[Q] i5801 orange running froyo2.2 bricked - Galaxy 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

upgraded my i5801 with samsungs kies 2.2 upgrade - worked ok
wanted to remove orange and improve performance hoping to burn the latest kyrillos o/s. I have manage to root the phone (superuser there in apps) but could not enter recovery mode to clear the system and my mutiple attempts have now bricked it with the b&w samsung i5801 symbol.
i have tried 'volup, home, start', 'voldown, home, start', 'vol+vol-, home, start'
and the same combinations using menu instead of home. I have searched the forums and all i could find was a mention that orange i5081s are different and can't be done.
Please how can i unbrick it? and is there a way of doing what i planned?

Hold volume up+down+home+power button and let go of the power button when the boot screen shows up and hold on to the other buttons for a little longer.
Cheers

To flash other ROMs, just follow this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372414

still wont unbrick
thanks bscraze
thought it might cure the problem but have tried five times now holding buttons for 4 minutes on last occasion but it still only boots to
"samsung 15801".

^ If it's booting till GT-I5801 screen, then it's definitely not a hard brick.
Try removing the sd card and sim, and then see if you can navigate to the download mode or not (vol down + home + power)

dude, follow that guide I gave you! just install/flash other roms! I think the recovery files might be missing.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Ace not coming up

Hi everyone,
I've got a BIG problem
I have a Galaxy Ace. A friend of mine played with it and Since then the phone is kinda dead
When I press the On/Off button, a series of vertical color bars appear on the screen (filling 2/3 of screen) [See attached]
Screen reduces the brightness in 5 secs
Then nothing happens and phone does not respond to any key combination
When I combine volume down with power buttons, the same thing happens although this time the phone camera flashes once!
Using the Volume up button gives me two flashes!
By the way, Odin recognize the phone on a COM port, but I don't know what I can do with that?
I also tried ADB REBOOT RECOVERY command in Android SDK as recommended by someone in here. It says DEVICE NOT FOUND
Does anyone have any idea how can I restore the phone to a normal state?
Appreciate your help

any Ideas? I'm very worried about the phone
Try holding homescreenbutton and on key. Recovery menu should turn up. Then perform a hard reset
I just bricked my ace today and there was no way I was able to fix it, the closest I got was getting the device into a 'connecting' state in the samsung kies software but didn't got any further, no screen no nothing..
Eventually I went back to the store and they replaced it without asking too many questions, I told them it died while doing a factory reset.

Yes looks like the ACE still got problems, my friend's ACE also hangs alot.
My problem is that I can't see anything on the scree (see pic above) I dpn't know what state the handset is in!!!
Any one has a link to a recent firmware for ACE that works?
Weird, don't know if the resistor trick that works on the Galaxy S could also apply on this model ?

Rom manager? If so your phone is dead. Do you honestly think selecting software meant for another device will work? Rom manager does not support the galaxy ace, yet. You've now ruined the partitions and so far noone has managed to get a successful unbrick. Make up a bull**** story and hope you get the phone fixed in warranty. Tata.

[Q] Can't get into CWM recovery after installing MIUI 1.9.23

This post belongs to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1278053 but since I don't have enough posts to reply there, here's my issue.
On my Infuse 4G I had Serendipity VII, then flashed over MIUI 1.9.23 which I downloaded from the abovementioned thread. Backed up rom, wiped data and cache, rebooted all good. But when it comes to enter into recovery to flash the MIUI zip again (as per the instructions at the thread above), my phone is stuck at the "Samsung" logo.
Tried battery pull, various hardware button combos, no luck so far. What is the correct hardware button combination to get into CWM from boot? I thought it was volume up + power on, but that didn't work. Tried volume up + home button + power on, no luck either.
So as of now... I'm with a dead Infuse.
Any help would really be appreciated
Thanks!
- Adriano
Same here, I can't even get into the blue CWM recovery. If I don't hold any buttons the phone will go into MIUI like normal but I want to get into recovery to backup and restore.
for me it's even worse... my phone is stuck at the Samsung logo.
Turn off your phone, press and hold down volume up, volume down, and the power button. When you hold them you'll see the Samsung logo, keep holding them. The screen will go black and in like five seconds a SECOND TIME the Samsung logo will appear, you can then let go of the buttons and you should be on cwm

I've tried going into Rom Manager and re-flashing recovery for the "Galaxy S i9000" and it says it's successful but I still can't get into recovery.
So I do have a working MIUI phone but now I seem to be stuck on this ROM

ROM Manager's recovery is worthless...
Use the instructions given above for the three-finger-salute in order to enter kernel recovery.
Entering recovery from boot can be tricky sometimes.
Sounds like Mikey somehow broke the "reboot recovery" command.

Yeah I've 3 fingered about 10 times now, pulled battery, tried rebooting into recovery from MIUI power menu and from RM menu, made sure to wait for the second SAMSUNG to appear, etc but still have not been able to get into CWM recovery. The logo just stays up forever.
Dang I don't really want to Odin back to stock anyone have thoughts as to how I can get this fixed?
Took me awhile to figure it out, I'm on Miui too and recovery works just fine.
This is what you should be doing:
1. Hold all the buttons down. (Volume Up + Down + Power)
2. When you see the Samsung logo, let go of the power and keep holding both volume buttons until you get into CWM.

Yup. Same works for any CWM-enabled kernel back in Samsung-firmware-land.
Ok well I got this fixed ghetto style.
I used SGS kernel flasher to put the Bedwa gingerbread kernel, then after reboot the female robot voice said there was not enough space in the partition.
However, at this point I was [finally] able to 3 finger my way into CWM - the red one, not the blue that MIUI was showing, and from there I could reinstall Infused from the SD card. Still no idea why the MIUI kernel would not let me into recovery!
ok figured to let you guys know how did it go for me after I was able to boot into CWM (thanks again florelui001p for the tip btw) -- was able to flash MIUI and after the reboot things went fine.
Played a bit around with MIUI (first time I was trying an MIUI rom), didn't quite like the complete reskinning of the plain vanilla android UI (don't get me wrong, the quality and amount of the work that must be behind MIUI is impressive, it's just me that I prefer things more "barebone" style).
So after my brief experience with MIUI, I tried to restore a couple of CWM rom backups I took earlier today -- and CWM was unable to restore either one... sweet. So I went for flashing the latest Infused (as of now) 2.3.3 -- and no surprise there. A great rom for the Infuse. So far with the Infuse aside from the stock rom, I've been on Infused, Serendipity VII and MIUI. Still hoping/waiting for CM7... used to love it on my old Nexus One.

I've never had a problem. Here's a trick I use to get into recovery "100% of the time, every time":
Make sure your phone is unplugged from any charger/USB. Remove, and replace your battery. Place your phone on it's side, volume buttons down, on a desk/table. Press down until you feel the volume buttons depressed, and keep holding the phone with pressure. Press and hold the power until you see the Samsung logo, keeping your phone mashed against the table. When you see CWM, you can release the pressure on your phone, reconnect to cables, do whatever.
After flashing 1.9.30, I cannot access clockwork recovery from ANY method, 3 finger salute won't work, trying from MIUI won't work, reflashing clockwork from ROM manager won't work.
What am I suppose to do?
Have you tried the steps below?

Okay so if you were one of the few people who lost recovery for some weird reason "ME" no need to unbrick to stock and re-flash I have a solution.
1: Download sgs kernel flasher
2: Download CWM community kernel
3: Flash kernel via sgs kernel flasher "unchecked the reboot button" when done flashing turn phone of "SHUTDOWN"
4: 3 finger until the Samsung logo pops up keep holding the buttons the screen will go black then Samsung logo will come up, let go of the power button and keep hold the volume up and down buttons "For about 20 seconds" then let go it should boot into Red CWM after a few seconds.
5: Go to install zip from SD card go all the way down and run update.zip it will boot back into RED CWM run update.zip again and it should now boot into GREEN CWM
6: From here Re-Flash MIUI "New Release would be smart", Wipe Fact,Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik, Flash, reboot at sign of Samsung logo pull battery, 3 finger into blue recovery and flash again.
7: Presto you should be set and have recovery back.

[Q] Its new and big problem.. Galaxy fit not working at all

I started kies and after connecting my Galaxy FIT, I started upgrading the firmware it showed. Then it stopped and asked for emergency recovery. I did it, but it stopped again and phone got switched off and after that it is only showing a error sign with yellow triangle between a PC and mobile. It is not showing anything else though I have tried switching off and taking out battery. It is not working at all, just the error sign. Please help.
Sounds like a "soft Bricked" phone.
Can you boot in to download mode?
Press Volume Down + Home Key (middle button) + Power Button at the same time.
If the phone boots you into download mode (a yellow triagle with a digging android) with words "Downloading"....
Then you can still revive your phone.
this happened to me once..but later i tried pulling off the battery and restarting the sysytem...
try to take off the battrery and plug it again and try to go in DOWNLOAD MODE!..(i did it 2 or 3 times)
..and its definitely not a "SOFT BRICK" '!!
galaxy fit + CM7.1 (2.3.7) + 801Mhz
same happened to me
when first i flashed cyanogen 7.1 , 2.3.7 it happened to me, i just give tha droid a factory reset then following the instructions i flashed the rom from sd card via recovery then when reboot , just came up the cyanogen logo then tha lil letters(android) but just sttoped there no more, i taked out the lbatt, twice, then the alert logo came up......i was so scared.....sh-t !
but then i just remember to go to download mode pressing home , volume + and on/off then i reflash via odin but nothin happened, then y reestart the fir then i try to open in recovery i pushed home key and on/off and the cyanogen recovery just started i gave the phone again not only a data factory reset but, cache and the battery and everything i could reset, then i do it again thru recovery i flased the cyanogen and at las it works, i think like richard says was a soft bricked, try everything , via odin, via recovery.......
i thanks neil cause he helped me a lot!!!

P.S.
Its not like that i dont red the forum i sited here many hours and still i didnt find solve of my problem. I guess i am too dummy ;/ I will be graceful sboody ?: (
Here comes help!
Welcome to the forum, btw
First thing you should do is hold on a little bit.
To solve your problem try to get to download mode (VOL-, HOME, POWER, then after phone turns on, release power) and flash Kyrillos' ROM (FROYO - v9.0) - fire up odin, tick one package, select tar and flash it. AFTER the flashing ends, you should boot up to recovery (CWM recovery for G3MOD kernel). Here, navigate through menu using VOL+, VOL- and navigate to "Wipe data/factory reset" option. Now press HOME button to confirm. Navigate again to Yes, press HOME again and wait till its done.
Now Navigate to "Reboot" or something like that - its the first option in there. Then press HOME again. You should see the phone rebooting and then displaying the bootanimation - it lasts for aprox. 10-20minutes, so don't panic!
If this wont solve your problem, give me more info
- New or used phone - THIS IS ABSOLUTELY IMPORTANT TO KNOW BECAUSE IF YOU HAD NEW, YOU HAD 2.1 FIRMWARE ON IT
- Did you wipe data/factory reset phone
- What else you tried?
- etc, etc...
There will be solution somewhere... I'm sure. But post the result after trying that.
PS: here on xda is a little THANKS button... Use it instead of "THANK YOU" posts. (Just in case you didn't know)

Turn your phone off by pulling the battery out. The put the battery back in but don't turn the phone on. Hold the volume up + volume down + home button + power button and as soon as the screen turns on, let go of the button. This will take you into CWM recovery. Then, in recovery, select wipe data/ factory reset, then wipe cache and then wipe the dalvik cache. These options are all in recovery and are easy to find. Then reboot the phone and it should work. Also you don't need to root your phone to flash a custom ROM.

You probably have confused Samsung galaxy 3 with Samsung galaxy S3 because this phone (Galaxy 3) Hasn't menu that you can boot to recovery/bootloader with. At least I dont know about such "menu" thing.
---------- Post added at 03:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:01 PM ----------
----------------------------------------------------------------------- SOLUTION! ---------------------------------------------------------
@KamelusPL: You said that you cant boot after flashing Kyrillo's ROM v9.0. And you had Android 2.1 and you couldn't boot. That means you have been in hurry to get things really fast done and flashed FROYO ROM WITHOUT BOOTLOADERS OVER 2.1 THAT COMES WITH ITS OWN TYPE OF BOOTLOADER = bricked.
HOWEVER, there's a solution! yeah!
This is a bit risky, but if you want your phone working again, you must do that. I'm saying again, I take no responsibility over such things.
1. Put your phone into download mode. This must be working.
2. Download this file: http://hotfile.com/dl/132526357/46bd186/I5800XXJPS_OXX_Android_2.2.rar.html
3. Open odin, tick ONE PACKAGE, in the down right corner click ONE PACKAGE and select .tar file you downloaded. ITS WITH PROPER BOOTLOADERS - FROYO XXJPS. That must work.
4. Click start. NOW DO NOT TOUCH YOUR PC until its done!
5. Wait till its done and wait till your phone boots up.
6. If you will have still bootloop, then you must boot into recovery (YOU MUST WAIT... RECOVERY WONT SHOW IMMEDIATELY just like in download mode... wait man.), here navigate using the same keys I told you before, and select wipe data / factory reset, then select yes and wait till its done. Then, navigate to wipe cache partition, select yes and wait till its done. Then, select reboot system now and press HOME.
7. This should be working!
This menu! Recovery is the second last option and I have a galaxy 3...
Edit: also I would recommend doing what the Guy above said. To boot into download mode you hold volume down + home button and the power button.

Wait, so when you bought your phone yesterday the battery was discharged? So you didn't check if it was working or not before you bought it? Maybe you were scammed into buying a broken phone
--------------------------------
Click thanks if I helped.
Any other way to enter the recovery? I'm afraid not.
Maybe this has somethig to do with flashing CUSTOM FROYO ROM over 2.1. Because Kyrillos' ROM's kernel converts filesystems to other ones than the stock RFS that is used by stock samsung roms. That means the phone after flashing stock rom directly after some custom froyo roms dont recognize the partitions in different filesystems. So you must wipe data and cache partition to get the phone to recognize theese partitions again.
After that, the phone will boot. BUT YOU MUST BOOT IT TO RECOVERY AND WIPE DATA SOMEHOW.
This is really wierd... If you can go to download mode, I'm sure this can still be fixed somehow, but the stock froyo rom should boot into recovery anyways...
Have you tried getting to recovery when you first saw the phone that its not booting? I mean at the beggining of this problem if you had still 2.1 when you got the phone? Because wiping data from recovery on 2.1 should have solved this problem I think...
EDIT: HERE IN XDA IS SOME FILE - zerofill.tar THAT IF YOU FLASH IT, YOU PROBABLY GET WIPED PARTITIONS, but not sure... TRY THAT - I think rkoby13 has posted this file somewhere... Try to PM him...

U have absolutly right that they to solve this is enter recovery mode but i think my problem is deeper i found something on my own. Look.
If your GSII has the folowing symptoms :
Bootloop
Stuck on GSII logo, but already removed the battery to try to fix it
Enters Download mode and Recovery mode
It means that you are soft bricked and is easy to solve.
But if your symptoms are the mentioned above, PLUS the symptoms below
Enters Download mode but does NOT enter recovery mode (usually means a NAND rw corruption)
Doesn't flash
Bad flash in odin (FAIL after flashing, or the flashing suddenly stops)
It looks like I must use all my brain power to solve that i guess i need to go deeper into android stuff cuz i wont give up. I even gave my phone to service but seems like that dude is lame and he is not so much expert like i need i send message to Kyrillos cuz i guess he knows all bout androids and all that stuff and thats the person who i need some1 very good must see my topic guess i will just read learn and w8 for help thank u all for advices
After watching your youtube video I am confused. You try to get in into recovery, but don't even wait 10 seconds before you remove the battery?
Before you start make sure the battery is not empty or even broken. Charge until it reports full.
Battery out for a while, remove charging cable. Then battery in, press Vol+ and Vol-, add Home, then Power, as soon as something appears onscreen let go all three. Then WAIT. What happens?
If it stays on the GT I5800 screen for longer than a minute on a stock Eclair AND stock Froyo (from twinky's advice), you probably have a serious hardware issue. Did this device you bought ever work properly for you? That's important. If you really bought a phone that you never saw working, it's most likely hopelessly dead. If it worked, and showed the reported error after a day, there might be hope.
edit: I had countless bootloops/flash FAILs/tons of FC after 1st boot/corrupted FS... don't give up! As long as download mode is still accessable, it's not dead yet!

Dude u rly think i am so stupid?
Phone was working when i bought it i suspect that some sort of application crashed it( i guess taskkiller), i did tried to take out battery for longer time even 1 day ... And i did tried to hold buttons longer
Its bad flash that has made the situation...
Flash zero fill.tar which will clean your system
Flash again a rom using 'Forced download mode' ( vol+, home, power button)
Note: you should restart your phone by keys when its still on after zero fill flash using the force download keys.

Sorry, I was just telling from the video. But a software like taskkiller cannot mess up the whole phone in a way that prevents access to recovery.
Try cleaning the ROM like in above post and then flash a bootloaderfree stockrom. That should leave you with a perfect situation to start all over again.
Hi,I don't know if the word "bricked" or "drowned" is the best match for my case, but anyways here is my story:I had installed on my phone the kyrilos rom,I don't remember wich version excactly it has been too long before. My phone fell into a glass of water,I pulled battery out, dried it up with hair styler, after that it had some water marks on the screen and it was working quite good,I re-flashed it abd worked better, the watwr marks on the screen dissappeared and got better...but...my girlfriend reebooted accidently in recovery and it dropped dead, froze,I pulled the battery out, reebooted, and after that I am stuck in phone's logo and it keeps loading nothing ..forever..and I can't even boot to recovery mode..any ideas?I've searched in this blog and I couldn't find anything to do..please help me..

[Q] [i9023} Real big problems Unbrickung it (Applied UBM)

Good morning XDA Community,
i've got a real big problem and I hope anybody here can help me out.
I got my hands an a i9023 (from the boyfriend of my sister) he bricked it ... as he said because he made a Software Update.
After reading and reading .... these are the things I've done and tested so far.
1. Applies Unbrickeable mod
2. The device is regovnized in Linus (SPC....bla bla)
3. Using the Resurrector R 40 I can only get in Download mode
BUT only if I choose: Galaxy S
and not Nexus S
there is over all no possibility to get in fastboot mode at all (tried every methods discribed here)
4. So I tried to read PIT und Heimdall said it cannot do this .... I think it was corrupted und I updated it with
LATONA.PIT (from Google - for the Galaxy SL (i9003)
5. Tried to Update Firmware with 9023 Image .... at SBL/IPBL it said: unexpected eof same at SBL
6. I tried to Update with Odin ....
can read the PIT but doesen't flash at alll
7. Finanlly after some testing .... I flashed the i9003 Firmware ... everything ok said Heimdall ....
but GSM doesn't react at all.....
------------------------------
So I hope anybody here got an sugesstions for me how to go on .... or can share the Nexus SL PIT for me
Or the best thing is, if someone has an Heimdall Package with alll necessary files .
Thx in advance to all
So long.
Can really nobody help me out ?
It should just boot to fast boot. Are you holding a key combo? You need to use fast boot with this device. Keep trying or throw it away. If its going into UBM mode, its recoverable.

Ok i'll try it when I get home again.

I tried again one thing so far - flashed - i9000 firmware with heimdall - the Phone reponse with Search, Home and Back button on if it's connected to the charger....

Ok as you said if UMB is applied right it MUST work ...
I tried some things yesterday without sucess ....
So I opened the phone and look into it to see if the two points are shorted correctly .... I found out that they were not.
So this evening I''ll take the Phone to my friend again and rebuild the connection ....
Hope it works then
Thanks Adam.
