Warning BusyBox 1.20.1? - General Questions and Answers

Just updated my BusyBox (with pro installer) and it broke everything. lost root access on my rom, 90% of my apps were broken, wifi was gone. Not the only one either... reviews in appstore have tons of people with same issue.
Dunno if this has been posted elsewhere, but just in case, thought i'd get it out there cause i didn't see it.
Current BusyBox update KILLED my Evo. Nand before you update it...

I updated last night and have had no problems? Is it specific devices i wonder?

I've not had any problems with 1.20.1 on my Samsung Galaxy Y (using Stericson's BusyBox app), though the install of it was very slow. It said I had 250Mb of system space left though, when I only had 25.0Mb remaining...
Press 'Thanks' if I helped!

There was a bug with version 8.0 of my application.
There is not an issue with Busybox V1.20.1.
I apologize for this bug, the application symlinked all applets to Busybox and on some devices there are applets which are unique to the device and should not be replaced by those offered by Busybox.
A simple way to fix this is to simply reflash your rom. You do not need to wipe or clear any data. This will fix the issue and you can update Busybox normally with my application as long as it is version 8.1 or higher.
I apologize for the frustration I have caused, please let me know if I can do anything to help you further.

I had no idea what happened to my WIFI until now. Thanks for the fix Stericson.

Right on... grabbed new updater, went through the motions, everything normal after reboot.
Thought i had phone in OP, but i'm running EVO 4G (seems a lot of people that had issues are on EVO too, don't know if it's related, but there ya have it)
Thanks though Stericson.

no problems here
I have it on my epic 4G and it;s working with no problem! probably a bad install uninstall and reinstall... just a thought

It was just an issue with my application, version 8.0. The bug has since been fixed.
Looks like most who have been hit by the bug are back up and running.

No problems here, Galaxy S ICS powered.

I'm still not updating. Droid x2 running cm7.2.0 rc1. I reflashed my rom this morning and the "smart installer" just keeps running. I have busy box pro.

No problems here, too

i installed it and it slow down my system boot, after the boot animation it's takes a while and I see the indication 'loading' on the widget and calendar......
nexus s 404 stock kernel and rom...su+cwm touch
now i think to uninstall it...but uninstall would mess up something?? and i have to get the pro version??
tnx

I don't think it's a bug in busybox, rather incompatibility with Android. I've been using devel builds of busybox-power (with extra progs) on Maemo and worked flawlessly. >= 1.20 works awesome

and regarding uninstall it...uninstall would mess up something??
and i have to get the pro version??
tnx again

It's not busybox itself it's the install program. I have busybox pro by Stericson. I've been reading other threads and he thinks he has all the bugs worked out. My" smart install" part of the program ran constant for days without installing the update. No way is this thing fixed. I finally had to go back to my last backup and recover. Then I uninstalled the busy box pro install app. I still have busybox the program on my phone. It reverted back to 1.94cm7 version which came with the rom. I'm not reinstalling that app until I know it's fixed. It really messed up my phone. I won't be receiving any updates but that's OK I'll wait. By the way I have a Droid x2 running cm7 dx2 rc1.

thank you for reply

I'm running it on my Samsung Infuse I997 and there are no problems

For what its worth, mines A ok. Running boxpro 1.20.1

[Q] Droid 1 rooted, now bugged by forced updates from verizon...

Hi All, First, let me say wow! This place is great. If it weren't for a space and forum like this a girl like me would totally be at the mercy of Verizon... A big up front Thanks!!
Ok, that being said, here's my problem. I rooted my D1 (Android 2.2.1 build FRG83G) using Soup or Root (tried z4root several times without success). Soup or Root worked great! I have access to root level and have super user permissions. I installed Busy Box and Barnacle (two more great pieces!) and have been enjoying my unlimited wifi thereing with all my wifi toys on the road. Life is good!!
But now, my phone keeps bugging me to install a system update of FRG83G - even though I still show that's the build I am running... I turned off 'Auto sync' and 'Background data' hoping this would stop the assault but no luck. I also searched everywhere on my device (using Astro File Manager) for the update file hoping to delete it but could not find it. I searched all directories for a file of the size indicated in the assult message. I even tried searching for all '.apk' files hoping I could find it and delete it that way... Nope.
How can I stop the assault and delete this update assault file message thing... Help!
Thanks in adavnce...
Gwen
are you currently running a custom rom?
Not running custom ROM
I am not running a custom ROM. I am pretty much a novice at this stuff. Now that this update message keeps coming up since I rooted, after all I am reading here and on other forums,. I am worried my device will be bricked if/when I inevitablby butt-run the update... if you know what I mean... Help. gwen4156 at comcast dot net Tx

Htc One S Root SuperSU0.99 issue

Hi
Many people complained last days that they have problem with SuperSU 0.99 app.
They cant update the binary and phone reboots its self after "update failed" message
I got an HTC One S with S4 cpu last week and i got the new Jelly Bean Update 4.1.1
Then i unlocked my bootloader and installed TWRP custom recovery with One_S_All-In-One_Kit_v3.0 tool kit
After that i tryed to Root the phone with SuperSU 0.99.
Seems worked fine until i tryed to update my binary.
I get message "update failed" and my phone restarts.
I tryed to wipe and reflash the root but still same.
I even tryed to remove SUPERSU from System/App but with no luck. It keeps coming back even if i
removing it and revert everything to stock its still in SYSTEM.
Now i found this new Superuser version and flashed it and now my phone works fine and updating binary.
No more phone restart.
Even my SuperSU 0.99 is gone from system.
How TO:
Download superuser from this page http://androidsu.com/superuser/
Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip
Then boot into recovery
Flash Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip
Restart and voila the root works...
Hope i helped you guys.. Good Luck
Version 3.1.3 is reported to work better.
And doubt it really needed a new thread starting its discussed in most rom treads.
I started this thread just because of the issue SUPERSU 0.99 brings to HTC One S with Jelly Bean update.
I hope i can help someone because i didnt find any solution to my problem until i flashed superuser and it solved my problem.

I agree that this adds clutter, but I have been lightly following the threads for the JB ROMs and tried using superuser (though not the rc) without it working (still unable to update system). It's good to have this kind of solution in its own thread but general would probably be a better section.

This doesn't belong in the dev section for multiple reasons
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app
Im sorry i didnt see that it was Development section. If someone can move it pls do so.
everyone uses SU...... this is very important for everyone using JB... leave it in here...
I feel it belongs here... this is where SU apps are in the development section... SO, this is where it should stay... (that is just my opinion)
I never want to start this thread like an development because im not a developer.
Reason is that i want to share my issue with anyone who is facing the same problem as i did.
Just like i said if someone think this thread doesn´t belong here then admins can move it to right section.
Updated to JB with OTA yesterday night.
Short version:
-Initially rooted with CWM recovery-> flashed MoDaCo stock recovery
-Apply OTA
-Flash CWM recovery
-Used CWM recovery to flash SuperSU 0.99 zip
-Uninstall/reinstall SuperSu from the Market
When starting SuperSU, it asks for update, if agree -> reboot.
BUT
When using root needing apps, like Titanium backup or FX file manager, they ask for root permission through SU and everything runs normally.
So SuperSU seems to work, only the front end app has some bug. I'm staying with that config waiting for an update.
Hi, same problem here on S3 cpu. Is this method works on S3 cpu as well? Thx for replying.
Hi. I think I have a problem with SuperSU (or something else??). I first started SuperSU last thursday (31.1.2013.). It ask me to update binary, I hit OK, and then it took about half hour to restart. System then recovered, and everything seem to be OK, but it's not!
When I connect my HTC One S to PC I only see files created (photos, videos) until 31.01.2013. Also, when I run Settings -> Memory com.android.settings crashes.
What to do?
I'm new to android. Plese help!

Any idea on how to get SuperSU work instead of SuperUser? I purchased SuperSU in the play store and I think it just looks better...

Making a cross post, please get back with your findings!

Samsung has done something. Please check your rooted i9506 (those who have done that and tripped Knox)

Strange my I9506 works just fine. No problems with anything. And its rooted and Knox tripped. Play store works and my apps are just fine. Rom Customizer is the only one off your apps that i have one mine and its still there. I guess i have to wait and see if Sammy pushes something to my phone.
Very strange issue...
In my case even if I want to manually run the Updater it refuses to go on by telling me that I have a modified device.
No problems here. Rooted, no KNOX tripped, all counters officials/normal and I have turned off updating.
Not SIM locked...btw.
I did an Odin on it yesterday. Was the same.
Did a total reset + Odin - Still Wifi issues
Chanched the Recovery - updated the SU-binary, updated ALL Samsung ****, not touching it. WIfi fine, not installed that dir yet since I just got up.
Oh, it had something about updating Play Services this morning that it tried to update but failed. Rebooted. Got like 15 "Unable to update" (the ones
when you are a naughty boy and install warez and there is a new version).
But clicking on them and upgrading them manually (just samsun/google blah) went fine. Updated the SuperSU.
So far so good. But I need to get rid of that garbage they put in my phone anyway. And here I sat and thought HTC was bad...
Need to start to measure and I need to get it to start listing the hardware. Don't want to root my Note 3...just yet.
What ever happened to the General Purpose phones they made headlines about in the spring? Really miss one.

I understand **** How did you root your 9506?

[Q] Help SuperSU instantly crashes after installing as system app how do I fix

Hey guys.
Ok so I updated my Samsung Galaxy S4 i9500 to android 4.3. All went well and I rooted it and Installed CWM. Booted up and there was no supersu !? Non the less I manually downloaded it and all and got everything running nice. Being an ass I decided lets try installing it as a system app I had a idea what it was but not really I was more just having an itch in the ass. Well after that it shows up as a green android man with the Eu.chainfire.supersu.main... and when I tap it, it looks like its going in and them just crashes. I can get the report if anyone can help. Because I cant uninstall it anywhere cause its a ''system app'' I still have root but ya.so the big Q is how do I fix it...

Is superuser v2.25 compatible on lollipop?

So I can successfully install superuser v2.40, but it's not working with one of my apps (puzzle and dragons). I have been told me to downgrade to 2.25, but I have been having issues.
The problem is no matter what, when I flash 2.25 it gets stuck in a bootloop. Flashing it on stock, and even flashing it over 2.40, and flashing it over 2.40 when clicking the replace button in the superuser app. What am I doing wrong? Is 2.25 not compatible with my phone?
Hi First of all, if you have any compatibility issues with apps try upgrading them rather than downgrading. In this case SuperSU v2.46 would be the current version. Anyways, I just googled a bit and that's not the problem at all.
The developers of the game implemented a function which doesn't let the app start on a rooted device. It will check if you have Superuser-rights and automatically close the game at the splash screen if so.
So actually what you need is something that "hides" your root. There are several methods. I heard about Xposed modules like RootCloak for example. I even read on the xda News page that it's Lollipop compatible

Thanks for the reply. On the game's forums, I have been told that masking does not work (if you look at xposed rootcloak it says it's not compatible). And some users have been able to get the game to work with certain versions. I am on the latest binaries and it still doesn't work. The only way to get it to work is to unsinstall SuperSU and reflash it every time I want to play.
On some forums I've read that SuperSU has got a function to "hide" or "temporarily disable" it... Take a look at the app. Hopefully this feature hasn't been removed and maybe that's enough for you to get the game working. It's not a perfect solution but at least you don't have to uninstall / reflash every time. Let me know if it worked
