[Radio][RIL]HOXL Radios/RILs including CM10.x based ROMs (Flashable zips) - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

These are flashable zips that will change your baseband (radio firmware). Google it See twistedxx's post quoted below if you have no idea what this means. If you have an HTC One X (Tegra 3) you're in the wrong place.
twistedddx said:
Radio = firmware
RIL(radio interface layer) = driver
Android = operating system
All 3 are "programs" that are running at different "levels", I have listed them from top to bottom in the order typically considered for how they interact. It is important to understand that a program is just code and how they interact is a philosophy programmers created and are now use to and not because it has to be set out that way.
In the case of the RIL, the API rarely/never changes so it is rarely/never updated.
The actual changes HTC make happen in the "Radio" program.
This is opposite to how say Windows/Nvidia tackle things. The firmware rarely/never changes and they make their changes in the "driver".
In Nvidia's case they do this because there is no standard way in x86BIOS/Windows for GPU firmware to be loaded from something as simple as the installed HDD, the firmware is actually written to chips on the card itself. It is just simpler to make all the code that gets changed inside the "driver" which is easily updated.
For our phones "radio" its trivial for the changes in code to happen at the "driver" level or the "firmware" level, HTC/Google decided they would stick changes in the "firmware". They did this because they created a separate partition for the radio so that they can protect it separately to the OS. Android typically means the phones OS should be open for tweaking, so it must be assumed the driver could easily be replaced.
Countries and Carriers have licensed spectrum to protect and transmitters must be licensed to use it, running custom radio code would break laws in many countries. This leads to the radio firmware being protected much more heavily than the OS itself.
It is because HTC is lazy and because we have awesome devs that we can replace the radio firmware at all. As far as HTC, Country communication regulators and carriers are concerned the user should NEVER be altering the radio software.
Radio:
radio(fancy code stuff) <-> ril(boring translator) <-> Android OS
Nvidia:
firmware(advanced fixed code that allows for flexible access) <-> driver(fancy code stuff and translator) <-> Windows
Note:
Radio is about wireless communications
Nvidia is about graphics processings. They are not similar technologies just some tech you may be familiar with.
PS. API = application programming interface.. and lets just say if you do not understand what that is.. I cant be arsed trying to explain that, go Google it.

If you're on the newer HBOOT (1.14) and insist on running a Sense based ROM use the Jet tool to downgrade to 1.09. This will allow you to write to the radio partition of the phone. Or just S-OFF (w00t!)
If you're running a CM 10.x ROM it doesn't matter what HBOOT you're on as the radio firmware is stored elsewhere (in a writable partition... /system to be precise).
Instructions:
1) Copy zip file to SD Card
2) Boot into Recovery (CWM or TWRP)
3) Flash
4) Reboot
Always take a Nandroid Backup in case something goes screwy!
Your bootloader will not show the correct baseband. I'm working on figuring out how the RUU updater handles the android_info.txt in the firmware.zip's

I think maybe the op should add to the op that if you are running the official sense 5 4.2.2 builds, either telstra or tmobile germany, you SHOULD NOT be flashing the AT&T radios in the op, as they WILL cause data drops and reboots. Not quite sure about non-AT&T radios though...

These are radios for flashing in Sense OR CM 10.x builds after 7/15 nightly!!!. They don't include the RIL files.
CURRENTLY THE DROPBOX LINKS ARE DEAD, THEY'LL BE BACK SOON (Migrating everything over to dev host to avoid this situation in the future)

I think over in the S=OFF Thread they've thrown around a few theories, I dont think any of them involved the radio partition.
The take away from this is that we've been able to flash images to partitions we didnt think we could without S=OFF (kernel, radio) so it might be a relatively moot point to achieve it. As far as ROM Development is concerned anyhow.
I think... could totally be wrong about all of that, though. =)

This is amazing man thank you!!

any way you could make these for the AT&T radios? or at least point me in the right direction to find them?

great man. I'm on 1.73 ATT, any risk with flashing radio from either 1.82 or 1.85 ?

Do we have the ability to flash radios from the One S or does it have to be a S4 One X??

First off thank you for this, I have been wanting my default rogers radio since upgrading to at&t 1.85 RUU. I have been questioning if there Is any difference in reception on my device.
Now, Please don't take this the wrong way, I am not trying to sound like an as!, but Rogers Canada does not have a "d" in Rogers. Again I realize this is a little petty, but I felt the point should at least be raised. Again, I am more then grateful that you have done this. Thanks again.

Please make one for ATT 1.85. I have been on 1.82 and didn't want to relock to RUU. I have been hoping for something like this for awhile now! Please good sir, may I have just a little more radios please, I haven't flashed anything in three long days.

Why are you so adamant on achieving S-OFF now that were bootloader unlocked and we can flash full ROMS with the ability to flash the boot.img and flash the radios from within recovery there is absolutely nothing more that you need except for HTC to release the source. Once HTC releases the Source we can start getting custom kernels and AOSP ROMS can get moving.

Can someone post the ATT 1.73 radio ?
am uploading the ones for 1.82 and 1.85 now (it'll take a while)

thats because it is (the Inspire 4G and Telus DHD are the EXACT same device internally, externally, its only a difference of the logo, the telus one uses the HTC logo, while the Inspire 4G uses the AT&T logo on the back.
The higher build Radio from the 2.52 Korean build works amazing with the ril's from this/the 2.43 Telus build (which are also the same btw)
Never mind. Thank you.

i really dont understand whats going on here. i installed this factory rom to replace the custom rom i had. and after i flashed it and go into hboot, my phone is still s-off. can i please get a factory stock rom that will s-on and unroot? seriously.. why was this rom passed off as a factory rom when its really not? i dont get it.
Is this rom, suitable only for USA networks or it is suitable for the Europe also ?

Flashing a stock rom will not remove s-off or eng mode. It's a separate process
Mind you - if you flash via sd method idk.....
Sorry for digging up an old thread, but I want some clarification.
If I run this, it will not unroot my device, just install the update and the AT&T bloatware?

Do not flash new ruu's

If you are able to flash roms and kernel all in one with out having to use the fastboot method, i suggest you do not flash any updated RUU's
Everything in that ruu is included in all the new roms 2.20 and 2.23 bases, radio are found in the radio thread too. If you take the ruu, you are only setting your self back in development for S-Off and will create a headache for developers and users.
If you want the latest and greatest, then flash the new rooted roms we have in developers section and flash the radios too but i dont recommend anyone taking a updated RUU

You are very mistaken. Ril with matching radio on proper framework work perfect. I had been messing with radios, rils and different firmwares for quite a bit. If you know what you are doing, yes you can mix. A ruu will make no difference. All roms come with rils fyi

Xs is right, look at all the proved reports of people gaining nearly a double in LTE and H+ Speeds in cleanroms forums and in a few others with 2.20 Radio over 1.85, 2.09, and 2.23
I think that's beneficial? i also noticed alot less battery drain and managed to work a full 8 hours with 100% brightness, web browsering, texting, and calls without plugging her up
P.S. oooh im a senior member now when did that happen?

Now you are very mistaken There are a lot of other partitions/firmware you get from installing a ruu that you don't get when you install a custom rom. It would be great if you guys could possibly make a firmware flash option like mike1986 and some of the other veteran devs do. Include the stuff that's beneficial, leave out (hboot) the stuff we don't want or need. Mike1986 swears by installing his firmware zips when there has been a significant change. With 24000 thanks and support for 11 or 12 devices hes probably one of the best Rom developers android has. Here Is a link to one of his firmware threads so you can see what I'm talking about. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412618
Compare a dump from 4.03 and 4.04. We probably didnt need this with the 4.03 ruus. There are some nice fixes in the new 2.20. The rom image alone might not give us all of the benefits. I know it can be a little more work but the goal is the best running device possible right? 4.03 to 4.04 is a significant update. On the sensation not flashing the new firmware you would almost always take a performance and battery life hit. Not to mention strange random bugs.
Now that there are two different hboots in play we might have to stop including kernels etc in the roms... Have to be flashed separately. Include the other necessary firmware/partitions like mike1986 does as a separate package. Plenty of devices that are that way. We've just been lucky to be able to do it without soff. New phones are being shipped with new firmware. Once root is found then there will be a lot more new hboots flashing custom roms... You will have to change the way you do things. Its gonna get harder for rom devs when new revisions are out, its that simple.
How can you know that the new hboot will hinder s-off development? It could very well be the answer to s-off as far as anybody knows... HTC made changes.. They could have made a mistake.
Why firmware package like mike1986 does is better then full RUU: You get the advantages and leave out the disadvantages
1. It doesn't contain stock recovery
2. It doesn't contain stock, non rooted system
3. It doesn't contain secured boot.img
4. It wont wipe your data partition
5. It's much smaller
This is an example of the things that are in his firmware package..

Cool so you agree that is important. a lot of people are having radio issues around here. Question is... i wonder if we can do this without s-off? There are a lot of things we can do without s-off with the hox that other devices cant.. only with the original hboot that is.
i am one of the lucky ones who took the new update. now yes.............there r a ton of improvements!!!! one of my favorites is the sms bubbles r back to a 3D look. not to mention how smooth, and snappier it is now!!!!! i wish i would have waited, but im not mad, ill b happy if im stuck like this 4 awhile!!! i still had my unlock token, si i have root, and options to flash roms, with exception to the boot.img, i cant flash any kernels, or splash screens right now, but im cool with it! hey........i look @ it like this, im helping a little by taking it, i sent beaups a log from my rooted firmware, he is working on a new root method, im good and i know eventually the loop holes will b found like always!

you can still flash kernels through fastboot right? Just not included with the rom. So it takes an extra minute...well worth the fixes if you ask me.

You are very mistaken. Ril with matching radio on proper framework work perfect. I had been messing with radios, rils and different firmwares for quite a bit. If you know what you are doing, yes you can mix. A ruu will make no difference. All roms come with rils fyi

I'm saying that if we have the 1.85 ril and we flash the 2.20 radio then its not as good as having both the 2.20 radio and ril. It says in the radio thread not to flash any radios + ril's on 4.0.4 based roms. So unless we flash the 2.20 ruu then we won't have both the 2.20 radio and ril.

Once beaups or whoever gets us root on stock 2.20, kernels will have to be left out of roms or either have two versions of roms. This is why i think its a good time to look into the firmware package idea.. Since we are heading towards flashng seperate kernels anyway..and our phone has two different android versions now.... I wonder how big the bounty would have to be for the EVO people to help us out on the s-off...:crying:

Have you been around the hox forums for a while? we can do some amazing things with the original firmware. Really almost everything. members have flashed all kinds of partitions to our phone trying to get s-off. I think thats why s-off develoment slowed down for us...we really didnt need it. None of the older devices could do half the things we can with s-on. The new hboot fixes that though. One of XS's points. Someone will figure out how to ruu back to an older hboot through gold card or whatever i betcha.

I like your idea about the mike1986 method of flashing firmwares. You should let the developers know. That would be great for us who don't wanna ruu.

Which radio to flash?

I have terrible reception, and I realize I haven't flashed a new radio since I had this phone. Currently rooted/unlocked FW1.85 running Newts JB v2.00 (Jellybean and Sense 4+)
My radio is ATT 1.85 (0.17.32.09.12_10.86.32.08L)
a box of kittens linked me to the radio thread, but im not sure which one to flash, can anybody help me real quick?
Thanks!
Anyone of the radios from your carrier will work. Just depends on how well it will work. There should be a Google maps link for radio compatibility. Its hit or miss really. If your Hboot is below >1.14 ie 1.09 etc then you can flash in recovery and try them on for size.

The radio does not have to be from your carrier. You can flash any radio on any network (well, I shouldn't say "any radio" on "any network" because I'm not POSITIVE that's true, but I've flahsed several non-AT&T radios and have no problems on AT&T's network.

That's pretty true. As long as its a radio meant for our device, it will work. Whether it works the "best" or not is based more on your very specific geographic location, more than carrier. So I've had instances where the best radio for my device was not the one for my carrier. Pretty sure I'm on a non-AT&T radio right now, and have been for months.
In addition to what you learn from the map, newer radios might be a good place to start. HTC is continually trying to make improvements to the radios with each new one. But again, it doesn't always pan out that way, and not a sure thing.

If you're using CM10, yeah. If you're on sense its a different one. I quoted it in the thread. But as said above, what hboot do you have. If you have the 2.20 firmware you have to downgrade your hboot first before you can flash a radio.

I'm pretty sure that cm10 takes its radio from a non protected partition, hence why it's a different radio that needs to be installed. And I think they are non hboot dependant. But I don't run aosp so I'm not positive.

Hi mate,
can you tell which software version exactly and is this a WWE variant?
I ask because i got a Villeplus as a present from some HTC manager and it had a Firmware on it which was WWE and newer than the Asia RUU that has been floating around for a while, BUT, i forgot to pull a full backup before getting rid of stuff in it. So, now i have a (nearly) full raw partition dump but i am lacking data partition (10GB was too large, aborted pull cuz i thought it was stuck) and i also got rid of some system apps i didn't want, so basically screwed up.
Now i wonder if this is maybe the variant i am after? The 1.14.999.50. 710RD (with all WWE languages) and not 1.14.709.16 which is only Thai/Chinese/English?
Plus, is it already adjusted to run on the Ville or is it screwing the partitioning? Cuz i need one that's ok to run on the Villeplus...

This is based on the one already floating around. So not the wwe version. Come to think of it that's what was on my device before I screwed up my device. If you have a full system dump I can make these for it too. Unless its broken. This is working fine on my villeplus without issue. I tested them both on it
Edit: I'm going to try and get the wwe ruu. Its missing from my site anyways

Asked my manager "Friend" from HTC for it. No reply, no way we're gonna get that RUU unless you got a leak source still.
That RUU would be extremely handy as i want to get Viper running on it and Torxx could need the RUU to check out a few things.
And i am currently trying to find my way through HTC's partition wizzardry blindfolded (total beginner with this). All partitions are at the exact same addresses, the Ville RUU's run on it too but the Mounts are screwed in the flashed Ville RUU afterwards so i have no idea where else to look.
Next thing i'm gonna do is pull a RAW Dump of my Ville and write it over to the Plus without mmcblk0p3 to not risk any serious sh!t (hboot from Ville already been on it and working) and then see if the Partitions are still messed up (maybe clear storage with Ville Stock Recovery helps fixing that then??).

It should flash actually. It can also be that dude uses later TWRP variants which are broken and don't flash stuff. He didn't specify.
There's one guy further up who did flash it to the Ville. It's just screwing up the mounts actually.

HTC ATT radio vs ATT radio?

Loving my HTC One X so far. I have it unlocked, activated on T-Mobile, and running the ViperXL ROM and reception is less than stellar at my house. My wife has the exact same phone (not sure of radio at the moment) and gets 3 bars when I get no service.
The baseband version currently shows as ATT 2.20 (0.19as.32.09.11_2_10.105.32.25). Is it acceptable to flash the HTC ATT 3.18 (0.24p.32.09.06_10.130.32.34) ? Not sure of the difference between the HTC ATT and the ATT radios. I'm in the US, if that makes any difference.
Thanks in advance!!!

The letters "HTC" don't make any difference. They are all from HTC. The difference is one is a later version. Country doesn't make a difference either. The proper radio for your location is often just trial and error. So yes, flashing a different radio is certainly worth a try.
Also, you need to be s-off to flash radios.
Thanks for the information. I've updated the radio to the exact same version as my wife's, but coverage hasn't changed.
Is it possible the ROM/Kernel is to blame? I'm going to test with EternittyProject's CM 10.2 ROM and Kernel to see if that helps anything.
Be careful because flashing a rom for the wrong phone will NOT help your radio issue
