set Swiftkey 3 to system and default keyboard - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

hi all i successfully change the default samsung keyboard with swiftkey X simply copy in system/app and blocking the samsung keyboard, now when i erase ram the default keyboard is swiftkey (first of mod, when i use script v6 than i erase ram i must to go to set every time the swiftkey but with this metod i resolve it)....now the problem, i try to use the same passage but using the new beta of swiftkey 3 but a recive force close constantly....how to resolve????

Change permissions for it after you push to the system folder and restart your phone. That might help.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA

was my first try but don't work....work only with swiftkey X.... but i don't know why....

You need to install it after you push it to the system folder. Just click the apk and select install

i try to install after copy in system/app and work But when restart phone give force close
EDIT:
now work!!! i do this passage
1- install swiftkey normally and configure it
2- freeze all other keyboard
3- restart phone
now you have a good work system keybord

I don't know if this is still of interest, but:
This guide for the Nook Color applies to any device when moving keyboard apks to /system/app.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369205
You need to move the lib file from "/data/data/**yourkeyboard'sapknamehere**/lib/" to /system/lib.
So in case of SwiftKey it would be /data/data/com.touchtype.swiftkey/lib
At least that did the trick for me - no FCs any more.

how to install an new ime for gtab?

I downloaded and installed an new ime which supports hand-writing input. It seems istalled ok and running. When i tried to input something, the tap' n tap keyboard always shows up and i can't use the new one. Do i need to remove the tap 'n tap first?
Assuming you're running either stock VS TnT or TnTlite, search the forums for replacement/alternative keyboards, there are two ways of activating installed alternative input method, one involves temporarily flashing stock android settings app, enabling your keyboard and flashing VS TnT settings back, second requires modifying the permissions via adb shell or something similar. I personally find flashing stock settings app is easier. Reboot, flash stock, reboot, go to settings, put a checkbox next to your keyboard(s), reboot, flash VS app, reboot, your keyboard is now activated and can be selected.
Once your input method is activated, long press on input box will display a popup where you can switch input method from TnT to yours. You don't need to remove TnT keyboard, you can switch to any (activated) keyboard on the fly using this long press technique.

Which firmware is on your Gtab? Also which IME?
You can try copying the apk file from /data/app to /system/app, then reboot.

I think you will need to modify apk's permission bits after copying to fully activate it. It is in the forums somewhere...

Swype Beta 3.0 on EVO... any success?

Hi all,
As the title implies, I just tried updating to the newest version and keep getting an error telling me that it's running in limited mode (allows key press) but when I swype, NOTHING!
The funny thing is when i try to generate the license I follow the steps:
1) click disable swype (it then throws you to the keyboard selection screen where i choose android keyboard)
2) uncheck swype (I don't even see this option on the keyboard selection screen, I'm on MIUI
3) hit generate license
For the previous build... the hack/fix/trick was to start from a swpye free device, install the installer, then install swype... After doing this, you don't go back into the installer to generate the license, you'd go backup the swype apk using a backup tool, then uninstall swype... then restore the backup (then long press home button) and click on swype installer which would register and generate ok.
Any Thoughts?
Worked perfect for me. As a previously registered member, all I did was log in. Dl the installer. Installed the swype. Used it. Realized why i deleted it to begin with. Uninstalled. Looks better, yes...would rather type the Damn thing out than have to correct over and over again little errors that my HTC kingdom keyboard fixes. Good luck w your install tho
Also mine generated its own license after i completed the install.
weird... are you on MIUI?
I'm at a loss as to why it won't work.
I'm trying some suggestions found here:
http://forum.swype.com/showthread.php?3719-Install-Swype-on-MIUI-without-Titanium-Backup!
i finally got my hands on a 3.0 apk. It will not install. The forums say it won't install over a "system" version. So now i think i have to figure out how to remove the installed version.

One of the new features of 3.0 was tap correction, so it can do the same things the stock keyboard can as well.

It sounds like you've got the preloaded version installed.
Try using root explorer to uninstall it.

Well isn't that amazing!!
Finally got this working on MIUI.
I followed the steps from the 4th post on http://forum.swype.com/showthread.php?3719-Install-Swype-on-MIUI-without-Titanium-Backup
"Sorry, but for me it does not work.
This guide has now works for me.
Download installer
Download and install swype
At the enable step leave the installer and select swype as the input device
Reboot your phone
After Reboot, open the swype installer again
Select "Select Android keyboard" and change input back to android keyboard
Choose disable swype, go to applications and uninstall swype but NOT THE INSTALLER
Go back to the installer and generate license
This should put you through the download process again so just follow it and re-install swype
Once re-installed it should generate the license, but it still won't work
Reboot your phone again and all should work, enjoy!

However, thank you for your help! "

This is exactly what i had to do. I found the existing swype apk, deleted it, restarted the phone and was able to install the new version.
All i have to say so far is awesome! Typing in "normal" mode doesn't seem to lag or be as clumsy as before. Plus(my favorite feature so far) it now asks if you would like to add a word to the dictionary instead of just adding whatever i happened to be typing at the time on it's own. MUCH more control over what words are included. I'm still playing around with it, but so far i'm impressed.
Does miui comes work swype already? If it does you will need to get a file explorer...then go to system/app and look for swype....when you find swype deleted and then reboot your phone...when the phone is on instal swype installer and swype and just follow the instruction to regenerate the license....it work for me....

There is also a library file to delete. in system/lib/libswype.so or something like that. I had to delete that file before it would work for me.
Its more efficient to delete the swype.apk from system/app if you need a file explorer let me know our you can go to the market and download one

I'd also say just titanium backup to remove and then install the new apk.
Worked for me at least, and man is this worlds better than 2.5xxx
all thats needed to install the new beta is uninstall the official apk and lib.
on miui just install then restart the phone. the licence will generate itself. im loving the new beta, but i must admit im a bit jealous if the themeing honeycomb users got for the honeycomb version of swype 3.0.
No issues here. Just uninstalled Swype and went to beta.swype.com to download the new one.

Sorry for noob question.

Yes, HTCs stock ROM for ICS comes with two or three pre-installed keyboards for non-latin languages.
ZingKey is one of them.
Thx, i got scared a bit from it.
I just removed it together with the thai keyboard using titanium backup (root required).
If you're root, you can use ADB in recovery mode to move the JS_Keyboard.apk from /system/app somewhere else, which removes Thai Keyboard and Zinga (and stops that "choose input" icon from appearing)
Once in recovery, connect to computer and open "adb shell" (on windows, open CMD as administrator and type "adb shell"
Use these commands in numerical order. Anything without a number next to it is a note for you to read but not type in. Also dont type the number or the fullstop immediately after it
1. mount /system
2. mount /sdcard
ignore any errors
3. mkdir /sdcard/device_files
we make a folder to move the apk into for backup - you never know when you want the original back in place
4. cd /system/app
move to the apps folder
5. mv JS_Keyboard.apk /sdcard/device_files
move the app from your system to the backup folder
6. reboot
your phone will reboot with no thai keyboard or zingkey!
Also if you want to put it back (for any reason) then get back into recovery with adb shell, then do in order: 1. 2. 4. then the command: mv /sdcard/device_files/JS_Keyboard.apk /system/app" then "reboot"

You can disable zing key and thai keyboard without root using regular application settings.
to answer the original question:
It was included in the update. Ignore it if it isn't bothering you, removing wouldn't harm system either.

The keyboard in notification bar - asking me which keyboard do I want was quite annoying.
I uninstalled Zingkey as well as Thai Keyboard via Titanium Backup, no problems ;]

How to remove default Message application?

Hi i am using Hercolubus Rom v 2.7 but i dont like default message application. when i install other application like GO SMS or OTHER then i recieve any sms on both application in default n other. So my Ques is How to replace default Message to Other Msg Apk ?
i try to remove default but when i did this.. message wont working So i reinstall rom again for working again.
Thanks n sorry for bad english
This is a problem with GoSMS. They have an option in one of the settings that you have to tick to fix the problem. I haven't used GoSMS in a long time so i can't remember where the setting is.
You can freeze/uninstall the app from Link2SD (even without linking your apps) or you can remove /system/app/Mms.apk from ADB or a File manager that supports root exploring (ES File Manager, Root Explorer) in this case you need to remember that you MUST remount the system partition as r/w.

4.2 Keyboard and camera

Android 4.2 keyboard with gesture, its as good as swipe.

After installing go to languages and input and check Android Key board
Hope it will be useful.

Now, getting it on your device is going to be easy for some of you, and less easy for others. You'll need to be on Android 4.0+, to start.
If you're on a phone with a UI overlay that has the stock keyboard disabled (eg, Samsung TouchWiz, HTC Sense, Sony), you can just download the apk below- no root required. To install, make sure you have "install from unknown sources" enabled in your phone settings, and after installation, go into your phone's keyboard settings and enable "Android keyboard." Then, you can switch to the new keyboard. This may also work on some "stock" Android custom ROMs - but it will not work on stock Android builds distributed by Google.
Get the apk here: http://d-h.st/XuS
If the apk doesn't work, you're running a phone that is either A.) running stock Android (as in, AOSP), or B.) running software that has the stock Android keyboard as an option, you'll need to download this ZIP file, and flash it in recovery. That also means you're going to need root. as you'll be writing to /system/apps. Before you do, though, either back up the stock keyboard (if you don't know how, you probably shouldn't be doing this) or create a full image backup, just in case. Here's that ZIP file:
