Noone? I imported using ringdroid the same way I do on my bionic but the songs just play a loud scratch sound for less than a second and then stop. The phone is brand new just about. I rooted it and installed a few apps but I am not sure what would be causing the problem.
I guess this is an isolated problem I am having

For anyone that gives a damn, the issue was that ringdroid was moving the ringtones to anonline unknown location, possibly a read only folder, which was glitching bad on playback (it wouldn't). The fix was to for into my sd card and go to the media--> audio-> ringtones folder and place them there. What a pita, is there a way to make ringdroid send my ringtones to this folder instead?

Juicy I am having the same problem. I'm a little bit of a newbie with the Skyrocket. Would you mind going into detail about how to fix it? Myxer and Ringdroid do the same thing.
Zedge doesn't have that problem.
Had this problem too, downloaded a different app to do the same job.

In regards to sammy phones, I believe ringtones go to system>media>ringtones/notifications/alarms/video folder.
CM10 is like this as I'm pretty sure TW is as well.

It's there a way to remove the annoying shutdown/start up sound without putting the phone in silent?

Sgs tools in the market will remove the startup and shutdown tones. You can also put your phone in silent and it will mute those sounds.

princedwi,
Have you used SGS Tools to Upgrade Stock Apps on the Galaxy 4G? Have you applied any other hacks besides the shutdown tones?
Thanks!

Ive used in upgrade stock apps the stock market, and it forced my old market to update to the new one =) I also used the gps fix and the secret codes.

Root your phone and download "SGS Tools" from the market. It has an option to either disable bootup/shutdown sounds or just disable them entirely.

Cool, I just used the camera and gallery mod. Cool app. If it would all me to change my lock screen would be super cool!
I know this is a really old post. I originally used SGS Tools to disable the sound. Recently, I upgraded to Gingerbread and the sounds are back. SGS Tools does not seem to be available anymore. At least I couldn't find it. Anyway, the actual files are /system/etc/PowerOn.wav and /system/media/audio/ui/PowerOff.wav. I just mounted the folders R/W and renamed the files and rebooted. (Root Explorer) Works like a charm. I suppose you can delete them as well. Enjoy the silence.

Custom Roms usually remove the sounds and are much better, try Valhalla.
I have used Zedge before on other Android phone with no trouble. But I have the inspire now I can get the ringtone to work but the notification sound will not work. Is their a way to get it to work or a different app so I can get different notifications sounds other then stock?

I found a way around this. Download Ringdroid from the market. It let's you take songs or sound clips and make them into ringtones & such for your phone. Open whatever you want in that app then save it as a notification not a ringtone.

Did you install it via Titanium backup? or straight from the market?
I've been using zedge since my captivate, and now on my inspire with no issues. Have quite a lot of notification sounds in use right now I've gotten from Zedge.

How would I install titanium backup ? the ringdroid work good to now that I figure it out.
Keep an eye on that Zedge. This morning I was going through my SD card while plugged into my laptop and noticed that Zedge had created for itself a cache folder that was just over 185MB and contained over 5,000 files. That's a bit excessive for a wallpaper/sound app, in my opinion.

thanks. I have been deleting that ****.
I am wondering if there is a fix for this and am completely puzzled why Samsung and/or Google took this feature away on the Nexus...
So I threw in a couple of custom ringtones into my media/audio/ringtones folder in the Nexus S but noticed that the phone wouldn't loop the ringtones! Its rather annoying having it ring just once and stop. I understand there's programs that will loop the mp3 file a couple of times before I throw it in the folder but come on...that process shouldn't even be necessary...
Really weird...
Awesome ringtone included.
i saw a thread about it, but i guess only 4g devices were affected. as far as i remember, in that thread a sollution was not found, the OP just created a custom ringtone that loop by itself! =o)
Could just get a mp3 trimmer, make it last as long as it rings.
I have an nsg4, don't have this problem, might want to call your service support.

Waaaait a minute...you're saying that your custom ringtones loops without a problem? Even if you put it in the media/audio/ringtones folder???
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
I just saved audio clips from pic messages, looked in ringtones and they were there. But considering these models arnt consistent as far as functioning, might just be a glitch in my phone. Try getting a ringtone maker that has options for loop, and access your audio files through the app.
Like i said, might just be a glitch in my phone.

I feel like I can be helpful for once. It will loop ringtones if you convert the mp3 to OGG format, and in the file info (you can edit this in Winamp for example), create a field called ANDROID_LOOP and set the value to TRUE.
Have a NS4G. Looping the instrumental from Yeah3X as current ringtone.

Not sure how to exactly describe the sound but I randomly get a ear piercing zapping noise while listening through earphones or connected to aux wire in the car. After it happens the volume gets lower and I have to pull out the wires and then restart the song. Anyone else experience this?
Fyi my setup is latest synergy r147. But it also happened since I had r125.
Maybe its just hardware related.
this is only happening in poweramp and not the stock player.

Not necessarily. It could be that your audio cable is damaged or there is a grounding loop if you're charging it as well

I tried playing the same files on the stock player but never got the squealing noise. and if i unplug it it still squeals. and it happens when it is cold outside. pls help i cannot figure it out. seems like poweramp is the problem so i deleted poweramp and reinstalled it. and only restored data from TIBU. and after a while the noise comes back. i don't know what to do

It's the file format themselves then. Which file formats do you notice cause the squeaking? For me, I noticed that wma and m4a files cause constant squeaking in PowerAmp whereas mp3's work fine. I have zero issues playing those same audio files in the stock player. Basically, any music files that I placed on my phone from Windows Media Player and iTunes cause music popping/cracking unless using the stock music player.

It's ridiculous that those two file formats cause issues for me. The worst part is I have those same exact files on my HTC Droid Incredible and have absolutely no issues. It was something I noticed immediately once I received my GSIII in July but previously had no issues with. Months ago I sent an email to the PowerAmp dev to inquire about this and they told me it was an issue with Samsung's firmware not their app. It seems like Samsung sabotaged music file compatibility with third party apps. I still love PowerAmp though.

I've been having the same problem. Whether its my ear phones, AV cable in the car or, at work it does it. Even on different apps (native music player, play music, and podcast app). I have an otter box so my ports are good and clean and no water damage. No idea why it happens but I've got a replacement on the way for an unrelated reason. So hopefully it won't do it too.

Fwiw I think I found the problem....it was a low voltage problem. When my voltages for kernel settings were tweaked to be lower I would immediately get the zapping sounds. Can't say what the levels were but anything I setup away from stock...it happened. Hope this helps anyone.
