How to remove default Message application? - Galaxy 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi i am using Hercolubus Rom v 2.7 but i dont like default message application. when i install other application like GO SMS or OTHER then i recieve any sms on both application in default n other. So my Ques is How to replace default Message to Other Msg Apk ?
i try to remove default but when i did this.. message wont working So i reinstall rom again for working again.
Thanks n sorry for bad english

This is a problem with GoSMS. They have an option in one of the settings that you have to tick to fix the problem. I haven't used GoSMS in a long time so i can't remember where the setting is.

You can freeze/uninstall the app from Link2SD (even without linking your apps) or you can remove /system/app/Mms.apk from ADB or a File manager that supports root exploring (ES File Manager, Root Explorer) in this case you need to remember that you MUST remount the system partition as r/w.

[Q] Installing .apk in CM7 on SGS2

Ok, so I have spent the last week searching for an answer to this problem, and I'm hoping someone will be able to help me out and others who may have similar problems.
With a rooted SGS2 and stable CM7 rom, I wanted to install the stock messaging app as I liked the "bubble" GUI better. Further, I found a copy of a camera app with higher bitrates/other improvements that I wanted to install as well. but every time I install them, I get "application not installed" with a check mark.
My method was:
Checked to install apps from unknown sources
Uninstalling old app (after backup)
Copying new apps to system/app to replace
Using root explorer in r/w to install them (didnt work)
So then tried:
Signing the apps using Signaptik/Zipsigner
Changing permissions to same as stock apps
It seems nothing that I try to install in system/app will install. Actually, any of these apps, no matter their location, will not install. Why is this? I'd really like the better camera app and my old mms.apk back!
Cheers!
------EDIT------
The camera.apk I want to install was built for SGS2, the mms.apk I wanted to install is stock from sgs2
Enable non-market apk installation.
Go to Settings – Applications – tick the “Unknown Sources” checkbox at the very top. Accept the warning which pops up by tapping on OK.
If you downloaded the file on PC, transfer it to phone.(sd card)
Open the file explorer (if you don’t have one, download any file manager from the android market) and browse to the location where you’d transferred the file.
Tap on the file to install it.
They won't install because they have dependency on a framework or application that does not exist in CM7.
Try installing them with ADB
adb install <apkname>
It will give you the full error message.

[Resolved] [Q] Change default download location/downloader

I am using a Sprint Samsung Galaxy SIII running Cyanogen Mod 11 LTE build.
I am new to the fourm. I know many people have asked how to change the download location before, but I am unable to even use a alternate downloader. I use chrome beta as my browser. I downloaded ES File Explorer and Download Manager, but it never prompted me to use either as the default downloader. I even went into the settings and cleared the defaults. It still never prompted me to use them. Can anyone help?

I use ES File Explorer also and if you want to change the download folder or location goto:
=> Fast access (swipe to right)
=> Go to settings (in back) - select
and you will see a another menu with: - display settings - cleanup settings - Directory settings
- Select and you can change your home directory - your bluetooth share path and your download path
You just need to search a little bit in your apk

Thanks, but for some reason it never prompted me to use it as a downloader. Do you have a fix for that? I think it is a very rare problem since I couldn't find anything about it on the form.

No I'm really sorry.
Have you try to uninstall, wipe cache and dalvik by your recovery, and re-install.

You can try UC BROWSER. With this app you can set default download any where you want.

Sorry for my english thanks for advance
Without knowing what device you have and based on the info you gave here's my advice.
Try other root file managers to replace the nodded settings apk with the original and fix permissions, then reboot.
If you have tried all root file managers with no luck you may need to flash a custom recovery like twrp and use the built in file manager to do this, then use the fix permission option in twrp
One thing that was brought to my attention was whether you properly compiled the apk. Here's the link to the apk tool with instructions on how to properly use it.

Does not instal
on apkmirror site it says that apk is targeted for lolipop 5.0 API21...mate 8 is MM6.0 API23
I think it has to be "ported" but I have no idea how
It works like copy in system / app and give permission (rw-r-r)but your Phone must be rooted.

Thanks. I will try. My phone is rooted. I just try to be cautious with instalation of apps like phone, messaging. etc to mot to get a mess with stock ones.
If it works well maybe the better is to uninstal or freeze huawei messaging. I will give feedback

Yes, as a system app it works great
many thanks
I can confirm Asus Messaging works on the Samsung Galaxy S7 as a system app, it just won't let me choose a specific tone for notifications. I can select one but only have back as an option, so the notification tone stays at whatever the system default notification tone is set to.
Just create a folder in /system/priv-app (for example: AsusMessaging).
Drop the APK in this folder (Rename the APK you want)
Set permissions on AsusMessaging to RWXR-XR-X
Set permissions on the apk to R-XR--R--
Reboot
Run the app, and make sure to give it the permissions it needs. It has to be set as the default messaging app.
I ended up removing it since the app still plays a notification for every message received while you are in the middle of an open conversation, and there is no apparent way to change this behavior.

Question Install apk from local storage

Hey guy's, I hope somebody can help me out here. I can't find any explanation on internet. I want to install an apk from the local storage on my Rog phone 5 ( android 12,un rooted) .
In the old days it was pretty simple, just a slide to activate the "allow unknown sources", click on the apk file and it would install. Now on the rog phone 5 in the apps&notifications, special app-acces, install unknown apps it only shows a few apps that I can give permissions to install from unknown sources. Like Chrome, file manager, gmail, brave browser etc. ( see picture). So I give the file manager or brave the permission, restart the phone, go to the apk in the file manager but it won't install.
It will just show the contents of the apk. If I select the apk I can remove it, rename it, compress it, anything but install it.
I can choose open with brave but still nothing happens. I tried downloading an app in the playstore to install apk files but it won't even list the apk file. I have no clue why they made something that used to be so easy so complicated. So I hope somebody can enlighten me how to install an apk on this phone. Thanks in advance!
Have you enabled install unknown apps in developers options ? Special app access allows you to allow/not allow individual apps to install unknown apk files. I think you have to enable it in developer options for the native installer first. I may be wrong but it's worth checking.
I'll go check if the option is there and let you know. Tnx man.
The only thing I found was " force app allowance on external drive" and but it changed nothing.

you could try
Code:
adb shell settings put secure install_non_market_apps 1
adb shell settings put secure unknown_sources_default_reversed 1
that would be from terminal on pc or you could install settings database editor from play store and grant it permissions via adb and you will have gui to change system settings
Could you please walk me through how to do this? Tnx.

Ok, first I guess I need to ask some questions. Have you tried a different file manager, installed thru play store ? How many .apk files have you tried to install ? If it is just the one app that you have in storage it may be corrupt. Have you tried a fresh copy of it ? Is it an old app and is it compatible with your Android version ?
I don't know what I was thinking, that isn't in developer options anyway, it's in security. It would seem odd for them to remove the ability to install personal apk.
