Cheaper! Since we are on the topic, I can highly recommend the a-Jays One. IMO you'll not get a better sound for £20! Plus the cable is truly tangle-free! I'd have been very happy with these had they cost me £60.
(Also wins the prize for the most over-packaged product I've ever bought. The case is good for keeping anything you want to survive the nuclear apocolypse.)

I am sorry but this is a scam.... I don't see no difference in sound... it's pure marketing if you have sound quality boost only by software, certain EQ setting,if you will, which works only in native Music Player for HTC WTF BTW????
I hate native music player... very limited (for example, NO FLAC support, CUE sheets ... and many more features)...
PowerAmp and/or PlayerPro, maybe both
Just wanna say one thing!
Dump box HTC headset, poor sound quality... buy something else...

Have bought recently Sennheiser CX300 and I must say that the sound quality improved very much

Ben, I got myself a pair of monster beats in-canal earphones recently and I have to tell you even standalone they are great. But with the beats mod they the sound is heavenly.
I'm opposed to marketing gimmicks by principle and was skeptical at first.
But after listening to a pair of these AND comparing them to a set of Bose headphones at the same mall I concluded these are much better for the kind of music I'm used to.
However we have to remember that audio perception is a subjective feeling and not everybody may have the same taste.

@BLD
Good to read a substantial review, with some actual detail, although still early and HTC could (or do I mean SHOULD) add additional hardware to later devices which could further improve the sound output from their devices, in fact to add weight to the Beats link-up it might be a good idea to do so, so as not to lose too much cred, no one feels like they're being taken for a fool.

"Beats" is a EQ software upgrade, as I understood, supported by native Music player... It is the same if you turn on an EQ function in your PlayerPro of PowerAmp... for me Beats has no purpose in my phone....
It's like.... "Heeey, it is the same phone with the same hardware and it has a autoEQ called Beats, and it is black'n'red in color, with cool headset.... please pay a fortune!!!" WTF!
UPDATE: (just read this review... kinda stepped on that one )
"The Beats Audio software isn't complete marketing vapor, but it's still inherently gimmicky and adds nothing in the XE's favor: you could achieve a better result on the original Sensation simply by downloading a third-party music player that lets you play with the EQ settings yourself. The only thing which might sway us to by the Sensation XE over its predecessor is the packaged YourBeats headphones, coupled with the red styling on the phone....."

[Q] HTC sensation xe is it worth to buy?

hi guys
I want to switch my Samsung Galaxy S to HTC Sensation because i want to have some experience with HTC sense.( i've never had htc before so sensation will be my first) Sound quality is very important to me( i am using my phone as an mp3 player) So far i've been using my sgs + voodo sound+ seenheiser cx 200 headphones. The sound quality was really good. i'm mainly listening to rock, metal and all that stuff maybe some pendulum or the prodigy from time to time. HTC sensation xe costs about 2199 PLN( i am form Poland) and this is really big amount of money. Standard Sensation cost 1630 PLN so as you can see the difference in price is big. i just wanna make sure that the ibeats form XE will suit me witch this type of music. So could anyone tell me about sound quality of ibeats and sensation in those genes of music? it will be better or worse than SGS +voodo sound? i really don't want to overpay about 500 PLN for ibeats if they won't be good for me. Or maybe should i buy standard sensation + maybe a seenhesiser CX 400 II precision? it will be about 300 PLN cheaper than XE what do you think about that?
I'm sorry for my English. i hope that i didn't make too many mistakes

One thing I do know however, is that Sennheiser CX400 IIs are amazing.
dont fall into the hype of the sensation xe and it including the ibeats. from what im hearing from many of the guys from here, there are plenty of better headphones to use like the one you own. i suggest you get the og one unless you want all the red accents
The ibeats are good but senheiser is waaay Better for sound quality. Also get a sensation, flash a custom ROM then flash a beats audio addon and you will have the beats audio sound profile

At the Carphone Warehouse they are offering amazing deals on the Sansation right now. It's worth a look, and as their phones are all unbranded you won't have to mess around with CID's when it comes to installing custom rom's or flashing back to the origional RRU's.
I have a standard Sensation on Orange (branded, early upgrade ) and I have installed the latest version of Android Revoloution. This has turned my phone into basically the Sensation XE, just without the red accents. It's even overclocked the processor and I have to admit, it's blazing now with speed. It's well worth it. Don't be conned into an extra £15 a month just because of the Red B logo. That's all it is, no word of lie.

The difference between "Beats" and say a normal Sensation is not huge. The volume levels between Sensation and Sensation XE are slightly different though.
Best way to experience the difference between regular and beats is to run the mudhi beats mod. There are four preset equalizer settings included:
normal
dolby (same as srs)
srs (same as dolby)
beats
(and multiple music type presets)
The difference between "normal" and "beats" is hardly anything to be noticed...
Now, here is why Beats sounds so much different on an XE rom or true beats port. The XE only has two preset equalizer settings:
normal
beats
What htc fails to mention in those settings is that "normal" is actually using srs processing. The s-curves are different between the two, but the srs also provides more of a flat sound enhancing all ranges. This is why there is a dramatic difference between "normal" and "beats".
In the end Beats is really more of a marketing gimmick than anything, and the true quality of the music is mostly determined by what headset you are using...

Beats audio technology and software

I'm trying to understand something here.
From what I know, beats headphones only work and deliver the best sounds quality when they are paired up with the beats audio technology. However this technology must be built into the device playing the music (HTC one x for example)
What I can't seem to understand is why are people installing beats software on their normal Android phones from the play store?
Those beats Headphones are not supposed to work without the technology built in to the device. Not with some random software called beats...
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk 2
I can't help myself... "why are people buying Beats headphones at all ?" is the better question.
They're mediocre and you can get much better sound quality for your money.
It's a gimmick. It's just a pre-set equalizer. It's an .apk when it comes to Android phones. So I'm sure someone has ported or replicated it or whatever for people to download. Or they could just download an equalizer and figure it out themselves.
Thinking it's anything else is falling victim to their marketing.
i think it is just some kind of marketing
Not sayin that the whole beats audio thing is fake or non-effective or anything but well as asparov said...It's Dre, ppl just can't say no to Dre.

I agree, its a complete gimmick. Its just a marketing scheme to get young kids who idolize celebrities in the hip hop/rap game to buy their junk. Its funny that it actually works though. People now walk around with those huge headphones. makes me a laugh a little.
I see. So if beats audio built in technology is just a preset equalizer than the whole beats audio thing is a scam.
Although I will admit those beats headphones have alot of good looks and style...

Unless you have beats headphones, I find it to provide crappy sound on most non-beats headphones/speakers.
In fact an app called Volume+ has a EQ option called "Good Quality" that sounds better IMO on all of my headphones and my Infuse 4G's speakers.
